Oh Get back on the train folks hour to Brian Hayes Jamie McLean and Jeff O'Neal big we are sprinting right now By the way, we're not running anymore Massive hour. We've got nas on the horn. We got Brian Rinnhorst Hazy be listing be listing be listing be listing and get Hazy's bar play Top five bar play X maybe now it's gonna have some input Listen Nas would know in Denver, right? Like I'm sure the avalanche they're not waiting for lines I can't imagine they are in Denver. I don't know what the hotspot is in Denver I'm not sure Nasem does any more either. He's not a guy. By the way, Nas is my partner in last year's Lincoln cup That's right and you guys came back and stole it didn't you an extra extra innings man? It was dynamite Yeah, I was phenomenal you guys to you both you put on a clinic last year here It's from the Colorado avalanche and you're a partner Nasem Kadri how you doing Nasem?
Hey, good guys. How are you? We're doing pretty well You planning on watching this game tonight mini Dallas. What's your plan this evening? Yeah, no, absolutely. I'll be I'll be you know doing a little preschool myself and It's been a great series so far. So it's you know, it's been some exciting hockey in the playoffs this year Nas when you were watching the like yeah, I know you said preschool, but what other than watching the game like a regular dude drinking a beer would what would you be watching like would you Watch defenseman's tendencies or if you saw something or are you just watching the game to see what the hell's going on? Oh, yeah, I mean, I think you try to have some takeaways and and obviously you know play yourself in some situations out there where You know break down what plays you could make and what plays you shouldn't make, but I mean for me personally. I like to watch the PKs and You know see what we can utilize on the power play and yeah, and obviously that's a big portion of the series is special teams. So
So those are always my favorite to watch is just like you know entries in zone type type scenarios that I feel like You know, you'd get some good pointers from So Nasem with you guys having to sweep and some time off as Jared Bedner given you guys Some rest or is he running many many camps that kind of keep you sharp waiting for your next opponent? I think there's a balance, you know for sure. I think you gotta gotta stay ready But you know first couple days. I think we we had completely off and which was nice to just kind of detach a little bit and You know and in the playoffs you can get pretty consumed with You know with the on ice portion and hockey in general. So it was just nice to have a couple days to online and spend with the family But You know last couple days we've been ramped that back up and You know, there's some uncertainty obviously what when we play next, but We'll definitely be ready to go with Nasem cadre and you know, it seems like it's from our standpoint It's been a seamless transition for you back into the avalanche organization
Take us through that though like once you the the anxiety leading up to the trade deadline The uncertainty of where you were possibly gonna land and when you get the call it's Colorado A. How excited were you and B. You know, how did you prepare to kind of walk back into a room that you were very familiar with? Um, yeah, I mean certainly anxious moment setting anxious is probably an understatement. I mean when you hear when you hear multiple teams that are kind of In the mix and you're all your heads kind of bouncing all over the place somewhere you could end up but uh You know, I'm thrilled that Colorado made a made a late push and Um was able to acquire me obviously a probably you know the top destination I had and saw the familiarity and the in the history we've had so um Yeah, man, it was it was a world one for for 24 hours there and and it was uh You know, I'm just kind of still honestly still trying to figure out how how I ended up back here
well sure glad I am and and yeah, I mean walking in the dressing room Easy, so uh, you know, obviously a lot of guys know me. I know them um You know coaching staff pretty much the same management the same so it was uh You know, it was relatively simple for me. It was it was nice to be back As just take us through like when that transaction goes down for the people listening and watching Like what has the what are the real life things that happen like you get on a bird with a bunch of suits in your family stays back And they got to put the house up for sale or is that just get everyone get to Colorado and then deal with all that stuff after like just take us inside of the details of what actually goes on Oh, yeah, there's there's tons. I mean, I think I'd be I'd be on the phone, you know for for a couple hours If I went through everything, but uh long story short. I mean you get the call You know for me it was a little bit bizarre because I I got in the call. I think uh
