On this wrestling news video, we've got the real reason AW signed Ronda Rousey, notes on WWE's booking of Randy Orton, Brit Baker on her non-appearance revolution, and the

3:09wrestler who missed out on AW Revolution at the very last minute. Amanda H. Murray, the H stands for Hell Kind of Time A Day Is This. To be doing a wrestling news video, but the story's out there, so let's talk about them. The first one we're going to discuss here is Ronda Rousey. So she debuted on last night's AW Revolution 2026 paper review, huge surprise we spoke a little bit about the impact of it and everything else on the morning video, so you can check that out there. But Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has offered just a little bit of insight into why the former WWE and UFC star is in AW in the first place. And what he says is not exactly mind blowing or anything along those lines, but it does make sense, and it does align with why he would use Ronda Rousey in big 26. Here's what Dave had to say on Observer Radio. It's good for them, AW to have a strategic alliance with her, because in the real world, whether wrestling fans like her or not in the real world her name carries a lot of weight.

4:09If you don't think so, ticket sales for the fight answer your question about is she a draw. She's a draw right now, and even if she wasn't with TV executives, her name carries a lot of weight. So he is, of course, referring to the upcoming MMA fights between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Two people who haven't fought MMA in freaking ages, Gina more so than Ronda, who was in the UFC a bit more recently than Gina was in strike force, which doesn't even exist anymore. So that gives you an impression of how long it's been. But yeah, you talk about the ticket sales to that fight, which have seemingly been strong. It's in May, it's on Netflix, all of that stuff. And it does answer the question of why AW has brought to bring her in, presumably to be a draw. Now, we won't know what that'll mean for a W's bottom line, until we get to the stage where Ronda's booked on television, and we can see if ratings go up, or if ticket sales go up after the announcement, that's the fairest way to judge these things. Obviously, her debut was a big surprise, so you're not going to get a flood of, I mean,

5:12the show was sold out first of all, so you're not going to get any more people in that building. But you're also not going to hear about pay per view by a base off Ronda's appearance, because it wasn't announced in advance, therefore it couldn't really be a draw. It was a surprise. That's always the trade off. And it was a good start, but I didn't see this coming at all. It was like a proper old school wrestling surprise, before I even knew what the internet was, which was very young in my fandom. So it's, yeah, one of those ones that just came completely out of nowhere, although she has been quite critical of TKO, WWE's ownership group, specifically in how they run the UFC recently. So maybe not that huge of a surprise after all, but yeah, Ronda's not the most universally popular figure in wrestling. She's said some controversial stuff over the years that people have understandably taken a bit of upset with. And I think that's fair. People are entitled to their stances and all of that stuff. But it does make the question of why they would use her a little bit more pronounced, and Dave seems to have been a part of my stumbling over my own sentences.

6:14Dave seems to have attempted at least to answer the question there. They think she's going to be a draw for the promotion. She's a heal and she got booed on the show, which is sometimes a bit refreshing in 2026. Hey, the thing we're just about to talk about now is a situation where the crowd reactions don't align. So to actually see a heal earnestly getting geared is nice and it's not just, oh my gosh, what a moment. I have witnessed a moment to debut in a, no, man, she's a heal. She's going after Tony Storm. She's hanging out with Marina Shefear. She's probably in the deafwriters. That's weird, isn't it? Ronda Ryzee in our wrestling stable with Wheeler Yuta. I love it, foe. It's good stuff. Weird. Weird group of people. Deafwriters. Anyway, let's talk now about Randy Orton and his booking in WWE, which I think is pretty interesting. I mean, look, the big angle on this week's episode of SmackDown was executed super well. I mean, it's not often you see such a one-ton bloodbath in WWE, I'm talking about Randy Orton turning on Cody Rhodes ahead of the WrestleMania match to give it a bit of juice.

7:16But the thing about that angle was that while the fiction may have been really good, and I enjoyed it. The crowd cheered this man. I just bludgeoned Cody, beat him up, he busted him open, and the cheer, they cheered it. They cheered it. It was a bit of an old school like 2019 WWE kind of crowd reaction rather than the ones we've become accustomed to over the years and the years and the years. Now, the thing about this is that WWE is actually expecting him to get cheered at WrestleMania as well. So this is Dave again on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying that everybody, including WWE, expects Randy to be cheered against Cody and media. So the heal is going to get cheered and the babyface is presumably going to get booed, I guess. I'm not sure. He did note that WWE really wanted Randy to be the heal, and his take on it is that fans appreciate him too much as a veteran to take him as a heal, even for his opinion, his best role. I would agree with him on that. WWE apparently wanted to put some conflict into the feud rather than just doing babyface

8:18versus babyface, and apparently, even for the could've done face versus face at Mania and then just on the turn afterwards, they wanted to do the turn now. So that's kind of why this happened, and it's interesting to note that even they think Randy's going to get cheered at Mania, it's one of those things where it's difficult to criticize the ex because the angle was awesome, it was really effective and really well done. And yeah, again, seeing that level of crimson on WWE TV is always shocking, that's why they use it so sparingly, that's their approach, it's a PG product, all of that stuff. So when you do see it, you're like, oh, this is a subversion, I shouldn't be seeing this on my fed, but they did it and it worked really well. So yeah, you can't really go into the performance, having the performance was really huge, can't criticize it at all, but the reaction does knock it a little bit out of loop, it would be nice if we lived in the world where everything just aligned in the crowd cheered the goodies and booed the baddies, but it seems like we've kind of slipped away from that a little

