We're gonna be talking about possible new number one slot receiver Oh, I got some thoughts on this one lots of talk about and then of course this right receiver room in general is this the deepest room we've had in years I know that's saying a lot what what a lot of NFL guys we put You know on the next level, but man. It's a good question. We're gonna get into it Also, uh, the brother devil be going tonight

I don't know how I step foot by and I can't remember ever being this excited During the spring you like I get excited in the fall, but in the spring It's usually like but there's something about this team. There's something about having all these veterans, you know I saw you know Michigan win the national championship last night in basketball and I want to give them their props man They were just better than everybody else. They were bigger and deeper and Hit every free throw and did everything but you look at their team. You know average age It's 22. They had a 25 year old out there every single player was a transfer party You know, I just think it's the new it's the new way that you've got to reload that way

2:06And i'll house their football. We've got somebody quality transfer so many guys out there so many veterans It's just gonna be a really exciting year and uh in 2026. I just I can't wait to see it Yeah, I agree. I mean we've been through a lot of springs Some of them are like, okay, it's cool, you know, we love buckeye football. So we just love it in general But yeah, this has been crazy the 51 new players coming in transfer portal turnover from the angst and hang hand-ringing To bringing the new guys in and even some fans like since we didn't get the five star at every position Then you know, uh, why do we let this person go? But I think those people are quiet now Um, so it's very exciting and each room has its own story and this wide receiver room definitely has its own story. I mean honestly The wide receiver room Who what do you think is the number one story out of each room before we dive into this now? I'm thinking

3:08Why receiver room Lionbackers defensive line offensive line I mean they all have great story lines Who has the number one? I think the wide receiver room um I don't even know if they're number one Because there's so many great story lines Nevada. I know I just kind of sprung that on you Yeah, no, it look it's um, I mean you know, it's kind of a tale of two cities with the uh the wide receiver room as far as I'm concerned because you've You know, you're I should say three cities. You've got the great returning in terms of JJ Smith and seeing his final year I don't have to say what what's that going to be and we're in that of us really know And we know it's gonna be spectacular But we've never seen anything like him before we'll probably never see anything like him quite again So we can't wait to see this next year and then you've got the Chris Henry Jr The fabulous, you know, freshman that's coming to all hype five star You know stuff right there and and then obviously, you know, Brock Boyd and Gilford and some of the guys that are blind

4:10But then you got the transfers. You've got McEwen and Parker which have their own little story So it's it is kind of like a tale of three cities. They're with Ohio State um on the uh in the wide receiver room But a lot of depth a lot of options and then throwing top of that a brand new wide receiver coach For the first time, you know and a dedicated wide receiver coach because remember last year a heartline Was the wide receiver coach who was also the offensive coordinator So to say, you know, I think it's fair to say that he probably was a little distracted With the offensive coordinator responsibilities, you know, considering you look at that same job right now This year is being done by Hankton and Arthur Smith And last year Brian Hartlin was doing the whole thing by himself. You know, I'm saying so I like the division of labor. I like how it is, but yeah, lots of lots of great short lines coming out of the wide receiver room For sure Yeah, now I agree those are great points And yeah, so haven't Hankton here in the difference keeping Devon Jordan on who's a bridge from heartline

5:11To Hankton what they did with what's going on now. I think is great But uh, but yeah, let's start As we talk about this wide receiver room Let's talk about this helping technician nugget which I've been pondering and thinking about in about it So he says I know he's not the biggest I know he isn't the most highly regarded and I know some people think he's just a novelty act But I think he's the answer at the slap position Which has really been underutilized by Ennis who doesn't have the right type of smaller quickness to excel now Maybe Ennis can you know prove that wrong this year But he says put Brock Boyd in there and watch him cook He's been cooking debacks in spring and spot uh spring and let's allow him to do it this fall He's been cooking the starters down to the walk-ons. This is very true Um, but the starting slot Nevada What do you think about ht's post? I mean because what we know Brock has been cooking

