I be nation welcome back to another edition of the Irish Breakdown podcast brought to our friends at Fandall. It is Friday September 11th and it is the 25 year anniversary of the event that is known as 9-11. And before we begin a what's going to be a fun great show today I do think it's important that we do remember what today is. One of the themes of that day was never forget and never forget isn't just about forgetting that the day happened just like I wasn't alive on December 7th 1941 and we don't forget that it happened but forgetting the impact of what it meant. And I know for me that's a day that still very much is very fresh and raw and my psyche I noticed for a lot of others and so what I hope that we can do today as we remember 9-11 is remember that while

the world has moved on from that day some ways for the better some ways not for the better. That day changed lives that can in a way that can never be undone. We can heal from the emotional scars of what that day meant for us but they're young men and women and older men and women who who lost their lives that day which means there are husbands and wives and grandparents and brothers and sisters and children who lost their loved ones and we'll never get them home and that never that never goes away for them. And so I pray that we remember that. I pray that we remember the stories of heroism a day that was meant for evil showed the worst of humanity but also the best of humanity. The people that number one the first responders who as the world is crumbling around them they ran too dangerous they ran to the building they ran

up the stairs knowing what they were risking and sacrificed their lives to help people they didn't know. The people in the buildings who went back in and back in and back in to rescue people some made it out others didn't and a time where we'd all like to think we would be one of the heroes we don't know because we've never been in that situation but there were people that day who lost their lives not because they couldn't get out they chose not to get out because they felt a duty to their fellow man. Those are the things that I hope we never forget and I pray that we never lose as a human as a race as a species that we never lose that humanity where I'm willing to put my life on the line to help others because it's simply the right thing to do and we learned that from that day just as much as we learned about the evil and the hatred that resulted in those twin towers being attacked and also the Pentagon being attacked and a fourth plane it was taken down

that we don't forget that from that evil we also saw the best of ourselves as well the best of what God put in us as well and that's what I pray we never forget we focus a lot on the fact that it was a terrorist attack and it was in an evil ideology that still exists to this day and it does but through that we also saw what makes us created in God's image and I pray that that's what we never forget that's what we never lose trev that nothing no matter what it be whether it's a terrorist attack a political ideology whatever the case may be that we never lose that part of who we are that when it comes down to it I'm going to do what I need to do to help the man next to me the woman next to me the the person there I could get myself out but I need to step up and help that person and that's that's what I'll never forget from that day and you look at I've been to the memorial in New York City I went there and

I'm trying to remember what year it was my wife and I were in town and you see the names and you it reminds you of like this wasn't just something that we saw on TV this is something very real that impacted people's lives and showed as I said the worst if humanity but also the best if humanity on that day and I pray that the best parts of it are what continue to come shine through and that's why I love the fact that ESPN still makes a big deal about the Sewell's Crowder thing that Boston College player who literally lost his life because he kept going back to help people read a story today of a guy that was leaving and he was on the 81st floor in the second plane it hit a one of the floors above which trapped everybody above him and he heard somebody crying for help and instead of just keep on going to get himself out he stopped and we'll help that person and set fortunately that day that that group they both got out but one life two lives were saved instead of one but there were a lot of people who weren't as

fortunate and I know and I pray that as much as it may hurt to not have their family members that the family members do know how much a nation appreciates the courage and sacrifice that their loved ones made and I pray that we never forget that and I was strab I was I've shared this before I was my first year coaching college football I mean you were four my first year coaching college football and I remember my wife or my mom that was married my mom calling me and saying hey you know like a plane hit the towers and I I can't I think I believe that we were talking when the second one hit but it's been 25 years it might have been she had just called when the second one hit and I remember hustling home and and from the office because I was cutting up film and getting home as I watched the the the the the tower the first tower fall now I don't remember if it was falling live as I was saying the second one I saw fall live I don't remember if the first I saw live if they were showing a replay of it but I remember that's what was on my television when

I walked into my apartment and it's one of those things where you just see it and you know that people are dying as I'm watching this and you also know like our life our world is never going to be the same and it's weird to think about like the world that I grew up in is so much different than the one you grew up in a lot because of that day and it's just something that's like this is what it must have been like to be an adult on December 7th 1941 you know when Pearl Harbor was attacked and so I just prayed I always like to say something about that and wanted I just really felt compelled to say something that is since it is the 25 year anniversary which also happens during the year of our 250th anniversary as a nation and just felt it needed to be said and I just felt like saying it and since it's my show I can I can I can do that so I appreciate y'all indulging me very very much on that and Wade Garrett says what are your memories from 9-11 where we at the time this can go to the entire chat as well I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on that but as I said I was I was in my office cutting up film and I'll remember Trav that day we

ended up having to play that weekend the team we were going to play wouldn't cancel the game and we're out at practice that day and and I was at Whitonburg University and our kids were Trav they didn't want to be out there like the last thing they wanted to do was be playing football I mean just it was just such a like football is so irrelevant right now and we were having a terrible practice and we were near right Pat right Pat Air Air Force Base and one of the planes that it's like it looked like Air Force one you know obviously all planes have been grounded and it's fine over I don't know if it was like the doomsday plane the second I just it looked like Air Force one but it wasn't Air Force one and it was being escorted by fighter jets and our players stopped and looked at it and I remember I had coached my still I still get choked up thinking about it today because like none of us wanted to be out there and our head coach Joe Finch and brought the team together and I don't remember exactly what he said but it was a very patriotic we're going bounce back we're going to be okay because we're because who we are and a very spirited practice after that but

