The South Australians have moved through to the Sheffield Shield final and hey where would you rather be than Adelaide right now Jason Dizzy Welcome back to your podcast. No I get a trip and hello to all our listeners and viewers First of all how are you? I'm good. I'm much better. You've been under the weather for a little bit But you're much better now. Yeah now just for our listeners who are interested in our lives as well I was in hospital last week so we've got a little bowel issue called diabetic ulitis Anyone who any any of our listeners who who suffer the same it's quite a quite a common thing but I was I was yeah I was hospitalized for four days in the end so I did a bit of a rough

1:00week last week and I'm back to fight up and that's good mate. No I'm glad you're feeling you're on the men mate and you're feeling good but you're exactly right. Just putting a sports fan in South Australia is just amazing right now the Adelaide 36's they were unbelievable gain three against South East Melbourne Phoenix who have played a hell of a season they've been fantastic the Phoenix Obviously so he's led them well in class played some great minutes for them and done well but Look the 36 is the master stroke of DJ Facilovich starting in that game three. Oh boy. We love it He came in 27 points. I think Bryce got punched out 38, which is pretty standard for him and um and Zyland Cheaton just punched out another 13 14 rebounds just uh you know we know teams that get most rebounds inevitably wing games basketball so you know us manning those boards and then you know our big men doing their jobs as well so it was absolutely fantastic. It was

2:04awesome and I think that's the upside to the 36 is everyone's been rural in county it's Counting us out because we're you know a bit of one dimensional I've been saying just price cotton But there's the upside you've seen it DJ Facilovich can come into the starting lineup and dominate Which we all know that he's he's done for years anyway And then you've got guys like Isaac Humphrey who haven't hit their straps like who's to say that Isaac's not going to have Some unbelievable game across the grand final series. So it was so excited Yeah, and recursive it just well coming off the bench has played some important minutes and and made some big So look everyone's just contributing fling camera and he's contributing as well So look there's just a lot to like about the 36 is exciting there Our shuffling shoot side made another shoot final how exciting is that So good I am really optimistic about that the reason I say that is I felt Victoria last week went quite defensive against South Australia Maybe just thinking ahead to the shoot final and all this stuff

3:06But I just yeah, just something tells me that South Australia just peaking at the right time and I think Victoria just going a little bit defensive. I think that can be their downfall. So fingers crossed Well, I was lucky enough to bump into where they go the other day and It sounds like he is ready Read it a role if caught upon so I think he might get a call into the essay squad with dog it unlikely to play And then you and then you've got you know, whether they decide to go I was the thing to run Harris on scn yesterday Talking about the potential of bringing a Lloyd Pope Given that it goes to a five-day contest and that pitch They think it's going to be the same the same sort of conditions that they faced in this game And if it is then a spinner on day five could be quite important. So Interesting to see which way the select is going whoever missed out would be so unlucky And not just for South Australia as well because you've got you know, Jordan Buckingham or a Henry Staunton who may potentially

4:08Be squeezed out would be so so unlucky if they work Following beautifully as a unit from the Victorian side you're going to have even Mitch Perry or San Elliott coming out of that side Now you and I have spoken very glowingly of Elliott all season So with Ferguson Neil coming back he's almost He's going to be assured Yeah, Ferguson will play. I think you're right. It is probably going to be out of Mitch Perry and and San Elliott Because you expect will someone will play Scotty Bowen to play Ferguson play so Look tough selections for Victoria as well But do is it it just shows the strength of the osmos Victorian creative showing the strength of South Australia as well If you're talking about leaving out a couple of one or two of those guys that you mentioned from the South Australian perspective Look, it's a squad mentality players would be brutally disappointed. They don't mistake about that But players know that even if they do miss out in that big dance game they've contributed strongly to

5:13You know to getting the team there. So That's a squad mentality, but you can't all players, you know, obviously the disappointment not actually playing that final That that would be tough, but But the squad mentality You know comes first and that's what I can sense when I was chatting to Wes the other day as well He he was just excited about the prospect of being there, you know, obviously would want to play but The the prospect of going over to Victoria And if they could get the job done he was sort of thinking about how that how good that would look Flying back into Adelaide That the next day and and the the parade that would there would no doubt go on again. It would be iconic and I know that's You know rhino was really steadfast at the start of the season that he didn't just want to be a one hit wonder He wanted to build a genuine legacy around this team and they've got the opportunity to do that Yeah, they're certainly doing You know, it's super excited for for each and every person in that South Australian squad

6:18Support staff everyone that works so hard behind the scenes, you know everyone works in the marketing department just It's just everyone everyone that's in the office everyone puts so much time and energy into it You know to support the players and the coaches in what they need to achieve. So really excited You know, unfortunately, I'd love to go but I'm actually off to Pakistan No, it's great But it's great great that we think that the PSL is kicking off on that but But ultimately it would have been nice to To head to Victoria and and watch South Australia. Hopefully go back to back Yeah, I think so I'm just I'm just having a look at some of the Just the season stats for the whole Sheffield shield as well as we as we take sort of a bit of a broader look At some and what happened this shield season and there's been a little bit of coverage around The the batting numbers and the runs made across the competition We're so used to having you know one to a three dominant players who are scoring you know 800

7:212,000 runs and and more but in the end It's worked out that Peter Hansken is the top run score 688 runs averaging less than 40. Yeah, you know, you've spoken a lot about the pitch conditions here in Australia in the last few seasons and the being a ball and bowling dominated game But do you think there's place for a review within cricket Australia around How they set that up for seasons moving forward because we need that as in the shield averaging 45 50 runs and putting pressure on the test site Yeah, then there's a review I think the the challenge is you know, I actually really feel for the curators here. They're trying to find that balance between bat and ball um What they that in an idea what they'd love the surfaces to take to deteriorate takes some spin But I think these drop-in pictures in some of the states make that a little bit harder Um, I think the states that have the full square um, I think there's less excuse there, but um But certainly the drop-in pictures are you know, I still think

