0:00Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. The U.S. says it has struck three Iranian oil tankers after Iran threatened U.S. Navy warships. This is the latest exchange of firepower between Iran and the U.S. after the most intense week of strikes in months. And Pierre's Karrikhan has more on our reports. According to Central Command, U.S. forces hit three Iranian crude oil carriers, one near Iran's vital production facility, Carg Island. The U.S. says Iran had launched missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships, patrolling the Strait of Hormuz. Senkham said in a statement that a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer evaded unprovoked Iranian missile attacks. Senkham says it then destroyed the oil carriers. One was in waters off a man. Iran had no immediate comment. Earlier Saturday, an Iranian state news agency said one of its tankers had been hit by U.S. forces. U.S. envoy Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner were in Moscow Saturday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It's the Trump administration's latest attempt to end Russia's war with Ukraine. Whitkoff told reporters things are going to get better. We were sitting outside just now, me, Jared and Carol, and then Yuri joined us, and we were all talking about when we retire. We'll have all these incredible stories and incredible memories, and yours will be right at the top of it all. Both Whitkoff and Kushner will be in Kiev on Sunday for talks with Ukrainian leaders. Russia and Ukraine both promised to pause aerial attacks while the peace efforts are underway. The House Committee on Veterans Affairs has subpoenaed Larry Ellison, the head of software and infrastructure company Oracle, as N.P.R. Quill Lawrence reports. Oracle's project for handling health records at the Veterans Administration is $17 billion

2:07over budgets. The VA's electronic health record or deal goes back decades, as technology changed, and the military and VA failed to find an interoperable system. The latest deal is from President Trump's first term. $10 billion was supposed to get VA a working system from Oracle by 2028. Now Oracle says it will be $27 billion and three years late. Republican Mike Boss chairs the House VA Committee. This has been the biggest boondoggle I've ever seen, and the frustration that we feel on this committee is beyond measure. Oracle declined a request to appear at a hearing this month, and Democrats slammed the Trump administration for enriching Larry Ellison, a close ally of the president. At least three soldiers were wounded and four others injured this weekend when explosives were dropped from drones into a military compound in Northeastern Columbia.

3:09Local authorities say they suspect the National Liberation Army was behind the attack. The region is a major coke-a-producing area and it connects to Venezuela. The Islamic Society of North America is hosting its annual convention this weekend in Detroit as Narges Rockmont of Member Station WDET reports. It's one of the largest annual gatherings of American Muslims. Speakers at the convention include Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdel Al-Said and the mayor of nearby Durban, a majority out of American city. Claudia Basie, speaking on behalf of Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield's office, says Detroit is the most fitting place to welcome the Muslim community. Because Detroit is always the city of people who came here to carry something larger than themselves.