I'll never forget that just seeing that plane fly over and seeing the American you know the fighter jets escorting the plane and just remember like you know we're we're we're we'll fly back that's why I literally will tear up now when I hear you know Toby King Toby Keith's Cursey the Red Wai'am Blue Saw you know I'll still tear up when I hear that song but you also feel very patriotic on that song as well but yeah I'll never forget where I was that day yeah yeah man I think that's very well said very well said like you said I was four but it was my first time understanding because like you get it when you're a kid you're four years old like the only thing that matters was like your toys and hanging out watching TV and stuff it was my first opportunity to understand that you know world's bigger than your bubble type of deal and then growing up with it being so fresh and so raw was very very unique yeah very unique yeah where that I was the age that I was when it happened and then my youngest sister grew up

learning about it as a historical event right because she wasn't yeah she wasn't alive then and that's very weird for me to to think about like it's hard for me to like my nieces and nephews I have a niece a nephew Zachary and three nieces Layla Alley and Emma and Zachary was born in 2000 and I think seven 2008 actually I'd be 2009 and it's like wow this is like almost a decade after that happened like they have no understanding whatsoever of that from an experiential standpoint and it's very weird to think about it's hard to or it's hard to process like it's something that I can't talk to you about meaning like man let's talk about how we felt that day it's like you know to mean like it's it's it's funny how the different generations are and I pray that the younger generation takes from that day kind of like the lessons we took from Pearl Harbor you know you didn't have to live through that to know what that day meant and and honor it and but yeah it's

it's a very strange it's a very strange phenomenon when you when you think about it you know it's not bad it's not that it's bad that you can't experience it's you you were four it's not like an insult it's just it's hard to um to think about Harold you stay she says thank you for all for highlighting this I joined the military because of 9-11 never forget now as you said to you before brother we really appreciate your service we very much because I was old enough to join if I wanted to join but so I didn't have the courage to do that and there were a lot that did and I appreciate them very very much yeah every game day you show up for your team now it's your time we go we go we go ask your prescriber about we govi some maglatide injection 2.4 milligrams a GOP1 call 183-3-4 we govi or visit we govi.com to view the medication guide and to learn more

another one's appreciate your service I was in marine core mess off for breakfast thinking I was watching a remembrance of the bombing of the towers in the 90s while waiting to leave for 29 palms for training prior to six month float yeah because there was a terrorist attack in 1993-1992 but it wasn't nothing it was like they blew up a car truck in the basement of the twin towers well here's a here's a crazy thing Trev John Banckeau sharing his story as well but we went to New York City for as part of our senior trip we went up to Toronto and we went down in New York City and cost maybe 10 plus years after 9.11 my mom had found a role of film in a desk drawer that she got developed and one of the pictures was a picture I took from our time there of me standing at the bottom of the twin towers and there's a picture I took of like you know because we went into the building it it was like wow like man that's just such an airy feeling you know like I have a picture there's probably people inside that building when I took that

picture that lost their lives four years later less than four years later or actually have four years later so yeah but we won't spend the whole show on it but I just felt it was important for us to to talk about it and like like with Harold you know one of our our little members like that changes world forever he joined the military because of it you know what I mean and he fought on our behalf because of it so we appreciate y'all very very much we always appreciate y'all but it's a day like today certainly it's it's always a somber day for me a little bit and it's 25 years later I still I still um yeah still think about it so yeah Robert Hammett thank you man I was on alert patrol on a submarine ready to defend our nation we appreciate you brother and Raymond Hartons the reason I joined the army so crazy respect for all of y'all that did that very much so

with that being said Trevor is time to talk about some notary any football because we have a big game for Notre Dame tomorrow because it's the first home game for Notre Dame tomorrow and that's what makes it big and it's a chance for us to go out there and take one more step towards being that team that uh we are looking for so I'm gonna find a question some of the early questions are not based on Notre Dame so let's I want to get things started off with a Notre Dame question and we do have a super chat down here that I'll get two second but I wanted to at least get to one Notre Dame related question before we dive into um we dive into uh some of the non-notary because today you can ask anything Notre Dame football related anything recruiting related anything college football related and K-Slee will take some non football questions that people might have and so we'll take those as well but let's kick things off Trevor with a Notre Dame question from our guy Salty would you be surprised if Cooper Flanagan emerges as a top target in the red zone hauling in double digit receiving touchdowns the the first part wouldn't surprise me a ton the second part

