The NFL season has officially started and that means we are just a matter of days away from the Carolina Panthers playing a football game. I'm Mike Chickas and I am getting ready for the Sparrow's game. The only concern I have is those edge rushers. We'll talk about that in a second. I am Carolina Panthers first ever defensive selection. Tyrone. Pooh. Keep pounding. It's the Panther squad. Everything Carolina Panthers every week covering all the big hits and game changing plays from the Queen City to wait only the Lockdown podcast network can gear up the Panther squad

show starts now. What's up everybody welcome into a Thursday night locked on Panther Squad show. My name is JJ Jackson. I've got Mike Chickas the host of Lockdown Panthers set. As we said former first round selection of the Carolina Panthers back in 1995 Tyrone pull back with us. Gentlemen, it is a matter of days at this point until we get to see the Panthers back on the field and regular season game. I don't want to speak for either of you. I'll speak for myself here and I think you're going to feel similar feelings to me. I'm fired up man. We saw an NFL game last night and now the real thing is here. Oh yeah, man. I'm ready. Like just we've got a game going on tonight too, right? Tomorrow and. Yeah, I think we might have lost Mike right there Tyrone. You still with me? Yeah, they'll mind he's okay. I'm a swarcing Nager. I'll be by. Go ahead Mike. All right. I don't know if you got anything I said, but football going on football is going on.

We're excited Tyrone. How are you feeling now that the football season's here? Oh, what? Like they say, let's go. You know, we're in the tunnel right now. At least I'm in the tunnel right now, right? And I'm already have played the game just like most of you guys, the practices they're over with today. The teams that are playing on Sunday, you know, today was the day they go through a rent zone. You know, they going through blitz, you know, they're finalizing everything. They're going to come back tomorrow, Fridays, practice and it's going to be like a move to feel so to speak. They're going to go through everything they went through this week. First down, second down, third down, blitz, red zone and they're going to finish it off with a little bit of a coach going to come up and say, you know, that raw, raw story. Hey guys, it's the first game of the year. It's a long season. But hey, let's go out there and let's go one and oh, right? One game, one opportunity like Eminem would say, one opportunity.

So the path has got that opportunity this Sunday. A lot of opportunity. A new season is in front of us here on our show tonight. We'll take a look around the division. We'll take a look around the NFL with action having started. We'll give you some of the major keys to beating the Chicago Bears come Sunday, who we're going to be the key players for the Carolina Panthers to get the job done. And ultimately what needs to happen in this first week. And for a lot of people, it comes down to that quarterback position and boy, do we have a good one. A battle of high-spin trophy winners. Number one overall picks. It's Bryce Young, it's Caleb Williams going toe to toe in this one. And that quarterback matchup is one that I'm really excited to see how this one goes. Yep. You know what? And I hate to change this object here, but Caleb's not my biggest concern with this game. It is that run game. Everybody's all the talks going to be Bryce and Caleb. It's I think it's going to be a different cadence for the Bears this year. They don't have DJ Moore anymore. I don't think they have any White receivers that hit the thousand yard mark on that roster

right now. They're going to try to get that going. But I mean, Bryce, Caleb, that's that trade. That's always going to be the story. But I don't I don't think that's going to be the story this Sunday. You know, I definitely think that Mike has a point, but JJ also has a great point. It's because the trigger person, right? The quarterback handles the ball every snap. So you can have a great running back there. And I understand you got to have a running game. And if you quarterback who handles the ball, doesn't replay does something that doesn't go right. You can have I don't care who back there. Your running game goes with the quarterback. So yes, between bright young and Caleb Williams, you know, those guys are only going to be as good as they bring the confidence to the game themselves. And let's not forget the offensive coordinators. They play a valuable role. Now, I'm going to be it's going to be interesting for me to see how the pastors get Bryce

young into the game. Do they come out throwing that first look past to the flats, you know, kind of like let them get itself going in the throwing game? Or do they come out and say, Hey, we're going to throw it deep. Let's go ahead and get the butterflies out of the stomach right now. And let's get you into this game. So I want to see how the offensive coordinator, the offense is going to get Bryce young into the game mentally. Yeah, I'm sure they've got big plans to kind of get them going because looking at this one, Bryce young, Oh, and three in regular season openers in his career. He's never won the first game of the season as a member of the Carolina Panthers. And we're hopeful, obviously, that that changes the Sunday. And then inevitably the Caleb Williams comparison is always going to be there. Guys, I mean, we've been talking about it throughout the week. And Julian has unlocked on Panthers and it's big storyline. Nationally, there was the big trade that brought these two guys together. I mean, Carolina basically swaps first round picks to move up to number one

overall, selecting Bryce young. And then that season just didn't go the way the Panthers thought it would. They ended up with the worst record in the entire NFL, which awarded the Chicago Bears, the number one overall pick, the following year. And they were able to then select Caleb Williams. I mean, Tyrone, these guys are never going to be able to run away from one another. Yeah, you know, kind of sounds like to me back in the day when the Cowboys did that big show walker trade to the Minnesota Vikings. And the Cowboys got all those draft picks and they built a dynasty. Now, let's just hope that we don't do that for the Chicago Bears, right? But at the end of the day, you know, Caleb Williams, you know, there's Phil out there on him now.

