Travel into the big house. This is going to be a very interesting matchup.

2:00Right now the game is kickoff is at noon, barring any power issues or any internet issues. Game is kickoff at noon on Fox. Right now the over under is set at 43 and a half. But outcome for this game. Vegas, friends over at Fandall. They see Oklahoma win in this one by five and a half. So this is going to be a very interesting matchup, especially with all the drama that's been going on in Ann Arbor this upcoming week. And I think that's where we should kind of start this conversation bill. When we talk about what's at stake in a matchup like this, we could talk about conference versus conference. And there's been a lot of talk about, you know, we think the SEC is better. We think the big 10 is better. And I believe that's something that you guys talked about on CFB Nation earlier in the off season. When you look at what's at stake for Michigan in this one, where do you begin? Rice Underwood. Like this is, you know, Trevor, you don't want to put. You want to say like this is the defining moment in his career because it's just false with a 19 year old kid. There will be other games. There'll be other moments, but you wonder if those other moments are at another school if he struggles here.

3:01Sure. You know, when it's getting loud about Tommy Carr. Now the obvious ties to Lloyd and CJ when he's struggling throwing the ball down the field. And it's, it's flagrant. How the lack of development. I don't know. I'm trying to square how much of it is running game, not great offensive blinding play. Well, receivers with the exception of JJ Buchanan, weren't making plays. They have had a week. His press conference yesterday was uninspiring after winning him says, you know, we, it's not infinite. Which, you know, that could be coach speak or could be kind of a let's go type thing. Michigan's good for drama. They definitely provided that over the years. You know, rather it was this game or I said on the other podcast with Bill. They have the Mount Rush more of game ending moments in that stadium. Nobody can top that pump fumble app state Colorado.

4:03The Porsche can possibly hits that G male toe, and in terms of course there's the right now, step right shredder talking about it. back into that a little bit when Brian gets in here. But for me, this is the Bryce Underwood game one way or the other. Imagine the reaction if they're down 21-0 and then the big house. Tommy Carr comes in and then from there we're off. I was there, this game kind of reminds me of a couple of years ago when they played Texas there. And Michigan was enjoying the on a moon of winning the national title. So I don't, you know, I remember walking around at the stadium afterward and it wasn't like the grave faces of, oh my gosh, we just lost the Texas.

5:05But I could see it being that kind of game. Or, you know, 18, 22 year olds being told they're terrible all week and they shouldn't have won and they should give that game back, which was never going to happen. Maybe come out rally making an interesting game against John Matier. It was a close game last year, but to me, what's at stake? It's Bryce Underwood. Yeah, I agree completely on the Bryce Underwood piece. I'm going to go a little bit big picture for what's at stake at Michigan. This is a very early, early test for Kyle Woodingham in his 10 year at Ann Arbor. He's already starting to feel the, all right, this is the pressure of being at Michigan. There's always going to be controversy with something that you do. That has been pretty constant over the last couple seasons especially with Michigan. And now you come off of this game where a lot of people are telling you that you shouldn't have won. They don't think that you won. I don't think that they won different conversation for a different day. I know that they did. They're one and only in the win column, but Western Michigan absolutely took it to him. This is going to be a very early test for Kyle

6:06Woodingham to tell his program, hey, we're going to be good. Let's get our feet back under us. We have 11 more guaranteed opportunities to go out and turn this season around. And if they're able to pull off a win, that tells us that Michigan's program is in good hands and your point about Bryce Underwood. I don't see any world where they're able to barring John Mathieu having the worst game of his life. Michigan winning this game in spite of Bryce Underwood. I don't see that being the case. So it's either that or Tommy Carr is what a portion of the Michigan fan base believes him to be in his kind of their savior. But speaking of Oklahoma Bill, I'm a ping pong this back to you. We talked yesterday and Brent Venables is kind of on his conquest of breaking this pattern of going six and seven and then 10 and three and then six and seven and then 10 and three. And the most glaring issue in those six and seven seasons is he is not good away from Norman, Oklahoma. In the years that they go six and seven, what all do you think is at stake for the sooners in this one? That's it. It's kind of the same speech that we talked about

