And there was some good interviews today in the whack from the defense. We're going to talk about that as well. I just keep getting excited. He's player interviews popping off here and from map at Trisha, Arthur Smith, pro day going on just starting to get the vibe that, you know, we're getting closer and closer to some college football. And I mean, I like college basketball and all, but it just, you know, I played basketball. I love playing the sport, but watching college football is just my number one, man. It's just is. And I'm excited about that. But other than that, man, living life, cruising along here on the show, blessed to be here every single day, every single moment that we can. Talks and buck off football. Absolutely, man. I'm the same way. Hooper, but I also played football, you know, growing up both of them. And it's just a special place in my heart for college football as much as

2:04I love basketball. And so, yeah, and it's spring. So, and this spring is going to go like this. And then we're going to be in the off season. And it's just going to be recruiting and summer workout stuff, you know what I mean? So, let's appreciate what we got right now. And of course, you know, you mentioned basketball, the tournament is back on the night. So, I was like, damn, I forgot. Because in my mind, I was thinking our resident Bama fan here, Roll Tide. You know, I'm rooting for his tie to beat Michigan tomorrow. And I was thinking Friday. I just, I wasn't thinking about tonight. But either way, it is all good, man. Let's get right into it. And so, let's talk about this freak first because I brought this guy up some weeks ago about watch out for him because he came in highly rated, had some bumps in the road, you know, some some focus issues, some things going on, even dinged up a little bit at one point.

3:05But now, now, if this dude continues on his trajectory, that we're about to hear. Oh boy. Oh boy, Deb, what you got, bro? Yeah, I mean, first off, we understand in spring ball, right? I've been covering, this is the third spring ball I've been covering for the Buckeyes, really the second kind of out in the open like this with everybody. But this spring does feel a little bit different from me, some of the stuff I'm hearing, especially in the trenches, the depth that we have on these sides of the ball. And I know you guys, you keep here talking about James Smith. We're going to dive into him too a little bit. He's on that list. And I know you guys are probably like, well, there can't be that many freaks. You guys talked about James, you know, Smith already talked about, you know, Jackson already talked about Zion Grady. And just like, man, at some point in time, taking Buckeye glasses off and shoot, you guys might be right. Maybe these are Buckeye glasses, but these are what these are the things that we're hearing, man. And everybody,

4:06I followed the Edrick Houston recruiting thing, man, came out as a number 33 player. The number six edge was 270 pounds in high school. And we know he switched to defensive tackle, played a little bit as a freshman. And then coming into last year, we expected big things from Edrick, then had those two penalties in the Texas game and lost his starting role. And everybody kind of lost their confidence in him, including himself, man. He lost a lot of confidence last year. But towards the end of the season, picked it up. And you saw the physical ability that he had. When you see him out there, when he's focused, those are what he's doing. There's not an offensive lineman that can stop him. He throws him around like rag dogs, um, rag dolls. But this year, man, in the weight room, you know, being told Edrick did a little bit of a side interview after all the other interviews today. And he told somebody that he weighs 305 pounds right now. Yeah, there he is. Look at with 20% body fat. And runs 21 miles per hour. Okay. So

5:16that's when when I hear 21 mile per hour as well, I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You know, the fastest and riser 23 mile an hour. J.J runs 23 mile an hour. You tell me, Edrick runs 21. All that aside, this is just exciting news that Edrick has even because he switched positions last year, you know, really got his back body was getting more acclimated to that. But this year, you can kind of see where he's really taken shape. He's really his body has, you know, accepted the position per say and at 305 pounds, even if he's running 20 miles per hour, even if he's running 19 miles per hour, that's booking it, man. And he's carrying the weight very well. And we know he has that five star, you know, athletic ability. When you, for those of us that watch, Buckeye football, you've seen him do it on the field against top competition. But you've also make silly mistakes during the top competition. So he struggled with injuries last