you know, we got more film on him. So he's going to really have to study his game. If not, you know, will he go into, you know, that slump like a lot of quarterbacks do playing off of the first year and all that. I'm curious. What would constitute a good, Bryce Young game when we get to Saturday for you guys? Is it 300 yards and three touchdowns? Or could it simply be taking care of the football, putting the team in a position to win? And even if you end up around that 200 yard mark, 180 yards passing, whatever that number may be, as long as you're taking care of the football and getting the ball in the end zone. For some people though, given where Bryce Young has been throughout his career, it probably is going to take one of those major games where you're throwing for under 300 and in multiple scores. Yeah, I don't think it's going to be like last year with all the all the all the comebacks. Both quarterbacks have poised. We've seen they both were up amongst the best in the NFL with the comebacks. This could come down to who has the ball last. But for Bryce, what makes it a good game for him is it's just a standard for me. The season for Bryce is to have

get a lead early and hold that lead, maintain it, double digit lead and you keep it. Don't play from behind. Don't don't don't don't wait for the pressure to start making those anticipatory deep throws. You get the lead early and you hold it like that. That's what I want to see. You manage. I know that's like a curse word to say manage the game, but that's what we need to see him do is manage the game, put up a couple touchdowns, but hold the lead and do what he's got to do to keep us above. Yeah, and I'll say the three things that I'm looking for. One, like I said, the quarterback is the premier position on any level. And it's a great responsibility that goes with the quarterback. So I want to see out of my three things. One, the energy. Bryce young has to keep the energy of that offense. No matter what happens, he has to keep the energy. They have to be able to look at him and I don't care if there's an interception. He has to be able to keep the morale of the team up.

The second thing that I want to see Bryce young do is throw the ball where the defense tells him. Read the defense. Read the defense. I know the first read is the out, but I saw the backer and the safety drifting in that area. So I went through my route progression. I went to number one, number two. And now I ducked it off to the running back and we kept the chains moving. The last thing that I want to see Bryce young do is when the patterns get into the red zone, we have to score. We have to score. We can't settle for field goals. So those are the three things that I want to see. Bryce young do. I think it's interesting to think about starting the season off on a good note because the contract situation is what it is, right? And people want to know if he's the long-term answer still on his rookie deal still has the fifth year option that's coming. But then what is beyond that? How fitting is it, fellas, that we had a squad show Tuesday night. Yesterday, David

Tepper immediately meets with the media and gets a chance to speak about Bryce young himself. And then here we are the very next day, getting a chance to have another squad show. And looking at the Bryce young give it all here, David Tepper, not publicly giving a vote of confidence quite yet to Bryce young, not publicly offering an answer as to whether or not a contract extension had been offered his way. Did say quote that he's got a lot of talent. And there's been good production there. But what does that mean? I mean, it's still a big question mark on whether or not Carolina has that vote of confidence in him going forward. Bryce young asked about it today. And he's simply gave the quarterback the answer. I'm all about football. Let's get a win on Sunday. Yeah, go ahead Tyrone. Yeah, I was going to say, you know, David Tepper, we know where he comes from, right? He comes from the investment side of the world. And if he puts money down on the stock,

he comes to the maximum return. So I think, you know, at the football quarterback position or any athlete, if you have not produced yet, right, then how can you say that this is the right stock? Right. But the fact that David Tepper is still believing in Bryce young, that is a huge thing. Now, all Bryce has to do is go out now and get R-O-I return on investment, right? He go out, like I said, he go out, he played a game, recognizes what the defense is doing to tell about his game Sunday, make the changes, show not only the head coach, but the team, the owner, that hey, I am the person that can lead Carolina to that promised land called Super Bowl that you want, David Tepper. So again, I think Bryce Young knows there's a lot of writing that's beginning to get on the wall. And I'm pretty sure he wants to show everybody that he is the right person.

So I expect a big season out of Bryce Young. Yeah, and essentially what we're hearing from David Tepper is that Carolina has seen a high end of Bryce Young. I mean, the run he had at the end of last season playing as well. He did even in the playoff game against the Rams. It's been there. It's just where is it consistently? Can it be there week after week after week? And I think that ultimately is what would lead to a big payday for Bryce Young. We saw in our division, Baker Mayfield got his new deal recently. I mean, these quarterbacks, it's not cheap to sign these guys. And Bryce Young coming off for rookie contract. And again, circling back to the Caleb Williams timeline, essentially being a year ahead of where Caleb Williams is and the trade that took place to get Carolina in that position. Ultimately, I think all of that is so fascinating as all these teams might try to make an answer at quarterback long term. Yeah, it's going to take a little bit of time to get that return on investment because that was

