Välkommen back to Keen Carlson.

Thanks so much, Elon. It's awesome to be here. And yeah, it was awesome to meet up with you and a bunch of other people and Toronto a couple months ago. It's a good time. Yeah, definitely. I don't recall too much called or talk. So I think we still have a lot of fresh snow here to tread on. But yeah, I, of course, I've been listening to your fantasy hockey life podcasts. All summer long. You got your prospect rankings. Everyone needs to check them out. But this episode is going to be focused on the players who are eligible for the call or trophy. And we're not like look, like Victor has got a list of his rankings compared to the odds. You know, we're not like giving any gambling advice or anything. So it's a fun way to see like what the general, the odds makers are like, you know, the general consensus of who are the most likely. And I like to look at this as like, I'm going into my cup full draft to your one. There's going to be 16 teams. All the other divisions are 14 teams. There's going to be a lot of players drafted might be fun to take a swing on a rookie. These rookies tend to fall a little bit farther. I could have gotten Matthew Schaefer so late in last year's draft.

If you had told me you were busy telling me that Sam Renzell is the guy I should draft. But maybe we'll find someone this year. But anyways, we did pretty good last year, but yeah, I guess we can start there. How were you really surprised? It was just a matter of you didn't think Schaefer was going to even make the team or like, because he really, I listened back at one point and it was like, yeah, we didn't have much high hopes that Schaefer was going to be in the conversation at all. And now it's like he maybe he's going to be the sixth defenseman drafted this season. Yeah, I mean, he just didn't even play that many games. Like, I don't know how anyone would have known that he was going to be that good because he literally had such a small sample size. You know, the question where he was so good that maybe he could make the team. Maybe he could play half the season, but, you know, going from playing 17 OHL games to a full 82 and being as special as he was, it's just, you never see anything like that. So I think you have to be willing to just be completely blown away and surprised by things like that because I don't think anyone truly predicted it.

And if they say that now, I think they're lying. Right, that's fair. So I guess a good conversation we can have as we go through this year's list is like, who's this year's Matthew Schaefer? And maybe also who's this year's Sam Renzell, someone who we're going to get excited about. People are going to draft and then they're going to end up being complete busts. But we'll keep track of that as we go along. This is an easy episode for me, generally, because I throw to you. And you're going to just give me your list of your rankings here. And I'll all have a good time just chatting from the sidelines of my thoughts. So I guess without further ado, Victor, who do you have as, how do you want to do this? You want to do listed by the Calder odds or do you want to do it listed by just your, your rank, who do you think's going to win? Maybe we'll go based on my ranks. That might be better. Let's hear it then. Who's the, let's just pull off the bad date. Who's going to win the Calder trophy rookie of the year, 2026, 27? Well, there's a few good candidates, but I'm going to put my money on Cole Hudson. Oh, long shot.

Well, you know, he put long odds, right? Yeah. What does he have? Yeah, I've got seventh ranked odds. Yeah, I mean, look, his brother did it. I don't know what lanes odds were going into his season, but yeah, I've heard a lot of talk about Marton and Gavin McKenna, of course, front del maybe, but okay, Cole Hudson. I guess that's, let's hear about him because if he's going to, that's extra exciting, I feel like because we all need D in our one year leagues. And Cole Hudson is definitely someone you're going to be able to get a lot later than like a Matthew Schaefer, of course. So yeah, let's hear what you think. Cole Hudson's going to be able to do. We did get a small sample last year and he was, he was pretty good on Washington. And Lane has shown that, you know, people can steal top power plays, even in a rookie season for Lane. It was Mike Matheson, who I think everyone going into the year thought, like, okay, Matheson's for sure, PP1. Maybe one day Lane will steal the job and it took him like a couple weeks. Maybe the same good happen with Jacob Chikren, though I've discussed on previous podcasts, including my one, I just did with Dom Lusschish and we were trying to figure out the

cap's power plays and they have so many good forwards now that they could just run two power plays. So it's not as if anyone needs to steal a job from anybody potentially, but you know what he like about Cole Hudson. Yeah, well, I mean, first of all, he was pretty awesome last season. 10 points and 14 games, 10 this season. That's a 60 point pace. Of course, that doesn't mean he can do that over an 84 game season. But you look at some of the underlying numbers and involving hockey. He was above average defensively, which everyone likes to talk about how bad the Hudson's are defensively, but he wasn't. He was above average in that small sample size and on the power play, his power play time, which he only got, he got a couple minutes time, power play time on ice. He was well above average in terms of his expected goals and offense contribution. So that's already pretty impressive. Of course, you know, they have Chikren, which is a bit of an issue, but Chikren's also been a guy who has been pushed aside at various points and doesn't need the power play to be relevant. We know he has a lot of value elsewhere and I think the team knows that.

But Hudson, like his brother, Lane Cole, makes his money and will make his money on the power play. So I think there's a very good chance that he at least gets half and then maybe steals a job from Chikren, which skies the limit at that point. Yeah, even last year, and it's again, it's a whole different capsteam. They've brought in Tuck. They've brought in Kyru. They have Yelia Protas now, Ryan Leonard's a year older. So it's like it's kind of a different team than last year, but last year for what it's worth at the start of the year, they were rolling with both John Carlson and Jacob Chikren on the power play for a while. So maybe theoretically Chikren could not play the point, but could go somewhere else while Hudson plays the point. I guess there's a lot of ways they can do it. That's going to be a really fun team, obviously, to watch. Okay. So there you go. Cole Hudson, a guy who was drafted. Where was he drafted? He wasn't even a first round pick for Washington, right? He's like a second or third round pick, I think. Like this is quite a find for the caps. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like fool me once. Shame on me, fool you twice or shame on you then shame on me. Like that should have been shame on everyone because he was taken a 43rd overall. And it's not like we didn't know about Lane when Cole came up.

Like there were the same situation, the size concerns, but the fact is that if you look at Cole's production, it was actually better at the same age than Lane's. And he's a little feisty year. Cole has more bash than Lane ever did. I think that's also important to note. Like he had over a hit per game already and half a block per game that Lane, I don't even know if he even does that now. So Cole has more bash and had more production at the same levels of junior and college than Lane did. So there was a pretty good evidence already that and I said this all along. Cole could be as good if not better than Lane. And I still believe that I don't know whether he'll win the caller, but it certainly seems like he could have at least as good of a season as Lane did in his first season. Man Victor, I mean, I think right away we've got our potential Sam Ranzell candidate, right? Because now you're getting me excited. I'm going to get to like the ninth, you know, whatever round of my cup full draft, which by the way, I'm not sure when this episode is going to get released. We're recording this Monday, August 31st. We'll release at some point the Patriot, the super supporters will get the episode early. But all that to say that I just

bring that up to say that the couple registration deadline is September 1st, but we are planning on extending it a couple days. So if you listen to this, even if you've missed the deadline completely and you're like, oh my gosh, I missed the right. You can still register, you'll get on a wait list and we'll try our best to squeeze you in. But all that to say, the keeping cars, all the Patriot fantasy league, when I'm up in like the ninth round or something and I need another D. I remember last year, I was just like, I gotta get it. It's going to be so exciting. I'm going to get this like top power play. All the other top power play guys are gone. I can get this guy who's going to kill in on Chicago. Now you're getting me just as excited. So maybe this will be a shame on me for me twice situation or maybe you will love you. Right. This time in co-hatson will be better than what we thought. Rinsell would be to be fair, though. Rinsell was one of those like good options because you could get him later. And he had sort of a late rise to relevance. This is not the same situation. Cole has been a stud at every step of his development. It's not like a lay bloomer situation. It's very different. So I'm much more confident that Cole will be really good this year. I don't know whether

he'll win the callder, but I think he'll be way better than Rinsell was. So I don't think you're going to have that same feeling. And I definitely think that he should be taken, you know, middle later rounds of even redraflies because I think he's a perfect guy to fill as your third or fourth defense slot because I think he could even perform close to the first or second depending on your team. All right. Okay. Well, there we will see how out where Cole Hudson then gets drafted. I guess I we do have 80 p's from the keeping Carlson mock drafts we've been doing. I'm seeing Cole Hudson 147. So you can still get him pretty late according to that. And though maybe after this podcast things will change. All right. So you got Cole number one. Who do you have as your number two pick for the callder? Number two, I'm going Porter Marton. And Marton is the, let's see, he has pretty decent odds. Am I reading this right? It says 11th best odds that the game. I think your list is definitely wrong. But from what I've seen Marton is the top odds. Yeah.