6:11everybody But is that going to translate to a starting slap position in the fall Nevada? Well, you know um Yeah, a lot of it's going to depend on how they You know, are we deploying in in three wide receiver looks we talked about that before how much are there spent like those two tight ends Which if you have two tight ends by definition, that means you have two wide receivers, you know But you know Brock Boyd Just reminds me so much and not just because he's white of Anthony Gonzalez You know, I'm saying you remember how Anthony Gonzalez used to operate from the slot And used to use to run those stop and go routes and just it was so clever, you know, um And and you're I don't know if you're old enough You remember when Anthony Gonzalez was being recruited by high state you were you on the boards back then or do you remember much about that? We put a wait year I didn't start following a recruit until throughout prior Okay, that would know no it would have been after that. Yeah, well I to say that when he committed it was met with kind of okay

7:17Great that that's kind of what it was about, you know, I'm saying like like nothing about Anthony Gonzalez I think there's questions whether or not you can play on the off-hand side of the defensive side I think you know a lot of places had him as a defensive dad Um For him to have ended up as a first round draft pick of the Peyton Manning Indianapolis Colts is just Absolutely insane, you know, so it just shows you how You know how valuable and how unique pieces are like that and you you've seen Brady throughout the years Just feast with his little white slot white, you know backs out there They're doing you know, I'm saying like he just would just put one guy out there And they just those guys have very different skill sets Then say a Randy Moss or somebody else on the out you know, I'm saying like they are they're they're all about that Short area small area quickness and lateral movement and being able to you know, you know, fight off the line right there and and get open And I just think Brock's the perfect guide for the you know, you know, like I don't he's not a classic field stretcher and in the

8:21You know, the way that they J.J. Smith is or the way that Marvin Harrison was or Garrett Wilson was or Chris a lot of you You know, he's he's a got a different type of skill set Now will they trust him enough to roll to him right away? I don't know because it's a pretty deep room They paid a lot of money for Parker. They paid a lot of money for a cune. They've got those guys with more experience But Brock Boyd I just think he's got it and I and I think you need a guy Like that in the slot to make the offense really go and I just think I just think I think he's the perfect fit So I when I read that I was like, you know, that just it makes so much sense to me. It's crazy. It sounds Considering you know, what we brought into the transfer portal what we were turning You know, it's played that spot last year. I mean Brandon just he to me. He's not ideal for that spot because he's not a small Shifty guy, you know, I'm saying he seems more of a Huff

9:21You know, I I'm not sure exactly how I described his skill set, but it's it's different than J.J. It's different than a Brock Boyd You know, he and his concertly be insanely valuable for us, but I think Brock Boyd I just think he brings a unique set of skills and I think that Julian saying could really utilize a guy like that in the slot and and it would be fun to watch Yeah, I think Brandon and his a good comp his selling might be K.J. Hill That's just my comp for Brandon and his as far as what because K.J. Hill was very Underrated here. He was very good at what he did He wasn't a burner. He wasn't J.J. Smith, but he got the job done. He was tough He did a lot of the dirty work, but yeah him a Brock Boy running around in number 11 Makes that Gonzalez comparison even crazier and look how he runs the routes. I mean like You know, he doesn't look it doesn't look spectacular But he gets it done. He beat Matthews easily. He's beating a bunch of guys and he's just

10:26He's just money. He just seems to be very reliable again Will this transition or translate to at tech We're like okay, we're dialing up bright boy. We got to match up. I don't know But I mean this kid is just he's earned the respect of so many people and he just keeps doing it I don't know if it's gonna be a starter level. I'm skeptical hip-hop about that as a starter in the slot But I do think he's going to get in the game I think he's going to be sprinkled in and he's just going to force his way on the field in certain spots But I don't know about starting which brings me to another guy Uh Kyle Parker And I want you to okay if you had to make a decision today Nevada and I'm going to play this because I went back and rewashed his film His highlights and he's I mean like he's really good Kyle Parker nobody's saying he's the first round pick right now