a pretty big investment with what we gave off. I believe we DJ Moore being another one of those guys, I believe we're part of that trade. But you know what? That all comes with. He Pepper talked about it. Bryce had shown his moments. He's shown that he has the goods. He's shown it when the moments matter. But what about again, early in the game, early in the season, before we get to those pressure situations. And that's what it comes down to. That's when that return on investment comes when we want that back-to-back winning season, this Tepper said. Once we get that, if we get that with Bryce, I think it's a pretty good investment. And let me say this now. Go ahead, before we close out. Also, now we got to make sure that we hold offensive playing game planning up to standard, right? And actually, using myself as an example, I coming out of college, I always felt like I was a one-on-one corner, right? And I've seen a lot of guys in the corner position that they left one team and went to another team and got out of the

scheme that fit their skills. And you would think that player is no good. No, the player is great. It's the system. And then we seen on the opposite side, players play in a system that was not them. They go to another team and you're like, hold on, where did all this come from? So again, you know, Bryce, I just hope that all of it comes together for the Panthers, you know, from the scheme that is applicable to his abilities. And I think David Tepper will get that return on investment. Without a doubt, I'm hopeful for what Bryce Young's going to be able to do this season. I think he's going to be able to figure it out. And Caroline is going to greatly benefit from all of that. There are other players, however, that could really swing this Bears and Panthers game coming up on Sunday. We're going to identify some of those big names for you to be aware of on the other side of this time out here on the Lockdown Panthers Squad Show. Our show today is brought to you by

JJ Mike and Tyrone hanging out with you. And now we want to identify some of the key players that will ultimately swing this game between the Panthers and the Bears. The first player we got to highlight. It's pretty obvious. We've already been talking about him so far on the show tonight, fellas. But how about Bryce Young and ultimately the difference that he will have in making this game play out in Carolina's favor? Yeah, keep the keep the Bears on their toes. There's I do feel there's going to be a lot of running this game. But those opportunities that he has, we got to take those shots early in the game. Let's see, like start fast, take shots, take shots when you have them. There's going to be a few here or there. I don't want thinking dunk all game long, but there's he's got to be putting us

a position to succeed by Ibsick with the office of play calling. Yeah, and again, Bryce Young, you know, we talk about him the most because he plays a position that is the most identifiable. So Bryce again has to come out, control the ball, control the game. Don't get turnovers. And if something bad does happen in the game, you know, Bryce just has to be to shake it off just like all great quarterbacks. And he has the potential to be that great quarterback, shake it off, come back and say, Hey, guys, that's on me. That's on me. Or if somebody drops a pass, right? He still has to believe in that player, get the ball back to them. So he plays a very, very vital role in this offensive momentum and what the pathers are able to do on Sunday. For me, I think it's all about efficiency, taking care of the football and utilizing your best players, like we've talked about utilizing someone like Teterola McMillan and Jalen Coaker and all these guys in the passing games. They really got them really hopeful that he could have a big

third season in the national football league here for Carolina. That would do major things to what the Panthers are trying to do. And I don't know, maybe let Bryce use his legs a little bit, guys, because sure he's a little fella as everyone wants to identify his measurables that are out there. But with that comes a little elusiveness like Tyrone down the stretch. He's a tough guy to bring down. I mean, let's remember this is a former Heisman winning trophy quarterback on our hands. Yeah, now that is true. Heisman trophy that comes out of college. That comes out of college. Yeah. Every level, every level of competition gets different, stiffer. You know, all those play high school football. Yeah, you might have been the best athlete. Maybe it was two, maybe three at the most good athletes that Friday night. Then you go to college. Oh, okay, it's more talent. So now you may have about five guys on offense, five guys on defense. That's real good. But in the pros, all 11 guys can do something special. And I say all that to say this. What we don't want to happen

is I was throwing a quarterback, do too much running. And he's running to the sideline and can't quite get out of bounds quick enough. And he takes an unnecessary hit. Now that's fair. We've seen RG three. We've seen a Drew blesso in New England. We've seen a lot of quarterbacks. So I would rather see Bryce Young use his legs to keep the drive alive, looking to throw the ball instead of just making him into a running back. That's why we got the running game, right? That Mike alluded to in the beginning. So I want to see Bryce Young use his legs, but use his legs to keep the drive alive, looking to throw the ball down field. And if he does have to run, Bryce, slide, Bryce, leg first, Bryce, baseball, Bryce, baseball. Yes. Yeah, he's he needs a slide coach. Like if there's one thing we could all agree on, he needs to

learn how to slide because I think he's he's solid at choosing the right time to run, looking at him the last couple of years. When he runs it's with a purpose. He doesn't run a lot, but when he does, he's going for the first down, he's going for the touchdown. He's we're in a range and he knows where we are. So yeah, don't push him to run, but again, take those opportunities when they're there. And that's one of the areas of this game. I think he's been pretty good at, but that slide. That's it's rough. It's it's scary. Watch it. I'm going down. All right. Now, here's another look and another player that could be key in determining the outcome of this game, thinking about Bryce Young in a weapon down the field for him. Teterola Mcmillan, he is set to begin his second season in the NFL and boy oh boy, what a rookie campaign it was for him ultimately being named the NFC offensive rookie of the year 70 catches, 1,014 yards, seven touchdowns measuring at six foot five to 12, throw it anywhere near him. His catch radius as we saw in rookie is insane. He is not afraid to make