I thought that's what I make sense. Yeah. After his 10 points in nine games last year and then like continue to do well in the playoffs, maybe not as well. But just the fact that he was a regular playoff guy on the team at I'm seeing five points in 10 playoff games. Yeah. Like what an impact for a guy who was taken sixth overall. I wonder how much Nashville they won't they'll never say it. But like they must be thinking like man, we could have Porter Marton and we took Brady Martin. I don't know. But yeah. Well, the art and took a bit of a step back this season, I think. So I don't think it was great. Right. Well, yeah. We'll see maybe Martin wins the call to the seer and changes. Everyone's a Finney battle. I think Marton is going into this episode. I was thinking Marton is my pick, even though it's kind of chalky and boring. Yeah. And I think it's a great pick. I mean, that's why I have number two, not only not only did we see it in the regular season, but we saw it in the playoffs. Like he was impressive in the playoffs and kind of became pretty clutch for them in their run through the second round. So I think that was all pretty darn impressive. And

his defensive impacts, which are always important to look at to see if he'll get more ice time, we're really good. So it's not like he's a black hole defensively, Marton. And he's got a good number of hits and shots. So he's already providing that floor, which is really nice. If you roster him, you're not going to get nothing. The issue is really like, will he get consistently that top deployment? Of course, that's always the concern. I think he will though. I think he's going to be stabled on that top line. I guess the other problem is that the top line or top six and Philly just isn't that good. So, you know, he might end up being one of the better options on a weaker top six. Okay, I guess it's tricky because I think I could just see Marton being like top line top power play, playing with Kineckney, just getting like all the deployment. That's kind of the vibe I get from him, but it's just hard to ignore also just what he did last season. So I'm pretty stoked to see what Marton can do. I guess we'll learn more in training camp as things come up. But it seems like just all of a sudden, like he's the future of the team. But okay, so Marton number two, where are we going to go next?

Next, we're going to go to Gavin McKenna and people are probably screaming at their phone or app right now. Why is the McKenna number one? You know, and I think that he deserves to be in the top three. I think he'll certainly be in the running. I think I was hearing the athletic guys today talking about how they can't remember a number one pick going to a better situation. And I think that's true. He's going to what has been a good team, has great players, has the potential to just slide into that top line top power play. And I think the big question for me is, are they going to ask him to do anything more than just be offensive and be on the power play? And don't do anything the rest of the game because he doesn't. And he's kind of weak off puck and away from the play. So I could see them trying to improve his all-around game and maybe limiting his ice time because of that. And if they do that, it's going to limit his point potential. But if he gets the golden keys and says, just score. Don't worry about anything else, then he can put up 70 points. Yeah, I mean, the big question to me is just if McKenna is going to

land a spot on the top power play, which really would make him one of the better physicians of any rookie in a long time. I was talking, yeah, we had the show with Dumbo's Chisholm that we recorded yesterday. And he was saying that he thinks that that's a kind of McKenna's whole great skill. So it would be kind of like what you said about Cool Hudson. Of course, that would mean that a Tavaris or a Matthew Nies could get bumped. So maybe McKenna will have to earn his way on. I feel like I just don't want to go, just assume for sure 100%. Yeah, McKenna's on the top power play and on the top line with Matthews all season long. Sometimes with rookies, you know, they have to, there's maybe chemistry issues or maybe they have things to learn. So you don't want to be like 200% like at least with Marton and Hudson, we've seen them already be playing the NHL and show that they can hang with those like big, you know, important roles. But obviously McKenna was picked first overall for reasons. So I think he's definitely a good bet. But I think I'm with you that I'd have those other two ahead of him. Last year was a special case, I guess first overall ran away with the calder, but it doesn't always happen. So I guess who's the calder winner of the year before the old lane Hudson?

Yeah, he definitely wasn't a first overall pick. Okay, well, that's fun. I guess those are the main front runners, right? McKenna and Marton. I think according to most people, but still we got a fun long list here. I'm looking through this list of rookies. I got to tell you like this might be one of the years. This would be fun thing to track. Like the year we might have the most rookies like drafted in one year leagues. I feel like there's a lot of guys here that seem like they couldn't be pretty solid. Who do you have next? Good point. Yeah, I think there's a lot of relevant guys for redraft, which isn't always the case. Yeah, I feel like last year we weren't like, we were like high on San Lorenzel, which kind of again, I also mentioning his name, which is supposed to show maybe there wasn't as exciting of a pool. Yeah. So next is I have our Stenberg and he's plus 550. So I don't think he kind of lands in the near the top. But I that surprises me. Yeah, I'll let you talk. But Stenberg, I mean, Stenberg, you know, there was a lot of discussions with him and McKenna. And I still believe that you pick Iver Stenberg to win

championship. You pick McKenna that give you lots of points. I think that that's their different types of players. And you can win with guys like McKenna for sure, but like Stenberg is harder to play against. He's better in all situations. Like you can trust him, you know, up or down, power play penalty kill. He's very versatile forward. And that's going to I think allow him to play more in the season. And I think he's going to he's going to be relevant. I think right away, and might even work his way out of that top power play and get, you know, similar point totals to what I think McKenna can get at least this season, just because he'll get more time on ice. And San Jose has some pretty special players too. I don't think he plays though with Celebrini, because they already kind of have turnershoff and Smith earmarked for that position. But Misa, if you believe what Dom said last night, which I agree is going to take a big step forward this year, that could be pretty good for Stenberg and those two could make some magic together. I agree with that, but I guess I just wonder if like, is there really a spot on the top power play this year for Stenberg? Maybe long term, but yeah, I would take I would think Misa

maybe gets the shot first. He was second overall in last year's draft or no, yeah, second overall. So I guess would be still a brini Smith. Misa, I mean, there could be another name, right, that could even be Stenberg as the fourth one, right? It's not like there's anyone like guaranteed there. I guess we're looking at like a Mason Marchment or a whenberg was there last year to fully daily face offsets to fully. But I agree, I think either Trunershoff or Stenberg is probably more likely there. And you know, might make sense just to put Trunershoff because then that's your top line plus Misa, you know, so that could make sense or maybe they put Eva there for a bit. I don't think he's guaranteed it for sure, but I think he'll see some looks here there. And if it clicks, then maybe there'll be more. Yeah, I guess just as a side note, because I know that you're maybe you've quit. I was about to say you're a shark's fan, or maybe are you not a shark's fan? Actually, I think once I said that and you corrected me and said that you're not. I don't know. I don't know. You don't have a shark's fan, but you know, when you're media, when you write and when you go to the draft, you can't really have a fandom.

So I've been neutral for the last since I've been doing this podcast. I'd be really neutral. So I do not claim to be a shark's fan though. I should use the okay. So I've become also a lot less of like a fan of teams as I used to. I used to like cry when the Ottawa Senators would get eliminated from the playoffs. And now it's like definitely when the Leafs, you know, I live in Toronto now, like when the Leafs are in the playoffs or when the Hubs were in last year, like I was rooting. I was going to the bars watching games. It was fun to cheer for them. But I wasn't like heartbroken, like I used to be. And when people ask me why I was just saying like, oh, I play fantasy hockey now. I'm so used to just cheering for different players on my teams. My favorite team is my fantasy team. But I feel like people give me a dirty look. It's like, you're like not doing this right. Like you're not a true hockey fan. But maybe I need to say I'm media. Because I have a podcast. I'm kind of I'm not media like you. I'm not invited to any events. But I have, I don't know. I can just call myself media who's going to stop me. Maybe that's more like I'll grow up. You are. Reason that I can give. You're media. You need to be objective. And that's kind of the point. You got to be objective. And you are exactly. That's point.