would surprise me quite a bit I don't know about double digits number one because as we saw on Sunday night at K-Slee like maybe the tight end position does that Trevor but some of those are going to go to James Flanagan as well yep and not just Cooper but he wouldn't shock me if Cooper Flanagan becomes a more of a prominent red zone threat and here's the thing with how well the tight ends blocked in the first game that's going to set up some opportunities to use some play action looks that might be more effective in the future kind of like what we saw with Eli Raird and touchdown catch which I think is hilarious that Eli Raird and went 12 games as a starter for Notre Dame got tackled inside the five yard line like six or seven times it feels like and um then he gets to the NFL and like I think at the first quarter of his first game catches his first career pass and it's a touchdown I just thought that was hilarious uh that that was the case but yeah I think we could see the tight ends be more impactful in the red zone this year but partly because

they're way better they're really good blockers and I think that sets up some better play action opportunities for Notre Dame yeah I agree yeah there's a very realistic world where he becomes a top target but double digit receiving touchdowns Michael Merritt didn't even do that and he was arguably the best tie-down I've seen come through Notre Dame in my lifetime from a production standpoint and from an impact standpoint so no that would surprise me but being a top target would not at all yeah it's the number it's the only really so surprised there superchat from Brandon Plenzner appreciate you man quick picks we'll go rapid fire here Missouri plus five and a half versus Kansas I like Kansas and now listen I just want to say this here I love answering these questions they're fun questions I do not at in any way shape former fashion encourage people to use my predictions or my thoughts to go then spend their own money that's your choice to make um I just think they're fun to do I just don't want anybody coming back and be like well I'll listen to what you said and that didn't happen and and I lost a hundred dollars well that's a

you problem you know what I mean because I'm just giving you my opinion but I just want to make sure that that's clear and then I give myself that protection here draft but five and a half so I think it's Kansas is minus five and a half I actually like or Mizzou's minus five and a half I actually like Kansas in the game maybe even outright but yeah yeah and so that was my upset alert pick I do now again part of it's we don't know what either of those teams are yep they both played a nobody in the opener I think Kansas played Long Island and and uh Missouri played Arkansas Pine Bluff I have no idea what either team is but this is a great game last year Kansas Missouri pulled away late after a late Kansas turnover I like the J Hawks in this game I do like that one Arizona state to cover plus 14 and a half versus Texas A&M on the road we all we all meet you and Bill yesterday all had Texas A&M winning but not covering and so I'm not gonna change since then to make me uh think otherwise I already have a Fandall bet slip in for Arizona state to cover 14 and a half

so that is one that I'm taking I'm curious about this one Trev I want to get your thoughts on this one cows plus three and a half against Sarah on the road against Syracuse what are your thoughts on that one for me personally I never I mean that means that they just lose by a fuel goal or less I mean if I'm doing a plus three and a half to cover I darn near just bet money line for the underdog at that point especially without college football gets structured sometimes so yeah I'm I would stay away from that one but that that's just me because just it you have to be kind of a wonky score to lose by like two it's you know what I mean or like fuel goal potentially but I just with cow traveling across the country in Geron Sacapalate like kind of banged up a little bit I stay away from that one yeah I I like Syracuse to win that game I do um but again like with we know a lot more about cow right now warts and all then we do Syracuse so like right now it's like one of cow lost by 21 and Syracuse won by 60 well yeah cow played a good UCLA team and Syracuse played

new Hampshire but I I do like Syracuse in this game what I loved about what I saw the little I watched to that game Trev I liked that Syracuse was legitimately trying to establish its run game in that in that match up they are a big ol' line and they were saying hey we're going we're going to run the ball you know we're and I think that's great for Steve because it'll be a lot easier for him to stay healthy and for them to win if they can be a more physical football team uh and just how it's like what we've begged from I don't yeah look with the offensive run I don't need you to be a 220 yard per game team on the ground I just need you to have a competent run game that takes some of the pressure off your past game and for at least one game we saw that from from Syracuse now will they be able to do that against cow I don't know I know cow struggle to stop UCLA's run game especially in the fourth quarter but I do like that attempt at balance I'm curious of Syracuse does that this week or if they kind of oh yeah we'll do that when we're playing in fear opponents but when we play good teams we're going to throw the ball over the field and throw it 60 times and run it 12 and you know I'm being a little hyperbolic but I'm very curious about that but I actually like

