In October of 2022, 25-year-old on Trip in Orch and Quellab Robinson left Charlotte, North Carolina for what was supposed to be a fun birthday getaway in Cuba with friends. But less than 24 hours later, she was dead. At first, her family was told she had died from alcohol poisoning, but inconsistent stories, a disturbing video and conflicting autopsy reports,

3:06would soon reveal a much darker and more complicated truth. In this episode, we look at Ched Quellab's final hours, the so-called friends who returned home without her, and the unanswered questions her family is still fighting to have answered. This is her story. Ched Quellab, Bernada Robinson was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 9, 1997. She graduated from Winston State University, and would soon go on to become a successful entrepreneur. Her family said that Ched Quellab had a bright future ahead of her. After college by 2022, she operated multiple boutique and beauty and children's hair-braiding businesses in her hometown under the brands, exquisite kids, and exquisite boutique. Ched Quellab was a motivated, hard-working and extremely kind person.

4:11Her mother, Cellamondra Robinson, said of her, she was a good person. She had a good heart. She loved everybody. She loved life. She just had a heart of gold. I just know there was nothing she could have done to anyone to make them do her like that. People who knew Ched Quellab said that she was loyal to though she loved and would do anything for them. When Ched Quellab died suspiciously on October 29, 2022, during the vacation of Mexico, this came as a shock to those who knew her best. On October 28, 2022, Ched Quellab embarked on a brief vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Accompanied by a friend and five other travelers, consisting of three women and three men. Among them were Calil Cook, Malik St. Patrick Dyer, Winter Essence Donovan, Elise Michelle Hyatt, Desjane Jackson, who now goes by Amonnie Green, and Nazir Wiggins. This group collectively would eventually be referred to as the Cabo Six, which is how we'll

5:11refer to them for the rest of this episode. Ched Quellab met and befriended the Cabo Six while she was in college, but these people had been a friend group prior to meeting Ched Quellab. The person Ched Quellab was closest to from the Cabo Six was Calil Cook, and many said that she considered him to be her best friend. Ched Quellab's mother has since made it clear that she was not super familiar with the Cabo Six prior to the trip, with the exception of Calil Cook, who frequently hung out with Ched Quellab and her family, and even joined them on a handful of family trips. The group arrived at a luxury rental villa located in the Puerto Los Cabos Resort, and the purpose of the trip was to celebrate the birthdays of two of the Cabo Six, Desjane Jackson and Nazir Wiggins, the latter of whom won and arrive until the next day, October 29th. Now the luxury villa they rented is exactly the kind you might expect for a destination like Cabo, a wide open living space, private pool hot tub, and even a private chef

6:14It also had five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. This place was truly paradise. The first day of the villa, the day Ched Quellab and the Cabo Six arrived was on a mumpel. The seven friends spent the day and evening hanging out, drinking, playing drinking games, and swimming. We know this because Ched Quellab documented a lot of this first day on her Instagram stories. It was the typical vacation kind of content that you'd expect to see on Instagram. Lighthearted and fun. But there was one particular post from Chenquella that was eerily disturbing. It was posted at 8.45 pm and showed Chenquella completely passed out on a hammock. It was recorded on her phone, but it had been recorded and uploaded by Khalil. Chenquella eventually did wake up later that night, and when she did, she began to post to her stories on Instagram again. She also called her mom to tell her that she was getting ready for dinner and that the personal chef was going to make them tacos at the villa. As far as Salamandra was concerned, her daughter sounded very happy and excited.

7:19Chenquella even pulled her mom that she would call her the next day with more updates from the trip. Chenquella ended that call by saying, I love you, have a good night, and I'll talk to you tomorrow. The following day, October 29, was supposed to be another day of drinking, swimming, and parting in the villa for Chenquella. But a video later surfaced that showed Chenquella wandering around the villa by herself, calling out for the others. In the video, you can hear her asking where everyone is, and saying that it doesn't take that long to get naked. The latter statement, presumably referring to a plan for all of them to go skinny dipping. Chenquella eventually found the rest of the group hanging out in a room without her. In the video, you can sense how strange the body language is from the others. The party vibe seems off somehow compared to Chenquella, who seems to be in really good spirits and excited about another fun day in Cabo. But everything would change very soon. At around 2 pm that afternoon, Khalil made a phone call to Chenquella's mother,

8:22and let her know that Chenquella wasn't feeling well, specifically telling Salamandra that Chenquella had consumed too much alcohol. He said they couldn't take her to the emergency room because they didn't have the money. But he also said a doctor was enraped to the villa, and that he and the others would take care of her while they waited for the doctor to arrive. Salamandra gave him Chenquella's social security number and told him anything else the doctor would need to know about her would be in Chenquella's purse. When the doctor arrived and began to treat Chenquella, Khalil kept her mother up to date with what was going on, but he more or less kept saying the same thing over and over, that Chenquella wasn't feeling well and that the doctor was treating her. Then a few hours later, Khalil made one final phone call to Salamandra, breaking the news to her that Chenquella had died. He told her that the doctor did everything he could to save her, but Chenquella succumbed to her alcohol poisoning and died. Salamandra would later say that Khalil showed no emotion when he called her with that news.

