At President Trump's Republican midterm convention, Vice President JD Vance paid tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot one year ago Thursday. Now, Charlie spoke to young men in particular. He was a young man himself and he understood where they were coming from. He understood that there was no greater calling for a young man. And he would tell people this, then falling in love, starting a family and becoming a father. The crowd in Dallas chanted Kirk's name and fell quiet for a five minute tribute video. Kirk was fatally shot while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University. 23 year old Tyler Robinson could face a death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder. He's pleaded not guilty. President Trump closed out the convention urging Republicans to vote as if he's on the ballot and repeating his offer to pay every adult citizen if Republicans retain control of the house and Senate this November.

1:02Trump administration says it will give certain people enrolled in Affordable Care Act plans $500 rebates and Piersleena Simmons stuff and reports he aims to use a pool of money as usually sent to community groups to help people choose a plan and sign up for coverage. Republicans in Congress and President Trump let COVID era subsidies expire in the Affordable Care Act marketplaces at the end of last year. On average, premium costs doubled. Even a middle income middle age person is probably paying thousands more than they were last year. Cynthia Cox is with KFF, a nonpartisan health research organization. This $500 might do something, but it is small in comparison to the amount that they're having to pay for health insurance premiums. She says it's not clear if the Trump administration has the legal authority to send these payments and points out they won't go to the millions of people who lost coverage as a result of the premium spikes. 2:02Israeli military says it's completed dismantling Hezbollah's underground tunnel infrastructure in southern Lebanon. It says more than a thousand tons of explosives were used to blow up two tunnels at the Ali attacker ridge. The details from the BBC's on-board in Atherajan. The Israeli military said the tunnels extended for more than two kilometers and contained Iranian-made rockets, anti-tank missiles and drones. The explosions were so huge that the US Geological Survey says they caused a 4.1 magnitude tremor. Images released by the Israeli army show a fireball lighting up the sky. The authorities in Beirut say since the war between Israel and Hezbollah began in March this year, more than 4,300 people have been killed. Israeli forces continue to occupy what it calls a security zone in the south of Lebanon. And you're listening to NPR News.
