1:00Good to be back home. Sure. Good to be here. Yeah, it's good to be home. It was a great week, long week. But it's good to be back home. Good to see you again. It's been a while. Yeah, we were up late last night. It is kind of, it's a little like putting your life back together after a vacation, but not really. There was a lot of stuff to do to catch up. But I think I got caught up, started off today. Well, I feel good. My life is back on the rails. I feel good. Such a rewarding week. I mean, it's a week of just meeting so many people that are so nice and so many people that are so unselfish. I think I love that most about RV TV. It's just you go into these communities and sometimes like I had never been to Conrad or Milo. I hope I go back again.

2:01Those places were great. You see, you learn where the lunch spot is or where people go. But I mean, anything we needed, there's always somebody willing to jump in. Like at one point, I had rosters printed for the Friday night game. Just whatever you need. And it's not because we're on TV. That's just the way these small towns are. They just, I don't know. I love that part of it. And it was a long week. I put in like 80 hours. That's a lot. But it's not, I realize it's not hard physical labor, but it's more rewarding than it is hard, I think. I agree. Yeah. And you know, my kids don't watch the news. None of their friends watch the news. A lot of our friends in the neighborhood don't watch the news. I don't have people like talking to me about the news like we used to. But when we were out on RV TV, it's suddenly that changed.

3:04And people, I could tell they were still engaged. And they wanted to talk about sound off and wanted to talk about what's bugging Andy. And I was, it kind of felt like a, it was kind of a throwback week is what it was. And we ran into people that we hadn't seen in a long time. And, and you know, that's why it's kind of fun to go back to some of these RV TV locations repeatedly. I mean, we put years in between them, but we can reconnect with people. If they're working on some project in the town while we're there. And then we come back several years later, we can see how that, that worked out, you know, that turned out. And, and it does just kind of remind you of how much more there is to I within just the, the Des Moines Metro. Sure does. And it is also like a marker of time, a passage of time because so many times, well, Skylar stamps who works in our newsroom as a reporter now, we get a look at like for him all the time as a young Tom Brady. He was one of the kids, Ed interviewed on RV TV in diagonal,

4:12which doesn't seem like that many years ago. And now here he is as one of our reporters and fill in anchors. I mean, that doesn't seem like it was that long ago that Michael Admeyer was mud skiing and diagonal. But Skylar stamps was, was one of the kids being interviewed at that time. And now he's a grown man. And that happens a lot. It'll be like, yeah, you interviewed me when I was seven. And this guy's got like a full beard, three kids on his second marriage. And you're like, oh wow, time flies by. But that's the pictures of us the last time we were there and stuff. Oh, we had black hair, remember when you had black hair? I remember. I can remember. Yeah. Yes, I do. Yes, I do. All right, let's get, we got a lot to get to here out of Monday as you'd expect. So let's roll from tailgating to after school snacks. Fairway has everything that my entire family needs. Same. Unbelievable.

OSU and that's Oklahoma State, not Ohio State, stuns Oregon, Kaitlyn Wins Gold, but let's start with the Sihock, although things have changed over time with the Murfnandy show. Andy, by the time we get to our Monday show, there's been like 17 breakdown shows of the game. We're not even second. No, no, it's not even close, but I mean, that was kind of always the case. It just didn't all have a group on the same network, right? Yeah. Yeah, I know. So we'll try to offer our own unique perspectives that you haven't heard yet. Oh, yeah. There you go. So the Sihock, Iowa wins the game. And we start there with

7:25expectations, including you, Andy, and Hassel on here on Iowa everywhere. Both of you were pretty vocal about thinking Iowa would roll. You weren't alone. Most of the national media felt that way too. And that's not an illogical take. You have arguably the strongest culture program in America, the Iowa Hawkeye football program with a 27th year, or is it 28 now? Your head coach in Kirk Farrance, and you have a team with zero returning starters on offense or defense, 83 new players. And the game is at Kinnex Stadium. And there's absolutely no doubt that Iowa had this game circled. They lost the past two games to Iowa State at Kinnex Stadium and the past two in the series overall. So there's, there's no sneaking up on Iowa. And there was a lot, there was a lot of logical reasons to believe that Iowa would roll. I mean, I picked Iowa to win this game too. I don't even know if I know anybody who picked Iowa State. I didn't hear anybody say