11:29But he's really good and he's very reliable Go watch his film at LSU. I mean he was catching everything getting yak Breakaway speed at times. I mean shifty physical You know like he'll get popped and lean forward get the first down so many highlights like that So To me Kyle Parker I just think he's more a little more reliable game ready if we were to compare these two But I don't think Buckeye Nation the casuals are ready for Kyle Parker. They're going to be like who's this kid We know who he is now, but I really like Kyle Parker Nevada Yeah, I know I do too. I just You see when I look at Kyle Parker I look at like a Chris Olave or somebody who's kind of on the outside not in the slot You know, I'm saying I think it's all about positioning. You know, I'm saying Because you know, I look at his strength being his route running his you know his speed

12:32I'm not sure you know the slot guy's getting a lot of press coverage He's got to be strong enough to get those guys hands off him and get him out there. You know, I'm saying and You know, I just I think it's just a matter of Because I see all these same things you do from an ability standpoint from I saw the one great one handed catch in the back of the Anzon The breakerway speed. I mean, I just I just wonder what position they're going to put him at and You know, I that's my only question about Kyle Parker has nothing to do with this abilities It's just about how best to utilize him. I like him on the outside with JG on the other side on the outside And then Brandon Boyd or Brockwood rather or Brandon in his in the uh or Brandon Boyd, which would be a combination of Brandon in his and Brock board if they had a child that would be a I put either one of those guys in the slot because like and you think I think that's how you're gonna best utilize these things That's how you're gonna best attack things and you know, then it comes to like I got like Devin McEun Which I don't know how do you want you know Devin's smallish

13:33Yeah, yeah, yeah, but he's but he's but he's a burner man. He can run it. He can run past guys So I'm not it's really it's really an embarrassment of riches um But you know to have a guy like Parker who came from LSU That's not you know Lafayette state university. That's like Louisiana state like the big one Uh That's that that's really saying something in it because they put us on my receivers out there at LSU Yeah, I was gonna ask you about McEun I guess guns you ahead now who starts in that slot gang one McEun or boy. Let's just get right to it Gun to your Branded inness As they bring it just because he's just so veteran and they've had him there But I think Brock Boyd's gonna work in there liberally I think McEun and Parker are gonna stay on the outside and I think JD is gonna lock down You know the obviously the other the field stretcher side, but um that would be my guess now

14:36They have so much versatility and they could do so many different things Watch it be completely different when they roll it out there In the fall, but that's that's the benefit of having guys that are that are versatile like that But if you said get into my head and we're gonna bet I'm not bet on the incumbent and uh Even if Brandon inness doesn't have the ideal build or the ideal type of situation or ideal type of setup You know he's a veteran. He's a returning captain So it's hard to imagine that they're like hey Brandon and Go down there and get some water bottles and the the pom-poms and just cheer on the other guys That I you know I somehow somewhere I think he'll be finding a way out. I'm just starting to run it up Okay, you cut out for a hot second No, I got you. I mean, I guess there's only a few choices for slot I mean inness McEun, Kyle Parker could play the slot although I I I agree with you. He's an outside guy I believe at best Is there anyone else brought boy McEun inness? Any other guys you think could be a full-time slot?

15:37Because I'm looking at the roster and I'm just like legend bay Yeah, he could yeah, we could definitely shift him motion him out to the slot for matchups That's a good one. I hope he gets back healthy soon. I hope he gets back Yeah, it's a it's a it's a nick. So he's you know he should be back shortly and um Doing it and you know again the knock on legend is he's a little smallest But I mean how many times have we played against teams that are it's smallest guys I've just killed us, you know, I'm trying um, I still have nightmares about that the game against Purdue and what the late rondale rondale more I think I think he passed away recently, but was he the guy that killed us that night and um he wasn't very big You know, I'm saying like that like you're bigger if you get to put him in your hip pocket there Bemozes and nobody you didn't know he's in there. You know, I'm saying. What was he five eight or something? Yeah, he was not a big guy. I mean he was he was not a big dick. He just wasn't tall Yeah, but he just he just killed us Um, and when you look at legend bay like I know he's not tall, but you know

