On April 8th, Moreland fires ripped through Saddleworth and Marsden yesterday, charring huge swaths of land across four spots. Fire crews from Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire hit the scene starting around 1.30pm, battling thick smoke and flames near Oldham and, Huddersfield Road. In Saddleworth, blazes spark close to the pots and pans monument in Upper Mill and a long home-furth road in Greenfield. Over in Marsden More, fires hit deer hill and the five mile post area pulling in 10 crews at the peak. Black and patches now scar the landscape with images showing the heavy damage from the heat. Officials are urging folks to steer clear while ops continue as the dry conditions fuel these quick spreading wildfires. Greater Manchester crews use breathing gear and air fans to knock out their two fires by 8pm, teaming up with the National Trust in West. Yorkshire firefighters, West Yorkshire scaled back but kept five crews on sight through the night. This morning, one fire still smoters on Marsden More, but teams are holding the line.

Stay tuned for updates as they secure the moors and probe what started it all.
