New Train Link to London for Shropshire

0:00On March 3rd, Shropshire hasn't had a direct train to London in years. The last service ended in 2024, due to low ridership, following another cutoff back in 2011. Now, a new bid from Rexham, Shropshire, and Midlands Railway, aims to bring back daily links with three trains each way, possibly growing to four. Later, the company, backed by Real Giant Alston, first proposed five trains daily, but scaled back after regulators raised congestion worries. Their updated plan adds a stop at Wellington in Shropshire to better connect local towns. Local leaders like MP Julia Buckley have rallied support, delivering a petition to Downing Street. Businesses say the gap hurts growth, making Shropshire the only English county without this vital link. Rail officials and chambers of commerce back the push, citing rising demand post-pandemic. Meanwhile, upgrades are in the works too. Shoesbury Station could get a redesign with a plaza, better bus ties, and more parking.