7:08with Texas A&M is like if you're for real, near the top 10 team that they got them at 11, I would have them at 10. I think they're a top 10 team right now was impressed to a point with what they did with you Tepp last week that took care of business. Mathieu win healthy, but yeah, can they take that show on the road against a big 10 school? I was there when they did take the show on the road years ago at Ohio State with Baker Mayfield and boy would have showed that that turn out to be when he planted the flag at the end of the game. A little bit more at stake than maybe this one, but they've got players. I think that's what's at stake here. You kind of, I don't want to say it's a big game for the SEC. It's not as big as the other one we're going to talk about. This is a big one because you're taking on the other blue blood out of the big 10. You go up, you do what Texas did a couple of years ago. You go and make sure you're the better team. You take care of business. You run ball on them a little bit and make the plays around material.

8:10I could see that he made the plays on third down last time when they played. A couple big, big completion. So to your point, it's a spread eventable showing that hey, you take the show on the road, take care of business. That spread moved. Michigan was favored in the preseason. So all that development from last week moves this needle seven points the other way. So I think it does give Oklahoma the opportunity to go in there. And I think they have the best playmaker on the field in Isaiah, Sotania. Brandon pumped back last week, made some plays down the field against Michigan last year. I don't care about his NFL stock. I really don't. I just think in the college level, he's a really good player. Yeah, Brian and I talk about that all the time. I don't care how somebody's projecting to the next level. It's what are you right now in this scenario for college football? Brian, we talked about what's at stake for Michigan. Bill mentioned it's the Bryce Underwood show. It's they are not going to be able to win this game

9:10in spite of him. I talked about big picture. This is Kyle Wittingham's opportunity very early in his tenure at Michigan to be able to write the ship and turn it around after some shocker controversy coming out of the Michigan camp. What do you kind of see as it's stake for both of these teams? I actually think missions go if they're going to win, they're going to have to win in spite of Bryce Underwood. I mean, he's Brandon Wimbus without the running ability because he won't run, not the way that he should. I agree with your point, Bill. I don't think they can win without like in spite of him, but I think they're going to have to because I don't think Michigan's talent level is good enough to win it if your quarterback plays anything like he usually does. I think this is an opportunity for Kyle Wittingham to make his mark on the program. Are you capable of getting this Michigan team to kind of dig in when their backs are against the wall? And they seem to always do this over the years whenever you think Michigan's about to be done. They just have that where that come from, when, and you're like, well, okay, there you go.

10:11And, you know, I mean, we saw that in 24. I mean, what a rough season that was after the title team and you're getting ready to go get smoked by a high estate and they win and win ugly. You know, but that's what it's going to, like if he doesn't play better, it's going to take something like that. My question is, is if Bryce Underwood doesn't improve because I actually think he regressed, I think he was worse on Saturday than he was for much of last year. And then when you listen to him at press conferences, you're like, I don't think he gets it. I don't know that he realizes he's the problem at this point in time. And what does Kyle Winningham do? Because you could lose your locker room real fast if you continue to kind of do that. But do you really want to put the season on the shoulders of a true freshman and Tommy car? The answers aren't great. This is Kyle Winningham's option to say, can you take a kid like Bryce Underwood and figure him out and find out how he ticks

11:11and get him to step up in the moment? I think that's what's at stake for Michigan because if you can't, this season is going to get downhill in a hurry. He ticks like a 19 year old kid with a $12 million deal. That's the issue. You know, like you said he doesn't get it, that press conference yesterday was rough. Rough a short-curred answers. You know, you can even give the can responses a quarter back. Like, you know, we just got to work, getting around the, you know, we made, didn't make some plays, looking at the film, going through the cliche, wheel of fortune and fine. But it was almost like, you know, Devin Gardner had pointed criticism of him this way. Joel Klatt on the Joel Klatt show pointed criticism about they won a quarterback stuff that he's missing. The interception at the end of the half was really bad. So, you know, to your point, you said Brandon Winbush, I've brought it out there and it's, Joe Milton in some way. That Michigan Joe Milton Joe, but Joe waited three years, had a great debut against Minnesota.

