His attacker, David Braden, got life in prison with a minimum of 20 years. Earlier this year, Braden faced court again for handling stolen goods and having a phone and custody while at part prison. Nadine Marshall, Connor's mom, signed up for the victim contact scheme but says the family knew nothing about it, seeing his picture online crushed her. Bringing back the pain of the day police came to her door. She feels the justice system has led victims down again. The Ministry of Justice calls the original crime horrific and is investigating her complaint. They note how upsetting it can be for families to hear about offenders in the news without warning. A retired judge questions if officials must notify victims about every prison slip-up like this.