9:26After this phone call, Mexican authorities arrived to begin to question the Cabo 6 about what exactly had happened. And this is where the story starts to disintegrate. There accounts varied. Some of them said that Chenquella had been drinking and fall and hit her head on the toilet, while others said she fell in the pool that was attached to the villa. Instead of staying in Mexico and helping to arrange having Chenquella's body transferred back to the States, the Cabo 6 simply packed up all their belongings and left the country. The only things they brought back of Chenquella were the bags she had taken with her to Mexico. Khalil ended up dropping off those bags at Salamandra's house when he got back to the US. He went on to tell Salamandra and Chenquella's dad Bernard the same thing he had said while he was in Mexico that Chenquella had died of alcohol poisoning. Now Salamandra wasn't buying this story. She knew that the Cabo 6 weren't telling the whole truth because several of them had visited her after they got home from Mexico and each of them had a slightly different story than the others.

10:29Some of them said that Chenquella had been found unconscious in the bathroom by a mate. And that's when they found out she had alcohol poisoning. Others say that she was found unconscious in the bed and that that's when they realized she had alcohol poisoning. The fact that nobody had a consistent story when they got back from Mexico was a huge red flag for Salamandra. It took Chenquella's father Bernard days to get someone at the resort on the phone who spoke English so that he could get his daughter's body back to the States. When he was able to find somebody he could communicate more easily with the woman who was in management at the resort told Bernard that Chenquella had not died of alcohol poisoning. She said that Chenquella's death was caused by her breaking her neck. Salamandra went on to tell ABC that the anonymous caller told her that there had been a fight between Chenquella and a member of the Cabo 6. When Salamandra confronted the Cabo 6 about the salegation they denied it. But there denial only helped them so much though because when the death certificate was released on November 5th the lies began to be exposed. The Mexican

11:34secretariat of health performed Chenquella's autopsy on November 4th and the real cause of death was listed as severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation which is the dislocation of the first two vertebrae in the neck. The medical examiner went on to say that her neck wasn't completely broken but it was dislocated enough so as to be fatal. She also suffered brain swelling. There was a huge knot on her forehead, broken blood vessels in her eye and bruises on her body. The time between injury and death was approximated at 15 minutes. Chenquella's time of death was estimated at 3 pm on October 29th. This of course completely goes against the stories that the Cabo 6 told. On November 11th Salamandra and Bernard made their first public statement. Bernard said, I just sit back and wait on God because like I said she's going to get justice. But something is not adding up. Salamandra told reporters, I spoke with her on Friday evening. She was having dinner

12:35and I never spoke to her again. On Saturday evening they called and said she wasn't feeling well. Chenquella's story began to be picked up by more news stations locally. Around this time Salamandra and Bernard began making arrangements for Chenquella's funeral which was held on November 19th. But before this could happen, a video surfaced on November 16th that confirmed what was stated in her death certificate. The video shows a brutal fight occurring between Desjane and Chenquella. Chenquella who was naked is viciously attacked by Desjane in the primary bedroom of the villa. All of the blows come from Desjane while Chenquella hopelessly stands there not fighting back. Off camera you can hear Khalil say, Kwella, can you even fight back? To which he says, no. It was this video that made police take Chenquella's case more seriously. It was at this point that a true investigation of her death began. Mexican authorities began their investigation of

13:35Chenquella's case on November 17th, calling it Femisside, which is the intentional violent death of a woman based on her gender. It's equivalent to homicide in America. Eventually, Mexican authorities would conclude that the fight took place around 7 a.m. that morning. Then Chenquella supposedly went to her room. And then around noon, was found barely conscious on her bathroom floor by someone who worked at the resort. Another two hours or so passed before Khalil made the initial phone call to Salamondra. The Charlotte, North Carolina FBI field office eventually launched their own investigation. And Chenquella's case began to reach a larger audience. North Carolina congresswoman Alma Adams made a statement saying, and was saddened to hear of the passing of Chenquella Robinson. And my heart goes out to her family and those who loved her. No parent deserves to suffer this tragedy. Eventually, one of the Kaboos six had a story of their own because they didn't arrive in Mexico