Syracuse in this game as do I yep I didn't like what I saw from cow I mean other than their quarterback just making some unreal throws I didn't see it the Muhammad Adam Muhammad had a nice game but you know there's a couple big runs I was I wasn't in love with what I saw from from cow but that's the problem when you when you've seen a bunch of teams played nobody and a couple teams have good games one of those teams doesn't look good you're like man they're a problem like would we be feeling the way we are about Clemson right now if they'd have played like South Carolina state and the opener instead of LSU yeah probably and we but we wouldn't know that they are that's a problem you know until later in the year but yeah cows got some stuff to work on how about Arizona plus seven and a seven and a half on the road against BYU that's a tough one man I I I actually like BYU in the game but I don't know I don't feel super comfortable with seven and a half I mean I it was a double overtime game last year I feel like it's going to be a competitive game again this year even though I do like I do like BYU to win it I don't know that I'd feel super

great about the points now BYU did blow Arizona out at home in 2024 but that was a four and eight BYU Arizona team that also lost by 40 40 UCF 27 to Colorado this is I think I think an improved sir Arizona team that is going to look more like the team saw last year than the one saw this year but they didn't blow northern Arizona out which was a little bit like okay let's see let's see how they do but you know they shook off a little bit of rust I thought offensively they they moved the ball Trev in that game it's just couldn't put in the end zone they had 35 points at 520 yards of offense they just couldn't put it to ball in the end zone so I get in that game do you see Arizona state or do you see Arizona losing by it like more than a touchdown or do you seem to yeah that's what I don't I don't like that number like I will I don't know that I I if I that I would take BYU like I would kind of lean towards maybe taking Arizona since he put Arizona

plus seven and a half like I don't know that I think BYU is going to win by more than a touchdown is what I'm what I'm getting at I think it's going to be a competitive game even though I like BYU when the game is kind of what I'm saying but it's also a game where I wouldn't be shocked if Arizona upsets BYU surprise but not shocked yeah I would take the points here too I would take Arizona plus 7.5 yeah I think it'll be a close game BYU has a little bit more to prove to me more to overcome on the perimeter but Arizona secondary has a little bit to prove to me as well yeah be interesting yeah I'll be interesting how about this one straight up money line Mississippi state versus Minnesota who you got in the outright win man I'm torn on this one I really liked what I saw for Minnesota but I I worry about do they have the athleticism on defense to contain Camarrient Taylor I'm going to lean towards the home team and lean towards Minnesota but man I do not feel good about picking that game it I don't it because I think with Mississippi state as you don't know what version of Mississippi state you're going to get I mean there are you going to get the Mississippi state last year that

you know that took Texas down to the wire are you going to get the Mississippi state that that that you know last year beat Arkansas on the road the Mississippi state that bad I thought battled with with Ole Miss for at least part of that game with the Florida only lost by two on the road to Florida only lost a Tennessee by touchdown or you're going to get the are you going to get the you know the version of beat Arizona State Lesser or you're going to get the version got blown out by Georgia blown out by Missouri whooped it you know in the bowl game by Wake Forest got blown out by Texas saying am I just don't know a version again I I like Minnesota this year but I had them losing this game in in my preseason prediction and then I had Minnesota being much better in their conference play but I liked what I saw for Minnesota in that game I'm back and forth on this one I'm I'm leaning towards Minnesota but I don't feel good about that one at all yeah I feel it's funny I feel how you feel about Mississippi state I also feel about Minnesota kind of like what version of them are we getting yeah very like are we getting the the Minnesota team

that you know holds Wisconsin to seven points the you know the one that scores 31 at home against or the one that gets blown out 42 to 3 to Ohio State loses the Iowa 41 to 3 just to north western like that's yeah because anytime they play the defense what a pulse last year they struggled yeah yeah and like the beat Eastern Illinois who's not even a good FCS it's I mean I don't mind teams playing FCS I've said that especially if you're playing one from your own state I have a problem with people playing bad FCS teams like Miami plays a team they got blown out last year by like Jackson State and the Gallup M A&M I think is one of the teams I'll blow him a state maybe blue amount like they got blown out by other at like not good FCS teams last year they got blown out by Florida Atlantic last year like why are you playing that team you know go go play go play the go play South Dakota State which somebody played last week you know play the good teams not these terrible teams in Eastern Illinois used to be good hasn't been in a while from what I remember

in the Mississippi State Minnesota game I'm taking Mississippi State Kamario Taylor was my pick to click so give me the bulldogs on the road yeah I picked them and then not in the offseason but I'm leaning a little bit towards Minnesota in this game because I always as we get closer tend to get drawn to the home team when I have questions about two teams I tend to get drawn to the home team in that scenario but Mississippi State showed if you go on the road last year and win against good non-conference opponents Arizona State season looks a lot different last year if they beat Mississippi State at home you know I mean it does I mean they ended up ended up being a eight and five team lost the bowl game they were eight four in the regular season they win that game they're nine and three football team that you know that now maybe we're having a different conversation about their season so be interesting how about this one Duke to cover their five and a half points spread against Illinois I like Illinois this one Duke's offense looked I mean yeah they ran the ball really

