Panthers Sign Jaelan Phillips, Lions Pass on High-Priced Pass Rusher

It's a four-year deal worth $120 million, including $80 million guaranteed. This comes right at the start of the legal tampering period for free agency. Phillips built his career after splitting college time between UCLA and the University of Miami. The Miami Dolphins drafted him 18th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie year with the Dolphins, he racked up 8.5 sacks along with 42 combined tackles and a fumble recovery. That remains his career high for sacks. Later, after nearly five years of Miami, Phillips got traded to the Philadelphia Eagles midway through the 2025 season. He started all 17 games that year and added 5 sacks to his total.