9:22bit when it comes to this angle, and look, Randy's a freaking awesome heal, but if I'm going to a wrestling show, I'm booing the heal, I'm booing, I'm not cheering for the heal, it's like evolution, Naomi cashed in, great, she's awesome, good for her, but she's also a heal on a TV show, that's a heal move, running in on this match that was very physically exhaustive and taking advantage and all that stuff, so I feel like we've lost a real little bit sometimes when it comes to the face and the heal stuff, I know some people think this stuff's outdated, I completely disagree, I think wrestling at its core is a good guy versus bad guy story, baby, now there's obviously lots of different variations and different twists on that, but if we haven't got that, what do we actually have, everyone dances and shades of gray, nobody stands out, so hey, we'll see what happens, I don't know, maybe, what is an act around the art and could do that, we saw dastardly people would have to boo this man, kick Pharaoh perhaps, I'm not endorsing that by the way, that's animal cruelty, but what would you have to do, what would you have to do to get jeered? She was, I don't want to say conspicuous by her absence on last night's revolution because she's been away from AW for a long time. But there was like 400 returns and debuts on that show. From Ronda Rousey debuting to Kenny Omega, to Copen Christian, to Will Osprey, Brit was not one of them. Somebody posed the question of what's going on here on Twitter saying that we've had a bunch of returns and debuts after four different matches. But when there's a return staring us in the face, we don't get it. Brit Baker come home. Brit quoted this and said, not up to me on X, the everthing app or whatever they call it. I don't know. Interesting quip for sure. Her last match with AW was in November 2024, which feels like a lifetime ago.

14:34And if you recall, at the time she was accosted, confronted whatever by Serena Deep afterwards, Brit said nobody cares. And the match never ended up happening. So yeah, total head scratcher of a situation nobody really seems to know what's going on with Brit. She's just not being booked by the promotion. A lot of speculation on her future, obviously, but it might be one of those situations where they can add time on because she's not being being used. But then does that apply if they're just choosing that to use her rather than being a whole who knows who knows. It's complicated. I think like she for years has been under a lot of scrutiny and stuff like that. So I think the best thing to do is just hold her hands up and go, no idea what's going on, right? Unless you're some kind of scoop, scoopsman with insider info, which I can assure you, I am definitely not that. So look, she was a very, very important figure for this promotion, particularly after turning heel early on in her in her run. And she came back from a very like difficult injury and a face just an immense amount of

15:36criticism for some of the performances after that, which you know, sometimes went a little bit beyond the pale in my opinion. You gotta give people a bit of leeway when they're out for a long time. They're maybe not going to be as good as, you know, their peak for the first while. So you've got to let them go through the motions a little bit, shake off the rust and all that stuff. So look, I still like Brit Baker and now let's just see what happens. Let's see if she's back in the, it almost had the Fed. The dub is that what the kids call you? The dub? No, we need a better name than that. Don't be the Fed. The Fed is like, Fed's perfect because it's kind of mocking, but also kind of fun. We need one of those for eight years off. But yeah, cool. We'll see if Brit Baker shows up anytime in the future. And finally, let's talk about an A.W. wrestler who actually missed out on Revolution at the very last minute last night. That man was hook. He was too busy recruiting for the ops. That's not the story at all. But according to Brian Alvarez, he was not medically, not bet, bet, I've done that twice now. She'd probably do a retake. No, we roll through.

16:36Hook was not medically cleared to compete at Revolution. He was apparently scheduled to be in the blackjack battle royal, but he was not cleared at the very last minute. So presumably somebody took a look at him before the show and went, no, you're not in this match. The blackjack battle royal was interesting because at least up until Saturday, they don't only announce free people like Ricochet and Jack Perry and forget who else because my brain don't work. So most of them were kind of surprises unless you'd been following the rumor line and stuff like that. I know that Hook is expected to be fine, kind of Brian Alvarez, but there's no word on exactly what kind of injury he has. It was clearly enough to keep him off the show last night, which is a shame. They're running this angle at the moment while Samoa Joe is away, where Hook and his cameraman, Shibata, are recruiting for members for the ops and Shibata is doing stuff internationally and holding a camera, a weird roll for him, but kind of fun.

17:38And Hook has been being wooed by Anthony Bowens, who would like to join the group. So we'll see what happens with that. I think when Samoa Joe comes back to AW, that'll be an interesting development and wrinkle in this. Well, they take Bowens in, Bowens obviously had the kind of babyface thrust after the acclaimed split and feud with Max Caster, they've kind of come back together a little bit now. He's had quite a turbulent turbulence, not really the word because that would suggest like freaking up and down like a yo-yo, but he's maybe not as gone as well as he might have hoped, the past year or so in AEW, which is a shame, because he's a very likable guy and a very talented guy. So hey, we'll see if he slides into the ops or wherever the heck else happens with this. But there you go, bit of an update on Rando Rousey, a bunch of other stuff, Randy Orton, Cheers, Bruce, Brit Baker, everything in between.