well on two lane scored 17 points you know Illinois played a not very good UAB team but at least they could move the ball so I like Illinois this one how about Boise State to win by ten or more versus Memphis don't like that I don't I wouldn't take I wouldn't take that I would I would I think Boise could win but I I would I wouldn't take them to cover like that I mean it's it's at home but we watched Memphis go on the road and beat you and LV you know and they've played two FBS teams so far and and they've won both convincingly so I like Boise State to win the game I I don't love the then the cover yeah I don't love the points in this one either nine and a half is tempting enough to where it's like I think about Memphis covering but that's still a good chunk of change and then I don't know for how much confidence I have in Boise State to win by ten or more so I'm staying away from that one to final one here we have Navy minus four and a half versus Florida Atlantic I'd take Navy

in that one I think they win by at least a touch now agreed got another one here from Tyler Revan's thank you for Super Chateler he says who wins Iowa or Iowa State what say you Mr. Trowbridge I'm going to go the Hawkeyes in this one I thought their offense was pretty impressive this will be their opportunity to kind of break the stigma of their offense looks significantly better against inferior opponents and then when they play at P-14 they just they've cooked friends kind of goes into the shell of like we're gonna run the football hold him to six points and then we'll see what happens in the fourth quarter you know and I think Iowa State's just not going to be that good this year so I got the Hawkeyes pretty convincingly Iowa was far more impressive blowing out Northern Illinois than what Iowa State was blowing out Southeast Missouri State they only ran to ball 108 yards in that game that's it 3.5 per carry against an FCS team and they only threw for 195 yards 9 of 17 like it was not the most sexy performance from their offense they had turnovers you know three to one on turnovers

and it was not a it was not a great performance from the cyclones in the first game now this is game two but I I will look way ahead of where Iowa State is right now as far as preparation to your point about the offense I mean they ran the ball right down North East Northern Illinois just to wrote I mean their offensive line looked like it was in midseason form it really did now this is a much different test much tougher test but I like the Hawkeyes as well I do big win for I I believe it's going to be a big win for Kurt France I say Iowa State players know how to beat Iowa but like how many of those guys are left how many of the guys from last year left yeah it's good point you know like okay you you could say that but like the quarterback that that led them to that victory last year is gone he's at Penn State you know the the the running back that actually the two running backs that that led them that game are both gone the game just faced one of them the other ones at

Penn State so like how many of those players that like quote unquote know how to beat Iowa are even on the roster yeah so I don't I don't I like the Hawkeyes there I do thank you for the Supercheck guys let's get back to the top we do have a question from Salty that's not none of them related that was our first question but I didn't want to lead the show off with a not Notre Dame topic especially a Michigan topic I'm with you Salty if Underwood does not improve in the season is a lost call and should Michigan go with Tommy Carp for at least an audition and will they should they yes I think the question is going to be the win like we talked yesterday like it would make total sense if he struggles in this game to go with Tommy Car it would make total sense from just a practicality standpoint but my concern no Travis how much how early do you want to put the hopes of a season on a true freshman you know I don't know that I want to do that at one in one where you're still a playoff contender you know and I would say I don't as much as I dislike Bryce Underwood I don't

know that two games is enough for me as a new coach to say okay he's cooked it would it would depend to not so much on how he plays but it's like what you and I talk about a lot it's not always how a guy plays that determines whether he should or shouldn't be benched exactly it's how they how they handle not playing well how they respond to not playing well listen I came in I played terrible let me get back into lab when you put into work let me improve my game coach you know like I'm I'm I didn't play well let's let's let's look at the film let's let's figure this out or do you react the way that Bryce Underwood is reacted publicly now just because he reacted they way publicly doesn't mean he's not putting in the work to get better behind the scenes and what he does behind the scenes is more important than what he says publicly so I don't want to assume like well he said this so that must mean insert thing that we don't know and so that's something that the staff is going to have to gauge but I would hope that they'd give a little bit more time number one to Bryce and then number two I don't know that I want to put that burden on Tommy Carwell one in one you're now the savior of the season is a true freshman I don't know that I'd want to put that burden

just yet the thing I'll be interested to see for Kyle Wittingham is in the past he has shown extreme dedication sometimes to a fault to a quarterback need I remind people of refusing to go away from camera rising and continually bringing him back and bringing him back and bringing him back and now now what takes the day is it the fact that you know he recruited camera rising and built a long-standing relationship with him and he's known Bryce Underwood now for like seven months I don't know what'll take the day there but I'm still sticking with my prediction I think Tommy Car takes over at some time by October but to Brian's point I don't know if game two outside of just playing utterly abysmal tomorrow afternoon I don't know if they pulled the career in and not handling it well right like you talk you know I talk about the look it's like no he's done he's mentally done now I wouldn't be opposed to going with Tommy off the bench in this game but then okay Bryce we're going back to you next week and maybe continue to do this for a little while until it's like okay but yeah I would I want to see what I have because there's a thing for all