6:22year, last off season during the winter workouts. He struggled with injuries this year. Injury free during winter workouts in the zone now, really got close close to Matt Patricia. Matt Patricia is really kind of taking him under his wing, mentoring him as he does several other players on the roster. And things are looking up for him, man. So that excitement that we all felt last year, I know people are going to be slow to that now with Edrick, but all arrows are pointing up for Edrick Houston right now. And he is one of the most physically freakish players on this roster. I feel like since we've got these transfers and you got James Smith and you got Quay, we're saw who are also physical freaks. We're not talking about the physical freaks that we already have on the roster. Edrick is one of those guys, 305 pounds to embody fat. The dudes of beast, let's see if he can mentally pull this thing together. But right now, the signs are pointing upwards for Edrick. Yeah, remember y'all, he was a five star defensive end. He came in as an end and edge guy and

7:25moved down. They bumped him down to the three tech. And he's not like he's, he made some plays last year. He didn't, I mean, he didn't like peak or nothing like that, but he's again, he was coming off of the bumpiness of the start of his career, but he still made some really good plays. And so we're just looking for him to take another leap. You mentioned James Smith. And I, I'll kind of touch on that now. And I know we're going to get to the freshman linebacker. But James Smith, first of all, me and Deb, y'all know we're the press, the press conference boys. Bro, Deb, did you enjoy that interview today with James Smith? I mean, listen, some of these kids, you know, and listen, no knock on them. They're kids. Some of them aren't that talkative, you know, very short answers, not really much to say or they may be nervous. But James Smith was very talkative, very engaging, just likable and just, you know,

8:26all that. I was like, man, let's do, I like this dude. You know what I'm saying? He got that, that, that, that, uh, Bama swag, you know, because he's from Alabama. And he has some really good things to say. We can get into that as well. But I'm bringing him up because Edrick Euston is another good, like very colorful personality. I can't recall having to, to a interior alignment like this, um, with such colorful personalities. Usually it's the receivers or the quarterback, but you know, two big guys like this who can light up a room and a field because them two boys together is going to be crazy, um, especially I would say even on third down because with James Smith slimming down and then Edrick Euston with his speed to overpower guards, like on third down, rush in the passer. I think they're going to be in that package. And, and so I'm excited about these boys on and off the field. Yeah, man, we went from Tyler Williams and Ty Hamilton who weren't the most talkative people to came back. Edrick Euston and now James Smith and they're all,

9:32but yeah, that interview was awesome. And we will talk about that now. I mean, if you want, you brought him up. So yeah, in that interview, he also said several things, man. He kind of talked about what the big tennis becoming man talked about the difference between Alabama and Ohio State. He said the speed's a little bit different here. The intentionality is a little bit different. Everything is done with the purpose here at Ohio State. And he really talked about that family environment as well about, you know, how it kind of helped bring people together that there were so many new faces. You know, you kind of worry as Buckeye fans, there's so many new faces. Will you keep the culture strong? Well, the other side of that is there's 50 new faces. So nobody knows anybody. So they all have to come together. You know what I'm saying? There's no clicks happen. Nobody knows anybody. So they all have to come together. And it seems like James is probably a leader in one of those groups. And he got chosen to do an interview for a reason. You also said something, we have that conversation about, you know, where James Smith is going to play. Funky thinks he's

10:35going to play defensive end. I don't think he's going to. It's a shot at Funky. Shout out Funky. Man, how to take a shot at your man. Yeah, he corrected himself. But that was that was funny. I got on like, I thought he was a three tag, but okay, we're going to go ahead. I got to tell the chat real fast guys. I was watching that show last night. And I heard Funky say James Smith defensive end, but I had to go do something. So I paused on that. So for the next hour, my mind was racing. I was like, dude, why did Funky say that, man? James Smith's defensive end. My mind was racing. And then later I hit play again on it. Then he corrected himself. So Funky got me for about an hour yesterday with that one. But yeah, I'm either way he talked about that. He talked about how he's mainly playing three tech right now, but he's diving more into nose guard right now as well. So coming straight out of the player's mouth, that's the answer to the question. There's no more guessing there. It's early spring. They don't really put that they

11:37Matty P said they don't put people in positions during the spring, but they're trying to get him some more reps at the nose guard position, nose tackle position to pick that up a little bit. So I found that interesting. But yeah, the stuff he said about the big 10 and SEC and Alabama versus Ohio State, that's getting clipped. That's getting clipped. It's going to be all over Twitter, which is not not a real world. But anyway, it's going to be all over Twitter talking about that. The other cool thing, BMO, as I heard him say, was that when they first started talking about him transferring to Ohio State, he said that LJ didn't believe him at first because he's so down in the South and whatnot and just hanging out down there. He said, hey, did you really want to come here? And he said he's falling in love with it. Love the personality. And you can just tell when he's talking. You can tell the type of fire that he brings to this defensive lineman.