16:40You know, I'm not trying to get weird or anything, but I've seen him in the videos with with his shirt off and stuff and he looks like he works out Yeah, I'm saying His muscles have got muscles. So like you know, he's an athletic guy. That's for darn sure So let me ask you a question Do you think with Arthur Smith and these receivers? We're going to lean into more crossing route This year, it's a two-part question That's the first question, but then I also kind of wanted to circle back to earlier in the week with the um The nugget where he talks about shadow sequencing I think that was kind of overlooked as far as play calling being different not only from a OC standpoint But from a personnel standpoint So I kind of want to get back into that a little bit But crossing routes to me crossing routes is what made Ryan Day famous In 2018 against the team up north we crossed crossing route routed them to death

17:40And it obviously they were a man primarily man team And that's what you run to beat you know for man-beaters But I know I've heard a lot of fans really complaining about not seeing more crosses So what's your thoughts on that and then we can kind of get back into the shadows Well I think you know look Arthur Smith saying when you look listen to his you know camp You know clinic tapes and and camp stuff He you know he's I mean obviously they incorporate cross routes like everybody does But he's a real big believer in like route combinations that get guy that work guys open from one side And that's where you know in the NFL Um you know with with the hashes it's a little bit more It's we've talked about how you know, it's more difficult where you've got wider hashes on the uh on the college side So you know you have more room to run guys open and what I mean by that is you run Two routes that basically you know create picks for somebody else and and

18:44And kind of get that guy open that way As opposed to The challenge with the crossing routes is the time that it takes for those things to develop You know I'm saying because guys got to go all the way across the field and if defenses are adapted handing guys over to each other You know It kind of neutralize it But the stuff with route combinations it's hard to to pick that up You know we saw that last year on a small scale remember the uh the touch-down pass they threw to Brandon Ines right before half time of the Michigan game Where uh, I think it was Max player ran the Michigan guy off and in this game and behind him And was wide open easy pitching get that kind of stuff I think you'll see in abundance with Arthur Smith Him utilizing the wide hash marks to get multiple guys on one side and create you know kind of unfavorable matchup to the defense over there I I really think it's going to be a key for the 2026 offense You know great play now speaking of plays going to this uh Shadow sequencing post and basically says the self-scouting like basically Arthur Smith went through and chose plays

19:50He would call based off of the looks and it says he overlapped heartline only 19% of the time With less than 40% even being the same type of play And basically says up in other words things will be very different on offense I thought that was very significant. I didn't think that was talked about enough. I even posted it in the thread So to me I think fans need to really pair For not like a completely different offense per saying But just different Like 19% That's that's huge. I thought it was going to be more like 55 You know 45 55 19% divided. I don't think I've talked to you directly about this What was your thoughts on that ht post the significance of that and what that can mean For this offense, but also tie to the person now that we've inherited through the portal Well, I think when I read it I just got the impression that it's the difference between a first time

20:53Play collar and a veteran play collar a guy who's done it at the highest level a guy who's done it For one of the top performing offenses in the NFL a guy who's done it as an NFL head coach Um, they're just there are different levels there and I just you know, I just had I think we all had the feeling last year That our offense was just a little wonky You know, you know, I'm saying like it never felt like it was just like cooking like you know when when urban Meyer had the offense cooking With JT bear with Tom Herman, you know, you know, I'm saying or when Or Meyer had it with Ryan Day when Ryan Day was early on as a thing at Ohio State He'd have that all you know saying when we were just just picking them up and just gobs, you know Big chunks and yard. I thought last year everything was just it just it was kind of like pulling teeth, you know No big long runs very few long over the top path, you know Just it wasn't the kind of stuff that we've been used to at Ohio State and I just think I do think it has to do with the Sequencing to plays and I I think we you know, I mean how many times would we run? You know

21:54Well like that one time we started out passing against Wisconsin And we didn't do it again the whole year We didn't do it again the whole year and like and you and I were like that was probably the best sequence a place I saw the entire season and then we never did it again And it's like When you see stuff like that you just kind of throw up your hands and kind of go what and the rules going on there because I thought that they were saving it I thought it was you know foreshadowing what we're going to be seeing the playoff and that now things change because Brian Hart I went to San Florida. They changed the play car. I mean everything kind of got thrown up into the The ether at that point, but I was hoping that we were going to come out You know palms away didn't happen and and and and there we go Yeah, I was there. I was there in Madison with dev Right there great seats in the stadium. Absolutely love that game playing that day the execution I mean it was it was fast. It was RPO. It was dump off to the running backs for big gains It was over the top the car now. Tate