those one handed catches that you need. But now there's tape out on Teterola Mcmillan and how can T Mac establish himself in year two. I think he's going to be a big difference maker for the Panthers in season. Yeah, put on some muscle this year to 17 pounds. Oh, yeah, I was just going to say he got he got stronger. He's got to come down with those contested catches a little bit more. He's been in the weight room. He's playing more closer to his his college weight where he was coming down with those contested throws. He had some 300 yard game and four touchdowns in college. I want to see a little bit more of those breakout games the season and he's putting in the work. But yeah, go ahead Tyrone. I just think that the Panthers has to move him around. Yes, JJ, those stats that you read off those were phenomenal stats in his first year. And yes, JJ, like you said, people got fiam on him. So they know how to Panthers use him last year. Again, it all goes back to the setup of the game plan. I think they're going to have to move

T Mac around, let him motion, put him out there in single curvages where the defense now has to balance up and you got the whole whatever side of the field open for T Mac and let him use that big frame. Catch the snap and then break through and I'll go back to I heard Sterling shark. A lot of people may say Sterling who yes, Sterling shark would have probably had a very great career if he had not had that neck injury, but Sterling shark reminds me of T Mac big body catch it in those DB's believe it or not. We don't like making all those tackles. So you take somebody like T Mac and you set him up to get those slants to where's nothing but him and the defensive back. I'm putting my money on T Mac to break the tackle and get the yards after the catch as we know it's yet. So I think if the Panthers can keep him on the outside at the number one receiver and then moving me into the

slot and then just motion him back and forth, maybe try to get him locked up on a linebacker in a zone type of situation or if it's a one on one situation, Lord God help that linebacker but at the end of the day, we just need to keep moving T Mac around and get the ball target him at least 15 times in this game and I'm pretty sure he's going to come down with a great percentage of big plays and I love big plays. I will admit fellas, it might be a hot take out there. I'm a big play guy Tyrone. Those get me excited man. I'm a big play. You know what? I'm a big play. I like to see big plays but I don't want to be a part of a big play. Yes sir. That's true. Pick sixes. That's just as big of a play. Yes it is but I don't like the big play being done on me. I like to see them but not on me. I love that. I love that. All right, let's talk about some other players that could be

different makers for the Panthers and this one. I want to go to the defensive side of the football now and spotlight Mr. Derek Brown 95 on your screens 95 on his jersey and man he is nearly a 95 rating in life. I mean he's so good at football and what he does one of the highest rated defense of linemen in Madden and super excited to see what he's going to be able to bring to the table this season. Him on the interior that is a tough player to have to block and handle. I'm going to let you take it Tyrone. You got something? Yeah, you know I think again D Brown. I'm just going to call him DB DB. If I was playing with Derek Brown right now I'd be like come on DB it's time to go eat baby. It's time to go eat because if you eat and that means my life in the secondary is so easy right so I think with Derek Brown you know the five sacks that he's had coming from an interior linemen that's pretty good that means that he's getting some push

right so when he gets to push then that opens up the defensive ends and then it opens up the line backer so yes Derek Brown you know make sure we feed him make sure we give him what he needs to Sunday so he has that energy to keep pushing that pocket because I believe in DB I believe in Derek Brown right so again I think he's going to have a phenomenal game and all these guys I think they're just ready to play first game of the season and I think D Brown Derek Brown he will be ready. Yeah I want to see Lee Hunter next to him take up some of that some of that space eat up some of some of the guards in the center space let Derek Brown get one or two one on one matches the really wreak havoc this game and no telling what Hunter's going to do being a being a new guy being a working but he is a mass of human being and having those two guys up front there's going to be opportunities I don't know how you're getting through those two guys and if they're pushing that line back they can make it a rough day for for Caleb Williams just keep discipline on the outside the edges that's my big concern is both both sides against the run as well as the contain so the the

middle those two guys I think they're going to have it unlocked down. All right let's go to another defensive player that's going to have a big impact going into Sunday's game against the Bears and we'll say on the defensive front Jaylen Phillips I talked a lot about Devon Lloyd on Tuesday night being named one of the captains of this Carolina Panthers team but Jaylen Phillips was another high dollar signing that Carolina felt was a point of emphasis the edge rusher that comes over and expected to make a big difference coming off the edge and going after Caleb Williams let's see him get off to an amazing start as a Carolina Panther. Again I just think these two guys are going to make it easy for horn and all these guys in the secondary again Jaylen Phillips he's only going to be as good as again we talk about Derek Brown and the rest you know that everybody else that they rotate in at that defensive line because unlike a defensive in you know those big guys right they get tired

