7News Just In — NFL fever grips Melbourne for historic game. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Good afternoon. First at 4, Melbourne has come to life this afternoon with NFL fever taking over the city. The LA Rams touched down in Tullamore this morning, barely 24 hours before kickoff at the MCG. The 49ers have been here for almost a week, making Melbourne their second home and adopting new fans. We have special live coverage throughout the hour. First is Molina Saras. The LA Rams are just about to hold their first and only practice session here at Marvel Stadium behind me. They touched down just a short time ago arriving in Melbourne at 6 o'clock this morning, a little over 24 hours before they're game at the MCG on Friday. It was a tightly timed travel plan, but we've spoken to one of the players on board who said it was a comfortable flight and they managed to get some sleep. Jack Bommister from Bendigo, who is a Rams punter, is backing the team's process.
It's really interesting. It is, yeah. Was there a lot of talk about that amongst the team? There's been a lot of talk about over here. I don't think there was that much. I think like they just like we're going to back our sports science guys and just go with it. At the end of the day, like once the whistle blows, the adrenaline's always going to kick in, so it doesn't really matter how tired you are. So we'll see, I guess we'll see what happens. It's a very different travel tactic to the 49ers who flew in last Friday. They've spent the week training and exploring the city and their fans have set up home base at Transport Bar at Federation Square. There will be 100,000 fans at the MCG tomorrow to watch the historic NFL game and thousands more across the city who had followed the teams here. I mean, it was a track. This is definitely the longest star family has ever traveled for an inner game. We travel in the states quite a bit to follow them, but this was a real special occasion for us. So my father and I had a tradition of going to the first game of every season because it
aligned with his birthday. He passed away unexpectedly in February on Valentine's Day. And so to honor him, we brought mom out and the rest of the family and we're going to celebrate him and celebrate his birthday this week. We're the faithful. We ride deep with this team. They've got a lot of heart, right? I think the lineup is a tough one that stack up against this Rams team, but we're super excited and we're hoping for some good football. All eyes are now firmly on Melbourne as the city prepares to host Australia's first NFL game. Kick off is at 10.30 tomorrow morning.