22:55I mean it was great And so I was very disappointed when we didn't see that later in the year against Indiana and Miami although You know the start we had against Miami wasn't conducive to that, but still I was I was disappointed the Wisconsin game was the game I kept pointing back to like yep There it is. It's in the blueprint This is when we flip the switch the Wisconsin game and Wisconsin's defense It was Wisconsin was a great team of raw But it was mainly their offense their defense was not terrible their defense was solid and we were on the road I was impressed with that So I'm really I'm really curious to see What Arthur Smith does with these receivers. I know he's a tight end guy as far as matchups and running the ball Which listen go back to 2019 go back to uh, you know trace sermon JK Dobbins I mean we had a really good two tight ends 12 personnel package where our tight ends were phenomenal

23:58With uh with zone blocking schemes. I mean blocking in general, but we really Executed the inside zone outside zone wide zone really well back then with our tight end play So I know he's going to want to do that, but I'm just curious What Arthur Smith is going to do with these wire receivers? Obviously JJ Smith, but again, man We're deep so it kind of gets to the to the conversation About the deepest room we've had in a while and we can get the super chats in a little bit But Nevada and everyone else listening is this the deepest wide receiver room we've had in years If you think about it Okay, last year we had JJ Smith Brandon and his who was still Carnail tape, you know, obviously a first-round receiver but Last year's depth at receiver Versus This year even with the year before that Uh, Marvin Harrison Jr. didn't come into his own not the year before that, but the uh the room before that

25:02I should say Marvin Harrison Jr. didn't come into his own into the Rose Bowl So let me rephrase this. I'm sorry. Let me make this more clear I'm not saying go look at a depth chart and say oh these guys were first-rounders I'm saying right now guys who can be plugged in and play right now like depth That you can deploy Not all will these guys In that room together You see what I'm saying like to me this room as we look at it now and I got the depth chart up I mean Jeremiah Smith Chris Henry Jr. Jacquian Gilford Uh, David Adolf who can block Shot the David Adolf he got he got more tick than the guys who transferred last year Um, not saying he's a superstar, but he he has a role Uh, well, he had a role last year and Devin McEwan Philip Bell who who they like he's just he just has to pick it through these uh, you know, through this depth Obviously, Brandon and his car

26:04I This is a who I think is going to play this year and about you tell me if you think I'm wrong Obviously, Jeremiah Smith Okay, Brandon and his Kyle Parker McEwan Uh, Brock Boyd and I forgot to mention Brock Boyd that's five Chris Henry Jr. that's six I think Gilford is going to get on the foot at some point Just for recruiting and keeping him seven Now I think I don't think all seven are going to be in the rotation But I think they're all going to see the field um So Nevada do you think I'm crazy about that and do you think um Because I think Hank then we'll we'll try to rotate at least six guys Is my thoughts Nevada. What's your thoughts on this room? Yeah, no look I mean if people look back on the room when you when we have Wilson And a la vie and Jackson Smith and jigben Marvin Harrison and you know, I'm saying but as you say those guys were all kind of at different

27:09Points in their career when they're going there and you know, so um, you know hard to look at You things in retrospect when you're looking at things prospectively. So um, no, I agree. I think that's look I wouldn't write off Philip Bell. You know that Philip Bell is going to play this year. David Adolf's going to play this year So I think we've got we've got guys that that can play um You know, but I think this first six you mentioned or certainly the the primary six um But at a core level when you talk about the OSU offense And this is true at every level of football and it doesn't matter if it's pee we football junior high at high school college Pro whatever it is What you're trying to do is you're trying to throw When the other team expects you to run and you're supposed to try to run when the other team expects you to throw and you Arthur Smith you know the basis of the Arthur Smith offense is pound them with the run force them to respect your running game so much that they're bringing up the defense of backs