they all sweaty and you know they need a break right so so the rotation is going to be important just like in basketball right the only good is your pinch so yes we're expecting uh Derek Brown to have a great game but those guys who the Panthers are rotated in with Derek Brown gets tired and need a rest they got to come in and keep the momentum going and again we're talking about Jaylen Phillips right now so again Jaylen Phillips he has to go out and earn his money as we were talking about um Bryce Young and and and then David Tepper you know deciding how much money to to give Bryce Young um you know he has steel proof himself well Jaylen Phillips they gave him all that money because they said he's proved himself so Jaylen Phillips has to come off game one game one lights out right so he got to be like uh the rock Jaylen Phillips got to come out and say hey pattern fans can you smell where I'm cooking that's right no you got to get after Caleb this

game like if you can't bring him down make him make a bad play Caleb he takes risks he's going to take shots give our guys in the backfield an opportunity to go after it and get the ball Caleb he will take those shots just get in his face be aggressive attack him you do that something good is going to happen one of those big plays for the defense all right the final guy we want to highlight before we get to our next break uh going into Sunday I'm really excited to see Xavier look at year three everyone loves this guy the former South Carolina gamecock we love to talk about his accent that he has how he sounds the horse celebration that he's got in the end zone catching the touchdown he's a former first round pick for the Panthers at wide receiver measuring in at six one for Carolina so not quite the size and build that Teterua McMillan has for this Panthers team in his career through two seasons he's got 84 catches compared to the first round pick Carolina had a year ago in one year team at Cadd those 70 I think XL needs to have a

major season here as he wants to be a different maker and Caroline is passing game the skills are there's a reason you were a first round pick by Carolina just a couple of seasons ago the question is when is it finally going to click for number 17 Xavier look at yeah we were talking about earlier about team act and having what we want to see out of him it's up to these other receivers to clear some routes and and and spread the defense a little bit give bristles other reliable weapons Xavier Legett when we get down to the end zone we want to put up points he's one of those guys that can go up and and get after it along with along with team act and Darren Waller and the other guys that we got in there so I just want to see a little bit more consistency out of him he could disappear for games at a time let's have every game get him involved a little bit build up his confidence I don't like that phrase I don't like saying it that way but I want to see him just get involved early in the season and just just get rolling a little bit more as the season goes on because last season looks like a regression as opposed to season one and I want to see it go in the other

direction this season yeah and I'm gonna pick it back off with Mike just said I'm gonna use the word the big three the big three right you got Xavier and he got Waller he talked about team act right so again there there are three comfortable receivers that can hopefully and you want them to create havoc and match up so when the defensive of bears want to say hey uh T-Mac is not going to beat us and they start uh double in T-Mac then this is when it's Xavier he has to step up this is where Xavier says hey this is why you guys brought me in here right um again Waller Waller hey when they decide because they can't run defenses where they double the outside receivers and they say hey we're going to see if the Titan can beat us so somewhere in that game somebody is going to be open will it be Xavier will it be Waller or will it be T-Mac but at the end of the day Bryce Young has to be able to read the defense and get the ball to the

open person because we have three people that I just named three monsters that if they get the ball they shown that they can do some things with it so uh I like the fact that we have a Xavier I like the fact that we got Waller uh who could work on that middle of the field and then you got T-Mac they can do everything he's a commuter he could do anything run any route so I'm happy with what we got with those three receivers yeah and then that's not even dimensioned someone like Jalen Coker and what he can bring to the passing game what are the running backs add what element could that be for Carolina and so much more so excited to talk about more of the actual keys to getting the job done and beating the Chicago Bears coming up on Sunday for the Carolina Panthers will get into that a little bit more after this timeout today's episode is brought to you by the Dell XPS I'm Wes Goldberg from Lockdown NBA Daily and Lockdown Heat so what does it feel like to have a better laptop like the Dell XPS powered by Intel Core with a premium design that's thin and light

how about the panthers front office they were all on the same page this offseason made great draft picks did a wonderful job in free agency talking about Jalen Phillips and Devon Lloyd you could tell they were on the same page great organizations win because operations matter and that's why you should get Odo Odo is one platform to manage grow and scale your business try for free today at od.com slash locked on that's Ode OO.com slash locked on Odo is a proud sponsor of the lock on podcast network all right welcome back in JJ Jackson alongside Mike jitkiss and Tyrone pool and we're talking about this panthers game coming up on Sunday against the Chicago Bears and talking about keys to success for Carolina fell asleep talked a lot about what it will mean for the passing game to be effective the biggest thing there is going to be protecting Bryce young no quarterback can make things happen if they're on the ground he's got to be upright