8:28they thought Iowa State had a chance to win this game. Even on RV TV, even cyclone fans. I didn't hear a single person outside the cyclone locker room, which they we played a lot of that sound. But they have to say that. I just didn't hear any fans. I mean, we didn't talk to cyclone Jerry this year. So I just didn't hear any fans say that they thought Iowa State had a chance to win. And you know, honestly, it was a guess. But we were basing, I was basing my assessment much on what we saw in week one. Now it was only one week. I'll, you know, give you that. But I thought that I would look like a team that was really ready to go and was going to be able to kind of force their will. I thought they were going to run their game plan. And, and I didn't think that boated well for a, a newly minted cyclone team, particularly the, the cyclone defense.

9:31Yes. And, and as we saw in this game, Iowa State has talent. Many of these guys, of course, have played football and started somewhere else, a Washington state or South Dakota state, in some cases, FCS programs. But they're coming together for just their second game. And both of these teams in their first game played overmatched opponents, CMO and, and Northern Illinois. So there wasn't a lot to get out of that. But when you get to the end result of this, you don't ever apologize for a win. And Iowa won the football game. And yes, you could hear the collective sigh of relief because ADU are getting ready, Andrew Downs getting ready for instant Iowa. And there's a point there in the third quarter where I'm thinking if Iowa State wins this game, this is going to be, if not the all time Hawkeye meltdown, it's going to be top three. I mean, it's going to be strong if they lose to Iowa State again under these circumstance.

10:31And it seemed like a real possibility for the vast majority of that game. And so yeah, that, that was very worrisome, especially as a guy who has to go on right afterwards and, you know, deal with it and emotional fan base and emotions within myself. I was not ready to do another instant Iowa where I was state one. And it seemed like it was setting up to have another game decided by a con-rardi kick. Right. I got the ball back with six and a half minutes left. I was like, oh, here we go. There's a line in the end. Yeah. And I was in all the makings. Well, I have the rewind to just a moment of brief one, but you know, Iowa State gets out to a 10, nothing lead and not by some fluke in their play. And Iowa straight up and down. And I think of the two themes, we talked about this a lot last night on Sound Off, including a survey vote of which, which left you a stronger impression? Iowa is not as good as you thought or Iowa State

11:31is better than you thought. And Iowa State overwhelmingly was the winner of that. And I agree with that. And I think a lot of cyclone fans who I don't know many that had a doubt about Jimmy Rodgers, but they just weren't sure. How could you be? You know, he had won an national championship at a lower level and that he had had a six and six Washington State team, but that was one year. But he can coach. And I really struck me, Andy, throughout this game. And maybe this changes over time. But Jimmy Rodgers, his approach to coaching college football is a lot like Kirk Farons. He wants the cyclones to be really physical. I mean, how many times do you see the other team be as physical as Iowa? Maybe even more physical? That doesn't usually happen. We've seen a Penn State team play at Kinnex Stadium and looked like they wanted to get on the bus and leave at half time because they were just getting a living crap beat out of them. I mean, Iowa prides itself on

12:32physicality. Well, Jimmy Rodgers, the first time I interviewed him, he told me that that is his, one of his top priorities is that they are the most physical team in the big 12. And then in the fourth quarter, teams are tired of being hit by them. Well, you could see that. You could see that that is very much coached by that coaching staff. They want to be physical. They want to be defense, defense first. You could see that Rodgers, much like Farons, wants to just tilt the field, get the ball back to his offense and have a chance to win the football game because of the defense and special teams. So there are a lot of like in their approach to how to win football games. And Iowa State came close. I mean, Iowa led for 15 seconds. They were the most important 15 seconds, but they led for 15 seconds. I mean, in seconds. Yeah, I mean, I think there were a lot of watch parties in the state that just sort of sat there biting their tongues