All right. So we've gone through Hudson, Marton, McKenna, Stenberg. There's a name of someone who I would have taken above Stenberg. And I see he's not even going to be mentioned for a while. So I'll let the listeners try to guess or you could try to guess who I'm thinking that hasn't been mentioned yet. But I guess we can go to your number five here. Number five is Kahnsta Helenius, the Buffalo Sabers pick. He was taken 14th overall in 2024. And he was he was awesome this season for the HL Rochester Americans. And I believe he was on that World Championship team. And I believe he scored the golden goal for them to win the World Championship this season. So that was pretty impressive. He also was with Buffalo for the playoffs. And you know, he didn't have the biggest role. But he had a couple of really key moments, Kahnsta Helenius. And I think all of that just points to the only reason I mentioned all of that is that he's ready. He's ready for this opportunity. He played nine NHL games. He played some playoff games. He looked really good in those roles. And he's basically torn up the HL as a teenager, which whenever that happens,

it's usually a sign of really good things to come. You know, I think the only question is, do they try to make him a center in which he kind of is? And if he if they do that, he might get pushed down to the middle six third line. And that might be hard for him to produce from there. But I'm pretty sure he'll be in the NHL all if not most of the season. I think Buffalo is an interesting case because on one hand, you can say, well, they have so many people like how is Helenius even gonna like make an impact when he has so many people to compete with. You know, you've got your your Benson's and your Josh Dohn. And I don't know like Jack Quinn. Like I just feel like it's like, oh, like who's going to be on the top power play my shift around. But I guess another way though you could look at it is like, yeah, they have a lot of people but no one that's like really cemented themselves. So maybe Helenius could just take the opportunity to be like, I'm better than all these guys. I'm going to be the one that gets the top six role and the top power play. And there is the opening with Alex Tuck having left. So maybe not the tuck was getting top power play a lot of the time. But I could definitely see Helenius doing something, especially after he was in the playoffs. He scored a couple goals in four games.

That'll be I have been one of my dynasty leagues. So I would be very happy if this can work out well for him. It's a good pick for sure. But not the person I was thinking. So let's go on to to your next one. I mean, I was thinking Marton I should say, but at my number two thought like Hudson also I like I kind of have three like Marton Hudson. And then I have one other person that I feel like is like the clear like next best chance. But we'll discuss it. I guess when we get there. Okay. Oh, we going. Little anticipation there. I like it. You can guess. We can just say it. Who do I who do I think you think it's not listed in my top 10 or isn't your top 10. It's just like not someone we've talked about yet. I think it might be a front. Yeah. Front. Exactly. He was he was there last year. He looked good. Now he's going to probably be on the top power play in Chicago. He's even getting an opportunity. Maybe they're like top line like main focal point with Bidard out to start the season. Like it just seems like a great opportunity for on Dell and just like Marton. I think Front Dell came in right away. Like I remember in

Cacupville like someone else grabbed Front Dell. Like before even played his first game. Look at these people. They're prospect ads like oh too obsessed. But then he was it was like good. He was worth holding and was was producing for throughout the rest of the season. So I just feel like he has a great chance to just come in and just continue what he was doing and get like 65 points. Like I would take him over Hellenius. So I feel like we still have a question mark of and Stenberg even like where's even their role in the lineup. I feel like Front Dell is roles top line. I think right from the start and then maybe like second line if he's center and Bidard is center. But just just my thought. What do you think about that? Am I am I showing my my greenness here when it comes to evaluating prospects? Well I think you've gotten much better here. So I don't I don't think you can say that anymore. I think your your takes have grown a lot. I think what I would say about Front Dell is that yeah that's all true and yeah he's going to be he's going to have great opportunity. Of course there's Roman Kanserov. Oh I didn't put him on the list. He should be on the list too. No I see. I don't know if he's on the list. Okay yeah.

But Kanserov is going to be there and maybe one of them gets top line. But I think what really concerns me about Front Dell is that he's just he's not a good play driver. He's just not. He needs a facilitator and Chicago their brass has been very clear that they want him to play center. Even though Front Dell has never really played center they made him play center in the NHL and they want to seem to continue to make him play center which is just very odd considering that they do have I know Bidard's injured but you know he seems to be okay down the middle and Nazar has been there. They also have all of her more and Ryan Green they have some guys who can play there. They really want Front Dell to do that which is just not his thing and so that concerns me from an organizational perspective that they're going to try and fit that square peg into a round hole and that's going to make it hard for him. You know it's going to make it hard for him to produce plus the team is still not great and so he's going to get a lot of opportunity but he's going to be able to put up that many points maybe maybe because the reality is that

is what he does. As long as they insulate him and give him enough support which I just don't know that Chicago can actually do. Interesting. Do you think Chicago is also regretting not taking Porter Marton? Maybe it's too early but you got to be wondering. I think well I mean I prefer I've prefer Marton because I think he's a better player he's a better he's one of those wingers that can they can kind of like Blake Wheeler you know who can basically play drive from the wing so I like that about Marton you don't need to worry about who his center is which is center Marton center is probably going to be Christian DeVora which is you know not great but it doesn't matter because he's so good you know front L he needs someone he needs someone to kind of do that for him which they don't really have. he basically set records things that have never been done in the SHL he was top line top power play killing penalties he was he ran their top line at the world championships against men you know he's just a super impressive guy it doesn't matter that he's five nine he's an excellent play driver's all around guy I think the only criticism you could say about Bjork well of course he's really young he's never played in the NHL but he played in one of the best leagues and thrived as a as a craft eligible but he's he's one of those guys that'll sacrifice offense for the good of you know winning and so in fantasy we may not know in real life that's the guy you want you know captain material but in fantasy you know you might not like that quite as much so maybe like Jonathan Taves you know kind of player so I think he can reach that upside potentially eventually maybe not right away but he's just so strong in all situations that Bjork is gonna play and it's just a question of whether they put him as the third line center or second line center

and whether he sneaks onto that top power play which seems unlikely that he will but you never know I mean I was actually just listening to a podcast from the athletic where they had Marata Tesh talking about the Winnipeg Jats was called like how to fix or whatever and like seemed to me like Marat things Bjork is gonna be the second line center is like they literally just have nobody like they have Adam Lowry who is your quintessential third line center and there's just kind of nobody else to do that job so it's a great opportunity for Bjork to just step it unfortunately the second line center on Winnipeg doesn't have the best second line wingers to play with I guess he would have assuming they stick with Schifley Connor Valardi that's leaving you cool per fettie who we still don't know and then like I'm seeing here on puck pd brad Lambert potentially is a guy who's another like rookie or I don't know how many games brad Lambert has played maybe he's not eligible anymore but like we really like it's bear very quickly and you know need a rider feels like a third liner at this point in his career Alex I have follow sometimes is around but anyways I'm just saying like these are the names that are in contention which just shows why

Connor hella buck is requested to trade but yeah even like top power play I feel like could be in the cards and he said like probably not to start like you would think they're gonna go a Schifley Connor Valardi cool per fettie but I recall last year there were even times when Jonathan Taves was taking a turn on the top power play instead of per fettie like I just they don't like per fett or maybe they like they want to like him I don't get the vibe that per fettie has anything locked in so Vigo Bjork comes in and is like really great I don't see why he can't get a shot on pp1 so I think that's a really fun pick for sure the opportunity is there he's young but I guess these players are all young I know he's also kind of small maybe there's some adjustment coming to the NHL but I like this pick I like this big just based on the fact that I think he's pretty locked in as the second line center unless he just like can't do it you know like whatever the job is his to lose it it seems like he's definitely locked in the one thing you can say about Vigo is that he's not gonna be afraid of the moment he's not gonna be intimidated he's done it on the biggest stages already and he looked amazing and and everyone looked to him you know

it's kind of it's very telling I was I was thinking about I don't know if you remember the Michael Jordan story but when he was at North Carolina and he was the freshman and all these softwares and juniors were when they when the game winning shot was ready to be taken everyone looked at Jordan and he was a freshman it's like why are you looking at this young guy that's how everyone looks at Vigo Bjork you know the guy like the frontels you know the Eklens the guys that were older on that Swedish team they all look to him why because he's incredible you know he may not be the most offensively gifted but he's the guy who is undeterred by the moment and who is gonna rise to the occasion so he's gonna be there it's just a matter whether he puts up got a point totals in this first season which I'm guessing no but he'll be there and he'll get tons of opportunities so he will be a fun pick who'll get games and he'll he'll he'll put up some stats they just may not be super impressive yeah I mean I'll take Vigo Bjork if he's still available late in my cup full draft like why not maybe actually I could go and we already have the tier one Sweden draft room open I'm gonna go right now and add a star beside Vigo Bjork a new