and that's going to make it very important for this panthers offence of line to be on their their peace and queues and make it sure they've got things ready to go yeah like with protecting Bryce that's that's got to be goal number one and having Monroe Freeland out there give him somehow give him help early on give him a chance to get comfortable against the D playing right tackle a place that he only played 160 snaps in college at right tackle it's a completely different ball game the left tackle get him some help make sure that Bryce is covered on the outside again we have we have the big money guys on the inside get get Monroe Freeland help on the outside ship him with the running back the tight ends but keep him upright we do that that's that's goal number one you take care of the quarterback and then build on from there yeah and I just think offensively we can't give any tips away to the defense we can't give tips away when it's going to be run we can't give tips away when it's going to be passed because defensive players will look for those things we're looking for the lean if that offensive lineman is leaning in a certain way

we've looked at them and these defensive players for the Bears they've looked at them these guys have taken home them they looked at last year's theme so they're going to be looking for latinises I remember when we played the 49ers and Jerry Rice as greatest Jerry Rice was Jerry Rice had tendencies and we knew whenever Jerry Rice got in that slot and he was on the left side and he had his outside leg up usually when you're on the left side of the ball you got your inside leg closer to the ball up but when that outside leg was we knew he was going straight across that field because we knew that the 49ers offense was timing right so that same action plays with the offensive line defense aligners are reading our office alignment and they can't give away the tips and also what I know is going to happen in the game the Bears are going to blitz and a blitz is going to get free now Bryce Young is going to have to step in step up stay in the pocket and he may have to take a hit

and deliver that ball so at the end of the day I just want to make sure that we communicate and we don't give up freebies we don't give up a situation where's a blown assignment and the great thing about it we want to worry about crowd noise because we're at home yeah that's a big thing that the the bank is hopefully going to be rocking in favor of the Carolina Panthers and obviously worrying about crowd noise would be you know the fall starts department making sure the offensive line is in a good spot there because nobody is successful offensively when you're consistently having to play behind the chains if Chicago's forcing a whole lot of third and longs that puts just so much more pressure on everybody and you just don't want that to be the case they get about other keys to the game for Carolina I think for the Bears quarterback Caleb Williams you got to make him uncomfortable you want to make sure that Carolina secondary and JC Horn and Mike Jackson can absolutely feast and that's going to be done by that defensive front getting after

the quarterback. I love I love the call there but first if I don't have a voice next week it's because I'm out there I'm doing my job as a fan I'm going to stream my lungs off on Sunday anybody that's there do your job get a couple fall starts but yeah make him uncomfortable fans you could do your part by being loud don't let him hear the in the headset make everybody do their part but yeah get after him make him make mistakes he will take chances he will take risks that's just how he plays the game you do that you make him uncomfortable you make him make a mistake take advantage of it those every one of those mistakes are going to add off Carolina does not let the other teams get a lot of possessions so every one of those mistakes one of those turnovers that's just a little bit closer to winning this game. Yeah and I think also what's going to contribute to the Bears having a very tough time offensively is the special teams now doing the first week a couple of weeks of NFL season you see a lot of big plays special team

wise and I'm hoping that our special team can take advantage and keep that tradition going where the special teams are usually a hit of the game when it comes to offense and defense and also speaking of special teams when we punt the ball punt the ball to the point where that crowd noise does have an impact because it's tough on the quarterback when you have to snap the ball from your own five ten-year line no no you're in the depth of the lion Dean in this case the path of Dean so again keep them peeing deep and that noise becomes so loud that yes we want the Bears to say hey take a time out or we want the referee to come and tell the fans hey y'all got to quiet down because y'all are too loud. That'd be great. Yeah when you're the home team if you're being told you're too loud I think that's a great thing that's going in your favor and if they're loud hopefully that means the Carolina's in a great spot and the scoreboard is looking friendly for the

for the fellas and Black so thinking about this Panther's team and another kind of key to the game I think it's going to be establishing the running game for Carolina and what they're able to do rushing the football we've talked about Bryce Young a whole lot let's just make his life easier let's see a big tuba Hubbard game this is the featureback that Carolina paid an off season ago they had Rico Dattle a season ago who turned in to RB1 by his play on the field and Rico Dattle turned that into a payday to go and be a featureback for the Pittsburgh Steelers alongside Jalen Warren now Jonathan Brooks is finally healthy the Panthers first selection a couple of seasons ago and can Jonathan Brooks supplement tuba Hubbard effectively and Carolina be able to run the ball that's what I say we win this game it's it's going to be all about the run game bears last season week against the run does don't look like they're going to be much better this year just looking from last year to this year if we can get that run game going and establish the ball control and own it

that's that's what we're going to we have the we have the trio the three-headed monster of the tuba and Brooks and AJ Dillon when we get to the goal line and we have those fourth and one those short yardage plays we have the option to run the ball this year but we got to win the line of scrimmage too so I don't want to want to change it from the running backs but we got to own that line of scrimmage we got the running backs we have every single running back has a different skill set so if we utilize those guys the right got the right way I mean it could really keep the bears on their toes I'm gonna go in I love the running game so much I'm gonna go back to back when the old used to be named watching the rescuers and that's a clip where this guy says crack on that diesel wrong crack on that diesel well we're gonna crack on that hubber crack it up right crack it up and run him and run him and and I feel like if we can get a couple of big plays in the running game right what is the big play in the running game a big play is 15 yards or more right so when that running back gets that ball and goes through that line of scrimmage if you get 15 yards that means that

