• A man has been arrested for the fires in Eastern Washington. He is 37-year-old Aaron Farinacci, and he pleaded guilty in 2012 in Arizona to manslaughter and aggravated assault after initially being charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father.
• A convicted killer allegedly shot two men, killing one, less than two hours after he was released from a North Carolina jail on bond last week.
• The Kentucky father whose 6-year-old son was stabbed to death while sleeping says the man found not guilty by reason of insanity in the killing received "a slap on the wrist" after being released from prison July 29 upon completing his sentence for assaulting three surviving family members.
• Two parents in New York state who pleaded guilty to starving their baby to death will receive no jail time after a guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter.
• Abdul El-Sayed is poised to beat establishment Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI).
• Michigan’s attorney general said she won’t attend next month’s Democratic primary convention over fears of antisemitism.