feature I added recently to the Keeping Croson draft platform by the you can start there's two things that you have a queue and you have star and you could kind of just because some people don't maybe don't want to put people in their queue but they just want to you know mark them so which I love by the way I don't know if I've told you that but I I love your draft platform it's very very handy sweet thanks feel free to use it for something I'm doing mocks right now actually oh awesome not that yeah so also would this be the first ever Vigo in the NHL I think of Ghostbusters at this point like the coldest you know this is like when Roger McQueen was drafted and everyone was like oh like the like the character from cars like because everyone is the same with the character from Ghostbusters so that's fun I guess we have a few names though like I don't know if there's an IVAR that I that I recall in the NHL there'd been a porter I don't think so so actually yeah this might be someone do the check of like is this the rookie class with the most unique first names like player names that haven't been in the NHL consta are there other consta I don't

recall a consta either well this next guy you have I think I've seen this name before but it's also kind of a unique I've seen more of this guy's first name is a last name Jeff Carter but you've got a Carter Yakum Chuck next yeah Carter Yakum Chuck he's he's next and yeah he's he's a really interesting player because he's he's he's all he's all gas all gas no break not a not a not a lot of great defensive acumen he actually reminds me it's funny he actually reminds me a lot of Eric Carlson when he was coming up which is just like incredible offense but you know the defense is suspected times but sometimes it's just so good that he's just in the offensive zone and it kind of doesn't matter I think he might be able to achieve that kind of relevance of course the big problem and the reason he's lower is that they have Jake Sanderson so why are they gonna hand the reins to this rookie who maybe has some questions about his all around play when they have Jeff's Jake Sanderson already can do everything you know so I don't think there's a need

yeah and we have Thomas Shabbat in the picture who's a really viable defenseman on the team I feel like you having Yakum Chuck over Frandell is kind of like vibes of it's giving Cory Prondman ranking like Yakum Chuck over Spence and or something like maybe one day but I don't know for the night this season I feel like Frandell has a much bigger opportunity like well Yakum Chuck even for sure make the team I feel like that's not even a sure thing at this point I think he's the first guy on your list that I'm like 50 50 on unless I'm unless I miss some news item I think like he'll you know he'll compete in training camp but Ottawa does have let me bring up the Ottawa Senators Death Chart here well God of course oh go ahead Dahmer has him playing 70 games so I'm not the last is because of Ardom Zub gets Ardom Zub gets injured all the time but assuming everyone's healthy you've got Sanderson Zub Shabbat Spence Clevvern and okay so I guess they have this guy like Mantapalo that sometimes plays Steven how they see Yakum Chuck will compete I guess for that six spot we'll see we'll see we'll see we'll be the referencing Dobber and your referencing

like daily face off which is like you know nothing we would retweet on game day tweets.com like we got to get the oh I know but what else do we have right now we don't have we don't have training camp lines or anything so I know daily face off just made up lines but you know it's the best we have right now yeah no I'm excited to actually start seeing something like this it's coming pretty soon it's already September and the season starts early it's gonna be so fun okay so now I guess number eight after Yakum Chuck you have Anton Frontel who we've talked about number nine I got to say this guy is someone who I'm makes me nervous because in that dynasty I was just telling you about where I have Consta Heleneus we had the fourth overall pick last year we also had the first overall pick that we traded for we got Matthew Schafer so it was very excited about that but then we also had the fourth overall pick and we could have taken Porter Marton but we didn't and we took this guy instead and now I'm feeling like I really blew it here so I hope you'll have nice things to say about your ninth choice for long term at least oh long term yeah long term

I think James Higgins is the one C in Boston I think he's got point per game plus upside he's awesome you know whether that happens this season I seriously doubted just because you know I know Pobl's that Canalisland home aren't amazing but they're established any gentlers and they can at least hang so I think Higgins is gonna be there they might slide him to the wing or put him at 3c so I think he's gonna play but it's just you know what is the upside gonna be in this first full season probably not amazing and so that's that's the only reason to have him a little bit lower but I think long term and because he's a center so he takes it's gonna take longer to develop and get all do all the things so this season the point totals will probably be muted as he adjust to full-time NHLR but you never know he could get on a run and it's definitely worth keeping that name handy okay well I'm just glad to hear that you still think Higgins is good long term but yeah next season I guess it could be tricky though Boston does like kind of have an opening right like like

you said like maybe one of these other centers can go to the wing and I feel like they could use like a solid top six player at this point even though they brought in Chae-Chae a Patera like you know if you look at the top power play you pretty much have Pastor-Nack Morgan Geeky I guess you got to lock in and then I feel like yeah so what Lyslin home in Pavlsak are the next like I feel like there's openings there potentially kind of like what I was saying about Vigo Bjork maybe being able to bump a Cole Perfetti I wonder if James Higgins could if he's really good could bump like a Pavlsak or from the top power play so we'll find out all right I guess that takes us through your top nine so let's finish off with your with your 10th overall here not finish off if in shop the top 10 yeah Jacob Fowler is number 10 that's no that name isn't a surprise I think we've seen him we've seen him in the NHL I think he was good you know I I'm sure you're going to say you don't want to see it because you have Dobesh on your team I'm pretty sure I've heard you say that once you have 15 times so you know I think that the but the reality is it ultimately I think in the end Fowler is the starter long-term but I don't think that's going to happen this

year that's why he's lower it's probably going to be a bit of a you know getting close to a time share maybe next year and then Fowler takes the job and they have a one-on-one a-one b situation so it's going to evolve but Fowler is awesome and ultimately I think he wins the job but we're just not there yet so but unless if Dobesh gets injured or whatever and then Fowler takes the takes the gig then he's he's you know shoots to the top because he's that good and the Habs are good so you know he could easily put up a stellar season I hear you and yeah Fowler i landedal av analogybjudkanker. I enfitlla skrit banda ett幾f Gladis paftlyonik holdingen adventures. Lott de tre sponent 32 per 1 p風 sleeve. Janchen i hallmazing. på hospitalized van Central mechanics. Had a lot of fantasy value even when swamen was on the team in playing a lot so it doesn't necessarily mean like your screw if like the team has another good goalie And you have one of the goalies like if they play 50 50 but they're both really good. It's not the worst thing in the world Depending on your league format I guess In a category in these two dinosaur leagues where I have doveshtar categories leagues so I can take a Bit fewer games if they're gonna help me with the safer percentage All right, so let's keep going still yeah, I'm looking down yours I still see guys and I could see myself drafting in one year leagues So I guess I would probably won't draft foul or in a couple of just because what who's drafting a backup goalie

But yeah, we still have some names here that I am quite interested in so let's keep going I'm having a blast by the way Victor times going by it's like 40 minutes I feel like we just started talking I can talk to you all night. You're a busy doctor like I you're though Like I have no plans, but I'll just keep going until you you want to stop. I'm good end of the day So all good, but yeah, there are some yeah, you're right. There's some names here that probably stood still should still be drafted down the list Which is not not common, but the next guy is Ilya Protoche or Protoche and he is the younger brother of Alexei Protoche and he's I Think gonna be better than Alexei and we've seen some proof of concept with Alexei He's you know as some you know decent point potential. He had that breakout a couple seasons ago And then he was I think kind of math last season, but you know relevant anyways in fantasy the thing about Ilya is that he Bashes more than Alexei and I think he has more skill at every step in the development He put up way more points at the same age than his older brother and he's also huge I think they we saw four games of them putting the Protoche on a line with with Tom Wilson

Which I think was like 700 pounds or something crazy like that like the combined weight of the three of them is just Bunkers and they could just run over people so they only got a few games to play that way But I I could see that happening again and you know he the fact is that as you mentioned and you don't talked about Washington, I think they're gonna be really good again this year They kind of took a step back after didn't they win the division last two years ago and then they took a step back I could see them coming right back to relevance and being really good again because they have not only some of the same players that are More established, but of course they got Kyru they got you know Leonard's a couple years older they got boom Jenner You know they got the Protosses, you know they got Col Hudson talks talk yeah like just really strong names all up down the lineup So Where does Ilya fit into that maybe a little lower down the lineup? But you know if he gets on that line with his brother and Tom Wilson it could be it could be pretty great Yeah, as a team I'm really high on Washington They also have Logan Thompson who may be like among the top goalies in the league at this point

