And for good reason, it has been absolutely fantastic to watch this year in the Red Sox. Themselves have been all over the WBC. I mean, guys have been unbelievably impressive. Right now, my eyes are back in Red Sox. Can't because just a couple of hours ago, the Boston Red Sox made their first. I would say pretty significant roster moves coming into the 2026 season, moves, cuts, demotions, whatever

3:15you want to call it. And the reason that this is so significant is because it starts and initiates the beginning of the Red Sox dwindling down this roster to what it's going to look like come opening day. So what I figured we do into days videos go over the first Red Sox roster moves of the 2026 season. Talk about what they mean, what to expect from these guys and obviously, how it impacts 2026. Now, I always like to start these videos off by just sort of clarifying that by roster cuts, I'm not saying that these guys were completely taken away from the Boston Red Sox. It would just simply demoted down to AAA. It's sort of like, I don't know, AAU baseball team, where it's like team A, team B, team C where you get out, you're not team A, but you're on team B or C. I just want to make that clear because every year I get a question that's like, well, where do these guys go? They just go down to minor league baseball. Now, we could actually get into the full cuts here with starting with in my opinion, probably the most notable name on this list that was cut from the Boston Red Sox and that is Jake Bennett. Obviously, the guy that Red Sox traded for

4:17from the Nationals this off season for the Whisper Relays. And honestly, it makes a ton of sense to me why he was cut. To be honest with you, a lot of these, most of these, all of these aren't entirely like shocking, oh my god, I can't believe the Red Sox cut this guy right. So first round of cuts. I don't know if you were expecting major, major major cuts here, but regardless, the reason the Red Sox cut Jake Bennett for a couple of reasons. One, he hasn't really spent a ton of time in higher level baseball, right? He got to AA last year, but that was kind of about it, struggled a little bit in terms of some underlying things in AA. I think it would have been pretty impressive the Red Sox could have gotten him to majorly ready over the course of half an off season in this organization and a couple of games in spring training. The other reason too is because the Red Sox want to try and stretch him out as a starter. Now, if the Red Sox set there and they said, hey, wait a second, maybe we could use this guy as a left-handed reliever. I think a lot of people would have kind of considered the idea that the Red Sox may push him into an opening day roster spots. The issue is they're not going to end up doing that. Still, this is a guy who made pretty

5:17big noise in the small time he was in camp, right? I mean, Andrew Bailey talked about him and absolutely loved this guy. He's added a couple of miles an hour on his regular velocity, which really start to spark the interest in just about everybody because all of a sudden you start to see that potential come through a bit. You had other people on this team in terms of other prospects and other players saying that Jake Bennett was a guy to look out for. Mikey Romero and our interview this off season talked about Jake Bennett being a guy to look out for here. So definitely a name to pay attention to. I think you kind of look at what he could end up doing in the minor league season. I think the big thing to be paying attention to for that is going to end up being his strikeout rate. In college and in some of his early minor league systems here, he was really great at getting some swing and mess. As he got higher into the minor league system, that swing and mess really tended to dip down. And it was again, a big reason why what we're talking about here is him just simply not being polished enough for Major League Baseball. So that's the thing to pay attention to. But overall, Jake Bennett again, a guy who made a name for himself early on the spring,

Honestly, there's quite a few pictures on this list, which makes sense because especially in spring training, you don't want to hurt your pictures early on by overthrowing them.

8:25You have a ton of these kind of pictures where you knew they were never really going to make the team, but you had to hold on to them on the big league roster, just to ensure that the other guys who were weren't going to blow on out their elbow on March 3rd or whatever, because that would be kind of worst case scenario here. But going through this list a little bit, there are a couple of names like Osvaldo Bereos and Vinnie Natoli who were optioned down, which if you don't recognize those names, I don't blame you. Even if you were paying incredibly close attention to the Red Sox Spring training so far, you probably don't recognize those guys. And that's mostly because they were injured coming into camp and haven't played a single inning for the Boston Red Sox this spring. With a bigger injury in my opinion is Vinnie, who is either getting Tommy John or internal brace surgery, he hasn't really decided yet, so he's definitively going to be out for a while. I honestly don't know what Bereos is dealing with. I know that's my job to try and inform you guys here, but I can't find anything outside of the fact that he's been sidelined early on this spring, and just simply hasn't made an appearance for the Boston Red Sox. I'd imagine it's probably something relatively minor, right? Because I feel like if it was a major injury, we would have

9:29heard about it even if he was the guy who wasn't going to make the Sox because we heard about Vinnie's, I don't know. We don't have really any information on him at all. Also, speaking of not really have any information on him, I feel like I should also add Hobby Harris into this list as well in terms of guys you just haven't seen so far this spring. This could be a little bit more of a recognizable name for some of you guys. If you pay attention to Worcester, he was down there for quite a bit last season. Didn't look exceptionally great last year. Again, another guy who has not had an inning in spring training because of an undisclosed injury that I can't figure out what the heck it is. I'm sure it's out there somewhere very deep in an article about some random other thing in spring training, but I literally cannot find why these guys are injured. But regardless, make sense of these guys were in the first round of cut. If the Red Sox was sitting there going, hey, wait a second, we got to trim some fat here. We got to start cutting down this roster. The easiest place to start would be with the guys that aren't playing on this team currently right now. So yeah, these guys make sense. The other two pitcher names that were on this list were Devon Sweet,

