NTSB on scene of deadly plane crash

0:00Good morning everyone, I'm Kate Baldwin. It is Tuesday, September 8th. Here are your five things. Number one, the plane crash. We're getting a new look at the moments just after an Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami and Sunday. So you didn't got this video showing a member of the crew actually appearing to jump from the plane and run as the jet was on fire. Flight radar shows the Boeing 767 was still going 130 miles an hour when it reached the end of the runway. And at that speed, then crashed through fencing and concrete barriers and then hit several vehicles. Five people were killed, all of them on the ground and in the same van, five others were injured. How the two pilots onboard the plane are doing, that's still unclear. The NTSB is there and says a 32 person team will be at the scene for at least a week. They've been able to recover the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, which is now being examined. The NTSB chair, Jennifer Hammondy,

1:02she described the crash scene as utter devastation. First of all, we need to document the scene and we need to get access to the aircraft itself. We do not have that yet. Again, recovery operations are continuing. Two of Miami's four runways remain closed this morning because of all of this. Number two, the mom accuses a murder. An Illinois woman has her first court appearance today, charged with killing her two-year-old son. Prosecutors say Corey Walsh was actually texting friends last week about the Lindsey Clancy trial. Just hours before her son, Barrett, was found dead. Court documents show a neighbor found Walsh in her bathroom actively trying to harm herself with a knife and then told the neighbor that her son, young son, was in the basement. Officers who arrived on scene say Walsh admitted, to them, she killed her son because he was, quote,

2:03the devil and the antichrist. She also had an infant in the home at the time and two other children were at school. None of them were harmed. Her husband was traveling and flew home immediately upon learning this horrific news. An attorney for Corey Walsh claims that she was suffering a psychotic episode, quote, it is our hope that through a thorough presentation investigation of the facts that all of us will come to see this heartbreak for what it is. Prosecutors alleged that she made statements after her arrest about harming her other children and harming her husband upon his return home. Number three, the tariffs. As of midnight, Canada has hit back and a new round of retaliatory tariffs have set in on $20 billion worth of American goods. The targets this time, a doubling of the tariffs on US steel and aluminum to 50% to match what the Trump administration has put on Canada. Tariffs of 15 to 50% on things like paper products, construction materials, appliances, agricultural goods.

3:07This is after trade talks between the US and Canada broke down last month and we talked so much about it. And President Trump is now making a new threat over all of this to ban one of Canada's top aerospace companies from Badiay from selling in the US. Here's a quote for you. If they want our market, they must build here and stop treating America like a piggy bank. Also suggesting that he will raise auto tariffs on Canada to 50% starting January 1st. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. It opens this month and yes, there is plenty of Princess Leigh and Luke Skywalker inside so don't fret my pet. But also maybe something of a surprise. That galaxy far, far away is just 7% of everything you're actually gonna find in there, which represents a significant slice of Lucas's private collection.