Ilya Protoss played four games had four points three of them came in one game I'm seeing was a six three win over the penguins near the end of the season where Protoss had a goal and two assists on three shots Definitely yeah, it's exciting also. I'm seeing these four games Ilya Protoss was on the top power play and all four of those games Though this was like garbage time at the end of the season It will be definitely that's a name that someone I would like to try to snag really late. I feel like You know like that gathers competition, but kind of like what I was thinking with Heleneus like maybe he's better than a lot of the competition even right off the bat So we'll see The next guy we've kind of mentioned already I guess we could dive deeper into him Roman cancerov another Chicago Blackhawk the first team to have two Calder candidates in that we've discussed Yeah, and Roman so he's he's a really interesting player because he's he's smaller But despite all that in the KGL he's been just an absolute dude. He's 59-176 But he was one of the best players on medaler when they won the championship A couple years ago and then this past season he went over a point per game with 64 points and 63 games and

And the playoffs he went down a little bit, but he had some pretty electric goals and some really you know Playoffs are tougher, but he had some moments that were pretty impressive and he's he's coming right over and the Projection at least by some people that I've seen and I would expect to is that he's gonna be top line there in Chicago You know for whatever it's worth whether he's playing with Frontel or Nazar or Bidard when he comes back, but he he is that type of player. He is a top line talent And even though he's small he's actually pretty pretty feisty so I think that's another another Feather in the cap of cancer off being able to hang in the NHL which is always a bit of a concern for For these and if I if you don't mind mentioning a little bit about my fantasy hockey life skater cars But one thing I always look at is the competitiveness and how how many puck battles they win and he's he's pretty strong in that And that's something that makes me a little bit more confident that Against men again in the KHL he was winning more battles and he was losing And I think that's something that you really have to do in the NHL especially as a smaller player which he does

Yeah, another guy was picked in the second round Like Cole Hudson so maybe jacago got a real steal there Maybe makes up for the fact they took left shooting off second overall a couple years back They got a steal in a cancer off I think in the same draft would it be 2023 So that'll be fun. Yeah, I mean if you're coming in right away to be on the top line It's like and he's done really well in the KHL So maybe you know when everyone's thinking of taking Gavin McKenna who also we were excited about their situation Maybe cancer off is coming into a similar situation Though of course not playing with Austin Matthews but hey when it's a bad artist back it could be playing with badard Which is not too far off from playing with Austin Matthews at this point potentially So yeah, definitely a good dark horse there another guy like I wouldn't wouldn't have a problem with You know sneaking late in a draft just to see how he starts the season Okay, so that's 12 down got a long list to go here So far we'll see if we get to a point where I'm like these guys are getting boring so far Yeah Sam or Riley is next and or Riley was drafted by Edmonton and Tampa traded Isaac Howard for him

Or Riley is in my opinion definitely more of a better all-around player than he is um, you know for fantasy, but he's he's back-to-back Memorial Cup champ for a reason because he's really strong in all situations The the thing the reason he's a little lower and maybe I should have even put her in lower than this is that I don't I don't think he plays That many games in the NHL he's he's straight out of junior So he probably will go to the OHL, but I mean sorry the HL But he might get some time with the Tampa Bay Lightning maybe as a as a you know Worth liner or something, but he could work his way up the lineup and we know things can change quickly in Tampa All you need to do is get on a line with you know some of their top players and and he could do that So if that's a case then that that production might go way up So this is like are we at the point now where we don't have play any players left that you're like really confident They'll be on the team for the whole season I guess you have a Sebastian Kosa later in the list To we expect to be the backup for Utah. Yeah, it's a backup goalie. There's no chance of behind Vamelka

There's no chance he's winning the Calder unless like Vamelka has a season ending injury like right at the start Um, so yeah, it's not to not have anything to say about Samo Riley, but yeah, I guess uh We'll see how interesting is you're saying that he might not even be that great for fantasy and more like a good all-around Player I mean Tampa Bay is just They've already got their guys like I don't really see like who's like a spot for someone to come in and make an offensive impact While they still have their their standard people So uh but good to know they might have another like middle six helpful person maybe the next Nick Paul Replacement or something Yeah, who all right so next up I see we've got a couple ducks coming up in the next couple that in the next couple guys next two Yeah, we could talk about them some were sorted together, but they're a little different Roger McQueen I have next and he McQueen uh as you sort of referenced earlier was was taken Was a couple years ago now I think he was around 10th and he he's he was really impressive in college and then

Kind of signed signed his pro contract and came out a little early and went to the HL Which was a little surprising, but he was really good and his limited sample size So most likely McQueen will be in the HL next season what I love about him is that he's huge He's got a huge frame six six he's physical he likes to bash towards body around the reason he's lower on this list is that he probably is in the HL This season the ducks are a pretty good team and they don't really have a perfect spot for him So most likely he's in the HL maybe he sees some games, you know, maybe like a nine or maybe a little more, but Eventually McQueen I think is the two C behind Carlson and You know is your is your basher version of Carlson with similar points upside I guess the thing with Anna Heim right now is we still don't know like the from what I'm reading They need to figure out a way to sign cutter goche and for the amount of money cutter goche is asking for they might have to move a player To move some like salary out So maybe that could open up a roster spot for a Roger McQueen or a Nikita Kleppov who you also have coming up on this list

So something to watch I wonder like how nervous people should be like if if we start our fantasy drafts on like September 10th and cutter goche isn't signed yet At what point do you just get nervous about whether to draft him or if it's going to be like a the kind of thing we miss his training camp and potentially miss his games Let's go that's just good I want Victor if it's if you don't mind You're your media. I don't know what influence you have can we just like settle the counter hella buck thing Get cutter goche sign Adam Fantilly. Let's just get those locked in If Dylan Larkin's getting moved like can we just kind of like see the it's just like I'm trying to plan for the season here These seem like pretty major things that need to be resolved So that would help maybe that would also help us decide if Roger McQueen is gonna step in Are we done by the way with worrying about Roger McQueen's back or last year It was like this guy would be like top five but his injury concerns like you know push him down like is that still a thing now It's just like more a concern of like is he really good or not That's not a concern and I was one of the people because I got some information about his back injury and one of the few times

I'm able to flex my medical knowledge in that situation and based on what I understood from the people I talked to I was not worried about him and I was telling everyone to take him And that was true because in Providence he not only was fine It didn't get injured but he threw hits at 88th percentile for the NCAA So he had no problem using his body throwing it around being physical playing the full season So no there's no concern about that of course something else random could happen But that thing that people talked about during the draft as McQueen possibly having a chronic injury lingering Gave Valarti is not something you should be concerned about But I guess the end of the day and I still did take him 10th overall I'm not sure like is there a team that is do you think thinking like oh I would have taken McQueen if I was as confident as Victor Like I don't think uh, you know Boston's taking Hagen Seattle's taking Jacob Bryan. I would think Uh, then Seattle may have taken McQueen I don't know what their situation was whether they thought differently But they may have considered him instead

That was one just because they clearly wanted a center and You know that might have been part of the calculus like um McQueen versus a Bryan no injury history Maybe maybe that tilted it for them All right, so maybe let's just talk about Kleppov now since we're on anhym Yeah, I just want to mention one thing about go to you and that is that I think that might actually be a Blessing in disguise if he falls a little bit I would be more than happy to take him because Even if as you said he misses a little bit of time Eventually if he goes somewhere or whatever he'll he'll still be as talented as he is so You might actually get a little bit of a discount on go to you and that might actually be a good thing for your team. Yeah It's tricky like in these fantasy just for these high-end guys It's like you don't get many opportunities like I'm looking at my uh tier one trap down I don't know if you heard victor. I'm gonna be picking 16th So I'm gonna have 16th 17th which I think is like too early to take cutter goché So I guess I'll have like potentially the chance at round three pick one And probably not again So it's like either kind of reach at the start around three or maybe it's not a reach