13:38for at least a half a football in that game where you were just like, what am I seeing here exactly? What's going on here? That team came to play. And I think I was kind of feeling like, okay, well, I need to see more. And I still feel like I need to see more. Okay, let me just lay that out there. I mean, this is too good. But I mean, that team came to play. They were really physical. I mean, there's got to be like three different elements in place, right? I mean, the team has to come to play. They've got to have a plan. And then they got to execute the plan and make the play. So I mean, that's a lot. They did for the most part all three of those things. I mean, they didn't do them perfectly, but they were, you know, cheese. I mean, I'm just surprised that we had a game that you can look at in retrospect right now and say, okay, here are two or three situations that I was state didn't

14:41get taken care of and it cost them the game or it likely cost them the game. That's pretty incredible right there. Just saying that, I mean, because they took care of everything else, they really did play a very good game. And I mean, I don't know that anybody came away from there thinking, okay, Jimmy Rogers may still not be the right hire. They, right, Jimmy Rogers made a statement there and that and that was good. But I sat the first half and I was just like, damn, I didn't say a whole lot. I watched it really closely, but it was clear by the second half when you thought, all right, no, maybe I'll say something. If I wouldn't start this second half on a roll, right, and just take over the second half, maybe then I'll say something and that point. I think a lot of people just stepped up like, okay, I was state, they scored another, they got another three points. I was state is for real. This talent gap that we were all worried

15:42about or all, you know, certain that we would see has not showed up. We have not seen a talent cap or not a big one at all. Right. I think the compliments started pouring out at that point in the second half when it seemed like there was no fluke. I was state came to play. They had a plan and they were executing the plan pretty well. Not the most exciting game, not a highlight machine, but it was physical. It was tense and it was up in the air until the final play of the game. So there's a lot to be said for this being a good game. So let's get to the game rewind. It was scoreless after the first quarter, which also surprised people and then I was state quarterback Jaylen Rainer hit the former ADM tiger Vince Bonetti. It's 10sip cyclone out of the shotgun Rainer and he throws it to the left side, caught by Bonetti. Touchdown Vince Bonetti. Those Rainer is something he's got the Hawks turned inside out right now and as I was state on the board

16:47again, what an impressive drive by the cyclone. The cyclones and six. Gosh, Owen Sebring with some video. That's great to see. And then how what a what a privilege to have Reese Strickland's photos now. Yeah, just as another element there. Because you've probably seen the highlights by now, but the emotion captured by a great photographer does add something. So glad to have Reese on board there. So it's 10 nothing and you can feel the puckering starting. You can just I mean, there's AD you what was it like at 10 nothing because this doesn't look like a flute 10 nothing. No, it was like we're getting manhale and we need a different quarterback. That was maybe my biggest takeaway through those first three or four offensive series for the Hawkeyes. You're calling for Hecklenzki at this point. Yeah, because we need a score, right? It's one thing when it's three nothing nothing. But now it's like, okay, we're down by 10.

17:48You can't you can't keep screwing around here and then Hank Brown comes out again and it was like, oh my god, what are we doing? And and then after he's missing some pass. He's missing some receivers just staring down Tony Diaz as he likes to do. Yep, from the snap. He is they I'm sure they have, but it's different in practice than it is in a game. I'm sure by now he's been told by Tim Leicester and others. You have got to look to the other side of the field. You got to look off the safety. You got to look off the corner back. You got to scan the field with your head and then if Diaz is is there then go to him, but he's not doing that. He is locking in on Diaz from the time he gets the football, which makes it easier to defend a guy that's really hard to defend and right now so far, Hank Brown did some good things, but he's not going through his progressions. There are times where there's tight ends open, other receivers open, and he's just looking for Tony Diaz who looks like the real deal, but there's some open receivers and he's got to hit them

