An Ottawa police officer got shot Friday evening while teens tried to grab a homicide suspect from Kansas City, Missouri. This went down around 5.30 p.m. and the 500 block of South Locust Street. The Ottawa cops and Franklin County Sheriff's Office brought in their special tactics and rescue team for the takedown. As officers moved up to the house, the suspect opened fire from inside, hitting one Ottawa officer outside. The injuries look serious, but aren't life-threatening. Paramedics rushed the officer to a Kansas City hospital where he's getting care and expected to pull through. Cops held back from shooting back right away. They locked down the area and shifted to handling a barricaded suspect. No one else got hurt in the mix. Tactical backup rolled in from Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the FBI to help out. In the end, the suspect was pronounced dead right there at the scene. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is digging into the whole thing now, as they do with most officer-involved shootings in the state. Those share more details as they come.
