Orkney's Banana Bonanza: Giveaway Saves Surplus

0:00On March 30th, a Tesco supermarket up in Orkney accidentally ordered 38,000 bananas, nearly double the island's entire population of, around 2,000 folks, high winds over the weekend blocked the fairies, so they couldn't ship the surplus back to the mainland like usual. Instead, the stores community champion put out a call on social media, and now they're handing out boxes to toddler groups, football clubs, schools, and other local spots. Even poured in quick, with organizations lining up to grab their share, and Tesco even set up deliveries to the outer aisles. This isn't Orkney's first mix-up, two years back. A shop on San de got 720 easter eggs by mistake, instead of 80, sparking A. Charity Drive. But these bananas won't last as long, so the giveaways moving fast to keep them from going to waste.