18:48too and then that allows Diaz to get even more open. But Iowa does answer to Hank Brown's credit because he comes out and you can feel Hawkeye fans going, oh man, I don't know about this, but he finds Tony Diaz with his best pass of the season. Tight and all right, rolling that way is Brown. Now he turns back, goes down the middle of the field. He got Diaz and it is pop. Inside the 10 at the 8-5 yard line, let's see what they spot him down. Seven yard line, what a great throw by Hank Brown and Diaz just sprinted past the defender. Brown's in the gun, molten, standing next to him. Brown's going to try and run outside, dives for the goal line, offer, touchdown, touchdown, Hank Brown, touchdown, Iowa. And Hank Brown can, he runs for a touchdown there and he can do that. But you are also reminded on just a terrible looking,

19:53let's call it a tush push, that Brown is not Mark Grunowski. They may need to take that out of the playbook. That fourth down, was it a fourth down? I think it was. That was bad. Credit to the Iowa State defense or just stonewalling it. But yeah, that's not Josh Allen or Mark Grunowski back there when you need a yard on the sneak or the tush push. Yeah, I agree. On the past to Diaz, I don't know how you guys felt about that, but I felt relieved there because I could just kind of feel the dark clouds gathering right where we're, Kirk Farens' hell bent on making this guy is starting quarterback. And the whole crowd wants him to change and it seems like he should change and he doesn't. And then it's just going to be another one of those situations where we spend

20:54the entire season where it's the crowd versus the coach. And I just, I can't take another one of those. And that's how it felt. So when he completed that pass, I was like, okay, all right, good. All right. This guy, it's okay to have him in there and let him work through some stuff here. And maybe this will still work out. That was a good pass. That's exactly what they needed at the time. So I was, I just, I felt happy for Kirk Farens and for the Iowa fans at that point. Yeah, he, Hank Brown got better as the game went on and he made some good throws. He made some good runs. No turnovers for either quarterback, either team. So this was a, this was a well-coached game. Now early in the third quarter, Hawkeye killer Kyle Conradi hits from beyond 50 again. Conradi from 51. Kick on the way. And it is good. No problem at all. That would have gone 72.

21:55What's wrong with that kid? He's got a strong right leg. That's one thing that's wrong with him. Kyle Conradi from downtown again. His seventh field goal against Iowa. And it's a 13 to 10 lead for Iowa state. Yeah, I hope you're watching a YouTuber or Facebook or one of the places you can watch along. I know some of you are just listening, but those photos are fantastic. That's a real good addition there. AD. Thank you for those. Yeah. Gary Dolphin is, is writer is that Pat anger? That, that kick. I hadn't seen that angle. That 51 yard or that ball is toward the top of the uprights. Yeah, it's hard to tell from the angle they gave you on TV just how far that was. It kind of looked to me like it was barely over the crossbar when we were watching on TV. It's cool to see that angle. He got that. And yeah, I mean, he is a, he's a weapon. He is a major weapon. I don't think at that point I thought that was going to potentially be.

22:59I mean, it wasn't, it wasn't going to be the game winner of the Hawkeyes tighted it up. But I mean, it was, it had the potential, at least in the second half to give the cyclones, it gave them the lead. It had the potential to hold up. I thought it was just a huge kind of set of downs from Iowa State where they basically answered and say, no, no, we're not going away this half. Yeah. And you, you get that feeling too in this game where you, you know what Con Marti can do under extreme pressure. But you don't know what Iowa's kicker can do. He's not the kicker anyone expected at the beginning of the season because they have a transfer who comes in. He gets beat by this walk on. And the walk on misses his, misses an extra point in game one. So you're, you're just not sure about that. But man, these guys were just stone cold with their kicking. I mean, this is high pressure stuff in a tight game like this. So tied late in the fourth, Caden Boer for the win. It kicks on the way. And it is.