12:16Six games later, he's playing behind Kade McNamara. He goes to Tennessee, he's fine. He's playing in the league. He's got, they're different though in that Joe was a, his arm talent is ridiculous. Like he could throw the ball, however, whatever, like the quarterback challenge, he could throw the ball to the yards. They accuracy. I think Bryce, he obviously got the ability throughout the ball, but they just can't, same thing I was saying about Arizona State, they really struggle throwing the ball down the field. If they get hammered, like 42 to seven and Tommy Carr comes in and third quarter, I can't, I'm not speculating at all. Bryce probably transferred at some point. You know what I mean? I don't see him finishing the season as a backup. No. Getting like, I don't think he'll stay on the team. Yeah, and then that craters the season where you're playing Iowa, Indiana, they'll lose the Iowa at home, Penn State, Oregon, Michigan, or Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, can't play Michigan yet.

13:17Michigan, Ado, Ohio State, where they're gonna be looking to write the wrong from 24, could get ugly. Bill, I love your Joe Milton analogy. I think that's a key, even better than the brand of Wimbledon analogy, but here's the problem. You talked about the Minnesota game. That was even his best statistical game. You know, I mean, they, he threw for 300 yards in his second game against Michigan State. He threw for 344 yards against Indiana, who was a ranked team at the time. Three touchdown passes, they lost the game, but I mean, put it, and then it just cratered. With Bryce, we haven't even gotten that. We haven't even gotten those performances. I mean, and it's rough. Look, you almost get to the point where it's kind of like, if he does quit on the team, okay, good, because now he's, he's kind of, you know, I'm not paying him. If you're not on the team anymore, I don't have to pay you whatever else I have left on my deal. You almost might want to say, hey, look, this season's kind of lost. If you're getting smoked on side of the scheme's kind of lost, maybe getting out of this deal is not the worst thing on the planet.

14:19And let's see what we got in Tommy. And if Tommy's the guy, great, we got four years of him. If he's not the guy, you find out now, and you go to the portal. With looked like somebody that, that second series Saturday, he looked like somebody was like, man, maybe should choose the golf course. That's right. This is what I'm dealing with here. But he can coach, and he's not, you know, obviously he's not a for a long time. I'm sure he's had situations like this in 20 years that you tall. But yeah, I feel like we've talked so much about Michigan that you know, it's like, yeah, John Mateer's pretty good, you know, Oklahoma's pretty good, but to Travis Point, they've got, everybody's got something to prove. I can't decide if this is what you painted Brian, where it's like, oh, they're backs are against the wall. They're gonna come out and surprise everybody. Or this brace, and I don't, but I'm not inside that locker room. So I don't know, you know, like, or they're just gonna say, you know what, they're hard to be checked out in week two though.

15:21Yeah. Yeah, I mean, but it really comes down to, do you have faith in your quarterback or not? And that's the point you nailed Bill is, we're not in the locker room, we don't know. Now, I don't think the teammates respond well to Bryce, but that's really unfair for me to make a sweeping conclusion because I don't know those players. I don't know what, you know, hey, maybe they do respond to him well. That's just kind of how they are. There's a lot you're gonna learn because if you continue down this road, you can lose a team real, real fast. And for Oklahoma guys, when you look at what's at stake for Oklahoma, to me, this is an opportunity for, you know, to have you and you talked about it yesterday when we were talking a little bit about this matchup. It has Brent Vanables turn a corner and Norman, you know, it's 10 and two or six and six, 10 and two, six and six, 10 and two, I mean, that's who we are. Can he get this program to the point where, no, this is who, it's like what we talked about, Mike Elko was last year just a nice run

16:24and they're just gonna continue to be up and down or is that the new normal in Norman? And I think a game like this could be a big statement because their recruiting right now is on fire. And if you can go on the road and win a game like this, especially if you can win it big and I'm not ready to go, hey, they're gonna blow Michigan out. I'm not ready to go there because I still think there's some good players in Michigan. But, and I don't think Michigan is gonna be who they were against Western all year because their level of focus was clearly not going into that game, what it will be going into this game. That's just human nature. I mean, the year that Notre Dame went 12 and 0 and played in the Cotton Bowl against Clemson, they also barely beat Vanderbilt and Ball State early in the year, right after beating Michigan. You know what I mean? Like, these are still young people and they're gonna be on their emotional ups and downs. I think Michigan is gonna come to play more this week than it did last week and Oklahoma's gonna have to show