You know in the afternoon on the trade deadline day flew out then flew out the next morning arrived that next night and then I actually thought we had a Um an evening game against Minnesota was the first game I played in um, but then I looked up the schedule and it was a new game So no morning skate no practice fresh off the bird at like eight nine p.m. Uh, just with you know one Luggage piece at the rush to the right. I actually have to drag the equipment guys in the To get me all suited and booted with my gear Uh, night before so it was you know, you're kind of thrown right into it But sometimes it's better that way you don't overthink it. You just go out and play Well, the amazing thing is you reference, you know, same coaching staff, which is so rare in the NHL Where you know, like I think Marty St. Louis is like third or fourth in the league in tenure I think he's top five and it feels like Marty got there like two weeks ago Um, it's just you've you've played for so many, you know, a variety of coaches. Obviously you went through some coaches in Toronto
Um in Calgary But bedner just being there and being stable It's like him and John Cooper and I guess brinda more probably in Carolina that just represent this stability and consistency How much of a benefit is that To yourself to the players Having a guy and Jared Bender who's been there that long and obviously is very comfortable in in running that bench Yeah, that's he's great. I mean he's uh, you know Certainly earned the right to To be there as long as he has and you know, I think he does a great job getting the boys prepared and You know as a I mean new-wish player. I guess coming to the team Um, you know, you already know what to expect you already know what the coaching staff at expectations are what they what they like what they don't like So you know, it was easy for me to you know get a read on the room on the team and just Um, you know, sitting seamlessly So with you being we'll call it the veteran guy now at 35 years old. You've seen you know, you've been there
Done it uh, you know for every different facets What could you tell us about the difference between maybe when you came into the league to where it is now with the younger players and you were a young guy That was up and coming and had a you know, tremendous reputation and now you're a veteran guy who's been a winner Now you're around and have been around a lot of young players in the league What's the difference when when when you were young to where it is now? Well, I think I mean, I think all the Younger kids or the new kids. I mean they they seem to be just all about hockey. I mean It's it's it's literally all they do all they want to do and Um, I mean for me as a young young player. I knew I I really like the game hockey Of course, I loved it and I love being out there and playing but No, there was a you know an off-ice component that you'd enjoy as well But you know, I think young kids now are just you know, they're so so dialed in and you know, even if You know, you're out in the playoffs in a week or the season ends. It seems like you know, they're back on the ice in a few days and
Just just can't stay away from it. Which which I'll I'll never understand I like to let I like to let my gear collect a little bit of dust You know, you're at joke course Before Travel back on, you know what I mean? Yeah, it's you know, it's it's it's good because they're just you know, they're locked in and they You know, they really enjoy the sport and just being at the rank and you know, it's you kind of feed off it a little bit Nate talk about our Nate Nas talk about Nate McKinnon like there's legendary stories that this guy It's just like maniacal about winning where it's like no Pop in the dressing room and The food and just just is every day routine like how crazy is the stuff that goes on with this guy as far as is like Desire to get better and is a desire to win every night That's I mean that's it. He's a ferocious competitor and that's kind of always been my takeaway with Nate and
Obviously, we we get along great. We've we've had some great chemistry on the ice on off the ice. So Um, I mean for him he's just he's just always looking to find another gear which which I can certainly appreciate and I mean, I don't think it can it can fool you. I mean he's got his guilty pleasures too. So I don't I don't think Everything's all like, you know, keen wand and broccoli constantly. I think he uh he knows when when to pick a slots and Um, you know, just just what a player. It's been such a such a treat just you know watching him play and and You know being on the ice with him and just uh, you know, I think he he pushes everybody to get better just because You know what he does out there is inspiring it kind of drives everybody else kind of into the fight with him Well, you guys are sitting pretty right now uh home ice throughout the playoffs and you're waiting to see if you play Minnesota or Dallas You might get that answer tonight if not you probably have to wait a couple nights That's probably a bonus for you guys of this goes seven
So we'll be tracking it. We're uh following you guys as always We wish you nothing but success and thanks for doing this today. Noz and we appreciate it All right boys next having me on have a good one. You got it. Noz and cadre joining us here on the maple Toyota hotline red tag days are here Check out the Toyota Crown Signia effortlessly tranquil beautifully designed and remarkably distinctive This is maple Toyota right in your Canada's Wonderland and the maple out of mall Okay, thank you to noz and I like that old school. Maybe you'd just take a peek at what's going on out there New school go home and shut it down and play video games and go to the rink in the morning. It's crazy Yeah, I told you I enjoyed your routine. Got it. I enjoyed it. My end of the year routine was about a month straight Cancun for seven days Back with my boys at home and then Just yeah, it was it was a month long better just Was it a ten pack would you put ten pounds like what you know usually like guys put
