Ross, work your magic.
A multi-hyphenate never stays in her lane.
Staying in my lane would have kept me small.
Don't protect other people's comfort
at the cost of your growth.
Welcome to Project Swagger,
your transformation toolkit.
I am Ravana Arasun.
Being a multi-hyphenate is not the same thing
as being non-committal.
Hahaha.
Non-committal feels scattered.
Non-committal chases novelty.
The next cute fly thing, a multi-hyphenate builds depth
across multiple categories with intention.
For me being a multi-hyphenate is not about doing
endlessly more.
That's not about having 75 mediocre side hustles.
It's more about integration.
It's about refusing to amputate parts of myself.
And I refuse to shrink one identity
to make another more palatable.
None of my roles cancel each other out.
The discipline that I build in my athleticism
and in sport shows up in leadership.
That is the corporate athlete for you, baby.
Like the greatest leaders I know also move their bodies.
The softness that I practice in motherhood,
the vulnerability that I have has made me
a much more empathetic founder and leader.
And that is an asset.
And it wasn't until I really integrated motherhood
with my other ambitions that I understood that nuance.
I want to throw it to you.
I want you to think of your identity as a house.
And envisioning it as a house, I think,
allows us to have a framework for what
may feel disjointed at first.
So imagine you have one room that maybe is the athlete side
of you.
The other room is the side of you that's the family person.
The other room maybe is your on a romantic journey,
either seeking someone or in partnership.
Perhaps that's in one room.
Another room, if you're a caregiver,
you're the strong friend, you're a neighbor,
you're on the soccer team, whatever.
There are all aspects of us that can live in one house.
And it's incredibly important for us
to know what those rooms are, know which ones we may need
to dust off, understand which ones perhaps that we've locked.
This is how I've applied this house visualization
into my own life and how I've struggled
and how I used it to get out of that sticky place.
I, for a long time, did not consider myself a creative person.
And my expression would kind of bubble up.
I would say that the creative room in my house
was real dusty.
That room needed a swiffer baby.
That room needed a cleaning.
Because I'm very analytical, I'm type A, I like a list,
I like rules, I like structure.
And I didn't realize that I could be a creative person
within that.
And during the time period when I was trying to cobble
together a career and wellness, I was so focused
on learning how to coach runners,
learning how to write my first book,
trying to just learn the rules of this new game
that was post a law career.
That I forgot about the creativity and the play
that actually would make me better at what I do now.
And I realized that I was trying to create this persona
that was quite serious, to be taken seriously.
For example, I remember going for runs in Central Park
and thinking, gosh, I don't have these shorty, short tracks
of shorts.
And I'm not a five-minute mile.
How are they ever going to want to read my book?
Who's going to care?
And it was in that process of writing that book
that I realized, oh, it should have color.
It should have photos of me running in front of New York City
graffiti.
I should be able to wear gold jewelry like that's the point.
And it was when I unlocked that creative room
that actually people started to pay attention,
because I now had a point of view.
And it was a point of view that still had a depth of knowledge,
right?
It was just that in my pursuit of that depth of knowledge,
to be taken seriously and to become a master at my craft,
I forgot that the creativity was what
was my imprint on it.
And for me, that shows up as how I dress, what I wear,
how I speak, the music that I listen to,
the affectation that I uniquely have.
And it was when I unlocked that creative door
that created a room in the house that I started actually
to delve into fashion design.
And I started to create a leggings company, which
ended up being a total bust, which
may be a story for another day.
But I don't regret it, because I was able to get back
into this creative place where I realized I can reclaim
this part of me, and I can still be taken seriously and learn
and get a depth of knowledge into this new pursuit.
This is where I challenge you.
Identify one lane, someone assigned to you,
and step out of it this week.
Choose one room in your metaphorical house.
Spend 30 intentional minutes in it.
What does it look like?
How does it feel?
What furniture is in there?
What color is their music playing?
What's the weather outside?
Are there windows, OK?
Like, really try to get detailed with it.
Clean it up, reorganize it, or expand it.
I really pose the question, if someone
watched my life for one week, what would they learn
about what I value?
What aspects of this metaphorical house
would I be showing by how I spend my valuable minutes
each week?
And I think in pairing that question
with the visualization exercise, it might reveal to you
what rooms haven't been visited in a while.
Something that likely will come up comes up for me
as you are identifying a new area of the house
is self-doubt.
When we're in a new challenge, self-doubt is loud,
and self-doubt can get a lot louder than intuition, actually.
Sometimes it feels like self-doubt has a megaphone.
And the way I turn that down in my life is I name it.
I name it, and I shrink it down to one sentence.
And I replace it with a directive.
