4:04Lot of college football yesterday. How are you feeling, brother? It was, man. Lot of college football yesterday. And if you watch the rest of college football yesterday, just makes me feel even better and better about these buckhies, man. It just does. I also rewatch the game today. There's some things that I hope to see get better as the season progresses. But overall, there was some improvements as well, which is exciting. So a little by little, you know. And we saw that out of this Buckeye team. So it's exciting, man. I had some exciting games yesterday. I watched a little bit of Notre Dame, Michigan State. Notre Dame struggled a little bit. Oklahoma. Barely beaten in Mexico. So congratulations, Michigan, on your wonderful win against a dominant Oklahoma team. I love it. Yeah. You know, in the Ole Miss, Ole Miss, Stompin Ellis, you, Lane Kiffin.

5:04That was pretty good. Trinidad Chamblis is a pretty darn good quarterback. But you should see all the open receivers that he missed, man. It was ridiculous. I was a great intro. Nevada, I saw your Green Bay Packers. I was thinking of you as I was looking at the score they escaped over time with a victory over the Jets, man. How you feeling? Well, not only did they get the victory, but I was under 37 and a half in the game. So they won 20 to 17, which put it under by half a point. So it was like, nice. The perfect ending. They had the ball on the 10-yard line late. And I was afraid they were going to go in for a touchdown and they ran. They feel good kicker out there. And I was just like, man, this is going to be a great weekend. And then he made it. And it was just like the best weekend ever. So, yeah, I had an opportunity to rewatch the Kent State game as well. Yeah, I was encouraged. I mean, I was encouraged by a lot of things that I saw.

6:05I think it's going to be good for us to get into conference play now. Because once you get into conference play, some of these other teams will start losing because they're not playing Kennesaw State anymore. They're not playing Indiana State. They're not playing Villanova every weekend. So I think other teams will start getting some losses. And I think people will kind of see what's the season for what it is, which is, because I was reflecting on these seasons. And I wrote it in a post that I did today. And I just want to highlight this because I really kind of brought it back for me. Because I hadn't really thought about this. If you remember the 2000, you guys are old enough to remember the 2002 season. And I might be silly. Because then you guys are young guys. Do you remember the 2002 season as vividly as I remember the 2002 season? Yes, absolutely. I don't. Okay. Do you remember how many close games we played in 2002? Oh, my lord. When I say every game, wasn't it like every game?

7:07The matter I can I can literally opponent that opponent didn't matter. It did not matter. I can partner with you on this. I vividly remember Cincinnati. Oh, my goodness. Was it at the Bingo Stadium or was it at their Cincinnati? I don't know, but the guy dropped the one in the end zone that would have beat us. And I mean, yeah, no, there's so many games. Yes. Yeah. And so at no point during that season, I'm watching the team and going, wow, this team's done. This is the best team in cop. This is the best team I've ever seen. They're a national championship team for sure, you know, but we ended up winning the national championship title that year, you know. Yeah. And then I fast forward to 2014 and I think about the Virginia Tech game and how badly we just got blown out of our stadium by a bad, that's a bad Virginia Tech team. Bad. It was. Yeah. And then we lose JT Barrett all hope. I mean, and then we go on a run and we win the national championship. You know, and then 2024, which we've gone through many many times, but losing it

8:07or again, losing it at home to one of the worst Michigan teams in my lifetime. And then we go on in the national championship. So my only point is that you don't have to look at this team right now on September 19th or something and go out of Wow, I see perfection. I see a perfect offensive line and a perfect defensive line and perfect kickers and per because we weren't ever even close to perfect in those three years, but we didn't play a complete game in 2024 until Tennessee in the playoffs. And yet we won the national championship. So don't let this thing where you're thinking you've got to have this artificial constructive that we've got to be perfect in every aspect of the game. Now it's a long long. It's not seasons never been longer than it is now. It's going to be a work in progress and these coaches have to work on things. They really do. They have to run these games almost like live scrimmages where they can do stuff and see if they work and see how the guys react and see I guess and that may affect us in short yardage.

9:11That may affect us on how we run our defense. There's going to affect us a lot of ways, but don't let it affect your enjoyment as a fan. Just because you've got this vision that we have to be perfect in, we don't need to be perfect right now. Just win in advance and stay healthy. That's my end of rant. That was my rant. Beautiful. I got to add one detail to his rant to back him up a little bit. After the Nebraska game in 2024, did anybody think we were going to win a national title? Oh, we dominated it. What are you talking about? I've been, remember we dominated blue them out that much. Oh, yeah. Do you remember feeling how lucky we got to win that game? Remember the thing that you think of? Oh my goodness. We're so lucky to be that team. That team sucks and we were so. And that was a team that now we look back on it. We go. That was the greatest team ever. It had Will Howard and the Mecha and Finch and Trey and Jack Sawyer and JT-2Volo. And it was like, and we struggled to be freaking Nebraska. Yeah. Yep. Hold on, man. I got to, I just had to jump in.

