Oregon State Hires Justin Joyner as New Basketball Coach

The 38-year-old replaces Wayne Tinkle, who partaways with the beavers after 12 seasons. Tinkle coached the team through its recent West Coast conference tournament, which wrapped up with a semi-final defeat. Joyner joins Oregon State after two seasons working under Dusty May and Michigan, where the Wolverines currently rank third nationally. He'll stick with that squad through the postseason before shifting focus to the beavers. Earlier, he assisted Randy Bennett at St. Mary's College. Athletic director Scott Barnes praised Joyner's competitive drive, recruiting skills, and focus on player growth. Michigan's May called him one of the sharpest young coaches around, highlighting his teaching and program-building talents. Joyner's wife Tracy already coaches women's soccer at the University of Oregon, giving the family a local tie. The higher comes as Oregon State prepares for a rebooted Pac-12 conference next year.
