New Lanes Open on I-65 in Shelby County

The Alabama Department of Transportation just hit a key milestone in the widening project by shifting traffic onto two newly built lanes in the Calera area. This change happened between Exit 231 and Exit 234. It clears the way for crews to wrap up important work without major disruptions. The move less the contractor replace aging bridges over railroad tracks and finish to outer land expansions. Traffic should flow better during this phase. The entire 8 mile upgrade from Alibaster to Calera stays right on track. Officials expect the full widened section to open by spring of 2028.