23:59What a play by Tanner Philpott. The snap was behind him. He reached back and grabbed it. And somehow got it down. But what a terrific football game. Great game. Iowa wins at 16 to 13. Shouldn't we have expected anything else? I mean, what a win for the guys. You know, young team, lots of new starters. God see game. You know, they had it. They had to handle some adversity and to come back. Crazy environment. Really good for these guys to get this win. So much to unpack just at the end of this game. Okay. So first of all, Tanner Philpott out of walkie northwest. And then Simpson, he, he does a great catch of the snap and gets it down quickly. Iowa kid, Iowa kid kicking as well. Everyone including Gary Dolphin and the game announcers were saying, saying Caden Boer as Iowa's two on the newscast. He politely when asked afterwards, did correct the reporters there and said, like, he didn't, didn't mind, didn't care, but it's

25:03boor. It's not burr. And we've all been saying burr and he's been kicking for two games. It's not in the pronunciation guide. At least I don't think at Iowa as being boer, but it's, it's boor. So we got that correct. They, they, you have that crazy play at the end of regulation where it gets up, I don't know, near midfield. And then the, the refs decide there's one second left on the clock. But that is the correct rule because Iowa state had no timeouts. You can't place the ball down and still have time to snap. It has to be at at least three. But there's all kinds of confusion about that. And then Iowa finally gets that ugly squares, Syhawk trophy back and drops it. They dropped the trophy and you can't see it here, but I think I think it's tray from W.O.I. who is not far away with his foot. And I think this trophy weighs 90 pounds.

26:04He, he tripped the guy and made him drop. No, no, no, no. I'm saying it almost hit his foot. He's their shooting video. And they dropped the trophy. If that hits your foot and you're wearing sneakers, you're in some pain. And probably the hospital. Yeah, fortunately, that trophy is just like a solid block. It's not very breakable. Right. I mean, it's not the old one probably would have, would have, like the old old one, not the pewter family. Now the pewter family, there would have been a decapitation. Somebody would have passed an arm in witness protection. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, it's just a solid block. Yeah. I, I, I thought, you know, and we all kind of talked about this. But the first half was so clean. Were there any penalties in the first half? Maybe one. It went, it was very clean. No turnovers. It was clean. And then the second half, what did it, what a different team of refs come out on the field in the second half?

27:05What the hell was that? That was a terrible half of officiating. There were some times. Yeah, there, there are big 12 officials, but there were some strange time interpretations by, by that crew. There's a couple of things I still don't understand. And much has been made because it's been shared far and wide, especially by Hawkeye fans of that, the punt where they go over and they're like wrestling the Hawkeye, which is throwing them onto the ball. Yeah. Until the ball is touched, you can, it's, I don't think most people know this, but you can go and get physical with the returner. And clearly Iowa State has, has been taught to do that if, if the ball is not down and no play has been made yet. But if you somehow force the returner into touching the ball, it's not like you can get the football under those circumstances. So I'm not quite sure what the

28:06motivation of that is in, in that case, but that, that video clip has been everywhere. Yeah, but there were calls and no calls that were puzzling and didn't look good. And it just slowed the whole game slowed down. I understand you want to call penalties when you see them, but there were a number of calls they made that were not penalties or at least very questionable. And you would think that a crew that let the game go and the first half would continue to call it that way in the second half. So I thought it slowed it, it slowed it down a lot and and was not, it did not add to the entertainment value. But you know, I, I, one thing that was kind of crossing my mind as I was watching this game is, you know, sometimes these, these regional rivalry games, you have players who grew up in the state, grew up, you know, watching this game very closely, they're, they're very familiar with how much it means to the fans. And they get kind of emotionally swept away by the game.

