Olivia Dean's Mobo Awards Sweep, Celebrating Black Excellence

0:00On March 26, Olivia Dean stole the show at the Mobile Awards, held in Manchester for the first time by winning three major prizes. Her soulful second album, The Art of Loving, took album of the year, beating out strong entries from Little Sims and Central C. She also grabbed Best Female Act and Song of the Year for her hit, Man I Need. The 27-year-old London singer has been on a roll, picking up four Brit Awards and a Grammy earlier this year. During the ceremony, she shared how proud she felt as a Black British female artist and honored influences like author Bell Hooks. Fans and artists lit up social media with praise for her wins and a standout performance of her track, a couple minutes. The event marked the mobile's 30th anniversary, celebrating Black talent across music and beyond. Other highlights included, Jim Lexacy as Best Male Act, DC-3 sweeping newcomer and Best Gospel, Ray for Video of the Year, and Central C in Hip Hop.

1:00Special honors went to Slick Rick for Lifetime Achievement and Ferrell Williams as Global Songwriter, with tribs flowing from Nile Rogers. The night wrap with wins for Ira Star and International Act, Flow in R&B Soul, and actor Steven Graham for his TV performance, Inderscoring the, Growing Reach of Black Excellence in Entertainment.
