Ohio Stadium Funding Halted by Court Ruling

A court in Ohio has put a temporary hold on the state's plan to use unclaimed funds for building a new dome stadium for the Cleveland Browns. On Monday, a Franklin County magistrate issued a preliminary injunction, saying the challengers have a strong chance of winning their lawsuit. The class action suit was filed by former Ohio Attorney General, Mark Dan, an ex-state representative Jeffrey Crossman. It claims the budget move violates the Constitution by taking private property without due process. Last year, Ohio's two-year budget pulled $1 billion from the unclaimed funds account. That money went into a new grant fund, with $600 million earmarked as the first grant for the Brown Stadium in suburban Brook Park. The idea sparked big debates during budget talks. Even Ohio Attorney General Dave Yoast spoke against it before dropping his governor run, though his office later called it legally solid.