29:13And I was thinking, you know, maybe this is part of what's going on here is you have a bunch of guys coming in for Iowa State who aren't aware of this rivalry and they don't care, right? They, they don't care. They don't care that this is Iowa. They don't care that this is something special here. They're going in to play a football game. That means the same to them as a, a big 12 game wood or a conference game wood. And they just go in there and they can put the blinders on and leave all the other shit out of their mind and not, not getting, not get sidetracked. And they're just kind of buckle down and play football. Maybe that was what was going on. Now I, I don't, I say that with full recognition for, for what Jimmy Rogers was able to do in that game. And he, he coached a really good game. And he, he looks like he's going to be ready to be a good coach at Iowa State. He's looking like a good hire at this point. But I, I thought maybe that had something to do with it. You just, you had a bunch of guys that were new and sometimes that makes it easier

30:17to block out all the other noise. They definitely came in the cyclones expecting to win the game. Jake Taylor, who I still think of as the catcher in Major League. He was, uh, he had the face pain on. He looked like the guy from the program for those who can remember that football movie with James Conn was that in the 90s? Uh, I mean, he was, he, it was full face paint. But he was like, I know no one else thought we're, but we expected to win this game. We came in here confident. We were going to win this game. And they played like it. I mean, they were not intimidated at all. There were, there were many islands, both kickers were islands in this game. But Iowa State, I mean, maybe, maybe that does help. No, I would say the majority of those guys have never played in front of a crowd like that. Yeah. But it did, they didn't blink. I mean, they, they, they, they dominated the first half for most of it, not all of it, 10, 10 at the half. But then as the,

31:17as the fourth quarter gets here and Iowa's defense, which, which was good, um, they, they limit Iowa State to 13 yards in the fourth quarter until that final play. And I think if you're, if your Iowa State and it's, it's dangerous to make any sweeping conclusions after a rivalry game. It's just different. The emotions are different. Everything about it's different. But if your Iowa State, I think you can feel good that your defense and special teams are going to be really good and, and fine in the big 12. I think the concern becomes when you play an Oklahoma State, a team that just beat Oregon. I mean, can you, can you score enough to win? And, and Jalen Rainer, um, he missed some passes. He made some pass. He was solid. It wasn't great, but he was solid. But his, his super power is scrambling. We've seen that against Iowa State when he played for Arkansas State. They got to get him in space more. I agree. You said this last night. I totally agree. Yeah. They got, they got to find ways to, to get him in space more. And because they're going

32:21to have to, they're going to have to score some points. The defense, I mean, the defensive line with the formations they were using in some of the stunts. I mean, what Iowa was held in 93 yards rushing. I mean, that, that shocked me, right? I really thought going into this game. If I was going to put my money on one thing happening, uh, it was going to be Iowa was going to be able to run the ball on that Iowa State defense. But that, that, that defensive line that the cyclones have was the unit of the game in my, in my opinion. I mean, they, and it was fun to see a cyclone defense get after the quarterback. Right? Yeah. We haven't seen more aggressive. Long time. Aggressively getting after the quarterback, but at the same time, uh, they didn't commit the Achilles heel that a big time pass rush off and does. And that's give up a bunch of rushing yards. They stopped the run too. So they did really, really well. Now, I mean, I was, I was off and Scott, uh, enough done there. They were, they were, were good enough. But I, I mean, I think,

33:21I think both teams came away from this game. Understanding a few things that they, they need to work on, right? That they need to, to polish up. And they have a game to do it. This coming weekend, both are heavy favorites and should roll should also mention Camp Buffington. He had 50. He was great. Yeah. He was, he was, he was really good. Uh, let's get a quickie poll from WCI pulls and spas in Ames and Urbandale, even though we shouldn't read too much into a rivalry game. Let's go ahead and do it anyway. After two weeks, which is the better bet? I will with nine or more wins or Iowa State six or more wins. Well, Andy, if I learned anything from you last night, it's I don't know. Yeah, we don't know. We don't know. Yeah. What do we see in that game? Did we see a, uh, one game incredible effort, um, or a, a one game glitch from somebody? I, I mean, who knows? I mean, but yeah, I, I mean, I'm going to go with Iowa State with six plus wins here because I,

