About this episode
Patton Oswalt gave a speech for Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, saying that she was finally free from the "nerd mafia" that has held her hostage. This is the same Patton Oswalt who joked about going back in time and murdering George Lucas before he could make the Star Wars prequels. Geeky is very annoyed. So we talk about the rise (and fall) of fake Hollywood geeks. I am here with Geeky Sparkles. Hey. And we're going to talk about Star Wars, but we're actually going to talk more about Patton Oswald and the fake geeks of Hollywood that they drag out every time they want to do some kind of geek event or build tread for some sort of quote-unquote geek thing. And in this case, it was Patton Oswald being the MC of this event for Kathleen Kennedy. And he talked about her being finally free from the nerd mafia.
Yeah, I'm like, dude, just stop. No one cares we have to say. Most people hate you, just stop. So we'll talk about that. We'll talk about the disdain that these people that are supposed to speak for people like us really have for people like us. And that includes Patton Oswald, who is one of your personal favorites, I know. Oh, I love him so much. I can't stand him. I want to kick him in the yards. And I would say on my end, it's Felicia Day. Oh, I can't say Felicia Day either. Sorry. I actually turned off a documentary the other day. It was about the best movies of 1982. And they started with Felicia Day. And I'm like, bitch, you were like two years old. You remember any of this stuff. And also Will Wheaton. And I threw a little leak on that pile too. Yeah. You can give us an apology anytime. So I would say that those guys and the guys like them, they drag them out every time they want to give, geek cred to something like quick. Get one of the Hollywood nerds to go like credibility to everything.
Whoever said they had cred, I mean, I guess only on, you know, Felicia Day was, you know, had the, the, um, because like back in the day, she did the guild and stuff. And I think she might have started out kind of, you know, in a geeky spheres. But these guys are kind of like self-proclaimed themselves. As the king and queen of the geeks. And I don't, I don't get it because I, she strikes me as fake as hell. Pat Noswald doesn't know what the hell he's talking about most of the time. It just seems like he's just a hateful little troll who likes to go out and cause trouble and pretend like he's, you know, he's, he's cool. Will Wheaton don't get me started. He's like, where do you begin on that one? I know, right? I don't, there's no words, you know, I just, I can't, and Kevin Smith could just get bet. What a... Yeah. Let's talk about this before you get into it any further. Please subscribe for more pop culture news views and rants guys. Yeah. Woohoo, if you do. So yeah, this comes from Variety, Kathleen Kennedy on the Lucasfilm Handoff. I guess they did this, this event at the Golden Real Awards in L.A. And she basically is just talking about her career, which, you know,
we said she wasn't going to get thrown out on her ass because... No, she thought of me and Steven Spielberg this and me and George Lucas that, you know, and all this other stuff. Right, right. But Pat and Oswald hosted the event. And he said, he hosted Sunday's Golden Real Ceremony, following Kennedy's acceptance speech, the comic joke that she had gone backstage for a ritual freeing her from the nerd mafia. She's been trapped with for years regarding the fervent and toxic Star Wars fandom. Oswald said, Kennedy had been freed from the comments section. You know, whatever, kiss my ass. Because here's the thing, it's like, no, but she's not freed from it. Her legacy is going to be one of... You ruin... Because she was part of these other things. People don't know she was part of. What they know her for is Lucasfilm for ruining Star Wars, Willow, and Indiana Jones. It's somehow she managed to ruin all three. That's what her legacy is going to be. It doesn't matter what other stuff she did. That's what people remember her as. And Pat and Oswald, other than pulling them out for this kind of shit, does anybody remember them for anything of note or care?
No, not really. Well, she did go on to say... She said, really, Seed did that job when the fan expectations collided with social media. Oh, fuck off. Fan expectations were always there. Social media just gave him a way to make sure you heard them. That really has created a kind of explosion. It's always been important to Lucasfilm that fans are a huge part of what the franchise is. Well, then why do you do everything anti-fan? I know, right? So that was something that was new to me and something that grew over time. But it's remained incredibly important to the company. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. She was part of all these pop culture iconic things. I was part of like, you know, working with Lucas on this and that and Star Wars and all this other stuff. How would she not know that the other thing would have come back? Right. Because I mean, people like the media likes to, you know, famously bring up. Well, because of Jar Jar Binks back when the prequel said, Oh, and because of, you know, they didn't like Empire, they didn't like this to whatever. So ha ha ha, Nina and Nina got you. Well, Kathleen Kennedy would have been, would have known about that stuff then. Why would this be a surprise to her?
Well, okay. So let's, let's segway into Patton Oswalt and Star Wars and why this is so weird. And you actually had somebody on Twitter mentioned. Yeah. Make sure I mentioned them. The Toryverse TV said, isn't he the guy who said he'll murder George Lucas? Yes, somehow not liking the trilogy panel is panning to his toxic George Lucas right my childhood crowd. What is what's toxic? Yeah. So the shit up. So apparently he had a stand up routine years ago. And this is kind of like this reminds me Kevin Smith where his whole brand originally was shitting on the people behind nerd culture, you know, the people behind the Batman movies and whatever. That was a whole thing like he was charging admission. Smith was doing like the, what the evening with Kevin Smith where he was, you know, again, charging to, to shit on Warner Brothers and all of his behind the scene stuff. And, and people were eating it up. And then when that, when he actually became part of Hollywood, then he actually turned on the people that the audience that got him there. And that feels like what might have happened with Patton Oswalt.