my concerns about Bryce what Bryce Edwards has here and here what he's got here is still good you know athletic it's it's like I want to see what I can get from that kid and I don't know that two games gives you enough data to to definitively say we're moving on from him because my concern would be if I miss you again the minute you bench him he's done at your school in my opinion I would be concerned about that there's no hey man we want to sit you for a couple games let's you get your head on straight and then we'll bring you back in I don't see him responding well to that or his team around him off the field responding well to that yeah it's a big game for his future yeah it's about winning you got to show or even him like playing lights out he's just got to show something like hey he's not a finished product yet as a true sophomore but he's got something he showed me something he showed me competitiveness he showed me mox he made a couple plays yeah he missed this play this play this play but he made these plays these plays these plays and he handled the

mistakes well he bounced back from him he didn't let it snowball if I see those things and he doesn't play well it's not time to move on from him yet but if it's like the mistakes just snowball and he doesn't handle it well then you've got some tough decisions to make it if you're Michigan you're praying that Bryce Underwood doesn't put you in that position with how he performs on Saturday yep from Irish 81 28 with many power four teams refusing to schedule challenging games and the non-conference would you be in favor of the college football scheduling czar to schedule one out of conference game for each team for more compelling matchups yeah I would not be in favor of that I think this has to come from the conference commissioners is where this has got to come from I don't need a schedule czar to do that I just I don't I don't love that idea I think this comes down to the commissioners demanding that of their teams which I think Greg Sanky does a pretty decent job with it's Tony Petiti that's the problem let's just be real about that it's his

it's his league that's primarily the culprit of this you don't have schedules in the SEC like what what Indiana has in the non-conference not from your traditional powerhouses you don't have a Penn State type of schedule for teams in the SEC you just don't and in conference and out of conference and in outside of Ohio State and occasionally Michigan Michigan's been pretty decent about this a lot of the teams in a league don't play that type of team now some play a rival non-conference I don't have a problem with Iowa doesn't need to schedule a second power for opponent if you play a quality in conference rivalry game I live with that some years Iowa states good some years they're not so good but I'm okay with that it's it's these teams that refuse to play like one the power for team and and it doesn't have to be hey we've got to go schedule BAM or Georgia what it just give me somebody it's like a game that we care about oh missed it in schedule Miami but they scheduled Louisville and it made for a really good football game and it you know

just give me somebody I mean I'd rather you play Purdue you know if you're an SEC team then you know or Miami then Bethun Cookman or Florida A&M or Southeast Missouri State or some of these other just bad FCS teams give me give me something you know go play Duke you know it's if you don't want to play Miami if you're a big 10 school find whatever it is what it is but least play wake Duke somebody like that so I think that's got to come from the commissioners and I also think it's up the commissioners who have a responsibility in my opinion to their TV partners to put a good product on the field I wish they would do what they do in basketball we've talked about this trip I would be it would be awesome if the power for conferences had a rotating us versus you scheduling situation every year second week of the season we're doing this you know and week two of the college football season every year is going to be either the ACC versus the big 12 and the big 10 versus the SEC and then

the next year it's the big 10 versus the big 12 and the SEC versus the ACC and the next year it's the big 10 versus the ACC and the big 12 versus the SEC and you try to find some comparable level of of opponents you know what I mean like I don't need you to give Georgia Texas tech but don't give Texas tech you know Kentucky either you know give Texas tech Texas A&M or some you know what I mean like just give me something or give me like hey let's try to find some old when we play the big 12 I'm Greg Sankey and in this is the year we play the big 12 hey let's let's do let's try the best we can to get some old rivalry games so let's have you know Missouri play case state and let's have Arkansas play a former Southwest conference team that's now in you know TCU or something like that like like something where you're you're you're you're bringing some nostalgia to it you're also having some regional aspects to it you know let's maybe have Texas play um

you know Arkansas you know that's a former Southwest conference right something like that I would love for that to happen and I think that'd be great for TV ratings could you imagine if this weekend and week two so and if you did that I wouldn't care who you played in week one I wouldn't care if you played Southeast Missouri state week one because it's a glorified scrimmage to get you ready for the matchup between Georgia and you know Penn State or Georgia and Michigan state or even if you don't want to go ones verse one because I think the best way to go would be to have like your top teams kind of play your top teams but I understand you may not want to do that and then it would be up to the playoff committee to make sure that you're rewarding the teams that do play those intentionally play those you know those tougher non-conference games in which I think they did I mean heck they didn't hold it against Florida state or Alabama for playing Florida state last year in a loss right so Texas and Carl they want but we watched we watched Alabama lose by two touchdowns of Florida state so make the playoff why because Alabama didn't get beat twice in their league