34:22I feel like that's the best team Iowa State is going to play this year. And they played the, and nearly beat them on the road. So that's how I'm feeling right now. Yeah. So it's, and, and you know, like the Minnesota and Illinois games for I would look a lot easier than they did when you could go after each of those teams lost at home. I could see either of these things happening. I could see neither of these things happening. I think the best bet is that Iowa State finds a way to get six wins. Even though I went through their schedule again today, it's still hard for me to get to that sixth win. And there's so much we don't know as we're learning as we watch some of these college football results when you get the, the whip lash from one week to the next. I think that's a kind of a new world in this transfer world. But some more observations, uh, perfect night. I mean, oh, I don't think you could draw it up much better than this, especially after the, the,

35:27sweltering heat the week before it, Kinnex Stadium, N. Jack Tristadium, but, but that, that game perfect. All the dam or rain we had earlier in the, in the week and we have come in this week. I mean, it was just beautiful. And there were so many, uh, we had a neighborhood party or in the backyard. It was just absolutely perfect. A little cool to end to end everything off, but it was just great sunset, clear sky. I'm sure the tailgating lots, you didn't probably matter when you arrived there. I bet you could have tailgated all day long and, and just felt great the whole day. It was just, it was just perfect. The game was, was sold out, of course, no surprise. I, I don't have the answer to this question because I was in the studio. But what, what were the goofy hats that were shown on all the, is that what the, is that what the, is that what the work is? Yeah, it's what it's like to me. Oh, but they weren't the, they weren't those, they weren't this kind of corn hat. Were they a corn cob? Wasn't exactly, that's what that was. I mean, I think when you have a, a iconic uniform, the gold pants or yellow look much better than this, but it made for, the contrast did make for, for a good look here. I, you know, in a reminder, the Kinnex stadium looks so cool under the, under the lights in a night game. It is, it does. It's just striking. I mean, I, there are a lot of college football stadiums that, that stand out like that, but Kinnex stadium, I don't just kind of the way it's laid out and presents itself, it really is striking. 37:35half time for Derek, the, the band member who, you know, tragically died and then, um, after a medical emergency in, in week one and just spelling the, the, the Derek out and seeing, you know, some of the band members crying as they're out there playing and then just putting the rivalry aside and being reminded it's just a football game. It's just sports. Um, and, and the Iowa State Man wearing the DIFD, do it for Derek Pins on their uniforms and, and also Nebraska, you and I, among others that, that, uh, recognize Derek and I heard Chris Hassel saying that, uh, Derek's dad watches the shows here on Iowa everywhere and it's just very appreciative of the, the, the kind things that have been said about him and, and the gestures. I mean, that's just, that's unimaginable to get, uh, to have this happen and, and that was nice to see any. Yeah, I had some friends from other states

Um, it was really moving and yeah, kind of, uh, kind of, uh, grounds us all, right, to snaps us into reality as we get lost in the craziness of, yeah, football fandom. Somebody gets in a little accident or fender better and they're pulled over on the shoulder of the road and then we slows down to rubber neck. And then archmaning completes a fourth down pass of beauty that keeps them a lot has to go right for this to happen, including Ohio State missing a field goal that bore or conradity would have made. That mean, Oklahoma State dominated that game. So that was, that was interesting. So let's go to the ESPN football power index rankings because they take human emotion out of this. It's an American football game that people love to come watch and cheer for their teams. It's not any deeper than that. And I get there's a pass to it. But why are we stirring that bull crap up? You know, it's 9-11. This country needs unity now more than ever. And I was embarrassed for them to be honest. And that's why I tried to embarrass them at the end. I agree with them. I agree with them there. And also, Colombia, Missouri, where the University of Murray, Missouri is located, was in the Union in the Civil War. Now, there are pockets outside of Colombia that were with the Confederacy. And furthermore, the Missouri Tigers are named after a

