Newton Heath Regeneration: Boosting High Street & Community

The vision focuses on boosting the high street, with new investments, affordable homes, including social rent options, expanded health and community, services, and a fresh public square for local gatherings. This comes as part of a broader city-wide high street program, already underway in areas like Gordon, Moston, Widdington, and Withencha. Council leaders champion the plan with input from residents and local representatives, building on recent housing projects and government funding. Local shelves strong support during consultations, with over 600 responses, 90% from nearby residents. They praise the area's independent shops, community vibe, good transport links, library and green spaces, while calling for cleaner streets safer, crossings, better traffic flow, and more youth facilities. Key opportunities include new homes across six sites, like Oldham Road and Canal-side spots, upgrades to Old Church Street with better lighting, and pedestrian safety, a vibrant silk square with play areas, and enhancements to the Rochdale Canal Topath.