12:38You can tell just by the interview, at least I can. I've felt it. You know, you could see it, looking at moving his hands everywhere, all that stuff. So yeah, I'm excited about James Smith. Yeah, me too, because we had heard quotes about what he has said. And you know, like I'm not going smiling until we win. You know, we heard that before we actually heard him speak. So this interview, and I'm going to play this clip so y'all can get a little little feel of this young man's personality. And then we're going to go and talk about some points because this only talks about his question about the difference between Alabama and Ohio State. He weighs in on that. But there's a few other things outside of what Devon already mentioned that he said. I was like, man, like, just dude has given us some good information. He's doing it in an engaging way. I'm like, man, let's do this media ready. You know, I'm saying he's going to be up there with Booker McFarland in 15, 20 years. You know, doing media. So let me play the audio for this. Let me go back and unmute. You're like, you know, working hard in this day. Here's the sandals. Like,

13:41it's like the intensity is like, you know, it's almost like everything's so much faster. I play the big team. Let's see what they ain't going to show it here. It's like more fast and speed. You know, really weigh in the point down. I was like, my brothers were like, I'm sorry, I was there. This was like, he, I, he going to say like, you know, you know, I didn't want you to, he, he, I was just like, you know, he wasn't going to go for it better. I kind of say like, you kind of gave me like, it's just like from back like when I visit as a freshman and saving, like kind of feel like that. Because here, they ain't got a lot of camera. They didn't lie to me after one time. Nothing they told me because Larry Jones told me, it's going to be hard. You know, I was like, it was it. Like I said, it plays an intensity. Yeah. I don't know. I just, wow. Yeah. I mean, he said an intensity. It's just like everything's so intentional night. Yeah. Everybody's already out. You know, it came with new codes. It was, it was still trying to learn and stuff. You're like, here's our stable. All right. So actually, I didn't realize this was a medley of his comments. I thought it was just about the intensity question, but he actually

14:42touched on all the stuff in my notes. I don't know if you all heard that he, you know, he got a deep voice, you know, he's not like yelling, but dead. Like you said, bro, like the clip of him talking about, you know, big ten SEC B's like, man, it's like, it's faster here. Like, I'm compared to Bama. And he was talking about the intensity is was a greater here compared to Bama. And he didn't knock Bama. Like he gave respect in our old tie guy. Listen, we love you. He didn't he didn't dump on Bama. He started out to interview saying a respect. He even defended the board and said, hey, he was doing his job behind the scenes. He's just given his honest opinion. And so, and then you heard him talk about how how coming to a house, they reminded him of his freshman year when he first, you know, encountered Sabin and his program. And I thought that was funny because having we've been saying, Ryan Day has been taking the Sabin blueprint from coaching hires to, you know, just basically, hey, we're going to be a machine. And so, and then what was the other

15:44thing he said that stuck out, he mentioned Caleb Downs, you know, was really recruiting him to come here. And I just, you said, what? The not lying a high. Oh, yes, yes. Thank you. That's the other thing. He basically, he emphasized how I say didn't lie to me. He talked about LJ, what he said and how it, you know, was true. And then Ryan Day talked about, hey, if you want to just come here, just to go to the NFL and be a first rounder, then this ain't the place for you. You need basically, and I'm paraphrasing, he said, Ryan Day said, you need to embrace, you know, the program as a family because we're family oriented and embrace the program, basically, and understand as a brotherhood, etc. And then of course, yes, the going to the NFL, we're going to help you do that. But yeah, I mean, he was, he seemed to be very impressed with that when Ryan Day gave him that answer. I don't know, could you tow that? 100% man. And I am, these things are things that we keep learning about Ohio State. You always