17:26that they can answer that. If I'm, if I'm Brent Venables, I'm very concerned about my team watching last week's game and thinking, oh, we got this one. We beat him last year. They barely beat Western Michigan. We're gonna cruise. If they do that, they could, they could be in trouble. So I think learning a little bit about the maturity of the Socle and the football team and I think John Matier has some questions to answer because I think the three of us all are in the camp of correct me if I'm wrong. What we saw from John Matier post-hang injury is not the normal John Matier. It's more like what he looked like against Michigan and Auburn last year. Now, not a Heisman, he's gonna be at top first round but a good college quarterback. This is the kind of game where you've got to show that we're right in that because if you go in the road, you've got a veteran team, you've got a really good receiving core going against a really good secondary. This is the kind of game where John Matier has to show like, hey guys, I can do this. And Trev, you made the point in the gears were they're good. They do well in the road and the years were they're bad.

18:27They don't do well in the road. So this would be that good, a good early test for them. And I just think the other part of it is guys and builds what you and I talked about this summer. This is bragging rights, big tennis, you see more for the fan base bragging rights but games like this are things that the committee can look back on when you're going back on that final spot. Who's going to get that 11th P4 spot? We've got the number four big 10 team against the number five SEC team or vice versa. You say, well, there's a lot of things that are close but man, we watched the SEC beat up on the big 10 in the regular season or vice versa. We watched the big 10 go down to Austin and win. We watched Michigan barely beat Western but then beat Oklahoma at home. We watched Minnesota beat Mississippi State. I think those things can have an impact at the end of the year. Not just from a fans kind of bickering online about who's better or sports analyst talking about on podcasts, but there's some practical aspects to it as well and that's also something I think that's taken a game like this.

Yeah, let's get these out of the way so we can get to the main event. The, I got a Oklahoma win in 2420, correct? 2420? Maybe. That's all I say is maybe Michigan relies on a defense. It's pretty salty.

22:31I think it's gonna be such a popular pick to Oklahoma that this could be one of those that, even if it's like a late backdoor touchdown drive by Tommy Carr or Bryce Underwood 2420. I like that Michigan defense. Here's one problem. I looked, I had double like triple take this. Western Michigan ran 77 plays. Michigan ran 48. That happens on Saturday. They'll get beat by three touchdowns. Oh, sure. So, but I like Troy Bulls. I like that defense. One Oklahoma guy, one point out is Reggie Powers the third. Start watching a game. He was watching a little bit of U-Tep. He was like, I had dudes all over the place. That dude's in the right spot. He's aggressive. He's player. I could see him making a couple plays. And, you know, we're gonna see if Bryce Underwood's up to it. Sometimes, you know, you don't, I don't actively root against kids. You even if you don't agree with them or, you know, their attitude or whatever, I'm not gonna sit here and actively root against somebody to fail, it's a big one for him.

23:32You know, and it's a big one for the trajectory of his career with this program, especially it's like the worst thing in the world, guys. Tommy Carr is the backup. It's not Tommy, you know, Thompson or something like that. It's Tommy Carr and everybody knows who Tommy Carr's brother is and who his dad is and who his grandpa is. So, I'm gonna go Oklahoma 24-20, Michigan covers, but not like as the confidence contest and the other podcast, I didn't touch it for that. That's very fair. Real quick build to kind of speak to your point. Part of the reason that Western Michigan ran that many plays is because the Michigan offense went three if 10 on third down and turned it all over three times. And they forced zero turnovers. If you have anything remotely close to that stat line, this game not only will be a loss, it will be a blowout. 20 play drive, and they give up, they haven't given up a touchdown. So, I mean, there's that, but and they only scored one, maybe two touchdowns,