But yeah. And then the stuff in the things because I don't get it because he's, he's unlikable. He's a annoying little troll. It's funny though. This is coming from space today. And this was years ago. They said Oswalt considers himself intelligent, not just a wise guy. When he's reminiscing about idiot network notes he's received. He isn't just complaining. He's saying standards. That's the tone anyway. And I don't say it's wrong. Yes. He's smart. Most of his stuff works. And it isn't because he's dumb. Yet here's Lucas and the shovel. The routine goes like this. Oswalt says if he could travel in time, he'd use his power on something nerdy like going back to kill George Lucas before the prequels got made. Oh, it's okay to hit the prequels because that's what he doesn't like. Why? Well, Kevin Smith was the same way. His whole thing was, I hate Star Wars prequels because at the time it was in Vogue to, to shit on the prequels. But now the sequels are totally fine. You're not allowed to, you're not allowed to talk shit about the sequels at all because, you know, last Jedi is like a holy grail. But yeah, he said he switches his premise a bit. Now he imagines a conversation between a mid-90s Lucas and a mid-90s Oswalt.
Lucas talks up these movies. He has coming. The three prequels, Oswalt is horrified, noisily horrified and elaborately insistent in a disheveled Gen X way. I don't really care about that at all, at all, at all. So what does Lucas have to say? Well, in the prequels, he will have Darth Vader as a little kid, Boba Feds as a little kid. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So basically he's like, yeah, it's okay, go back and kill him. But here's the thing, he's like, I don't really care about that at all. I don't like it. So I'm just shocked. So I'm going to tell him, I'm going to kill him or tell him that he shouldn't do it. But when we do that about Kathleen Kennedy and not the killing part, but say, this is bad, you're making bad decisions. Kennedy and co Ryan Johnson and co. We've got nothing but shit. The Star Wars official. How does talk shit about your fans? People like Pablo Dago was like bashing people with the fans about being happy to see Luke Skywalker back. All they do is piss on fans. Ryan Johnson, piss on fans. All that's all they've done. So I don't understand that disconnect. You didn't like it when it was stuff you didn't like.
And you are one of those whining nerds that you're making fun of. You're one of the ones that have to do a ritual against in the comment section, except it was worse because you were up on stage doing it. And now you're salty and pissed because the people that you used to be are, you know, you're standing against because you're part of the Hollywood. So the cap are of the routine. If you like the prequels, maybe you'd like rock salt instead of ice cream because rock salt becomes ice cream. Maybe if you like Angelina Jolie, you'd like John Boyz sweaty ball sack. What? Uh, yeah. So I don't. Okay. When he did. So yeah, kindly fuck yourself, Pat Noswald. I don't want to hear shit because Kevin Smith did the exact same thing. It like people versus George Lucas. He's shit on George Lucas during clerks, the clerks animated series. And that was the whole thing. I don't want to hear it. So now these people are in Hollywood. They're doing a heel turn on the fandom. Don't get to say you speak for the fans when you clearly do not speak for the fans.
And you can't get mad at the fans for saying similar things to what you yourself. Got famous for doing. You know, it's just because you're part of that you get you get to eat the caviar and be above the plubs. Doesn't mean that, you know, you're you're suddenly right. And the fact that they keep hauling these people out as the faces of nerd and geek dumb. It just it irks me so bad because it's like you guys are so out of touch. And so I probably was asked that you don't represent most of us anyway. No, no. You just come across as fake, as whiny, as entitled, self-centered, little dipshit, especially, you know, Pat Noswald. He is annoying as fuck. I don't understand why they keep putting him in things. Soutopia 2 has come home to Disney Plus. Let's go! Get ready for a new case. We're the greatest partners of all time. Run you in that. She's only 65, too. She's in Charles and Charge. But they put in the new Ghostbusters thinking, Oh, that's some some geek cred. We'll get everybody to come to it. It's like, no, that's no geek cred. I was just like, I don't want to see the new Ghostbusters because he's in it. I'm like, just because it's a different thing. Yeah, he is. He's like anti get that like he is. Him and day and we'll wait and then Kevin Smith. They are anti geeks. You know when guys are trying to keep it down because they don't want it to like, you know, be popping up in an opportune times and trying to think of something really really unsexy to get it to go back down. Pat Noswald, what people would think of. You know, they're trying to avoid sweaty balls. I'm just like, you're these like, if things give guys a boner because they're nerdy
and cool. He's like the, he's like the antithesis of it. Oh, God. All right. We're going to wrap it up. Yes. All right. Please subscribe for more pop culture news, views and rants. We'll talk later.
