NYT Names Top Hip-Hop Songwriters

0:00On April 2, 8, the New York Times has dropped their list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters, and hip-hop is holding it down strong. With five big names, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Young Thug, Outcast, and Missy Elliott. This came out on Monday, April 27, put together by 250 music insiders and six time staffers. Hip-hop grab spots for K.Hove, Thugger, Missy, Plus Big Boy, and Andre, 3,000 from Outcast, standing tall among folks like Babyface. Mariah Carey, and Taylor Swift, Jay-Z and Missy are already locked in the songwriter's Hall of Fame, Hobb as the first rapper back in 2017, Missy in 2019. They share that elite space with just a handful of other hip-hop acts like Snoop, Germaine Dupree, and Timberland. Outcast, Jay-Z, and Missy also rap in the rock and roll Hall of Fame, with Andre and Big Boy getting their non last November. Kendrick and Young Thug stand out as the youngest hip-hop picks here.
