Experts point at growing awareness and social media as reasons for the rise in reports. Things like coerced image sharing or AI altered explicit content among kids are becoming more common. Sometimes linked to the child's own past trauma, neurodiversity, or deliberate harm. A mother whose son was abused by another child described the lasting trauma on her family. Her boy feels his life is forever changed, and they've all needed counseling, anxiety mediation, and sleep aids to cope with the shock and guilt. Independent social workers call for better sex education in schools, free from religious influences to help kids recognize and report these risks. They stress that while children make mistakes, proper guidance can prevent harm and teach healthy boundaries.
