From the streets of Birmingham to the world, this is Birmingham News Today. Police and Enterprise have charged Adrian Reed with capital murder and abuse of a corpse in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Genesis Reed. The announcement came during a press conference on what would have been Genesis' third birthday. Investigators believe the child was intentionally killed, placed in a duffel bag, and thrown into a dumpster. The case started back on February 16th when Reed reported her daughter missing from their apartment. Detectives quickly found the report was false, leading to her arrest the next day on a felony charge. Surveillance video from a nearby home shows Reed heading to the dumpster with a rolling duffel bag around 11.30 pm and returning two days. Later, with the child's toys, Chief Michael Moore called the situation heartbreaking, noting how it's shaken the whole community. Mayor William Cooper offered condolences and praised the law enforcement teams involved. The district attorney says prosecutors planned to seek the death penalty. Now, teams are gearing up for a tough search at the landfill
where the dumpster waste ended up. The trash was compacted in multiple times, so specialists from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are helping plan it out. Officials warn it could take ten weeks or more. Reed faces an initial court appearance later this week. The probe has involved over 75 officers for many agencies, about 8,000 work hours, 37 search warrants, and leads across. Several states, efforts continue to find the child's remains.