16:45hear, develop, develop tier, the brotherhood, the family. And, you know, like I said, before I started getting to know some of these players talking to him, talking to the family, there's a part in my mind that say, man, that's just a sales pitch. It's not, man, like for those of you that listen to the interviews, I do, you know, on here with some of the current players and the family, and then him talking about how their Ohio State coaches just so upfront with everybody, like there's no BS at all. There's no telling them what they want to hear to get them in the door. I mean, LJ told him, hey, if you're coming here to be a first round pick and that's your number one objective, you're coming to the wrong place. Like that's got to be a hard thing for a coach to say, man. Yeah, for sure. And I'd say it for sure. And they put family first. They put that value first before anything. And in Matt Patricia's interview, he brought that up as well as one of the reasons he stayed here. You know, I mean, I'm sure the $1.75 million raise helped as well, but we also brought up the family atmosphere, the stability at Ohio State. And in today's college

17:50football guys, that's just we need to, you know, not take that for granted because it's becoming rare, rare and rare to find these type of coaches and Ryan Day has got this program pumping on every level, not just winning football games, but, you know, attracting these type of people, these type of families, you know, having these, you know, players develop into men that are actually going to contribute to society in a healthy, good way. Like, I know that's not football talk, but that's real life talk. And it, it means a whole lot more than football does if we're getting real about it. So I just love what, you know, when you hear it from players like James Smith, who's a transfer, yeah, that's just reiterates even more, man. You know what I mean about, about how, how awesome this program is. Yep, definitely. So like, I love this kid already for his potential. We've been hearing stuff about how he's killing it already, but then seeing the, the interview, he's already a

18:52favorite of mine, like instantly. And so again, for those who haven't seen Andrew Houston, like, he's a clown, like in a good way, like goes around, remember, in both practice, he was going around interviewing people. He's from Atlanta. He's another southern boy. And he's just a funny dude, but he's very talented. And now he seems to be an optimal shape and just ready to go. So to me, obviously what you do on the field matters the most, we know that. But to me, you know, having that personality off the field just adds to it. And so I'm going to play a little bit of Maddie P. So y'all can hear what he says based off of what Deb would just said a minute ago. I have an extension in a state here at Ohio State. Yeah. Well, obviously just Ohio State is such a special place, not only just the history and the tradition, the football program, the school, but just the people that are here, you know, and the kids that are here in Coach Day, and you know, having a chance to kind of have a little stability with my family. And you know, it's

19:56hard when you got to move your family around your kids and go to school and all that. And you just had an unbelievable experience settling into Columbus. Everybody's been so nice and welcoming and it feels like home. So it's a big deal. It's a big deal for us to be, you know, in a place where everybody's happy. You want to throw it forward? As being here exceeded your expectation for what you thought it would be. That's probably a good question. I don't know if I like set maybe expectations or not or just kind of go in with the idea of like, hey, let's just try to do as much as we can to impact in the biggest way possible. So for me, that part of it's been amazing, you know, to go in and have a lot of joy to be around these kids and watch them work and grow and learn and certainly going through the process this year with the draft and watching everybody get ready to go and so excited for those guys of what's next and, you know, for bright futures for them and get a new group in this year and kind of try to do the same thing. You just, that's what it's all about, right? Trying to help and do whatever you can to, you know, hopefully lives better for

20:57guys. You know, all right. So listen, this dude is happy here. We could tell he was happy last year. I mean, the players love him. Even James Smith already. Remember an interview was like, hey, I'm around him. That's my guy. I mean, Matt Patricia, I know coming off that Detroit lionston and we got a lot of he for saying it was a good hire because lions fans slash skeptics thought about the lions. Obviously, that wasn't the best of his resume, but clearly he still has he knows ball and I think he has a new lease on life coming down to the best university in the country. If you're going to come down to college was just with the doctor order Columbus Ohio a great city lived through all my life. I love my city Ryan Day, who he gushes over, who he constantly talks about and not only him, but NFL guys GMs. I mean, talk about the Ohio State

