Mitch McConnell's Lingering Medical Mystery

Join Jim and Greg for the Tuesday 3 Martini Lunch as they dive into Dr. Fauci's bizarre diary criticism of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that DeSantis takes as a 'badge of honor.' They also consider GOP concerns about low voter enthusiasm in key states heading into the midterms, intensifying demands from Kentucky's governor for proof that Sen. Mitch McConnell can still do his job, and whether a "sore loser" law could cause more upheaval in the Maine U.S. Senate race.

First, they react to Anthony Fauci blasting Gov. DeSantis in August 2021 for blocking local mask mandates in schools. DeSantis was among the first governors to re-open their states in the spring of 2020, which also drew Fauci's ire. DeSantis was right both times and his victory lap is well-earned.

Next, they grimace as personnel from the right-leaning Americans for Prosperity Action (AFP Action) are reporting lackluster enthusiasm from reliable Republican voters in the Des Moines, Iowa, suburbs. They say the same is true in other battleground states. Inflation and the economy are the biggest reasons. Jim and Greg point out that there isn't much time to change their minds before Election Day.

Then, they report on the latest proof-of-life photo and written statement from Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell. There is still no timetable for his return to the U.S. Senate. Meanwhile, Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear says McConnell needs to offer a lot more proof of his ability to do the job or resign. Jim and Greg also explain how the calendar plays a big role in this standoff.

Finally, they get a kick out of an effort to toss the new Maine Democratic Senate candidate off the ballot over "sore loser" laws. Troy Jackson lost the Democrat primary for governor before the party chose him to replace Graham Platner. Jim and Greg explain the laws and why the challenge probably won't succeed.
