Today, we're grabbing extra napkins to celebrate the messy icon that conquered the American kitchen. Welcome to the National Day Spotlight for March 18th. The Sloppy Joe is the king of the loose meat sandwich, but its fame exploded in the 1960s thanks to a revolutionary can called Manwich. Before the Manwich sauce hit the shelves, a Sloppy Joe required a long list of ingredients in stovetop simmering. That sauce in a can turned it into a 10 minute weeknight miracle for busy families. Whether the original Joe was a cook in Sioux City, Iowa, or a bar owner in Key West, the result was the same, a sweet and savory masterpiece that was impossible to eat neatly. It became the ultimate hero of the school cafeteria and the backyard cook out alike. A National Sloppy Joe day, lead into the mess and celebrate the sandwich that proves sometimes the best meals are the ones you can't quite hold together. And that is why we use a fork in addition to all the napkins.

A sandwich is a sandwich, but a Manwich is a meal. Yeah, I remember that. I do too, sadly, I to admit it, but yes, did you ever eat a Manwich? You know, I've never bought Manwich, I'm sorry.