Maybe it's a fair spot stake or like not get him so if you have fun decision to make I think 31 might be okay Yeah, certainly if he's there at four if you if you miss him at three one at four one it's a steal Yeah, I agree with you 100 percent maybe maybe for a couple everyone's just too smart Maybe for like our casual leagues with our buddies I could definitely see goché falling if he's not signed and that like you're saying that's that could be a really good opportunity And also depends on if Yahoo's gonna give him like NA or oh like if you can stash them or not Let's finish off the ducks here Nikita Kleppov who they fire call correctly traded Mason McTavish for this pick for this pick and another pick specifically And I think the word from the GM was like the one of the main reasons was Kleppov was still available at this pick and they really wanted him I think was brilliant by and I'm not only picking Kleppov but also trading way McTavish who have been pretty vocal about being a very average middle six player for a long time

But Kleppov is He's a he's a home run swing. It's funny because I feel like And I'm when their draft came up they just Swung for the fences on their first three picks with Nordmark and Kleppov and Who is the third one? I'm miss remembering now. Oh that guy who Everyone says it's so good at offense, but has an attitude problem That's Nordmark. Yeah No, it's another guy also Another guy with a similar vibe I'll find it I'm gonna look it up right now Nordmark Mathis Preston Mathis Preston He's not the same in terms of the concerns as Nordmark is much more concerning Preston I think just has a few more off off-puck issues But anyways, they're all home run swings So but Kleppov is the best not only because he went first but because I think he has fewer concerns He's a he's a decent size six foot 180 pounds and he was he was really good for Sagina And scored a lot of goals almost 40 goals in the OHL

But what's interesting about him and the reason he's on this list is that he basically said He was committed to one of the NCAA schools. I can't remember which one right now And he basically revoked that and said I'm gonna make the team. I'm gonna make the NHL team And that is the plan Whether he actually will it might depend on this go-to-a situation as you're mentioning But um, you know, I think he could it maybe not the best thing for him But they might also be able to put him in the HL because they get one exception this year. So maybe that's him But he is he's a high offense guy and he if the if Kleppov gets put in the right situation He could be great But and I'm as so many other options that I kind of find that to be unlikely this early in his career So that's why I have a little bit lower but not because I don't believe in his upside because I think the upside is pretty significant for Kleppov Can I throw a name at you of a guy who is not on this list at all But I think has like a decent chance to play a lot of games maybe do something

Mm-hmm What about Albert Schmitz on the Raiders? I thought when he got drafted fifth overall They were like this guy's NHL ready like he and he looked at the Raiders and it's like he's gonna be competing with like Matthew Robertson or something for the Bottom pair Don't you think he has like a better chance than someone like a Samo Riley or a or McQueen or Kleppov to like hold a roster spot all season long Yeah, I mean Schmitz probably should be on this list The reality is that he he is gonna play in the NHL. I'm pretty confident about that this season And he's he played against he played in like seven different leagues last year several of them men's leagues He's he's an impressive young man But I don't think there's any offense there and to win the Calder you generally need offense But what there will be in leagues like the cup fall and a lot of our fantasy leagues is bash and he is a bash master He has a lot of Block shots and hits so that's something that you're gonna be able to get it just depends on whether he'll get enough Ice time because probably he's a bottom pair when he starts, you know, just to ease in

So keep an eye on him, but he certainly could be someone you round out your D with and his role could play over Play increase over the season. I just don't think he's ever gonna score enough Like more than 40 points in a season and this season in particular probably Not gonna do nearly enough to to be in serious called their considerations unless you just consider The fact that he played a lot and you know how to significant role which you know voters tend not to think about that stuff They're just like how many points did he get? Yeah fair Can I throw a comp at you which is just like a fantasy comedy? You can tell me if this is accurate or not Is this like me how how does a Schmitz compare to say? Alexander Nikkeeson who well, you know big bangers guy doesn't seem to have like a huge offensive upside But like can get you know some points here and there say any similarities are my way off Yeah, I mean Nikkeeson's bigger and less mobile, but I think that's similar Nikkeeson also had a longer track record of being good before he came over The reality the reality is that his stock has fallen significantly Nikkeeson and that's because

He really struggled to defend the rush in fact I think Carolina might be the worst situation for him because they play this fast up tempo You know pace and he really struggled with that I know this isn't what you're asking, but that's that's a no I'm interested That's a concern for for Nikkeeson long-term and I've been really high on him for a long time and I I was Shocked actually with what I saw especially in that second round series Uh, sorry third round series against Montreal and then in the final against Vegas like he looked awful And they almost had to stop playing him so you might get moved Nikkeeson But I think that's a reasonable comp in the sense that there's a decent amount of bash and But not too much in the way of scoring So I mean there's a lot of guys who are kind of like that right who are bashy without too much scoring But even like you know 30 40 points if you bash a lot is you know reasonable for a defenseman I will just point out our mutual friend Ryan Downey seems to think that shmit says more offensive upside than you do and I don't want to pick sides here except I do have shmit's

We did draft him so I am hoping that you're wrong and he's right. It's okay. Ryan can be wrong too Okay, so I guess we did skip your number 15 you had O'Reilly then McQueen then you're 15 and then Nikkeeson clap off So 15 is Victor Eklund from the islanders who I know going into last year's fantasy drafts He was being taken like top 10 even though in real life. He was like closer to 15 I think This the year that Eklund had a really good season right like he definitely did exactly what everyone thought he would do after being drafted in his D plus one Well sort of It was actually a little disappointing what he did for Jurgarn Jurgarns He helped them get promoted and his SHL production was fine wasn't like super impressive But you know the team was recently promoted to the SHL and it was a little little hard for everyone So I think you can kind of explain that away a little bit Eklund was Awesome at the world juniors helps we win when gold and then he came when he came to the HL I think that's where I would affirm what you said he was awesome in the HL 10 points and nine games and just looked like he fit in

No problem. He even got one NHL game and had an assist so I think the the point is that Eklund Victor Eklund looks absolutely ready for this opportunity And the islanders sure seem like they could use him which is also helpful. So That's that's nice and the other thing about Victor Eklund that is not true about his older brother is that Victor Eklund is very bashy So it's kind of hard especially when when William Eklund was getting going It was kind of hard to hold him because he didn't really have a lot of peripheral contributions, but Victor Eklund is has in my metrics that I count this 84th percentile for bash in the SHL Which is a really hard league so that generally suggests that he's gonna Have a pretty good contribution in those priffs and so when you're holding him at least he's not doing nothing Even if he's not scoring. So that's the that's the thing about him That's handy for sure. I look at the islanders death chart. I feel like There's a potential for Eklund to bump someone and make the team like there's some guys here that I just wonder like Are you really gonna hold an NHL spot like I know they signed Matthias Michele in the offseason?

He's I don't know. He's I've seen him get benched a lot like Anthony Duclair is still on the roster You've like Andre Palat who they traded for like at this point in his career like Do they really want to play Palat over Victor Eklund? So you know some of it is contract related, but I wonder if Eklund could maybe Make a play and also like some of these guys might be entry prone and that could be like Kyle Palmery Like is there to start but will he be able to last all season after missing so much of last season? Can I ask you about another islanders guy that's definitely not a calder candidate? But I know you've been high on calum richi for many years ever since he got drafted by Colorado I recall you thinking that like he was drafted later in the first round because he had an injury during his Draft year Last year Richie by the end of the season was playing on the top power play seem to be getting a pretty significant role and no one's really talking about him And I know I just I have a memory of you being into calum richi So do you think maybe this could be uh obviously not a calder candidate but potentially a decent sleeper for for a breakout season here? Yeah, I do I have liked him and I still do he had a rough season overall if you look at his underlying metrics

They were he struggled in all situations, but also it was it was his first you know a full season in the NHL And it was it was a little rough they did not really Um well, they did shelter him in some in some ways, but he also didn't have the best support they kind of Wanted him to do it on his own, which is a lot to ask for the young man I think he handled it as well as he could and I think there's I think there's a step or two still for calum richi to gain I think I think long term calabrichi is the second line center in in New York on the island and I think that He will hopefully have some better wingers to play with I think barzal is much better as a winger So you know if he can play with barzal and horeback continues to be the one c for a while I think that could be really good for for Richie and I think he I think he has that spot and at least with uh with some confident NHLers And so he should be able to perform quite a bit better Yeah, I mean if he can be playing with barzal that would be pretty sweet and then I guess yeah if you can hold top power play Like I said Kyle Paul Mary is back in the picture So maybe he challenges for the top power play to start the season But it seems like there's an opening there maybe until victor eclan uh overtakes him at some point