you're in the secondary if you get 15 yards that means that your office line is blocking and they're opening up those gaps right so I would love to see our offense have at least about three to four big plays in the running game that's 15 yards and if we can do that then JJ Mike I do believe the pathers will be winning this game which is what we ultimately hope I'm here for a win that's what I want to see Carolina be able to do starting off the season on a high note taking on the Chicago Bears on Sunday 1 p.m. Eastern kickoff for Carolina all right we've got to talk about what else is taking place in the national football league what impact it has on the Carolina Panthers and so much more we'll get into all of that when I were locked on Panther Squad show continues here in a moment for the first time ever in the US the best U23 wrestlers in the world descend on Las Vegas for the 2026 galaxy U23 world wrestling championships at the UNLV Thomas

I was an exciting game last night and I'm a little

worried about the Patriots with Drake May like three interceptions in that fourth quarter what's going on it was in the running for MVP last year that's not the way you want to have your MVP franchise quarterback starting your game but it was a way what a way to kick off the the NFL season and the first game of the year I'm pretty sure we don't have the at least I don't have the Nelson Niesen Raiders the television Raiders for the game so I'm pretty sure everybody tuned in and watched so all the football fans football is here now so you know it was a great game this start the season off and even the game tonight it's a very close game right now and I think you know with the league you're going to see a lot of that I think the there's just a overall there's not really a dominant team in the NFL on like years before you know you look back and you always knew there's certain teams they were just going to be dominant but I just think now

the teams are just one player way a couple of timeovers away from winning so I think this week the rest of the games I think they're going to play out the same way I don't think we'll really see too many blowouts I think we're going to see a lot of close games that I think is with the NFL really once yeah Tyrone the word that we hear thrown out all the time then it's is parody right that everything just kind of feels equal across the board that's why you look oftentimes at these spreads in the NFL and they're super close I mean the margin between wins and losses oftentimes comes down to what five or six plays and so you look at what happened last night the Superbow champion Seattle Seahawks earned the win again they're there in the NFC which is in the Panthers picture we've got two more NFC games our teams playing right now as we said and so as you're kind of scoreboard watching it's early but we often see that some of those early results within

the season can help dictate seating what comes with seating is playing at home and we know how that goes for many teams week ones alive don't fall for it it's a lie teams that look great week one you see him at the end of the season with three or four I don't buy in in the week at week one and week two there's a couple games that I really do like this weekend though oddly enough both in the AFC because of the the storylines going with them the scene mohomes is coming back right on Monday he's going to be starting so seeing him and Bo Nix coming back from injury seeing how they come back from those but I'm really looking forward to the bills pecs and that defense and Josh Allen DJ Moore that pairing and how that goes so some exciting matchups but these these week one and week two things like I so many years have been burned by seeing a team 2 and 0 and then they have five wins on the season in the past Carolina included so yeah it's a time just time just hype that football's back yeah you know I think this I think you know as a player being on the inside I know JJ we talked

and Mike we all talked about last show if we can get the inside scoop right the fans could get the inside scoop how that would just make the game even more interesting okay well I'm gonna give you and the fans a little bit more of an inside scoop right so how we break down the season right it's a 17 game season previously we all know it was 16 so it was easy to break it down in the four quarters 444 and we said that if we can go three and one in each of those quarters we end up with a 12 and four record which is probably going to allow you to win your division and probably give you a pretty good opportunity to win the conference okay we just add one more game to it so still we have to break it up now 4445 so in this week game one that's part of that first quarter that's the four games so we want to finish three and one and even if the patterns work to lose to the

bears if we still can finish three and one in the first quarter and people will forget about the bears until and if we get to the playoffs and we got to play the bears again then week one we'll come back up again so I'm looking at it from the standpoint okay we going into this game hey that's win it that's what we want to do but most importantly these first four games let's go three and one yeah I remember John Foxx always preaching that every single conference three and one three and one every quarter and I'll tell you it's driving me nuts because I'm working on my season picks for the Panthers right now and I want to break it up by quarter and do each record and it's driving my OCD absolutely nuts they have that five in the one quarter it's it just I can't do it we got to go back to 16 for that reason alone yeah you're we're still living in the world where there are 16 games and then now there's that 17th game that yeah just doesn't make all the stats line up evenly and whatnot so I'm excited to see all these games play out this

weekend and future opponents right for Carolina and many of them will be within division like we talked about on Tuesday night show so what the Falcons can do against the Steelers Saints taking on the Lions Buckeneers playing Cincinnati how about in Atlanta it seems as though there was another two injury that took place in practice today stumbled back the video clips of folks have seen it it just looks old you know like an old person kind of falling down and grabbing his back so who knows what Atlanta looks like and then Carolina taking on the Falcons next week I got nothing for the Falcons like I feel for the fans and they're in our division but I don't know I don't feel I wouldn't feel comfortable to in there I don't want to see him get any more injuries after seeing a couple of those ones in the past so but yeah it's it's it's messy over there yeah and again you know it's it's you don't want to see players get hurt but if you're looking at it from you know wins