play also not in the regular season so Alabama you know didn't lose to a 4-18 in their own league and so they didn't I didn't hear the committee talk about well we went back and watch that week one game between Florida state and Alabama know they only talked about the Miami Notre Dame game and and they gave a big boost to the team that played that type of game and one here's the thought how about you you play to win the game but I would be more in favor of that but it's got to come from the commissioners in my opinion I don't know that I would be a big fan of a of a czar and a commission Greg Sanky and and and what's the uh I keep one say Sanky but it's not Sank Sank what Brett your Mac Greg Sanky and Brett your Mac they know what's better for their teams than some scheduling czar does they know what matchups would make more sense for their leagues than than the other and I think that would be more good but I'd love to see some rotating week two is is some version of a of a power four against a power four that'd be awesome

that'd be great and then like week two could also be it for the g5 to get into the action mountain west versus pack 12 baby there's some beef there let's use that beef you know pack 12 you stole a bunch of our teams all right let's schedule each let's get a series going in week two pack 12 versus mountain west you know what I mean like if pack 12 say look we we want to we want week two we want our best teams to play the best teams on the American because we're trying to become the best g5 program then maybe we can we can get ourselves back to being a p5 team and go back to the power five is better power for it and that's gonna happen to have just because it's gonna mess with me as soon as I get comfortable with saying power four they're gonna throw the pack 12 back into the mix and then we got to get back to same power five again it's just kind of like how you know when you're well you may not I don't know how many checks you wrote in your life but that was always a big thing for me back when you had to write checks to pay bills is like I just got used to to writing the year that we're you know checks and now we're ready to move on to another year but I think that would be the way I'd want to go and then let the conferences choose how that

your sausage my muffin with egg didn't change you're receipt it the sausage my muffin with egg extra value meal includes a hash brown and a small coffee for just five dollars only at McDonald's for limited time price and participation may vary promotion pricing may be lower than meal pricing yeah I I caught the tail end of the riding the checks piece but I still wrote dates on things it wasn't just checks or nothing so I couldn't I'm not thinking I don't know what I'd write a date on but yeah I guess doctor's appointments and things like that one just notes in school like I didn't have laptops in high school like that's not a thing that we had it was all notebooks and stuff so dates on everything but I mean yeah I think it should be up to the conference commissioners to like school for Indiana like Indiana for example I think if the commissioner of the conference now we'll see if Tony Petiti does this I strongly doubt it it's like okay if you're gonna play three non-P4 schools we're gonna make you play a 10th conference game because odds are in an 18 team conference somebody else is also going to play three non-conference non-P4

so I put it in that or if not then it's up to them to go out and search for another team in a different P4 conference that also schedules three non-P4 opponents like that's what I would want personally and if you want to avoid that then don't be canceling games against Virginia and Virginia Tech and Notre Dame like if you wanted to be in your own hands then do that but I think it should be up to the conference commission like okay if you're gonna schedule Sam Houston State North Texas and Houston Christian State then you have to you have to drop one of those games and we're gonna make it play Michigan because you don't have them on your schedule this year I think that's what it should come down to because at this point short of what a combined seven games week zero and week one were pointless like there's a reason why all of us are really looking forward to the middle of October and November because that's when the real football starts I get nothing from watching Miami versus Sam or from watching Miami and Florida A&M not a

thing you know now in defense of Miami that was a garbage game to play last night but I do believe that game happened because another team canceled and sometimes you're left with fewer options but this is why I give respect to Greg Senky he did the SEC demands that it's literally in the bylaws in your as that when they move to nine conference games in there you have to play a power 14 or Notre Dame the big 10 doesn't have that and and again that's why this is on the conference commissioners you should demand that one way to fix that is you don't demand that but we are agreeing as powerful commissioners that we're going to sign a 10 year contract agreement with each other right and then the home team gets whatever the network is right so I have equal number of home games as best you can and so when it the home games that are at the big 12 they play on the big 12s TV network if it's the big 10 versus the SEC all the games played on big 10 conferences or our

NBC CBS or Fox and all the games played on the SEC teams are vice versa or if you wanted to have some fun with it flip them you know like like like CBS gets to host the SEC or whatever Fox and NBC and then ESPN gets the home games of the big 10s they don't get to go to those stadiums anymore like but whatever the case it's like you know it's it's good for both networks because they're both going to get a piece of the pie in that regard but that should be demanded from conference commissioners and this goes back to this it's the commissioners to the need to fix that because at the end of the day let's just say like there was going to be a scheduling's are who gives that guy authority it's the conference commissioners so my thing you don't need to create a paying position and that guy would have a whole staff that would help him have to put that together you already have people that are employed by the conferences that should be doing that stuff you don't need to create a new position it's like I you know I know you guys are hanging out with the government right