28:11They're bringing up the safety's and then hit them over the top of the play actually and that is that the core attack and so It's all about that unpredictability And that's where you know your point about sequencing and being able to outthink The other defensive coordinator That's for having a guy like heart. I'm just put it. It's such a disadvantage because he was a first-time play All right, you know, I'm saying um It'd be like trying to play a video game. They're trying to play whatever video game And you've never really played the video game before and you're trying to outsmit somebody who's a uh, you know 20-year veteran of the game, you know, I'm saying and you're like why why is this guy always ahead of me Why is this guy once it always does what I'm doing? You know, I'm saying That's that's the way it is with first-time offensive play car So I just you know, I think everything on the off and I'm not saying all that he's gonna wave a wind and everything's going to be better But do I like having a veteran offensive line? Yes Do I like having a quarterback in his second year who's really really, you know The most accurate quarterback in the history concept was freshman. Yeah, I like that

29:13Do I like having arguably the deepest offensive? Why was he a room we've ever had with the best wide receiver? That's ever set foot on the campus at Ohio State. Yeah, I like that a lot Um, and then you can say what you want about the running back. You can say what you want about the time But you know returning a thousand yard running back on top of all that and then I've got a play call like Arthur Smith and a head coach like Ryan Day Yeah, so excuse me for being super optimistic about the offense Yeah, that's that's why I'm at and that's that's just those are just facts You know, no, that's a pinion. No, that's hyperbole. No, that's you know, hope yum or wishing That's just that's what it is and that's where we are returning a hundred starts on the offensive line So we should be better You were returning our quarterback from who was a freshman much and never took a snap. He should be better JJ Smith is going to be better than he was last year You know, I mean, so I think that I think there's a lot to like other I think there's a lot of reasons for opting all the way around the board Yeah, definitely is man

30:15It's a shame we have to keep pounding that Because people just hear stuff and they oh, you're you know sunshine pumping like huh Julian saying was invited to New York last year As we said yesterday he was a couple of plays Away from winning the Heisman plays that maybe weren't even on him Well, somewhere. I'm saying like like for example on defense Go and if we keep the field goal It's now tied up. It's a tie game and who the heck knows who's gonna win that game. It's a coin flip So a 28-yard field goal. What's the percentage of making a 20 yards? They're about 96% 98% you know, I'm saying like and you gave his stats last night. He outperformed Mendoza Yeah, in that game his stats were better than Mendoza's and Mendoza was like they don't Once they won that game. Oh, it wasn't even a question who was going to win the Heisman of orange and banana Mendoza Yeah, which is crazy Because of one play because we because we couldn't you know execute a 98% certain

31:18field goal So yeah, I'm with you man You got to get went went to the Heisman is a freshman eligible quarterback last year He's gonna be a dog this year man mark that down you that's the safest bet that all over make and I and I'm a betting man Yeah, I mean listen we just don't When we say stuff like this We're not just speaking from an emotional fanboy standpoint. We're always going to provide facts and logic always Like how can you come away? Yes, let's be disappointed. We lost to Andy and Miami close games tough We we think we think we think we're the better team. We should have won. I agree But this notion that Julian saying oh, let's see if Tavion can get some snaps and and I love Tavion saying clear He's the future he's gonna be a dog But it's just the silliness like You're just go go back and watch the games I'm saying not only was it not just a field goal, but You know on defensively make a stop here are there. It's a team effort. We came up short. Julian had his you know

32:23He the fourth down he slipped You listen as a team loss But Julian saying is going to be an absolute dog this year He was an absolute dog last year in the context of a freshman chewing the context of anybody for what he did So We have a lot of reasons to be excited Specifically about this offense is what we're talking about definitely agree. I mean, I like the kid a lot I think he's he's a really interesting prospect again. I love interior lineman From Ohio. I know how high Ohio state had him ranked on the board Which is really really high like as high as anybody. So um You know, I I think when he's all said and done, I think it'll be a five star. I'm sometimes I he's that good So um we'll have to monitor his his rankings as it goes through with the rankings Which I know it's not everything, but I'm talking to that kids can end up higher ranked He is and he's pretty highly regarded already Yeah, man.