10:30and Jeremy Wu Yellen. Devon is the first name I'm going to talk about as just simply not playing well enough to put themselves in a position to make the team. He only had a few outings here, but those few outings when I think as poorly as you could possibly have, he allowed three home runs, nine hits, and four walks in just three innings of work here. That probably isn't going to get you on any team in Major League Baseball, right? And again, as the Red Sox kind of initial options, obviously you're going to take the worst performing players, you're going to say, okay, you were going to make the team, and now you're definitely not going to make the team. So welcome into the minor league system, Devon Sweet. Jeremy Wu Yellened, again, another guy who I just think kind of didn't really perform this spring training. I guess a little bit better. It was four earned runs, three walks, and four hits batsmen in just three and two thirds innings, but I will say despite the poor performance this spring against small sample size here, him just simply being in Major League camp kind of opened my eyes a little bit to a guy that I'm paying attention to this season in the minor league system, especially as we get deeper into the season and kind of need these sort of,

11:33you know, last roster spot bullpen guys get start to get cycled in and out. Last season, he had a 3.15 ERA in 45-ish relief innings with a 1.073 whip and a 14 strikeouts per nine. Yeah, if something goes poorly here and the Red Sox continue to develop that arm and get him into AAA, which he hasn't had much experience in so far, it could be a name to watch despite the fact that he kind of stunk it up this spring. On the position player side of things, the Red Sox decided to start with thinning out their catching group a little bit and both the position player names that got option were Nate Baez and Ronald Rosario. Again, both catchers just if you couldn't catch that clarification earlier. Honestly, again, these guys were not making the Red Sox coming out of 2026, right? It just, they were in different positions, but ultimately they just weren't MLB ready. Nate Baez looked fairly good in the two games he got in Vigley camp here, but he has about half a season in AA where he struggled last year. He's brand new to the Red Sox organization. He hasn't touched AAA yet. The Red Sox are definitely going to want to get him some seasoning, not only in the Red

12:37Sox organization, but just to mind a league baseball in general before they start to even consider him for a major league roster spot. But again, much like Jeremy Wu, just simply seeing his name once in a while in a Red Sox uniform, has he sit there and go, well, wait a second, who is this guy and what could his impact be? And I sit there with Nate. He was traded over this off season from the twins. He's a guy who, you know, has a really intriguing bat, I think, despite the fact that he struggled in AA last year and who's a great defensive catcher as well. You know, as he starts to get into AAA and he starts to push through by the end of the 2026 season, I feel like this is a name we're going to be talking about a little bit in terms of he's not on top 100 guys. Sound like a top 10 prospect for the Red Sox, but so many sit there and go, huh, I wonder if he could potentially end up being a little bit of a platoon option for Carlos Narvaya's over the next couple of seasons. Kind of hinting at tomorrow's video, kind of an more interesting scenario that I think we initially thought it was going to be. Something to pay attention to over the these next couple of weeks is spring training because it doesn't sound like this might just be Connor Wong's job to lose.

13:38It sounds like there might be a legitimate competition. Now, the other catcher that I mentioned again is Ronald Rosario. Yeah, this guy was definitively not making the team. He got into just one big league game this camp. He also hasn't touched AAA and really struggled offensively last year in AA where he's kind of been struggling at the plate throughout his professional career. I mean, I would have been shocked. Um, founded, I don't know, given up on my red ability to read this Red Sox team had he had any potential opportunity to make the big league club, but those are your position players. Overall, I'm not going to sit here pretend like this is major, you know, world-altering, lineup changing, timeline differentiating news here for the boss in Red Sox. Again, I would be relatively surprised if anyone out there truly recognized or could pick out all of these guys outside at Jake Bennett, just like simply from a picture in the dugout of spring training, not even considering how they could play and who they could be with the Red Sox this season, but I do think this is important news mostly because it is an important indication that things

14:43are going to start to pick up for Red Sox and camp here. This is the, this is the start, right? This is the beginning of the Red Sox. Take it a look at the roster figure now. Okay, who's the fat on this team? Who's the meat of this team? How do we trim away the fat and start to get to this, you know, nice brisket coveted in 2026? I got distracted with the meat thing, okay? But as we start to get through this week, as we start to get through next week, these names are going to start to get more and more interesting, start to get more and more recognizable, start to get more and more impactful and you're going to start to see the Red Sox making some tough decisions. I think specifically the places we are looking at right now is the bullpen, the rotation, and the backup, catch a roll. Obviously, the Marcelo thing is also front and center, but that's going to be one that gets figured out fairly quickly. Outscore is saying that Friday, we are going to get an answer as to potentially where Marcelo Meyer is playing. We're definitely getting where Durban's playing on Friday. If it's anywhere but third base, I'm going to be pretty surprised, but regardless, now what we're talking about today, let me know in the comments section down below. What do you guys think?
