He met with the Irish Prime Minister yesterday and said he would love to see Ireland and Northern Ireland unified. But his meeting with Irish President Catherine Conley brought together two leaders with deeply different political views. NPR's Franco or Donyas reports. There was some tension involved in his meeting, Trump's meeting with the Irish President, who's been fairly critical of Trump. They actually had a nice ceremony with an Irish brigade, kind of welcoming Trump by playing the U.S. national anthem. But President Conley later put out a rather strong statement on Gaza. She said that normalization of war and genocide can never be accepted. I mean, the two leaders are really on opposite ends of the political spectrum. That's NPR's Franco or Donyas reporting.

1:00The CEO of OpenAI says his company will not have an initial public offering this year, something analysts had been anticipating. NPR's John Ruich reports the decision hinges and part on widespread concerns about AI safety after reports of the technology going rogue. OpenAI's IPO is one of the most anticipated public share offerings in years, and it's expected to be one of the biggest. But in an interview with Fortune, Sam Altman said the maker of Chachi BT is not rushing into it, given events in AI safety lately. Right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public, and we don't feel pressure on that. Pressed on the timing, Altman added this. I would say not to wait 26, yeah, I don't. We got a lot of stuff to do. The AI world has been rocked by recent reports of AI agents colluding together without people in the loop and going off script, even hacking into other companies. Now leading labs, including OpenAI, are talking about slowing the pace of development so safety measures can keep up. John Ruich, NPR News.

2:00Voters in Sweden are going to the polls today in an election that's expected to be extremely close. NPR's Esmi Nicholson reports recent polls show the gap is narrowing between left and right wing blocks. Cost of living security, immigration and gang crime are the key topics in this general election. Leader of the Social Democrats, Magdalena Andersson, has consistently led the polls and hopes to return what was Sweden's dominant political party to office after four years in opposition. Incomment, Ulf Kristuschen, the leader of the centre-right moderates, became Prime Minister four years ago after striking a deal with the far-right Sweden Democrats. He is promising cabinet jobs for them if he remains in power. The Sweden Democrats pledged to revoke permanent resident permits and stop immigration, promising to make Sweden again. 3:00A new study finds that suicide-related emergency department visits by kids aged 5 to 17 rose dramatically between 2016 and 2022. The findings published in the annals of emergency medicine also found half of those visits were in poorly-resourced hospitals, not equipped to provide appropriate care. NPR's Ritu Chatterjee reports. Researchers use data on nearly 5.4 million pediatric mental health-related visits to emergency departments across the country. Visits for suicidal thoughts and attempts rose by 74%. Dr. Audrey Brewer is a pediatrician at Luri Children's Hospital in Chicago and the main author of the study. She says nearly half of the suicide-related visits were to hospitals that are not specialized for pediatric care, like community hospitals. And so that can be really concerning, especially where these kids are coming in with more severe mental illness. And there may not be the necessary resources to really meet their needs.

4:01She says these hospitals are also seeing a significant number of kids with depression and substance use disorders. Ritu Chatterjee and NPR News. The National Average Price of Diesel has hit another record high. Triple A says it now stands at $6.20 a gallon. That's up about $0.04 since yesterday and $0.31 in a week, Diesel now costs $2.51 more than it did a year ago. The surge is raising costs for farmers, trucking companies, and businesses that ship goods across the U.S. and NPR News in Washington.
