Orla's Gift: Organ Donation Brings Hope

0:00On April 7th, 19-year-old Orla Wates, daughter of a top director at the 2,400 million-pound British building firm Wates, died. Last week from injuries in a motorbike crash in Northern Vietnam. She was on a gap year adventure, riding a pillion on the popular Hodjang Loop route when the driver lost control. She got thrown off and tragically run over by an oncoming truck, suffering severe injuries. Much to Hanoi's viaduct friendship hospital, doctors fought to save her in intensive care, but she passed away with her parents by her side. Her folks, Andy Andrietta, shared heartbreaking moments saying goodbye before making the tough call to donate her organs. That gift her liver, two kidneys, and two corneas, save five critically ill Vietnamese patients, giving them a second chance. The family found real comfort in knowing Orla's spirit lives on through those lives, especially since she loved Vietnam so much. She was set to start at Durham University soon, and her parents thanked the medical team for their care.