10:12Somebody please clip these two rant back to back great intro rants. Nevada, that was superb. And because I listen, I remember the two that I'm kind of in between. I'm not a young super, super young guy. But I'm also not a super, super old guy. I'm in between the 2002 season. I was very much involved. So for y'all who are new to this Buckeye train, that 2000, they caught, whether they caught on the Cardiac kids in Nevada. No, they called the, they called the, they called the luck guys. The luck guys. Yeah. We listen, it was insane. How many close games there were that, that year. And now you got me going back about that season. But anyway, the overall point is, Devon, that was a great intro and then Nevada follows up with that perspective. That was such a great point because I'm looking at people on social media in the comments and Twitter. And it's just like, guys, I, nobody's saying you can't have concerns. We all have concerns. And it's not, that's not it. It's the doom and gloom projection.

11:15Oh, we're not a national title team. Or it's going to be a long season and all those other stuff. Based off of week three, that's what we're pushing back against is that nonsense. Not that we need to get better. We know we need to get better. So anyway, that was great. But look, I really wanted, we got off rolling. So look, let's dive back into our conversation and kind of just go from there. Dev, you said you rewashed a game. So did I. I watched the, and yes, I was cracking up at Jermir Perez. And I got a clip of him dancing from a house-state clip. So you can see it fully of what he's doing. The sexy dances, they call it. It's hilarious. But yeah, let's get into our thoughts after rewatch and just kind of diving back into the Kent State with fresh eyes.

16:24it was good to hear Nevada's intro spot on. I was going to say something similar, but stick to the 2024 season alone. And how that happened and also point out the games from yesterday. We watched USC and Rutgers and Rutgers, I think put up 30 points, took them down to the wire. Rutgers team that lost to UMass and Boston College. Okay, so there's teams struggling and listen, I know we're not compared to them. We are the Ohio State, but I want to preface, right? Before I go into things I hope to see that that's exactly where it is. There's no anger here. There's no, I'm flabbergasted at something that happened in the Ken State game. I don't have extreme ears that these things are going to continue, but they're there. They're things I saw that I want corrected. I'm going to start off by shouting out a couple, right, players in this game. Number one, Riley Petty-John got defensive player of the game.

17:24Going back and watching the game, he continues his streak of just being an elite talent on the field, man. When he goes after the ball, it's like a sunny style is going after the ball, man. A lot of getting in the back field, being aggressive, making a decision, making a decision fast and attacking. That's very exciting to see as well. Jeremiah Smith of course got offensive player of the game. Don't really need to dive into him. He's elite, we know that. So all some young guys get out there, make a big impact in a big way. The number one on offense, the point out to me is Brock Boyd. Brock Boyd at the receiver position. He really stood out on that second watch when he got his opportunities in the game. And it's not just his routes and catching the ball and receiving. It's what he does off ball as well with his blocking and the energy that he brings. Another receiver to add to that list would be Philip Bell for me. When I watched the game again, I know Nevada is a big fan there.

18:24He said it reminds him of Crystal Aave. I think I'm going to get on board with that as well. Philip Bell looked good. So it was good seeing these younger guys out there. Get some of these experience in there. Jason Moore on the second watch. I really paid close attention to him man. And Boyd, I really hope this carries over to some bigger teams. He showed this type of stuff in the fourth quarter against Texas. I really hope this is that point in his career. 6 6 320. Larry Johnson has called him the perfect defensive lineman. I don't know how many times we've been excited for him. I don't know how many times he had as many tackles yesterday as he's had in his whole Ohio State career more I believe. So I'm very excited about that man. And another player I'm excited about still yet again. But this also flows into the things I hope to see corrected. Carl Wouter. Carl Wouter was the number one pass rusher on the team again.

19:28One every rep had the highest percentage. Hold on, I did have it pulled up here. Let's see. Oh, of course, I don't know. Yeah, he graded an 82 and a half on PFFP1. I watched all his reps. I didn't find one. He didn't win. So that's one of the areas there. Ryan Day explained after the game that he wasn't in there because they really have him on that third down pressure package. And there wasn't many opportunities to use him in that package in this game. They didn't bring that package out very much this game, which is true. Ken State was getting rid of the ball very fast. You know, on third down, they were running plays looking like they were in second down. That's what Ryan Day said anyway. But still, I hope moving forward that right, a little more truss gets instilled in Carl Wouter and he has included in more than just this third down pressure thing.

