Panthers Sign Kenny Pickett as Bryce Young's Backup

It's a one-year deal worth $4 million guaranteed, with incentives that could push it to $7.5 million. Pickett is a 27-year-old who the Steelers took in the first round back in 2022. Former Panthers coach Matt Rule and GM Scott Federer checked him out before drafting Young. In two years as Pittsburgh starter, Pickett went 14 wins and 10 losses. Then he backed up in Philadelphia and Las Vegas the last two seasons. He wraps with a 62.2% completion rate, 16 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Panthers won a younger, more athletic option behind Young after three years with 38-year-old Andy Dalton. They let Dalton look for a trade, but no deal has happened yet. For now, they might keep Dalton to compete with Pickett for the backup spot, since cutting him saves little cap space.
