New Suburb Bays West: Sydney's Urban Revival

0:00From Sydney, this is your March 2nd update. The New South Wales government has greenlit a massive new housing project called, Bayes West, on the old Gleebe Island site in inner Sydney. This will be the first new suburb here in decades, with up to 8,500 homes planned just 4 kilometers west of the city center. At least 10% will be affordable units for essential workers, built right above a new metro station under construction. Some port operations on Gleebe Island will wrap up to make way for the homes, but white bay across the harbor stays fully active. Bulk handling for things like cement and sugar ends by no later than 2030, and those giant silos visible from the Anzac bridge are coming. Down to, right opposite the new suburb sits the busy white bay cruise terminal, about 2 kilometers away, hosting over 100 ships a year with 1,000 to 2,500 passengers each.
