One note: During our conversation, Patrick brought up a teaching he'd recently heard that claims to show that Cain was literally the offspring of Satan. We recommend an excellent study on the nature of the being in the garden called The Nachash and His Seed by Dr. Michael Heiser (PDF document).
We also note, as Sharon did during the interview, that Genesis 4:1 seems pretty clear:
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.