24:36depending on your point of view. So, I'll let you guys rip. Here's the deal. You can't go three if 10 on third down, turn loose, go three in a turnover loss and commit nine penalties if you wanna even be in this game. Forget winning it. Those are things if you do that, Trev, you're getting destroyed. And that's a lot to fix in one week. We'll see if they can do it, Trev. What say you? Well, that's what fed into my prediction. I have Oklahoma winning this game, and I have them winning it big. I have it 33-10 sooners. There are some things that you go back and watch, and you say, okay, that's week one. Like that, it's week one. They're working out the kinks. When your kinks are playing discipline football, and having a quarterback that doesn't regress, and converting third downs against Western Michigan, albeit a good G5 team. This isn't my platform to talk down Western Michigan and Lans Taylor, they came in and played a heck of a game. That's why it was such a travesty would happen at the end of that game. But I would also be remiss if I said,

25:37yeah, Western Michigan's a good team. They're basically Oklahoma. Right. And now you're playing a leveled up opponent team that I have in my college football playoff. I've been seeing this changing of the guard so far over college football. I think you guys made a great point of, sometimes when Michigan's back is against the wall and everybody's willing to count them out, they always just pick up that one win. But I think this year in college football, we're going to start seeing a change of the guard. At some point, there has to be a straw that breaks the camels back. And I think that's this year for Michigan. We've already seen it be this year for Davos Sweeney. We were talking in the precincts like, hey, I'm not willing to count Davo out yet. You know, he's one of the most experienced active coaches in the country right now. I think he's got one more 11 more games to go. Maybe he does week one sample size left a lot to be desired. And I say that very lightly, but I have Oklahoma coming in in this game and an absolutely routing Michigan. Some of it a little bit of a heart pick because I'm still a little sour about how week one ended in Western Michigan's favor. But there was nothing that I saw from Bryce Underwood in week one that makes me even think remotely

26:39that they're going to be able to compete with Oklahoma's team. Travis, if that comes true, went to part question, A, went to the bootbirds overtake the stadium. That sounds like about eight minutes left in the first quarter. Two, when's Tommy Carr coming? Well, we talked yesterday. I think Tommy Carr is going to be the starting quarterback at Michigan before October hits. If Bryce Underwood keeps up this trend, I will say this, the one piece I forgot to add about my scores, I do have Oklahoma scoring last. It's kind of like that exclamation point type. I don't see it being like 30 to nothing. And then Michigan scores garbage time when time comes. And they just coast in the second half. Okay, I guess I do see Oklahoma scoring last as the exclamation point. Very similar to like Notre Dame's game against them in 2012. You know, when Notre Dame went out to Norman, they scored last to make the final score look a little bit more like what it looked like. But the bootbirds, I probably about half time, it's going to be when they make the decision to punt on the plus side of the 50 because they have no faith in Bryce Underwood.

27:40Or run the ball on third and seventh. Yeah, it'll be in their own territory. Yeah. Texas won 31, 12 a couple years ago. Very similar. Sounds like it's going to be a very similar game. Yeah. Yep, that's how I see it playing out. So I'm in again, I could be wrong. Maybe it was just the weak one, jitters, because the other factor here too is they have a brand new coach. They have this, but you just never know, man. You just never know. Unfortunately, looks like the last third time. Unfortunately, it does right before he is getting ready to give his Michigan Oklahoma pick. And I don't believe I have his pick. I'm waiting. I don't either once again, unfortunately. Yeah. Now, if I were a betting man, which I am, I'm going to assume that Brian also has Oklahoma winning this game. I seriously doubt it's by a 23 point margin like I have it. But I'm imagining that he has Oklahoma winning this game as well.

28:41But I mean, if I'm wrong, it's because Michigan is significantly more prepared. And what happened last Saturday kind of galvanizes them more so than terrorism will fall. I'm going to say the same. He'll probably have him cover in like a light 10.30. 13 point cover. Maybe not like probably in between our two scores. But you never know there. I think, yeah, your prediction, I'm looking at the box score of the Texas game last year or two years ago. It could be very similar. I was at that game. I just remember Texas had success. Michigan come out fired up. That crowd can, if you haven't played at Michigan, like all these big 10 teams have, and Notre Dame has over the years, actually Notre Dame hasn't played there forever, unfortunately. It can be a little bit of an experience getting used to the, I mean, even the depth perception of that place. It's sure. But maybe Michigan gets couple stops early, keeps them going. I just don't know that they can sustain offensive drives against the Oklahoma defense. And if the turnovers happen, and they
