We're here on the ground at the MCG in bathing sunlight. This crowd is starting to fill in. Caning King will come back to you at the poolman in just a second. But I'm here. Jordan can help us on the field with NFL Commissioner Roger Gidell. Roger, good morning. It's great to have you. Good morning. On ESPN. Firstly, how have you found the day so far? And what has been an impressive display of NFL fandom here in Australia? Well, seeing the sun come up over your shoulder and over the stadium is a pretty cool look for us. And one of the things I tell everybody back in the States is that you've never seen greater fans and lovers of sports in Australia.
And the fact that we have 100,000 people coming here at 10,30 in the morning on the Friday is really a strong indication of that. And it's just been great. The hospitality, the interest. It's just really been a wonderful experience for all of us, including our players and teams. What has been unique about Melbourne and the way that Melbourneians and Australians have embraced the game compared to what you've seen in other international cities? I think they're a love of sport. I think they have a tremendous love of sports in general. But the game I think is really something to centrate them. They're interested, they're curious. And hopefully we're going to give them a show today to give them a little better flavor when they get to watch it. Because this is live, this is real. This game counts for both teams. Has it surprised you how much the fandom has been around Melbourne and what you've seen throughout the city and the wakelating up? No, because we could tell that passion they had, but I would say this.
As much as we've played international games, I don't think we've ever seen a more passionate group. And a group that wants to just experience every aspect of it. And that's so exciting for us. And we see it with the fans, we see it with our partners, we see it with everybody. And I think that's something that we'll build off here. What have you made of the players and the way that the teams have approached the wake? And the different flight strategies, the 49ers who have been here all wake and the Rams who have just flown in yesterday? Do you appreciate, as the commissioner, what the 49ers have done in the wake leading up and how they've got involved in the Melbourne community? Yeah, I think it listens great when you can come here and actually experience what it's like to be in here in Austria. And other stories I'm hearing is that they've loved their opportunity to be here. They've been going out and drinking the coffee, they've been going out and drinking the beer, I'm sure. But they've been now having a real Austrian experience. And I think that's a great aspect of this. And the Rams are looking at this as a business trip.
They're coming in ready to play. We'll see how it goes. It's a great rivalry. So I don't think it's going to be a difference maker at the end of the day. But it's interesting to see the different approaches. How have you found Melbourne personally? Have you indulged yourself in Melbourne community and culture? I have. You know, I've only been here for three days on this trip. But this is my third trip in the last five months. And brought my family over for a family vacation in between. And I just loved it. There's so much to engage in. There's so much to be proud of. The people here are just incredibly warm. So we look forward to coming back a lot. Both as a family and as an NFL. What is the future of NFL football look like in Australia? From both the professional game and also how the game is growing through Flag Football, too? Yeah, we're really excited about the flag game. The flag is a global game. It's different than our form of the game. It's much more accessible. And the great thing about it is young men and women, boys and girls, good opportunity to play.
And they're getting the opportunity to play something that I think will teach some different values about sport. And which is what I think people here appreciate about sports. So I think it's going to be a big part of our future growth. I think that for us, we're going to continue to bring our game in with our partners from the media side as well as a play more games here. We're not, this is not a one and done for us. We'll be back. As for what's going to happen on the field today between the 49ers and the Rams, what would be the best possible outcome today to finish the week off on the right note? Well, I think the whole show is going to be important. I think one of the things that we take repriding is respecting the country we're playing here. When you see the anthem and you see the birth of our flags out on that field, the Australian flag and the American flag. And you see the anthem is a point of pride for us. And then the game itself, having a good competitive game, a safe game. And everybody has a wonderful time. That's ultimately what we're looking forward to. Will it always be the MCG in the future?
It's a, this is iconic stadium. So playing here is an honor. But we do have a lot of interest in other markets. And we'll see. We'll see how that works out. I think we want to get through this game. Roger Gidell, thank you very much for joining us on SCN and enjoy the day. Thank you. I appreciate it. And I felt Commissioner Roger Gidell with us here on SCN. We'll go to a break and come back with more from the MCG after this. Nationwide is so much more than a great insurance company. They're one of America's largest financial services companies.