22:00program, even how well the pro day is ran compared to other colleges. First class, we have an excellent program. All right. So again, Maddie P is just it's just great to see him have a big smile genuinely talk about how this is home. That's not saying he's going to be here for 10 years. He's very under demand, but he's still here for another year and I'm happy that very happy we got him another year. Yeah, I mean, that's the personality side of it that Matt Patricia gets along with these players. These players love Matt Patricia, man. They love him because, you know, James Vith also brought up the fact that it's not normal for a defensive coordinator to talk with the players that much, which was surprising for me to hear, but just shows you the type of personality Matt Patricia has. And for those people that are worried a little bit about, well, how do you replace Arville Reese and Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs and all these things, you know, Matt Patricia brought that up, man, he talked about how he bases his scheme off the personnel, right? He doesn't try to

23:05get the personnel to fit his scheme. So that means he's sitting back in the spring. He's watching these tools that he has. And I think that's why we're starting to hear more of this penny front stuff and all these different fronts that he's going to run because of why, how deep our front seven is, right? And you might not, you won't, you can't replace great players. That's what he talked about, but you can replace attributes of them, like, you know, different players can have different things, different packages can come in and replace them in that way. One of the quotes he said, I think he got from Doc Rivers or something. I think he said was, you know, good, send the way a great. That was very cool. Yeah, how do you, how do you match last year's defense? There's number one, you know, do you want to go after more, you know, more sacks, more turnovers and all those things. And Matt Trist talked about, you know, and the most important things to score on the scoreboard, let's be real here. Like, yeah, you know, yeah, that's right. But he talked about, yeah, he is going to get aggressive, but it all depends on the personnel that he sees there. So and I

24:09love that from him. You made a dive into a couple more map of Trisha notes I got here and we can go on from there. Definitely. Couple players that he brought up who also got interviewed today is Gareth's over. Gareth's over. Got an Iron Buckeye guys. And I think he's somebody, it's just, it's just hard to picture, right? And this is just being honest as a fan. We've all been talking about Riley Petty John and TJ Alfred. And we're going to talk about sincere Johnson here a minute and Christian Ali Egro rightfully. So, but don't sleep on this too. I mean, Matt Patricia talked about he's been showing out in practice. The confidence is obviously extremely high with him as well. So he's somebody you need to keep an eye on. Matt Patricia brought up the corners this year, how fiery they still are. And Jermaine Matthews talked about how much Davidson Egmanosa completely changed the room. And that fire is still in that room. Matt Patricia brought up Earl Little.

25:10And how Earl Little was just always around the ball everywhere he's at. Of course, he brought up James Smith, the explosive power. So those were some of the key points and players that Matt Patricia brought up. But yeah, I see you got the Garrett Stover thing up here, man. You know, you see how big this boy is now? Look how big he's got 34 pounds. Yeah, 234 pounds now. Yeah. Yep. Yep. So yeah, those are some of the map attrition notes. And Garrett Stover is kind of what is what tipped off this freshman linebacker star, little nugget that I'll bring up here as well. Because in the interview, you know, everybody gets asked about everybody. We'll dive into Jermaine Matthews. What he said about some freshmen. But Garrett Stover got asked about sincere Johnson. And you can just tell by the way he's responding like, yeah, dude, this dude's got six tackles and we haven't even put the pads on yet. You know what I'm saying? And that's coming

26:10from a freshman linebacker. We all know since here Johnson has the physical ability to contribute at the linebacker position. The question was, will he have that mental capacity to come in here and and do what James Doronitis requires of all his linebackers at the position? And what I was told is that the one thing, the one area that has surprised this coaching staff with sincere Johnson is that is his football instincts. Is the mental side of the game? He's a notch ahead there. So I'm not talking about sincere taking anybody's starting job here. But the number one linebacker in the nation, very crowded room. I'm very intrigued to see how this shakes out with Garrett Stover and TJ Alfred and Riley Petty-John, Cristinelli-Iguro, Peyton Pierce. And you now add sincere Johnson. Are people talking about him being the backup Mike this year fighting for that job? I think that's kind of the fight, the battle that he's most likely going to be in. But to have a freshman linebacker