Weight on at the end of the season other than seven or eight years I didn't even jump on a scale. I was 191 for a long time I later on Not so much Well, I know that you know some guys that played with could eat McDonald's every day and have six percent I was basically he could eat anything he wanted and he would just he would lose weight if if he ate that it was He's a freak of nature. Damon Lankel was the guy that I remember him that guy was my roommate at the under 18 tournament in Japan He was a break. Yes, and toughest nails like oh god. Yeah, scary top scary tough Like that's kind of like noz. I'm like noz. I'm not he's not cut. He's not big But he's kind of he's Yeah, why are you in Lanky, but it will fight like a train to absolutely Yeah, yeah has thrown some massive hits in his career And he sounds like he's pretty happy being in Colorado Well, I wouldn't you be absolutely exactly you know sweep the kings you're sitting at home
It's gonna get tough now. I mean not the third unaware of that, but it's gonna start to get difficult here Okay, I've got my Listing updated bar playlist you guys want me to get to this one day and Thursday every Monday and Thursday now you got me because Darf Lidar is It's an omission right now, but I'm thinking Darf Lidar is like one of these younger guys who doesn't want to go to the bar Right, he's at home watching game tape Right, so I'm gonna say the bar play isn't necessary because I don't think he was out there, but you're probably right Let's give him an honorable mention Lidar was phenomenal and last night in particular he was incredible and he was great all season Like down the stretch you you you're not a team built like that Unless you like and you don't get in unless you get really good goaltening Like you just need it and it's happened number five on the list. I've got Caprice of it number five currently leading the playoffs and points This is a guy who's about to be the highest paid player in the league And there's always some nerves about that and I scored an empty net of the other night
But still it closed the game out you have three points in the game Dry settles there too at nine points the quiet like I wouldn't say quiet nine points But like just routine dry subtle every single year in the playoffs the guys gonna have a million points But Caprice of you know not a ton of playoffs history You know not not plan up the middle of the a is not gonna play 25 minutes a night kill penalties and do all this kind of stuff He's he's pulling his weight like he's been really good. He's been really dynamic and nine points is nine points So I got Caprice of it number five. I have David Pasternack at four He was not on the list last on Monday. No, he wasn't This is basically a one trick pony to get on the B listing. Yeah, see that's the thing though I thought long and hard. I'm like I should probably still have Hegel on there But I it's a recent it's kind of a reset. Yeah, I mean every guy you got to think after that overtime winner Scoring the goal and incredible fashion Yelling at the Buffalo fans that we're coming back that wreaks of bar play. Yes, that's like Dougie 92 with no gear on walking in
To yeah, I don't know if you can touch Doug Gilmore quite yet in you know 93 94 I'm not that's 92 Dougie Gilmore no gear on going into the sharp club I don't even think you know what that's all I've heard of it I never got to experience it. Yeah, but I've heard of it Number three Jacob Dobish. I got Dobish as the guy. I wasn't gonna put taxi and I thought a Gallagher But it was a great story to see him score and he was out there late in the game You know trying to kill the game down and he's he's a warrior and he hasn't been playing and but Dobish pictures of of Gallagher That's okay. Keep the bucket on keep the bucket on. It's all good But Dobish has been Dobish has been good man, and you referenced it. He didn't get tested Like a ton, but volume counts You know look at the taxi. I go look at the York goal Even if the shots are from the outside they can still beat you and they can be back breaking And the Habs had that game that got into the third I think Tampa threw 17 or 18 shots at him in the third and he held strong
And they love a goal tender in Montreal Love a goal tender in Montreal number two. I got Brett Howden Vegas strip Short-handed short-handed double OT winner at home That guy on the strip. Yes literally walks out onto the You just put him in a bar play hands on when your keys and say take my car home do whatever you can have it Yeah, whatever you want with it. I'll see you later. What a play What a play like this one? Maybe it's got to be stopped though Yeah, it's weird the surprise, you know, I think it's a prize to everyone They're on the power plant. That's what's crazy part. He just steals it turns and fires If a melka's a really aggressive goal tender like he's a first shot goalie. That's just out on it They got him moving a little bit to you know the goal tending in that that series has been a little spot Yes a lot of goals like we we talk about Edmonton and I'm it's five four every night in that series or close to it
