NFL Players Unanimously Elect J.C. Tretter as New Leader

All 32 player representatives from every NFL team have unanimously elected former Cleveland Brown Center, JC Treter, as the new executive. Director of the NFL Players Association, the group announced the decision on Tuesday, filling a leadership vacancy that started back in July. The search process narrowed down more than 300 candidates to just three finalists, including Treter, Tim Pranetti, and Interim Leader David, White. Treter steps back into a top role after serving as NFLPA president starting in March 2020 while still playing, and more recently as Chief, Strategy Officer until last month. Players favor Treter because of his background as a former NFL starter, who studied labor relations in college at Cornell. He played nine seasons, mostly with the Browns after starting with Green Bay, and helped shape the current collective bargaining agreement during the pandemic.

1:00The NFLPA praised the thorough process for picking a long-term leader to drive progress for members. Treter brings experience from his time, advocating for players on and off the field, looking ahead the current deal runs through 2030, but big talks loom over adding an 18th regular season game and requiring every team to play an international match-up each year.