I guess we do have another islander here on your list a bit further down at number 20 coal izerman Who I definitely recall Being talked up big time in his draft year and everyone was like oh he's like the best for goal scoring Like I don't know about other stuff but like draft him in your fantasy leagues Visiting to score a ton of goals Uh do we still feel that way now about coal iserman because I don't know about you But I like I like guys who score goals on my fantasy team I like guys who score goals too and so do coaches But they also like guys who do other things besides just waiting around to score goals And that's the problem with coal iserman he doesn't He's kind of a black hole away from the puck He is actually somewhat physical He does throw the body But his even at the NCAA level even though he did have a decent amount of points in In uh at for BU this season which was not a great team But he had 28 points in 32 games Which sounds good and even did decently in the hl But coal iserman really struggles to drive play He really struggles away from the puck and in transition So I think he's gonna have a really hard time

Unless they put him in Absolutely the perfect situation and say don't worry about anything But playing you know scoring goals I think it's gonna be hard for him I mean we've seen guys like this like Daniel sprong right Like all he does is score goals Yeah but he's not even in the NHL anymore Because he doesn't do literally anything else And he never even tried to get better And iserman has really not made too many improvements in his all around game It's come a little ways but Another example will be Johnny LeCarrie Mackey Right who's Basically struggling to be a full-time NHL Or even now years later And years after knowing what he needed to do So that's kind of the concern with iserman is that He's just not gonna be able to stick on the lineup record enough minutes Because he's a liability on situations where it's not in the offensive zone and on the power play Reminds me of the guy that's St. Louis drafted Carbino The guy not in terms of like your conclusion of like I said I can't play defense but I remember last year Everyone was excited like I think you were a big like You should draft carbono because you know

NHL teams don't value him so much like for fantasy He's gonna be great because he's gonna score a lot of goals Is there similar concerns with Justin Carbino or is he trending so far a lot better than Cool iserman Yeah, what's interesting about Carbino is that his that that was somewhat of a concern He's definitely a very offensive guy But this season his point totals regress a little bit and I actually did this analysis on my I do the top ten list which I know you subscribe to Elon And when I did the St. Louis Analysis I was looking at Carbino and last season versus this season And one thing you can see is that his play driving and defensive game And transition all those like off-puck metrics are way better this season So his point totals went down slightly But his off-puck game improved so it sounds to me like Carbino Listened to what he needed to do and made some improvements He still has a ways to go but that really hasn't happened with iserman So not similar idea but I see more progress from from Carbino Okay, maybe a good guy to send a trade offer for in dynasty leagues for people who are only looking at the points

Justin Carbino, not coalizerman Alright we've got a couple of Utah mammoths and all even throw another Utah mammoths You've got Tija Ginnla, Sebastian Kosa And if I may even throw out Caleb De Noyer I have a tweet here from July that I still remember and I brought it up here if you search for Ginnla or De Noyer on gamedaytweets.com You can see the coach said so this was Armstrong or I guess he's the GM With the upside of De Noyer and Ginnla they can also filter into the top two lines Our rule for Barrett Hayden is different We haven't planted on the third line center Caleb and Tija have the ability to come in and make our team their openings So that was what they said who knows if it's like true or just building up hype But seems like there's an opportunity for Tija Ginnla and Caleb De Noyer to challenge for roster spots or to get them at some point I know they're like both guys that were drafted super high by Utah So I'd be curious to get your thoughts for next season But also just in general where are we with these two high-end Utah mammoth prospects Yeah they're both great It's interesting that Dobber lists Tija Ginnla as his second line center for their team

and he doesn't list De Noyer as getting any games Which seems strange to me Second line center, Dobber, come on Like don't they have Logan Koolie and Vincent Chocheck All right team and Nick Schmaltz Yeah I was like why isn't Koolie in the middle? Anyway that was strange But no I think that both have a very good chance of making the team dayo nay Is a little more all around kind of guy So I could see him maybe filtering in in the bottom six center role And kind of fleshing out some of that depth Ginnla I've always felt fits better as a winger And it certainly makes more sense with him having I think a little bit more scoring upside That's why I listed him here and not dayo nay Because I think Ema does have more scoring upside It certainly seems as mentioned by the GM that there's going to be an opportunity for him Neither of those guys have played in the A H L though So I think there's a very good chance that they might just need some A H L time to acclimate And that's what elite prospects list again last being in the A H L

But they're both going to come and compete for a spot in camp and I could see I could see one or maybe even both of them making it at least temporarily I don't I don't think either of them play the whole season which is why I have them a bit lower But definitely teased for the offense and dayo nay for For the bash but also for you know being a more complete player Dayo nay might have an easier time sticking if they find a role for him in the bottom six at least for now Okay, so that's for next season long term is tjaginla Like going to be a big superstar like I'm curious just getting updated take on him Like are we looking at like a point per game type of guy or has that hype gone down a little bit Yeah, so I have them at a 7.73 the way I do my ranks are you know 10 is like Conor McDavid 5 is like your average roster player so a 7 means he's well above average And has a the 73 means a 73% chance of hitting that so I think there's a very good chance He's well above average you could interpret that as like a 70 to 80 point player as well So that's what I think again look could be and it might not take that long to get there probably not this season But you know maybe in a season or two he and Utah has the talent you know to surround him to play with

So I think there's a very good chance he hits that upside Yeah, I feel like Utah is kind of to me like Washington in the Western conference Like just they all of a sudden are just like so deep and exciting and just like a team that I'm excited for like you know they brought in Vincent Choucheck like I said they also brought in Anders Lees they're getting kind of that you know Depth in the in the middle six and then these high-end guys like they already have Gunther and Koolie and Keller and Schmals And now if you throw in like a Tijaginla as an 80 point guy all of a sudden this team I don't know if not maybe next year even a couple years can be like a really big contender So we'll see and I guess maybe some of that will come down to their goalie who I guess we can talk about next Sebastian Kosa Who they traded a pick for in this draft their first drum pick so it'll be Vey Melka and Kosa I was Warning on our Schmorgholi's board episode a podcast that Brian and I did last week Tearing the goalies that maybe Vey Melka don't just assume he's gonna be the crazy volume guy that he was last year Because a lot of that may have just been because they're back of goalie was V-Tech Vannecheck who they didn't trust to play

Do you think Sebastian Kosa could be you know not steal the job but like Be the type of backup goalie where at least the starter doesn't have to be a Connor hella buck type in terms of the number of starts he gets Like he'll be good enough to play at least like you know three of every four games two of every three games Yeah, definitely. I mean he he is a high-pattery guy and he's been in the HL for years now and so That has been refining his game and he's kind of shown that he can hang he did have one NHL game two seasons ago, but he's actually improved year over year in the HL and I guess the downside is that he lost his job in the HL to Mikael Pestova and That was a big talking point and why Detroit ultimately traded him because basically someone else passed him But I think the reality is that That there wasn't really an indictment on Kosa. I don't think like he's still good and he's still performed well as a whole on the season He just had a bad stretch of a week or two at At the most inopportune time and that allowed Pestova to

To to pass him and then they also have Augustine so of course Detroit was like, you know Let's use this asset and get something better, but I don't think you should interpret any one should interpret that as Kosa is bad and I definitely agree with what you said They they need to offload Vilmoka a little bit and I and I think this is a perfect opportunity to see how Kosa does Of course the number of games are going to determine be determined on how he performs But I'm sure they'll give him some starts here and there and if he performs adequately then he'll get more More rope I I don't think he's as bad as Danacek maybe even already he might already be better so there's that but yeah I think I think if you're in a league probably not a couple But if you're in a league where it's valuable to have extra goalies who play and you have a big enough roster then you won't go sign your team. Okay cool okay can I get a quick ranking of goalie young goalies who have changed teams Sebastian Kosa then hill to be who the Leafs traded to Tampa Joseph wool Who the Leafs traded to to Philly I guess they're all coming in the next season is backups do you have one of those three that you think has the best chance of I don't know I guess it's hard because it's different like you know hill to be you may think is the best but also he has the least chance just because the starter is Andre Vasilevsky

But yeah just a yeah any thoughts on these like that's a kind of interesting we have like kind of new guy I guess Joseph wall this point isn't a new guy but I'm always interested when like a young goalie gets traded and has a new opportunity Yeah well I'm just looking at my ranks because I have these ranks for all these guys hill hill to be is definitely the best I haven't ranked eighth on my prospect goalie list but I agree with you he's probably not going to play that much but I think that you know Tampa Bay hasn't had a competent functional backup in years you know your hands and it's really not ever that and so honestly it's kind of like seems similar to what we just talked about in Utah like maybe Vasilevsky is playing so much because the back of was Jonas Johansson just like they melco played so much because the back of was VTek Vanacek maybe they would ease it down a little bit if they have a decent back up and maybe now both of these teams do And they should hey absolutely should who is the other ones you said wall and a coca I guess those ones that came to mind oh there's a guy on Boston Michael D Pietro that looks like he has the inside track to be the the back up there after having a bunch of good seasons in the a cell.

