He led the bureau for 12 years, the second longest tenure after Jay Edgar Hoover, and reshaped it into a key player against terrorism right after. The September 11th attacks in 2001. Later, he investigated potential ties between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia in the 2016 election. Mueller took over the FBI just days before the attacks, shifting thousands of agents from traditional crime fighting to national security work. His team built new intelligence tools, formed global partnerships, and stopped several terror plots. Though the change came with challenges like tech, glitches and oversight issues. As special counsel starting in 2017, Mueller's probe charged six Trump associates with crimes but stopped short of clear conclusions.
