A man armed with several guns and knives ran into the Washington, Hilton Hotel, where President Trump was attending the White House Correspondent's dinner Saturday night. He fired several shots outside the ballroom where the event was taking place before he was subdued and taken into custody by Secret Service agents. One agent was shot in his vest and it was not seriously injured. Trump and others in the ballroom were unharmed. In other words, Trump said all Americans need to come together. But in light of this evening's events, I asked that all Americans recommit with their hearts and resolving our difference peacefully. We have to resolve our differences. I will say you had Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Conservatives, Liberals, and Progressives. Those words are interchangeable, perhaps, but maybe they're not. Yet everybody in that room, big crowd, record-setting crowd, there was a record-setting group of people.

1:00Several NPR reporters were attending the dinner where the shooting began. Francoord Donia says the scene inside the ballroom was chaotic just moments after the shots were heard outside the hallway. The agents are going. You start to see the cabinet members being pulled off, Secretary Rubio of the Secretary of State, Defense Secretary Pete Heigstis, obviously Scott Bassant, Treasury, Secretary. There are reports that RFK Jr. that he was limping, so a lot of confusion. There was just so much confusion in the room at that moment. It was very chaotic. It was very concerning. It was a eerie silence. People stayed on the ground for minutes, just waiting and waiting until finally people started to creep up, but the confusion lasted for a long time. 2:01Iran. That decision came after Iran's foreign minister left Pakistan earlier in the day without meeting with U.S. officials. NPR's Kat Lonsdorf reports from Beirut. U.S. special envoy Steve Whitkoff and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were supposed to travel to Islamabad. Iran's foreign minister Abbas Iraqi left Pakistan after Iranian officials made it clear that they only planned to meet with Pakistani officials, not with the U.S. Iran has dismissed Trump's unilateral extension of the U.S. Iran's ceasefire as, quote, meaningless, saying the continued U.S. blockade on Iranian ports is in violation of that agreement. The U.S. is intercepting ships coming to or from Iran, as Iran is maintaining military control of the straight-of-war moves. Outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán says he'll resign his seat in parliament

3:06after his party lost badly in elections earlier this month. His Terry Schultz reports Orbán says he'll work on rebuilding his political base after the landslide loss. In the newly elected Hungarian parliament convenes May 9th, it will be the first time since 1990 that Viktor Orbán does not take a seat. I am not now needed in parliament, Orbán said in a social media post, but in the reorganization of the patriotic movement. In a vote held two weeks ago, his fetish party dropped from 135 seats to 52. Challenger Peter Magyar, the likely next Prime Minister, won more than two-thirds of seats with his new center-right teaser party. He vows to attack corruption, adhere to the rule of law, and bring Hungary back to a good relationship with the European Union. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz and Brussels. Former Idaho Governor and US Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorn has died in a written statement as family said he died Friday night in Boise. He was 74 years old.

4:07No cause was given, but he'd been diagnosed with colon cancer last year. As Interior Secretary, he was responsible for the polar bear being listed as a threat in species in 2008. Officials in Chicago say one police officer is dead and another one injured after a shooting at a hospital on Saturday. Police say a suspect has been arrested in a social media post. The hospital said someone already in custody was brought to the hospital and passed a scan before entering, but it later fired shots at police. The investigation is continuing.
