About this episode

HJK Construction proposes a new apartment building in Dukinfield, featuring thirty-two flats on the site of the old North Star pub. On March 25, plans are moving forward for a new apartment building on the site of the old North Star Pub in Dukeenfield. Developer HJK Construction has submitted a proposal to Tameside Council for 32 flats off Queen Street. The four-story structure would feature eight apartments per floor, including a mix of one bedroom and two bedroom units. Ground level space would include car parking, bike storage, and bins. A similar plan for 32 homes in a five-story block got Council approval back in 2022, which gives this new bid some solid precedent. The North Star replaced an earlier pub called the Talbot, but shut down in the early 2000s and was torn down, leaving the spot empty ever since. It's a brownfield site right in a residential neighborhood. This out-mine application aims to deliver much needed housing that fits local policies for sustainable development. If approved, more details would need Council OK before construction kicks off, bringing fresh life to the long, vacant lot.
