Newark Police Arrest Shoplifters, Suspect Confesses

0:00On March 7, police in Newark arrested five people linked to a wave of shop thefts at the Northgate Retail Park. Plan closed officers made the first catches on March 1, while patrolling the area on bikes. They spotted one suspect in the store car park and followed him inside, where he tried to walk out with 11 packs of butter. Right after handling that arrest, they got word of handbags and laundry items stolen nearby and rounded up a group with the goods. Three suspects now face charges in court. A 43-year-old man and 45-year-old woman from Donkaster, plus a 44-year-old with no fixed address, all got bail with. Conditions for hearings on March 17 and 19. The next day, officers checked CCTV from four more thefts and nabbed a 37-year-old man at a connected property. He admitted taking chocolates, laundry products, and pork pies from local shops between February 21 and March 2. He appeared in court on March 3 and received a four-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