Yeah he's a really interesting one because it's gone so security he had a he was a really high pedigree guy coming out of junior and then the the sharks actually kind of ruined him they can expert him up and back when the sharks were good they put in like seven goals on him and he completely shattered his confidence I've heard people bring this game up is there do people really put so much weight into a single NHL game for like a rookie gold tender like I feel like I've heard you and cat silverman reference this game that Michael D Pietro had against the shark. Like a year in your out is like what a terrible day for him he should have just called in sick his whole career would have been different. I think it was because it was so memorable and the reality is that I remember watching that game and the conucks basically just gave up and he's like flopping around doing his best and it was like you could just see his body language like he was just broken after that game and you could tell in his game after that like he it took him years to recover from that gosh. But the reality is yeah you got to be careful with you know like they should have pulled him they should have pulled him right like the reality.

But he has really come around yes he has been great and I think also five years. It did but Boston I think learned their lesson from letting Boose go right like they he was in their system they let him go he wins a cup with Carolina we went to Florida and then go on but still they're not going to let him leave and they're going to probably give him a roll course corpus all is there but corpus all sucks so I'm sure they're going to no corpus all is gone you got to wait who's the range is there who's the bad that's it that's what I'm saying it's Michael D. P. H. O. is the back of I think is the plan there's no one else. This is by think Boston traded corpus all to the range is that they want D. P. H. O. to be the back up that's just that's how it is. Yeah for pass all will back up just joking yeah they'll actually have a fight there because Dylan Garand is a good pet agree that's another one I think he isn't waver eligible so I don't know what the Rangers are going to do that's another interesting situation they're going to wave corpus all and because no one's going to claim him.

And the like a ran play yeah that's another one that's interesting so I mean of all those you mentioned I think wall is the next best goalie but you know he's you know a blood are is probably going to get most of the starts there but I think well the problem with wall is that he's always injured but when he's not injured he's he's good so he'll be fine and the limited roll. Yes interesting how the lead so similar to Detroit right you were just saying how Detroit was able to move. A coast because they have some other good goal is the leaves against decided you know the leaves don't really have I guess they have that arc to the arm of. Yeah called her called a trophy winner. M. D. P. he's great called a cup called a cup called a cup. A cup. Different than called a trophy which is what we're talking about here we'll see how he can do that. Okay so is there anyone else here on this oh we haven't talked about the green tree on the Rangers they just got him in the a penaren trade. Yeah green trees probably not going to play I mean he might but I mean he's fine he's a. He's kind of slow and struggles to like get around but if he's kind of one of those players that if you can pair him with someone who can facilitate and get him the puck then he can score kind of is a little bit like Matthew wood you know would we saw a little bit of the season.

Green trees good. Yeah big power forward keeping scoring get to the net but kind of need someone to transport the puck and get into this home and set it up for him but once they do that he's good. Cool alright well so was that the whole list you have anyone else you want to bring up here that as a potential to be a rookie in place in games to do something. I forgot to mention was a Vitali pin chuck he's a Nashville Nashville yeah that. He's a K L signing you know with all these guys it's always really hard to tell what you know what's going to happen we've we've been doing this for years and you see you know like Shabanov and Ciplekoff or recent imports of course people remember guys like penaren and just blown the doors off I don't think pin chuck for Ronkov wrong call yeah he was good one yeah I don't think I think pin chuck is probably in the middle of those tears of guys the one thing he has a size he's not small like was it Shabanov was small. Yeah but pin chuck is decent and he scored 66 points and 65 games for Dino last season the he's going to get an opportunity we just did our interview with the Nashville.

Be right or today but he's going to get an opportunity but how much is he going to be able to. You know leverage that and get it get it get into a good position so that's the concern but you know he's definitely someone to watch I wouldn't draft him probably but. Keep him on your watch list and if he does get games and gets you know high in the lineup then he has a better gray at least playing in the K L so there's some potential. Alright so I think we've covered all the rookies that might do something next season all is a blast going through with you Victor maybe to end the show I can have one more fun question I'm looking at last year's rookies I feel like for sure drafts for next season like Matthew Schaefer is the best one there's no question about it who to you. Is the next best sophomore to draft in a one year league for next season I'll throw some options at you okay okay I've in Demadov Beckett Sennicky Jimmy Snuggorude Michael Misa those are four names that jumped out to me as like contenders and probably Misa falls off though I know Dom's Dom Shanner high on him but yeah to me it's like Demadov Sennicky and Snuggorude all seem like guys that are primed just have huge seasons and here's a few of the favorite things.

Yeah I think it's definitely between Demadov and Sennicky I think first of all they've done it for a little longer they played a little more I think their situation is a little bit more favorable as well although Misa you know if he gets on that top power players you mentioned I think that could seal the deal for him but I like Demadov I think I think Demadov has the most raw talent I am definitely concerned about who his center is because that's been a problem for him but he's also so talented that he I think can make it work. So I would say Demadov. You know I would have actually probably said Snuggorude for a night just because like he seemed so locked in to play with Thomas and Holloway on the top line and top power play and they did so well together last year while you like you said there are concerns about who Demadov will play with. Okay so put it down someone remind us when we do the show next year. Trev right? Trev. Trev put it down as our our accountability is our to let us know if it was a Demadov or Snuggorude who was the better roster player at the end of the season and then as far as the colder vote picks you picked Cole Hudson I'm going to be basic and pick Porter Marton so we'll see who's right about that one also.

Well that just means it's going to be a mechanic. Yeah well I still think it'll be front elephant's not. No I don't know. McKenna I just wonder if he's like I'd hard to not just take someone who's like already shown he's done stuff but yeah McKenna isn't a really good spot it's going to be. I'm excited man I just want to start the season I want to see where McKenna plays I want to see where all these guys but even like I don't even need to watch hockey I just want to just give me some lines and that'll be enough to feed me for a couple of weeks to be something to dive into here but yeah thanks again for coming on thanks everyone for listening to this episode like I said we recorded this Monday August 31st I'm not exactly sure when we're releasing I'm kind of just getting a bunch of shows bank tier so that we can release them over the next few weeks but definitely if you haven't registered for the keeping Carl's and ultra-patre fans you think there's a decent chance you can still get in so just check out couple dot com KUPL dot com also of course Victor what am I doing and blabbing about my stuff you're the esteemed guest here why don't you tell people about all the amazing work you're doing at fantasy hockey life.

Yeah thanks so if you're just getting back from summer and haven't paid as much attention to hockey feel free to go back and listen to we did we just finished our second to last guest interview we completed we're going to complete all 32 teams going through the main roster and the prospects and the goalies so definitely you can go back and check all that out and we'll be doing a sort of catch up episode at the end where we talk about players that have moved and things like that but yeah check all that out and you can also if you're interested in some of the things you can do. All that out and you can also if you're interested in some of the ranks and player cards that I referenced where you can look at, you know, who does have bash, who's good at, you know, play driving, who's good at puck battles, transition, all that, you can get access to my fantasy hockey life skater cards if you go over to patreon.com slash fantasy hockey life. Yeah, I mean, I don't really even know like another place to go to find like who the hits of like, you know, abilities of some of these prospects aside from looking at your cards. So it's definitely a great resource. I definitely recommend people check it out. Like I said, thanks everyone for listening. If this is like, you know, your first, uh, keeping Carl's an episode of the, you know,