But what's what's weird about that sequence is it's a two-man Forecheck on a kill two on four. Yeah, like mariner's in the corner and howons deep like well below the circles Like not playing conservatively at all I appreciate that greatly and they pounced and they made it work. I remember what labby said yesterday That you get a little bit aggressive catch somebody sleeping man. That's exactly what this what I guarantee you Tell us like well both of these guys aren't gonna come fight me for this puck and that's there's curve foot Curfewt that gets snake there Anyway, moving on number one. I've got the stick Chucker himself Cam York Yes, I got Cam York, you know in Philly right you're you're you're on broad street an hour and a half after the game You just scored the ot winner to knock Pittsburgh out of the playoffs You know much more significant that isn't Philly that is that they sent Sydney Crosby in the pens home And Cam York does it in overtime and throws a stick into the stands So yes a lot of recency bias. It's not like Cam York has been the greatest player in the playoffs far from it
I will say this shout out to Meechkov you got this started right play last night Got a secondary or got a primer exist there on the York goal, but good for him That's a good response. That's what you're looking for like big pockets like you know what you sat out the last game And I made the stupid comments of get rid of them you put them back in and give them a chance to respond show the coach the only job of the player When this situation happens is show the coach you hated how much that just went down. Yeah, there's some guys We've all seen it in the past where it's like scratch and they go out there and act like nothing happened You've got to show the coach how much you hated that it's like me and Jamie talk about every veteran guy that we ever played with that There was a healthy scratch the next practice was automatic fight they'd get in a fight practice because they want to show the coach that they're And they're hourly and they're not going to accept it Yeah, and the one last thing hazy for any player That's losing their salad You've got to go to the ally afraid he's school of salads in New York
He rode up the boards smashed into the partition Was unconscious and on the icy grabbed his bucket and put it on because he was not Going down that road unconscious. Yeah, I know I I appreciate that to find that video though. We got to find that where he like Dogey find the video. Help it a bridge loaded off of his There was one. I don't know which particular play it was. It might have been the one where he rode up the boards And unconscious he still had the whereabouts Should just grab the bucket put it back Okay, but love to his head Instinctively cover it up Instinctively and unconscious right said this thing's going on. Yeah, it just happens Speaking of videos, we're going to come back. I have access to a video that has been sent my way. Oh my god We're gonna play a video. It's a supporter video. We're gonna play
We're gonna play a video here that was shot this morning We will play it As well overdrive continues TSN 1050 Anna and on TSN 4 This May I have radio celebrates Asian heritage month Discover powerful stories vibrant cultures in unforgettable music From inspiring podcasts to playlist that span east south southeast and west Asian artists We're honoring the voices shaping our world Oh Listen now on the free iHer radio app And iHer radio dot c a All right, that's better in the hour powered by fan duel Brian Windhorst in just a few moments as well on the raptors losing last night Sounds like Brandon Ingram is a Questionable to play tomorrow night. I can't believe
About that vibe. It's just he's been terrible and he was terrible to start the game last night and then it's a heel inflammation Yeah, which like I do we need you they need you got to play like you that you you got to play forget the money forget everything else You're young enough got you're very young guy relatively speaking and you're an incredibly important piece They couldn't score in the four quarter without him and I know he hasn't played great the first four games I can't get the negative thought out of my head. It was just from being like pissy at the beginning of the series that he's like i'm gonna show you guys I always get that thought in my head and there he goes Yeah, and walking down the hall and and questionable for game six Scotty said he's gonna be okay But he was banged up last night as well Um, and they just they went cold in the fourth quarter so windhorst on that more still to come So this morning Oh when I were off, you know doing a shoot with a bunch of great people and we've got a really exciting thing coming up next week That we're gonna announce and we're gonna get into very soon
And luckily for us and anyone that was working on the site there was It was catered effectively right there was there were muffins and quissons and coffees and fruit and it was just phenomenal It was an incredible vibe and everyone was in great spirits And Which I think was a very nice touch because this is unusual I've been to a number of events that are catered. I don't recall seeing a little basket with chocolate bars and little bags of chips and stuff like that And within that basket there were Or snickers bars And I spotted them the second I walked in there and I said I haven't had a snickers bar in a long time I can't wait to have one later. It's eight in the morning. I can't do it now. I'm not going to do it now But surely there will be snickers bars here When I At 11 11 11 30 a.m. I returned Back to now the crime the scene of the crime and the snickers had been swiped out Alongside the kit the Kit Kat bars
