0:00Live from NPR News on Child Snider. Federal investigators are looking into why an Amazon cargo jet ran off a runway at Miami International Airport. The crash happens Sunday. Five people were killed. NPR Shandalee Stuster reports on what national transportation safety board officials are saying. NTSB Chair Jennifer Hamadie said the plane landed and then left the runway. The plane first hit a van owned by a cleaning company that services airport. We learned that there were seven people inside. She said the van was torn apart. The plane also hit an SUV mangling the vehicle. But it's still an active recovery scene. The NTSB says the plane's flight recorders have been recovered and that investigators are focusing on whether the plane touched down too late to stop safely. Hurricane Lowell moving north and is set to pass just west to the Hawaiian Islands. But it has started to move eastward toward the islands of Kauai in Niihau. Lowell is a category two hurricane with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour.

1:03Hawaii Public Radio's Imran Kairos reports on preparations across the state. Kauai and Niihau, the two most westward islands, are under a hurricane and high surf warning and could see damaging winds in torrential rain. Oahu, the most populous island located east of Kauai, could feel tropical storm level impacts. Kauai started seeing heavy rainfall Monday, prompting county officials to close the main access bridge on the island's north shore. Schools and local government offices have been preemptively closed as the worst of the storm is set to hit. The state is still recovering from Hurricane Lala, which brought high winds and catastrophic flooding to the big island of Hawaii, killing at least two people. Residents of Kauai felt minimal impacts from Lala, but many residents remember Hurricane in Niiki, a category four storm that caused widespread destruction across the island 34 years ago. The comments come just weeks after President Trump cut short military exercises that had been planned between Seoul and Washington. From Manila, Jan Kamasim Brumi reports. The Philippines Defense Secretary says China could see the scaling back of military cooperation as an opportunity to become more assertive in the region. That comment comes just weeks after President Trump announced significant cuts to US South Korean joint military exercises. The drills ended several days early raising questions about the US commitment to regional partners. Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodorah however says multilateral cooperation between Manila and Washington has expanded.

Mayor Perra says an investigation will be launched as soon as possible after female employees at the Eiffel Tower were hidden during a visit by a Hindu religious delegation over the weekend.
