3:50My school Great start tonight with Prince Buster there kicking off the show with one step beyond one of his originals which was then later covered by madness and also the name of madness's first song and Prince Buster in basically influenced an awful lot of the stuff that went on in two tone during the UK's Scarlet revival and I'll be telling you a little bit more about him a bit later on. He had a massive influence on two tone all three to UK and it was always looked at as being one of the pioneers of Scar so we're going to celebrate what was his life and some of the great tracks that he gave us basically over the years. We're also going to throw in a few other old tracks as well. I've got a lot of scar tracks from a couple of the two tone Trojan box sets that I have at home so I'm going to be playing a few of them so I've also got the gig guy coming up at 9 o'clock

16:14of these incredible artists that I make up and I said featuring Prince Buster tonight because a week ago today he passed well a week ago and ten years he passed away and it was a big loss for the ska community being here is regarded as the king of ska and it would be greatly missed and it is getting around to that age where people start falling away from us who are some of our heroes growing up and some of the bands and people that we absolutely love. So I said playing some of the amazing first wave of ska tonight and bringing you some of my sort of favorite tracks as well. 20:38410 from Piran Lake and it was doing out with is band ain't the drag Ness And that track there is called Samuede and he performed that in 1964. Amazing these songs. It's incredible to think that they had to do all this with equipment that they are basically a lot of the time, and build themselves, borrowed or just had to go and hang out with certain people who had the equipment to record on. So, quite amazing when you think, like nowadays we can do it on a laptop. But back in the day they had to get all this band together and actually record them. It's incredible.

21:39Always in order of great musicians. Next track, I said, I'm going to try and preserve my voice as best I can tonight. So, I won't be doing as much about the artists as normal, but I'm going to try and get through as many tracks as I can just to keep the music moving along. 34:09a game alright Desmond Decadere, we get up a diner. You're listening to me, Dave List, earlier on one step beyond here on the great community radio station 1897 FM. Hope you're enjoying the tunes tonight. Like I said, we are going back to the times when it was all about rock steady reggae and scar coming out of this, which is Maker in the late 50s, early 60s. And that's track there, classic from Desmond Decadere. And you'll probably know from Israelites,

35:09which is probably as big as hit ever. Before that, I had David Isaacs. A place in the sun was the track he sung there. And basically he was basically known for rock steady and reggae. More than he was for scar. But it did do a couple of little tracks that very much fitted into the scar. Sort of stylings. He was born in 1946 in denim in town in Kingston. It was actually a rough downtown Kingston area and produced a lot of Prince poster tracks and a lot of the other era's musicians. It was one of the first of 16 kids, which is quite amazing. And apparently there was a lot of big, big families lived in that area around about that time. A lot of kids knocking about. And if you think back as well, like how many great artists came out of Kingston in that era as well. It seems like just about every single person in Jamaica at that time was

36:13just able to make incredible music. And it still flows through today. Massive influences on a lot of the music that you're hearing nowadays, like even back to hearing drum and bass that has been played and nonstop at the moment. All originated from back in the scar world through, going through jungle and a bit of house music and all that sort of stuff. All influenced massively by the early days of scar. Such a great genre of music. I said, I'm going to jump forward a little bit now. However, you probably heard them sing in Beat Street. Which is what the nickname of Orange Street is to be. Now, there's a reason behind this. Beat Street was basically given the name. Well, Orange Street was given the name Beat Street because it's in downtown Jamaica. And it's one of the most story-adresses in music history. It's basically where Jamaican Scar, Rocksteady and Reggae all originated. And it was made very popular by people setting up studios along Beat Street and its name. It was home to say, Coxton Dodd, the legendary Studio One record.

1:43:03And also, it was the studios of Lee Scratch Perry, Prince Bosta's famous record shack. And it was the first Scar recordings were made out of Beat Street or Orange Street, as it's actually known. And just around the corner was Brentford Road, which is where Prince Bosta first started off. So, who came from there, you ask? Well, Prince Bosta, obviously, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, producers, Ruppie Edwards, and obviously Coxton. An incredible street. And to think the amount of music that went through there and was produced and made it across the world and gave us this incredible genre of music. It's just incredible. So, there you go, Orange Street. Very famous place. Next up, I'm going to play another two tracks from Prince Bosta

And the album that they first released once step beyond, which I've named this show after, was also from Prince Buster. So that's how big an influence he has on Madness alone. And basically across the board, anybody who's got anything to do with Skar, somewhere along the lines has a tie back to Prince Buster. Absolute legend. Sadly died 10 years ago. I guess not that sad, but it is for the music genre. We always miss our stars. Because you just think, like, what a great person. Good would it have been to catch up with him in other chat and just find out some of the great things that went on when he was growing up back there in Jamaica. So I'm basically at the end of my show. I've all, but made it through. I think I had a couple of coughing fits which I had to get away from.

And the only way you can describe it is it was one of Dub Regais' most gleefully weird album concepts. So if you want to find out about it, check them out.