20:29Because when I get into the things that I hope we see moving forward, if we want to start not win a national title, I think we need to get better at getting pressure on the quarterback. And I think he's part of the answer right there. In my other little nitpicking thing that I hope to see involves the short yarded stuff. We're all aware of the fourth downs that occurred that we did not get in Kent State. But in that time of the game, you got to understand who we're playing. The circumstance Nevada brought up a good point that hey, maybe by this time they're working on things. They're treating as a scrimmage or as a practice. And I'm just, you know, I'm not sold that if we were playing a different team in those situations, there would have been a different outcome. But still, I want to see Julian saying get his legs involved a little bit more. That being said, do I want to see him utilize his legs and get tackled to beat Kent State?

21:30No, not really. But those after rewatching the game, Devon's critiques of this team and hopes that we see improvement moving forward. And I'm confident that we will getting pressure on the quarterback. This was the same theme in 2024. We spent all the regular season talking about our lack of pressure on the quarterback and all of a sudden the playoffs, what happened? Boom man, started racking the sacks up. So my eye is there. And then these short yarded situations, I just think, again, all the the the the preseason talk with Julian saying being able to utilize his legs. Hopefully they get that worked out. Hopefully Arthur Smith can have a conversation with Ryan Day. And they'd be a little bit more willing to do that. But you can't use this Kent State game as a final indicator of how much Julian saying will or will not use his legs. So I'm anxious to see those two things moving forward and see where we're at when we get on teams

22:33like Indiana and USC and Michigan and and some of those bigger teams. And to some big 10 play, I think we're going to need some of those things. So those are just my couple notes. Right coming out of that. And my last thing, the rewatch fan, you know, Nevada statement about the running backs. Yesterday just got they just got confirmed with the on the rewatch. And it's that we need these running backs to step up a little, not saying they're horrible or bad or anything. But we got to break some tackles. We got to make some guys miss more than what we're doing right now. And I'm confident that will happen later on here in the season as we move forward. Hey, man. Good good thoughts, man. Nevada is a bit a minute since you've jumped in. Want to respond to Devon's summary? Well, no, I think I saw a lot of the same things. Dev did I kind of watch the game. I like to watch the game without the sound down the second time I'm watching it.

23:33Just because I don't want to be affected by the first. I don't want to hear Gus's voice because it makes me want to just punch the TV right through. But you know, in the rewatch, you know, a lot of the same things. I won't just, you know, I don't want to repeat what Dev said, but I want to add, I'll add an addition to it. I thought Will Smith Jr. was really good. Will Smith Jr., again, a guy unsung type of guy. We talked about how the job of the defensive line is to block for the linebackers, much like the job of the offensive line is to block for the running backs. So those guys, Jason Moore, Will Smith Jr. were eating up the double teams, keeping the linebackers, Riley Petagion, other guys free so they could flow to the ball, make contact. The announcer's talked about it during the game, but that's an important thing. But both Will and Jason both ended up with the lead team tackle, both at five tackles, which is just a fantastic performance by defense line, especially Will who's got additional eligibility left behind.

24:35So it's the same thing with Jason. So those are guys that we could see come back. And I'm always looking at that. I'm always looking at, you know, where are they at on the, on the eligibility tree? Are they there? But those guys could be stalwarts for us kind of going forward. I do want to call it Philip Bell just because I, man, I just see it. I see it happening with him and they clearly trust them because they have them back on punts. You don't have somebody you don't trust back catching punts and they clearly trust them on that. So that's a thing. I'm the Julian running thing. You guys know, there's no one who's a bigger proponent of running the quarterback than I am. Nobody, nobody on the planet has said it more, talked about it more, written about it more than I know one period and having said that, you know, watching Jay Daniel go out for washing in today, maybe done for the season, watching Caleb Williams go down today, maybe done for the season. Do I want Julian saying,

25:38if Julian saying got hit and it was out for the season on a play against Kent State, I'm not sure what I'm trying to describe my emotions, you know what I'm saying, but it would be beyond horrible. You know what I'm saying? It would just, you know, I'm not saying that all hope would be lost in this, but it would be pretty close. You know, we try to keep it real on this thing. I don't want to see the loop fahey experience or the TSC experience at this point in time right now. So I'm okay with Julian. You could tell what they were doing on those plays. He was trying to go to Brockport. He was looking at him the whole, you know what I'm saying? He was trying to do some things on those plays. It didn't work out. I'm okay with that. I mean, I really am. I think people get caught up in this stuff or they look at stats at the end and they try to draw a narrative from, they try to draw something. And I think for Ohio State, you know, I think, you know, there was a post that really good post that I've been talking about comparing our rushing performance to this game

26:41to South Carolina's performance against Kent State. And the difference was the only difference in the game was Kent State. Against South Carolina, South Carolina had a 60 yard run and a 40 yard run. Our longest run was 17. And so that's the we're just not breaking those longer runs right now. And I thought I thought when the first team offensive line and I thought Gabe Encycl did a great job at right guard. I really did. I thought when the first team offensive line and I watched every rep, I thought they were opening massive holes up front like massive like pushing the guys back, getting the second level, giving the opportunity for these running backs to really really do work.