The problem bars the bags of chips the peanuts There are a lot of things in there Now I was curious Who was the one They Possibly do that And you know when you watch like law and order you see these movies and then they find access to video tape and they show The yes The trigger walking to the room or leave the scene of the crime roll the tape Joe Oh no, oh no Okay, so that bag is full of stuff now the camera was not For your sake, you're very lucky the camera was not actually At the candy station, but this is you exiting trying to play
The bag of the Santa coffee like look at this guy I was literally Do you remember in the original but dude? How do they not have the actual like the The theft I guess they're the video they're still working on it as my Might have been scrubbed, but do you remember the born identity when that guy walks out of the the consulate and He's he's I want to say is the the Chinese diplomat. He's walking out with the suitcase and they have the that's basically oh Yeah, like that's you see these in movies And then you know and it's an America's most wanted if you like and that was the last we saw as he walked out the door exactly Walking out with his duffel bag full of snickers and kid cats. I am so glad that they don't have Stuffing because you know what I did I Left the table with all of that stuff And then I took two steps and I said you know why don't grab one more snickers and I went back
No, if they got if they got back. I'm begging them to find that tape. I just don't know Unbelieve you want to go tee it up there Unbelievable place. Yeah, they always seem to have better weather than north kind of GTA go to Yeah, it's a really fun course really really fun course and it's a really good shape So Barry if you can do us that favor but that alone do I find that almost more funny You walking out trying to pretend like nothing happened And the little fake stop and chat as if you know you're being watched because people are like this guy You can't just run out with that kind of stuff But dude imagine Barry his like his head must want to explore because I asked him For the bag right and he went into the kitchen and got me the brown He must have thought like I'm putting a sweater or something It was to rifle bags of chips for my wife and like snickers bars crime stoppers Yeah, that's a crime stoppers. That is a crime stoppers video. That's what it is
Thank you one more time. Give us the walk out so casual too. So happy with himself. Look at this guy Hey, let's see what's going on over here. Oh, that's interesting. I could take it to leave it Okay, now move over here And I'm going to pretend that I'm going to do a stop and show someone so I'm not guilty of stealing all the snickers and the kid Oh my god, it's outrageous Outrages all right. We have Brian. I'm sure Brian's ecstatic with this type of this is a segue for a serious from ESPN The Raptor's still alive big game tomorrow night Here's ESPN NBA reporter and analyst Brian Windhorst. How you doing Brian? Good afternoon guys So Brandon Ingram questionable tomorrow night If he doesn't play if he's not available tonight or tomorrow or game seven How how difficult is this going to be for the Raptors in your opinion to not only survive game six
But possibly win this series Well, it depends. I mean the Brandon Ingram Who's the all star or the Brandon Ingram who played the first Four and a half games You know frankly a good place to start would be to recapture the Scotty Barnes from game three and four in the first half of last night He I mean, I can't I it's not my leg, but it looked to me like he banged knees and then really wasn't as effective later on Also what Ingram's not on the court the calves whole The defensive system isn't evolved around him and they can pay more attention to Barnes So like really by the end of last night's game The wrapped you know, I don't know. Maybe it was a super effective defense But to me the Raptors were down, you know, two and a quarter of their star players And you know, you I mean with all due respect, you know I respect but James and battle has done and Jamal shed But they're out there trying to win a road game five with two guys who were going through the NBA as two a guy And then it was um, you know, it was I mean it wasn't quite smoking mirrors
But those were lay on the table. So I mean, I say this With admiration of what the Raptors are doing and what Darko is getting them to do the With where yesterday's game ended the talent level between the two teams was not Equivalent at all when the Raptors are at full power. Yeah, I mean, they you know, they're right there, but Um, it I mean it was it would have been an absolutely Incredible jaw dropping win had they held on to that frankly that the cabs were still fighting to win the game in the last minute Is not a great sign for the cabs medium term here and my hats off to the Raptors for staying in this because they're only way They're really really able to score with the cabs is by to generate turnovers and go in the half court Or go in the in the in transition Half court they're having trouble because he just don't have enough offensive players So it would definitely help if Brandon Ingram was out there and the Brandon Was able to hit some shots because yes