now in order to you know get this thing fixed but we don't have to like take from their thing and so let's create new things and spend more money when we already have things in place that could deal with that problem sure no so that's why it's up to the commissioners to take care of that that makes sense yeah well like somebody just said like Bobo too you brought this up chief brody brought this up because how crazy was watching their name on ESPN in the home playoff game but like that's a great point but like that I would say like the ACC would say hey listen in the years we're going to play the big 10 we need Notre Dame so Notre Dame you're going to be part of this agreement I mean that'd be kind of fun too you know in those years hey or hey Notre Dame will you partner with us in these situations in year two because there's going to be some years when year two they're playing a team from that conference already so they can include that as part of it that would be kind of be kind of fun reading yeah Remington jeans bringing up a super chat that I don't love Remington I don't want to be thinking about this but we appreciate super chat so we'll

we'll get into it appreciate you Remington not wishing my question to come true however Marcus Freeman was not the head coach of Notre Dame who in the current coaching landscape would be a good fit at Notre Dame I have put a lot of thought into it I'd have to think more about that I mean I and I'd want to be realistic one guy that I'll say there's several coaches that are on my radar guys that I'm like okay I don't know if that guy would be a good fit but but I'm very curious to see how he would do and one of them to be completely honest with he is Bob Chesney at UCLA and the reason I say that is because he does have some northeastern ties he has been it been at schools that I think are are more academic oriented he's an older guy but doesn't seem older he's almost 50 doesn't look 50 but you know he's been at Holy Cross assumptions of Regina he's Johns Hopkins so I think he would kind of understand he would he would get the the Notre Dame challenges a little bit more

but he's got to show me can really win and recruit at UCLA but but he's one of those guys I know that some people brought up Kenny Dillingham I love his offensive mind I don't know that he'd handle the head coaching duties at Notre Dame as well you know but Trev if you have any guys you're thinking of please feel free to throw them in but they're either I kind of looking at guys like that as opposed to like okay they're gonna go get this established like you're not gonna get Kirby smart you're not gonna get right there you're not gonna get Dan Lanny you know what I mean like those guy you know Steve Sarkies and not that I'd want him but I'm just naming like the the proven coaches I'd want to have my eye on sort of a a different type of yeah one of the guys at the top of my list and I know Notre Dame fans aren't gonna like this but it's Tommy Reese I mean we've heard nothing but the last week or so talking about you know Notre Dame's offense he's to do this and Mike Marcus Freemans just do you know Trustle Ball Trustle 2.0 like okay we'll go higher in offensive coach then then I would go get Tommy Reese and I think he understands while being a part of a coaching staff

I think he understands what it means to be a part of Notre Dame and understands the Lord then the tradition that comes with that and during his time on Notre Dame's coaching staff he got to be with some pretty defensive coordinators in his time too he was paired up with Mike Elko, Clark Lee, Marcus Freemann I mean I think that would be but I think that'd be a good hire and it'd be one of the people that I talk to he's still young so you get that aspect of you know the thing that made Marcus Freemann an exciting hire was he was the young coach to keep Notre Dame modern I don't I wouldn't want them to go hire somebody who's 65 to replace Marcus Freemann so that's where I would be yeah he's gonna obviously have to have some success as an OC I think Tommy's a brilliant mind he's just I he's had some bad jobs honestly I mean I don't know how much success we're gonna have he'd have to do well there but I do not hate that if he's having success as an OC in the NFL like really ripping it up I don't hate that I have some concerns there'd be some things

I'd need to to ask him about but I don't hate that like I love Jeff Brahms I think Jeff Brahms a great offensive mind but I question the whole we're gonna lose the game we shouldn't thing at Louisville and and that doesn't because he did that at Purdue that that concerns me will he recruit desire to recruit portal guys will he recruit high school players those those are guys that I look at you know Lancelier pulls a really good coach he's not another name guy I like Lance Clark Lee a lot I don't know that Clark Lee would thrive at Notre Dame I really don't so be said Lance Taylor I don't hate that you know what I mean like I'd want to see him really build up western Michigan but I don't hate that that's one that I'd have my own as well so yeah there's a there's a lot of guys like that but I like those kind of names as opposed to wasting time for me talking about like the Dan landings and the Kirby smarts and the you know the guys are just like that's not a realistic option I mean look Tony Elliott's a guy that I have on my radar right now that wasn't on that my because

I was talking with somebody about this last night as Brian Smith when I were talking about you know Florida state and where they would go if they did get rid of Mike Norvell and he brought up Tony Elliott and I said you know it's funny when we were getting ready for that Virginia game in 2024 but you and I were talking about that team like look they're not very good but we pray they they play hard for this guy yeah even when they lose like they never back down they play hard for this guy now that he's got some players they look really good and really well coach so he's on my radar now can he keep building on this you know and so it guys like that attract me more than than try and have conversations about and Brent Key would not be on my radar I know but you know guys like that I care a lot more about Spencer Danielson somebody said that that'd be one that I'd consider how does he do at Boise State but guys like that are more of where I would be looking as opposed to focusing on like the the more established at a big school commodities yep every game day you show up for your team now it's your time