27:15be in that battle in this room just goes to just goes to show you the type of football player that he is. But be just linebacker room, not just what James Doronitis has done. Does it not blow your mind like it does mine? I can't even comprehend what the lineup's going to be this year. That's just me. Yeah, yeah, bro. Listen, I'm pulling this up. This is the thumbnail for tonight's show on the left. Number 20, that is sincere Johnson. So the other thing is he already looks physically the part. Like these young boys coming in here, even like Alfred last year and Petty-John, they're even another level this year, but they came in looking pretty physically imposing. I mean, sincere, he looks like a Glenville RVL REC type of dude already. And it's funny because RVL REC came in wearing that 20 as well. But yeah, let me take that off the screen. So yeah, bro, like I said, the other day with you, because we were taught, remember, I forget who said 13 deep, somebody in the Super Jazz said 13 deep or somebody dead in the front seven. And I was like,

28:18I need to see the linebackers. It's like on paper and just what we're hearing and physically, I'm like, I'm thoroughly impressed. I just want to see it on the field. But I think what's not disputable is that James Doronitis has got this room cooking. Like, I'm very confident these boys are going to step up as they come in and do their thing. But that room was lacking for it for a little bit. And now it's starting to just stack crazy. And sincere Johnson is crazy because again, RVL REC, he did not come in as RVL REC. He came in as a, you know, he's from Glenville. We love our Glenville kids. He's aggressive. You know, he can get out to the QB. He can tackle. And he turned into a top five pick. You know what I'm saying? So it's just getting more excited for sincere knowing he has a similar pathway trajectory, even make up as far as his physique,

29:18the same school, all of that, man. So I'm very excited about this linebacker room. And any, for you question, is Riley, is he going to be backed by what the summer? Like, when is he going to be full goal? Do you know? I don't know that for sure. I can find that out. I'll find that out. The best that I can. But, um, I mean, that's a thing, man. You know, you know what it reminds me of BMOS. It reminds me of the wide receiver room. And you wonder, you know, you look at the Ohio State wide receiver room, kind of what Brian Hartline did there. And like, man, how do you get there? When you have first rounders sitting on the bench for two years, you know what I'm saying? Waiting on other first rounders. And when you dive into this linebacker conversation, we're all worried about who's going to start. It's like, if you just take that off to the side and think about the competition and the battles that are going on inside that room right now, it reminds me of the battles that went on in the wide receiver room. Like, why do we keep pumping

30:20out first rounders? Because five stars got to keep five stars off of five stars backs. Like, yeah, first rounders got to beat out first rounders. And now the linebacker rooms like that. So just because a sincere Johnson or a TJ Alfred or a Garrett Stover, if they don't start this year, that you were just at a level in this linebacker room now or that that does not mean that these dudes aren't ballers. You know what I'm saying? And you can't always say that. I mean, just how long ago was it where, you know, we, the Tommy Ikeberg, all respect to him, great linebacker here, all that stuff. But it's just a different level now, man. And then linebacker rooms. So huge shout out to I just wanted to bring that up because everybody's going to focus on who's going to be who out in this linebacker room. But what excites you more than anything is the battles that are happening right now in spring that are going to happen in the summer and in the fall for these positions, you're going to have like starting caliber five starting caliber

31:24linebackers fighting for two positions. And that's just going to make everybody just that much better in that room. Yeah, for sure. And I thought about Stover. I know he's not going to start or maybe even play a lot. But watch out for him on special teams, y'all. I mean, I can see him taking somebody's head off running down for kickoffs. I mean, that dude, because he's not slow. I'm not saying he's like, don't listen. No, get me wrong. I'm not saying he's super duper duper fast, but he's not slow. He's not a statue. And he's like, look at how big he is. He's going to hurt somebody. So I'm excited about that. But yeah, yeah, man, linebacker room, a lot of question marks, but a lot of great eye popping potential. And then, of course, the defense in general with the new additions, you know, because Patricia brought up Terry Moore and you know, are a little like you mentioned. I mean, and he implied in his comments that Terry Moore looks good. Like he looks like he's, you know, because he's come off of injury. I didn't get any indication from his comments that