and losses right the pathers we pull off the win against the Bears and then going to play the Falcons and they're kind of wounded right so they're easy prey so I think at the end of the day it's business you don't want nobody to get hurt but if their starter is hurt then you're hoping that they have to change the scheme but in this case they already have pinnocks so they have a little bit of history with him so really do they go back and we see the old Atlanta Falcons of last year so either way I feel like if the pathers we beat Chicago we played the Falcons we know what they're going to be about and we had a great success against them so I think this game here don't want to ever look past an opponent because that could be bulletin board material but I do believe the pathers will

have a great showing against the Chicago Bears I think the defense is going to play very well I think Bryce Young he's going to play very well T-Mac is going to play very well as they be you're going to play very well and we're going to hear some big news and everybody going to start falling in love with Darren Walder and they're going to say hey who are these pathers now what I don't want is the pathers to get so overconfident right that they start believing the press keep it one game at a time and we'll find ourselves with a record that everybody will say oh oh I've knew I knew we could do it so at the end of the day those guys in the locker room just have to continue to believe in each other believe in the game clean and go out and make it happy yeah I got a question for you Tyrone when you're preparing for quarterback like we're playing the Falcons week two if we're practicing preparing for a guy like two of being in there and they change

it up midweek you don't know who's going to be the quarterback how does that affect preparing for the game or the game on Sunday because both quarterbacks have completely different play styles does it really impact the game or is the game playing different like any insight from your playing days that you could share well I think one thing that's going to be consistent right that you look at both quarterbacks were lefties they left these pinnocks left handed two left so we know right away we don't have to worry about trying to do a mirror of swap right so we knew we know what they did with pinnocks last year okay so the Falcons are only going to do with what they know that person can do so I don't think it'll be too much of a game adjustment we just got to go back and revisit them look at what worked and what didn't work and then come up with a few little things to throw them off blitz packages trick plays on offense but let's just continue to be who we are let's run

let's take care of the ball get the ball in the team max hands and let's let brown and let's let fillups and let's let horn and let those guys make plays we are who they say we are and we keep pounding in Carolina which is what I'm hopeful for like I'm excited to see the season play out and obviously reflecting on your career has been such a fun thing that we get to do here throughout the lockdown panther squad show tyrone I've even thinking about in game adjustments right that you're talking about being able to watch it on film but even going back to your playing days like if there's a quarterback switch that played out mid game right now they're able to go to the tablets and see live video of what just happened in that sort of that was it really the case for you back in your playing days tyrone what was that like yeah yeah back um um you know they had the paper you know they were they were stapled together so you know you're looking at frame by frame

picture wise and and and that's why after the game you would see some of the pictures still on the ground you know guys looking at the picture and then they pay hey let me take a look at those pictures right and then after you look at the paper you know you sit on the bench and boom but now they got the tablets and you know so you really do look at it you're like this would be so much easier if there would have been a tablet back in without a doubt it's just like today in the store they say do you want a printed ticket or do you want to email oh email it to me so it's less paperwork right so again technology is so phenomenal and you know from the training you know just technology has advanced uh the athletic plate AI has just advanced the way we see the game as fans so it's phenomenal where the game is going but again just like Mike said earlier uh JJ I know you agree old school is old school you still got to run the ball I don't care if you got a tablet

or you look at that paper you still got to run in the egg gap the big gap the seed gap outside runs so you know what uh the game hasn't changed that much yeah and I was thinking about what you were talking about you at the headlines and the press and that sort of thing it's so much more accessible nowadays like going back Facebook Twitter Instagram all these things did not exist whatsoever in your playing days they got it didn't exist somebody whoo man by goodness and I'll finish you ask any uh veteran guy uh you know that played uh before uh social media uh became social media it would be a lot of guys praying oh god please get me out of this situation right um again technology these guys have to play up on the so much more scrutiny um you know before the game is over right news about what has happened has already been around has going around the world at least when I was coming through it was getting to that point right of technology uh but man

you still could stop it get to a point but now if something happens you get a notification right away and exactly once they enter you get that enter man that's it everybody knows about it's that you get someone's reporting the news that's for sure well this has been fun guys we've got uh game coming up on sunday panthers and bears one p.m. eastern kickoff we're going to be able to have a reaction squad show on sunday julien will also keep everybody covered with the locked on panthers reaction happy to be all in this locked on panthers world and I can't wait guys the next time we talk together we will know whether or not the Carolina panthers have won the football game and I've got a good feeling I've got a good feeling this team can start off one and oh how about you guys I'm leaving like this right here I got a feeling after it's going to the super bowl I got a feeling