For example, if self-doubt has the megaphone
and it's saying, you're not ready.
You're not ready.
You're not ready.
I shrink it, and the directive becomes start anyway.
I'm still in the same place.
I haven't started yet.
But it could feel like really filled with doubt,
you're not ready?
Or that can translate into start anyway.
You will not build a legacy by staying contained.
You build it by expanding responsibly.

Hi, Robin.
So I've been like following your journey on social media
for the past couple of years,
and it's so inspiring to see like another Latvina
out there in fitness, in health, and lifestyle,
and just like crushing it.
So love that for us.
So my question is I've been freelancing for the last three years,
and now I'm really trying to grow into an agency in a team.
I just want to know like how to separate professional rejection
from like personal rejection.
Well, it is personal.
I mean, I think that it is personal when we get rejected
in especially in a professional environment.
And sometimes I think it hits harder
because in a romantic relationship or in a friend relationship,
it is exclusively personal.
So of course it's understandable if your feelings get hurt.
But somehow we've reached this age where it's impressed upon us
to be stoic at all times, and I don't agree with that.
So it's okay that it's personal
and have your process for dealing with it.
I'm always reminded, I think that the scarification
like of our bodies is fascinating.
And the strongest tissue that your body can create
on its own is scar tissue.
Your scar tissue actually comes back stronger
than the original skin, than the original tissue
than before you had it.
And I think if we strengthen ourselves
and armor ourselves to go again and again,
that is the life of an artist.
Thank you for your question.
And by the way, if you're comfortable
when you call 1877 All Swag, leave your name.
So I can have that connection with you
and I can know who I am talking to on this glorious landline.
Speaking of, next question is from Julie.
Hi, Robin.
This is Dr. Julie Levit calling from Chicago.
I'm an OBGYN and I would love to know
your best inspiration for new moms
how to fit exercise into their day.
I know that you break up your workouts
and do 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there
the busy mom of two young kids,
but I would love to know your advice.
Thanks Dr. Julie.
I mean, it really starts there.
I think on the outside looking in,
I probably would have looked at that advice,
especially before kids.
I mean, like that's it.
You just layer on 10 minutes.
Yeah, you do and you do it as frequently as you can
and as consistently as you can.
And then one day, a window of longer than 10 minutes opens up
and you take it.
That was truly how I approached movement.
I called them nap time in a little nap time hustles
and it was so grateful for like 10 minute low impact classes
on the Peloton bike and going out
to walk with the carrier and doing body weight exercises.
And you know, back when I was clear
and after I was cleared and I was really back
into my movement practices,
it was also asking people in the house,
asking my house, you know, telling my husband
like this is incredibly important to me.
In fact, I didn't need to tell him he knew,
but I recognized that's not the set up
in a lot of homes and there are single parents out there
and solo caregivers and there's all kinds of ways
that we are needing to be there for the people in our lives.
So you can't always delegate,
but if you can express the priority,
sometimes that will go a long way
in carving out an extra few minutes or routine.
Even if it's not more time, consistent time is a huge, huge win.
Giving ourselves grace and acknowledging
that we can only do so much.
Controlling the controllables is the number one thing.
And I always tell new moms,
especially when they take my classes at Peloton,
you will feel at home in your body again.
Keep showing up, even if that looks very, very different
than it did six months or a year or five years ago.
Thanks for what you do, Julian.
Thanks for your question.
I have been in Austin for South by Southwest.
Check out my Instagram and project swagger's
for more behind the scenes.
It has been amazing.
It has also inspired my edit this week
all about my travel essentials.
When I travel, I don't pack for the trip.
I pack for the version of me.
He was so awesome to perform when I get home.
When I walked through the door, my kids don't care
where I was or what I was doing.
I'm back on mom duty immediately.
Essentials for me, I pack all my vitamins,
half my carry on as vitamins,
but I always include things like magnesium and fiber,
like psyllium husk that helps a lot.
I pack my sound machine.
I am a creature of habit.
If once I hear the sound machine,
go on in my hotel room.
I feel like I can actually get back to sleep.
Electrolites, of course.
Protein packets, know your girl is always
slinging a protein packet.
I mean, the easiest thing to do
when there is nothing healthy to eat in the airport
is there's some protein in in water and you're good.
I also tend to pack oats overnight.
Those are oats that have protein in them.
20 grams of protein.
You can do hot hot water at a hotel room
or just water on a plane,
which is what I did over the weekend,
and it's really helped.
I write down specific and realistic movement goals.
I will schedule them in,
and I, even if I'm changing time zones,
I will start my day
when the sun rises with movement,
getting sunlight in my eyes.
I hope those tips are helpful for your next vacation.
I'll see you next week.