28:54I think you know but then you look at the stats and then the game go wow I thought the stats would be better. It's because in the second half when you're running favor a key. Right up 49 to nothing behind the second team offensive line into the middle line. You're not going to get great yards and that's you know what I'm saying. So I think you know people are really you know it's fun. I had a poster talking about how great Michigan's been this year with their running backs and I'm like saving on Hader is I have been three and a half yards of carry. Jordan Marshall is averaging four yards of carry. Our guys that we're picking that we're beating up right now. Bo Jackson is 5.9 yards per carry. Jacobi Jackson is seven yards of carry. So and we're not happy with that. We're not we're not satisfied. Nobody on this panel is sitting there going wow we're satisfied with the running game. But those are the numbers. Seven yards for Jacobi 5.9 yards per thing for which is not bad. It's not bad. So I think a little bit of perspective and that's playing three games including one of them on the road at Texas. So this

29:58isn't three games against kind of saw state Dillon Nova and Grandling you know I mean like one of those games was against freaking the number one team in the country on the road and still those are their numbers. So I really I believe in the offensive line. I believe in what they're doing I know they are working on stuff but they're working on stuff because they can when else are you going to work on stuff against with live bullets you know next week we started getting into the games that matter now will be a big favor against Illinois and kind of moving forward but we don't have a lot of breathers man we don't have a lot of opportunities to do it against Kent State you can try some stuff and you saw what they were doing with pulling the guards and having the guys block down and kicking the guards out and bringing them around I mean they're trying to figure out what kind of works these heavy formations because when the weather gets bad down the road there's going to come a time when you need to run heavy there's going to come a time and everything can't be five wide I know that that works in bad and then everybody wants to but there's going to come a

30:59time when we're going to need to get a yard and we're going to have that we have worked on some different things to try to do that so that's my ranch that's what I saw thing but I was in turn I I left watching the game thinking saw a lot of good things I like the way Julian was distributing the ball I like the way a lot of other guys were getting involved up there defensively I can see the depth building the defense of line Jason Moore's emergence is one of the greatest stories ever and one of the great stories of 2026 and as I harken back you know depth you're great point about the 2024 Nebraska game or so there's other games I'm like man I see this team building and getting better and I think we take another step next week against Illinois so I can't wait for conference fight to start and very excited about the rest of the season yeah yeah good good stuff man and I'm listen I'm not going to triple up on what these guys just said because I can curve with a lot of what they said I don't want to be redundant but I'm glad you brought something up Nevada two things one

1:50:16Iowa I mean here we go wish you're a final thoughts Devin uh it's still just as excited to watch this team throughout the season I still have just as much um you know confidence that we're gonna go into these playoffs and make a run um it's potentially win a national title there's a lot of young talent um on this team and you know with 51 you know new faces it's gonna take some time for cohesion to happen here and I think uh you know come December come time that this team needs to be on top that's what you want to do you want to be playing your best football then we shouldn't be and you don't want to be playing our best football right now I think we're gonna be peaking at the right moment and I think these coaches know that with all this NFL experience Ryan Day brought in I think they got the bigger picture in mind here as well and I think they're uh you know slowly making things happen the way they need to happen uh but only time will tell

1:51:16indeed Nevada Buck final thoughts yeah I I hate to steal Devin's line but it was like that was a great closing thing Deb it it is this is an NFL type season they're taking an NFL type approach and you know in the NFL you know when my packers 1-0-8 they won as a wild card you know I'm saying like you you just got to hit your stride at the end of the season and be cooking and I think this is going to be a build and again Devin's right point 51 new players we've never had this many new faces I don't know how a state team ever and so it may be a little bit longer for the the stew to come together but it's coming together and I I do see it I do see what they're doing I do see that this is a build but I really think we're gonna take another step this week and get civil annoying and I think getting big 10 plays is a good thing because it's fine it's fine we're gonna hit some of those guys yep and it's definitely another level of focus and uh and whatnot so I'm curious to see if Phillip Daniels and Zion Grady will be back I'm sure we'll get some some good