They've denied him the ball, but no He is not playing to the level that he should be playing under the circumstance and how does this Kind of jekyll and hide behavior from Ingrams particularly in the playoffs match like his his reputation prior to getting here Like how do you explain because he had an unbelievable start an unbelievable first impression of the city of Toronto He was great to start the year and he played a ton, but he like you said I mean, it's it's obviously watching play hasn't been aggressive game one was really strange His post game comments were strange How do you explain a guy who's not a kid who's a veteran who understands how important he is You know playing the way he's been playing throughout this series Well, that is not the Brandon Ingram that I have known the playoffs before and now I'm just going to be honest with you I would not have given him 120 million dollars when nobody else was bidding Okay, I mean, you know, I thought there I thought the raptors stuck their neck out on that contract but And I really didn't like trading for him and he's pretending at the worst frame dangle in the history of
You know us canadian relations, but that's all behind that's all water over the bridge um He is a guy who is very hard to deal with in playoff settings I covered the series that he played with the pelicans a couple years ago Against the sons and he was an out he's just an absolute load to deal with typically in a half-court set Does he six ten? He's he's essentially Kevin Durant Jr Where you can't deal with him because his shot releases so high in his size is so terrific He's a player that you would typically want in a playoff setting because he's a half-court playoff specialist Because if there's so many things you can do and because he can initiate offense You would you would even figure that with quickly out that he would become even more valuable so There's a you know in any long playoff series There's there's ten different dramas unfolding But there's no doubt he is underachieved and that has been disappointing
Especially because the raptors invested so much into him. They basically said This is going to be scotty barns running mate Um, and you know the thing about the raptors they've done a really nice job In talent acquisition like that trade that value of that trade was pretty good The you know the value of you know where they got you all shed how they got quickly I I liked all of these deals, but the but they've paid these guys through the freaking know And you know like I am very excited about scotty barns. He is Really developing into a franchise cornerstone um This series while on one hand I say Boy darker was really getting them to play hard. I really have impressed with how they've battled back over and over and over This is a very expensive team To be not able to perform a little bit better in this you know when when what we've seen so far Well, we haven't even mentioned yak a portal go ahead. Oh
So Brian just saying that non-starter that that is a with all due respect Because the raptors these guys in the raptors front office have built the championship team They have paid guys where no one is bidding and no one was bidding that much on yak a portal No one was bidding that much on branding but I'm not saying I don't want them in my organization I don't want to sign them. I just don't want to pay them those prices same thing with quickly Again, maybe I don't know all the information. Maybe there was some offer out there for quickly that I'm not aware of but Literally the last three contracts big contracts that the raptors have signed the whole league has taken a gasp And said oh my god now the acquisitions of them were beautiful But the but the contracts have been heavy Ryan how far away would you say like the Scotty is the main piece you just gave him props With his development How many pieces would you say they would be away from being like a real deal contender someone like a team the whole league would be talking about the next couple years I mean, I mean you you don't have to ask me that I mean they've
They've done a very nice job to pick themselves up from where they were a couple years ago when they had to move on From the from the you know when they had to move on from Kyle and they moved on from Siacum They've done a nice job rebuilding the core Their challenges They are in you know, you know look around the east look at the teams in the east Look at what Boston has look at what Cleveland has look at what Detroit has Look at the teams in the west You know and say how does this particular group rise up? Okay They've done a really nice job getting from tenth to fifth Getting for higher than fifth is going to be hard and the and the real challenge is going to be The players that they you know where we are in the NBA today and and I understand fans don't always totally fully get this conversation because it's changed Player value from literally just two three years ago is different now A team cannot afford to have One or two bad contracts on its books. It just can't because before it just cost your owner a bunch of money
