7News Just In — NFL comes to the MCG for historic game. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Katie, 40 fans already getting started there. Oh my gosh, the vibes are electric so early in the morning and we have seen the Rams touch down in Melbourne. They're getting the police escort to where they will be staying. They're going to have a run through. They're going to see the MCG then train at Marvel Stadium. And my gosh, I have showed off Rams house at his free. So if you're not lucky enough to have a ticket at the MCG, get down here. It's outside crowd. I have found my LA Rams on the floating football field. So this is what was created. It came down the Yarra River and these guys are adjusting to our time zone. But they've actually told me already that they're disappointed they haven't seen any kangaroos and koalas. So, okay, tell me a bit about this fanfare. What is surprised you most about Australia? What are you loving? Oh, it's been awesome. I didn't expect it to be such a sports town, man. I was feeling people are amazing. Melbourne's been great. They're totally embracing us and we love it.
We really do. Oh, love hearing that. You know what? I'm embracing LA Rams. You've got an Aussie fan here now. I'm going to keep this Jagger forever. And Matthew Stafford, the NFL MVP is the one that we need to watch, right? If we're teaching any Aussies about anything. Yes, he's the MVP. We also have the defensive player of the year. Miles Garrett. The Rams are Hollywood. We're big time. We do everything the biggest and best possible. You made a great choice being a Rams fan. Thank you so much. Josh! I love it already. I could really adjust. Oh, I am a seasick, guys. How good. Speaking of Bobby, Andrew McCallmac is right there at the center of it all, Macca. Just take it through. How good the G's looking at the moment. The showbo come with me as we go up the player's race out onto the MCG. Broccoli, Matthew Stafford, Miles Garrett, Pouke and Achoa, George Kittle, Debo Samuel, they're all going to be coming out. This is the view they are going to get. Have a look at the MCG. Think of the history of this ground.
173 years we've had test matches, AFL Grand Final, state of origins, cricket well cups. It has never Olympic games. Yes, showbo. Of course, 1956, actually, we forget that. But it has never looked like this. And there was fears that the NFL Grand might look like a bit of a postage champ because it's so much smaller than even a rugby league or rugby union field. It's only about the size of the center square, really, in terms of width and 110 metres long, but it looks absolutely fantastic. They've got the LED screens around the side. You'll have both teams on the ground. You're probably going to have over 200 people on the ground, coaches, staff, media people, medical people. They're brought an X-ray machine in underneath the MCG. There's no parking underneath the G. It's all offices. They've completely transformed the ground. The locker rooms. So in these two, this is usually where the AFL teams are. They'll have one room each underneath the Melbourne career club here. But they've actually had to split them up because of the size. So both the change rooms in that stand are for the Rams. Both the change rooms in the Southern stand, the Shane Warnstand are for the Rams.
So for the 49ers, rather, the away team. So it is absolutely incredible. It is impeccable. How good they have done. And it is all ready to go. It's nice and quiet now. There's not too many people in here at the moment, but there's going to be 100,000 screaming fans. And the gates open at 7am at this time tomorrow. Fans will be streaming into the G. This is quite the moment. Last year, the opening game for the 49ers alone got 18 million fans watching in the US alone. So around the world, you're talking between 20, 30 million people watching this game. It's phenomenal. Yeah, because it's not as spectable. It's a part of the actual yet. Yeah, it's a sporting moment in history.