52:34Union militia that fought against the Confederacy in the Civil War. They were called the Missouri Tigers. And that's what the school's named after. So despite the awful bad judgment to have that video, it's really not even fair. I mean, yes, much of Missouri was in the Confederacy, but not Colombia, not where the school was. So, yeah, St. Louis is really not, yeah, St. Louis and Kansas City and in Colombia are different from the rest of the state. And Kansas is hardly the bastion of civil rights. I mean, that's where Brown versus the Board of Education is taking place in Topeka. I mean, don't stir this stuff up. Don't stand out in front of your glass house and start hurling stones. You know how that goes? And this is, yeah, he's right. And this is just, there's no, there's no point in going here. No, it's kind of thing. It's college football. But I get hit with the nostalgic feels when I see stuff like this because across the street from this was the the bowling alley and it just had this sign and it said beer burgers bowling. I don't think Dennis completely he would he made sure that John took care of the bike like it's it's a he was watching he was watching to make sure and by the way over the behind the bike is like a hundred thousand dollar sports car there. And Sears wanted the the the bike. Yeah, Jason's Jason's Corvette in the background there. And I'll be the man musco good god, they they broke out the cool toys for this. Yeah, the musco lighting is turned off at this point because the drone shows about to start, but yeah, the screens were studio lighting on the street, but the screens were there there's two. They brought those up also those giant screens. They have all sorts of toys are always coming out and then inside Merf's bar here here's Merf and Merf. Right. I got that picture. I love that. Merf

59:50this is just one little shot here kind of late in the day, but that there were thousands of people there. I can't believe how many people turned out for that. I mean, this is in the, usually it's a little different because if we're in the metro, I mean, it's people that see us a lot and it's, you know, maybe not as big a deal to them. So they don't show up quite like some of the other towns, man, that people just kept pouring in. It was a football Friday there. They had it was beautiful weather. Had a lot to do. A lot of people were getting ready for the side-hawk game. Man, that was a huge crowd there in, in Adele was kind of all around. So bravo to them for that. I'm going snapshots. Yeah, thank you. Those were good. I'm going low. And it, it was just the football Friday primetime game. Yeah. So Thursday night in Albee, I still, I still didn't even have rosters and I, they were nice enough to print rosters for me at Thunder Country. And I printed the wrong year. So it said 2026, but it was 2025, 26. And what you need now are 2026, 2027. And then so on top of

1:01:01having rosters and all the prep I'd done from the two teams from last year. So numbers didn't match. Until that, the booth was dark. So at one point, one of our, and once the sun went down in the booth turned dark. And I couldn't see. And we were jammed into a booth with a bunch of other assistant coaches who, a couple of them were standing so that we had a little bit of space. So it wasn't, that's a small booth. They're going to change. They're getting a bigger stadium and all that, you did a story on that Andy at 80M. Yeah. It's grown so much that even the booth is overcrowded with people. So we're just in certainty and I were jammed in there and the coaches are two of them are standing because we've taken their seats. But they don't want the lights on in the, in the booth because, you know, they're reviewing the game and they feel like they can see better. We get it. That's fine. But I can't see anymore. So Greg Richwine sends up this, this like extension light and we don't have any hands for it. So, so Cade, my son, he, he tucks it in his pants and it's like

1:02:08he's turning toward us as he's holding a cross light. So we start calling it the crotch light. But that we can find, we can see for a little bit here and we're so thankful. And then the crotch light runs out of power like after five minutes. So then we're trying to find a cord or something to power the crotch light backup, crotch light power never returns. And the, the, just of this low is just I, I really wish I had done a better job. I wasn't as prepared as I want to be. And I made mistakes like the wrong rosters and just in certainty did a great job and everybody in the crew did a great job. You were fantastic on the sidelines. As you always are, Andy, I just, I wish I had been sharper, ADM and North Polk deserved a little better. Well, I thought you did fine. And I wouldn't have noticed until you drew attention to it. And how cool to have Benetti, Flora, and Dahl, all from ADM high school in that same game too for Iowa State 1 for Iowa.