And if your owner could spend and the raptors were a deeper pocket of franchise If your owner could spend you could buy your way out of a problem. You could survive a bad contract Now when you have a bad contract or two it kneecaps you um In what your ability to build to team build and like by the way I'm not sitting over here saying boy the raptors have some Challenges getting to the next level and ignoring everybody else the calves are in the same boat the calves are the most expensive roster in the NBA Dude that's the most expensive roster in the history of the calves franchise crazy Okay, and they're in fourth place and in the dog fight with the team that doesn't have their point guard That's desperate to play super fast and doesn't have their fast point guard So um, I would say just in general um, you know There are some teams in the east that are going to be challenged on how they get to the next level with the current rules because Some of these kind like it's not much of an evaluation is hey, do you like um Yaka pearl as a player. Oh, yeah, I mean there's a demand for
For a bunch of center like there's a whole bunch of teams that need centers. Absolutely. There's a bunch of teams that have interest Then you bring up yaka pearl's contract. You're gonna get the phone hung up on you It's not about him as a player. It's about the contract. Nobody can take an overweight contract in the apron era That's just reality and the raptors just have a couple of them so They've done a really nice job and I and I'm not ruling out in this series Um, and I love where Barnes is. I love where he's at But the next step will be a challenge and they're having a challenge in the next step in this series Right Well, and you mentioned the calves. I mean they like you said the highest payroll in the league and they're committed You know for for years to come. We'll see what happens with that But obviously that puts a ton of pressure on them and on top of it is the James Harden Legacy, you know, and I've always kind of had a soft spot for him because he plays like he can't wait to go and he's I what kind of want to see him have success not against the raptors But he had a great first two games. He was pretty good last night not great on the road Where do you stand on hardens ability to close here and how significant is the next six weeks for him and his overall legacy in Cleveland
Well, they've I mean I can't say that they've already agreed to a contract because I guess they could look Me in the eye and say that's not true But James Harden had a no trade clause built into his contract this year And he agreed to be traded to Cleveland in mid season Well, why do you think he would do that? He would do that because he had an idea that his contract was going to be he's gonna have an I think worked out So what happened in Cleveland is they were building their team on Evan Mobley's timeline And the Donovan Mitchell trade was to us to go along with Evan Mobley Evan Mobley made all NBA last year with defensive player the year And they have had to accept the reality that they can't build on Mobley's timeline anymore They have to build on Donovan Mitchell's timeline So that decision was a huge gigantic decision and so that's why you end up trading and committing to a future contract With the 37 year old instead of keeping, you know, the 26 year old Darius Garland Okay, so all of those things are going on there, but you know, here's the thing that I say about James, you know, he's played like
In 17 different playoffs So he's got like I was able to generate statistics um On everything that he is all these games where he's been in game five in a two two series That's actually happened 13 times in his career But there's a whole data set on just how James Harden performs in game five was two two by the way It wasn't very good That was that was a better than average performance yesterday even though he turned the ball over a lot So now we go to the data set what's James Harden Profile in three two series where his team is leading Um, I was at one two years ago. They were they were up three two against the uh Against the the the Celtics when he's in Philadelphia. It didn't go well So like Harden could have 35 tomorrow night or Harden could have seven And you know that's that's an uncomfortable reality But that's what the data sets says he could lead the calves into the next round and look let's just be honest here
The stakes on this theory they're pretty high like maybe maybe um The the the the pistons come back and win Maybe that happens But most likely the team that wins this series can have home court the next round The you know the magic win the next round the team that wins this series probably going to be favored to get to the conference finals And the raptors were ahead in the fourth quarter last night. Yeah to go three two with a chance to clinch at home So on one hand, I can talk to you about how we got some flaws on this side of the bracket That's all true, but there's Pretty significant stakes who was going on here and I would just say the the table is still set for the raptors You know they were Not too far away from having a close-out opportunity tomorrow and you know They have played another good game tomorrow night. They make you another shot in Cleveland Well, they haven't won in Cleveland in the playoffs literally ever, but they're hoping to change that You don't care about that stat we keep using that stat in Cleveland