14:37until the day of Chenquella's death October 29th. When they arrived at the villa around 3.30 p.m., they said that Chenquella was still alive, which of course contradicts the time of death on the death certificate that approximated her death to be around 3.00 p.m. Now this member of the Kaboos six said that it was obvious by the time that he arrived at the villa that Chenquella had had too much alcohol. She was vomiting and disoriented. And at that, from the time he arrived, he remained by her side. He ended up moving her to a quieter area, rubbed her head, played music for her, and offered some words of encouragement. They went on to say that nobody told him about any kind of fight when he arrived. And he spent hours taking care of her, thinking that her condition was just caused by alcohol poisoning. In fact, he said that he found out about the fight when the rest of the world found out about the fight with this video that was later released. However, he did have some further insight into what might have caused the fight. 12 hours earlier around 3.00 a.m., a distraught day-gen-a, called him

15:41and told him about how drunk everyone was, and also spoke about an argument that she had gotten into with Chenquella. The glass had been broken during this argument and day-gen-a had cut her foot. She went on to tell this other member of the Cabo Six that she wanted Chenquella out of the villa, but they were able to talk her down and that didn't end up happening. And Chenquella stayed at the villa. Because the Cabo Six were U.S. citizens, the United States had the authority to prosecute them, but was not obligated to turn the case over to Mexican officials. But Mexican authorities also had the right to take the case on. The U.S. could prosecute this case only if Mexican authorities agreed to turn over everything they had on Chenquella's case thus far. The Mexican government did wind up taking the case on, and they submitted an arrest warrant and asked for the extradition of an unnamed female, who most certainly is Dejane Jackson, since she is the one in the video fighting with Chenquella. Mexican authorities stated that Dejane was the direct aggressor in the fight.

16:43Now this request would have been evaluated by two major U.S. departments, the State Department, and the Office of Internal Affairs. And once the evidence was found sufficient for an arrest, the information would have been forwarded to District Judge who would be the person to issue the warrant. This unnamed female would be arrested, and a hearing would take place where all evidence would be presented. If a judge found the information in the case was legally sufficient, the person would be extradited to face their day in court in Mexico. Here's the thing though, none of this ever happened. Dejane was never arrested, and she was never extradited back to Mexico to face any charges. Weeks passed, then months, and the warrant was never issued. And this is because of something that FBI had done unbeknownst to anybody, a second autopsy. Their results were completely different by the way than the initial autopsy that was performed in Mexico. In April of 2023, more than five months after Chenquella's death, the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office announced that they wouldn't be pursuing federal charges in

17:46Chenquella's death. According to the medical examiner that performs a second autopsy, Chenquella's neck and spine were fine, but she did have brain swelling, which might have likely been caused by excessive drinking and the significant decrease in oxygen over many hours. This same medical examiner also acknowledged the not in her head, and said it was likely caused by blunt force trauma. But this could have happened by any number of reasons, a fight, a fall, etc. This of course leaves the question that did this fight contribute to Chenquella's death? Probably yes. But there was no way anyone could prove beyond a reasonable doubt. Chenquella's family was devastated and blindsided by the news that charges wouldn't be pursued against Dejane or any of the Cabo 6. In October of 2024, Selamondra Robinson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Cabo 6, the FBI, and the State Department. The suit alleged that Dejane attacked Chenquella and ultimately caused her death. And then the Cabo 6 group attempted to cover

18:48it up. The Cabo 6 have since denied all allegations that they had anything to do with Chenquella's death. Chenquella's friend Khalil and two other women on the trip all claimed that they were just bystanders to what happened to Chenquella. The lawsuit also claimed that the State Department didn't move forward with extra-dating Dejane to Mexico to face prosecution, and that the FBI withheld records about Chenquella's case and shut Chenquella's family out of the investigation. Just last year in 2025, a federal judge dismissed part of the lawsuit, specifically the claims about the FBI and the State Department. Dejane Jackson eventually went on to change her name to Amonne Green and went on to give her side of the story. She claims that she was acting in self-defense during the fight, and that Chenquella was being belligerent and was the one who provoked the fight. Today, Chenquella's family is urging US authorities to take another look at the case. It's natural for them to want someone to be held accountable for Chenquella's death.

19:51In October of 2025, the family got together on the anniversary of Chenquella's death for a balloon release to honor her in Charlotte, North Carolina. The balloons were yellow and pink. Chenquella's favorite colors. Her family still remembers Chenquella as creative and passionate and vibrant, as a successful entrepreneur who had her entire life ahead of her. Her mother remembers her saying, Chenquella had a family that loved her and she was an amazing child. She loved people. She didn't know wrong to know one. She needed justice. She can't rest either.