With all due respect it doesn't matter what happened in 2017 What happened in 2017 has no bearing on 2000 true, but they played three games this year there Brian and it hasn't worked either Right, I agree with you in terms of the longevity of it all in the bronze not there anymore But they didn't blow the second half lead yesterday because of what happened in 2006 true Valid so I read yeah, I throw that nonsense out. Okay. We're we're cool with that. We like that idea believe me That's what we're hoping for in Toronto that they survived tomorrow night and back to Cleveland for game seven He is Brian Winhorse to VSPN great catchin up with you Brian. Thank you for doing this Take care. Yeah, it's Brian Winhorse. I don't know what he's asking about I don't know what he's talking about they cannot win in Cleveland in the playoffs. Yeah, it's a fact Well, it has nothing to do with anything. They just don't win in Cleveland. Yeah, the bronze long gone from Cleveland They're still not winning there. Yes, Kevin loves gone and Kyrie's gone and but it's
I guess I I understand what he's saying it's like what we talk about the Leafs every every new Administration it's like well, it's not their fault. They have a one in 60 years and that's true They weren't there 60 years ago and obviously these guys weren't there In 2017, but that's why I went back at them and said literally last night in game one in game two It didn't happen either. So it's not even about 17 and before that it's more about what has literally happened throughout these playoffs and if England does And play quickly's already been ruled out Scotty Barnes is not at a hundred percent or doesn't appear to be it they're they're gonna have to they're in one They're in one. They're in one. Sure, but Cleveland may be the team you want to play when you're in one because they don't look Like they're exactly firing on all cylinders either. They're not buttoned up either. Yeah, they were well with the wraps up Was it 80? It was 89 80. They were controlling that game. There was a ton of point There's a lot of scoring a lot of offense in the first half last night, which was very different from what we saw in game four And they had a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter And then they they scored their first points in the fourth quarter four and a half five minutes in on three throws
Stopped the bleeding a little bit, but they never got the lead back So we'll see game six tomorrow night Raptors Cleveland Jason Minnesota tonight couple games in the Stanley Cup playoffs including the Edmonton or there's trying to survive tonight We'll see that up and recap a busy afternoon. You got to be honest, hey Yeah, either do I This is anaheim's opportunity to To there is shut. Yeah, to bail you go back to Edmonton and you get hey sus and dry side of flying around there You don't need you don't need that you don't want that trouble and same same thing with Minnesota You don't want that you don't want to go back to Dallas like I think you're you're looking at I think these these home teams Got to try and win tonight because you don't want to game set take a page out of Philly last night Right like don't go back to Pittsburgh and they did not because if they'd lost last night They'd be a huge underdog in game seven Yeah, right and obviously it doesn't matter now they won, but I agree. I think Minnesota Can win game seven on the road I think anaheim they would be in big trouble in tough. Yeah, they may be in tough
Yeah, and I would argue the haves or somewhere in between I don't think they're quite the same as Anaheim, but they're not far from that in terms of being raw and young and inexperienced You might want to get that win tomorrow night at the Bell Center That's fair you go back down to Tampa you're playing with some fire there Problem is is anything can happen in game seven like we say all the time Goldie steals one we saw hell about gold medal game didn't matter what Canada did like that type of stuff game seven That's you when it's one and take it all Anything can happen bad penalty you get a five minute major and yeah, it team scores three power play goals It's curtains like you don't well doesn't have to change much Jamie I think they've been the better team for larger portions of the like the play They deserve to be where they're at go ahead and recognize that and take advantage of how you're playing Very them tomorrow night you got an opportunity that building will be oh my god Better be so much fun. I have buddies in Toronto asking me Like do you have any tickets? I'm like how would I have tickets? Yeah, that's crazy at the Bell Center. I'm in Toronto. I don't
No, I don't get me some tickets. Yeah us three wanted to go We would have to buy tickets. Yes, and it would be difficult to do that. Yeah, like very very And they would be five hundred each. Yeah, that's how much we'd have to pay probably more than that. Yeah, more I think it'd be it'd be worth every penny if they win tomorrow's of course, but I yeah, you're not getting A hometown discount on that you're paying your paying sticker price and top dollar. Yes, for sure top Top dollar So anyway, yeah, we'll see we'll see what these teams have in store tonight And the jays are in Minnesota Planned of twins We have one more video in the way out the walk out the kaiser sose leave you to stay You gotta ask Barry like try to get I don't know how there's not a camera in that main ballroom I'm working on it.