8:24They're learning um, how best to prepare them Um, but there's no doubt that uh, scene bowling um, it conditions of favoring scene bowling I mean there's well four guys in the top 10 trap uh top 10 wicket takers averaging sub 20 No, it's crazy because now that that just says to me it's too fast skewed in favor of uh, bowlers um Also, um, the fact that not no bad is it hits 700 rounds in a full shepard shield season speaks volumes as well You know, I think um You know, the highest average I think is Jake weatherall And she'll create this season the average is 40 Um, yeah, we have 39 pterhansken about 38 or something like that um Look, they're they're not bad numbers by any stretch I actually think they're very good numbers considering the surfaces that Um, these baddies are uh, are playing on so it's kind of it's inflating that the

9:26I suppose that the numbers of the of the scene bowlers and and it's it's making batting quarter challenge So Sam calls us average 33 just over 600 rounds and he pretty much scored 33 every every innings I know and and he's done all the hard work Yeah, so we know he can fly right? We know Sam pulses can fly And there's no question about that he's doing all the hard work there He's just going to find a way to convert if he converted Two of those ten good start or twelve good starts Into a significant score He's probably average 45 to 50 this season instead of 33 and there'd be no question that he'd be in the Australian side So that's just a that's just a learning for a young fire and let's let's remember. He's 20 years old You know, he's he's the upside of him is immense and you know looking forward to seeing him continue to progress Um, but I just think we all need to take a breath and have a little bit of patience particularly with their young fires and in particular young baddies

10:28I'm actually a little bit more more ruthless with our young bowlers I'm challenging them to be better and to be more ruthless and more disciplined Because they've got conditions in their favor Which sometimes can Create pressure in itself by because you're almost expected to take wickets here although it's expected to do the job. So So for me, I think we just need overall we just need to take a breath in Australian cricket We we're always heart-backed. We you know, we always look at these players and of average 50 plus or you know taken 400 test wickets and Um, you know scored 10,000 runs go. Why can't we have more players doing that? But you know, these are outliers. These are the absolute legends of the game We just need to take a breath a little bit Um, allow these young players to just Learn make their mistakes develop learn from those mistakes and get better and uh, we'll be fine Um, but your point about the surfaces is absolutely right um, we need to get that right balance between batten ball Another little interesting one that that I saw out of all those numbers the batting and bowling numbers

11:33Is that Corey Rockaceoli is again shown we're probably about the fourth summer in a row that is the premier spinner in Australia At domestic level the look we've got Nathan Lionel. This is the the goat in test cricket. He's been a gun for a long time No question um, I put Nathan here. He doesn't play domestic cricket. So that's fine. Adam's amper the late white ball triggerter for Australia But Why Corey Rockaceoli is in closer to that Australian test side Is absolutely beyond me um, he has done it over and over and over again and And for me he is the replacement for Nathan Lion if Nathan Lion's injured or unavailable. I know Todd Murphy got that opportunity and really pleased for Todd fine young baller But I think Rockaceoli should at least be in that conversation Yeah, you've been consistent with that since even before the actual series. So and um Yeah, I think I think the actual the chorus for Rockaceoli is building as well

12:36You see a number of people sort of calling for that Just given his height and his bounce that he's able to extract your wickets here in Australia particularly So hey look it's gonna be an interesting call when it does come up I can guess probably thinks he's got another five years left All right He's had a couple of injuries now. So you've does feel for an outsider it does feel like he's he's sort of heading towards the The the back end of his career and H does does come into account at some point now Desire set you some homework. I also did the homework myself. I found it Really hard. So we spoke earlier in the season and I highlighted it with what about videos and social media During the week but around the success of the multi-format series in the women's game and how We love it and we think that it could play a role in men's cricket now your point was to Um bring it in for some series for Australia against the lower ranked nations So you know you bang with issues or maybe you get to play that test that would have been long scouted with

14:38strategically to create debates on all that but I think selectors coaches captains would have to be really strategic in Identifying their needs for the multi format and just having one squad to pick from Um to play all formats. I mean, look, it's never gonna happen But it's just a fun exercise to try isn't a trap and it creates discussion. It creates debate Um and and I think going forward and what why I said it would never happen but going forward it might be a way to just create A buzz and interest in series that probably don't get the The I suppose the accolades or the uh or the eyes of that a that a nation series or or India vs Australia series would generate the interest levels there So it might be that some of the Nations that don't get to play Australia very often Um the likes of bangled airships in barbwe Afghanistan island it might just create a different dimension to

15:43That particular Series that there would go for Maybe three weeks or something on those lines either two or three weeks, you know if you have a test few one days and few two 20 So that could almost be done in two weeks. So um because we're we're always talking about the lack of windows and opportunities to fit International cricket in isn't this something that the men's game could consider and I suppose that's the question you and I have talked about and debated about um so yeah just this little exercise is Is is a little bit of fun and create a little bit of debate and hopefully a few of our listeners can Listen in and give us some feedback on what they think and um you know I'm sure no one will agree with our our teams but that's okay um that's what it's all about It's about just you know having some thoughts and ideas and bouncing them around That's right. So let's um I'm gonna Because you're the away team. I'm I'm the I'm the host of this uh this phone call so you're the away to you're the away team

16:47I'm gonna give you give you right of way into choose whether you reveal your side first or I reveal my side first And just just for um a little bit of competitive balance What I actually think we could do which has been talked about a little bit in test cricket um But what I actually think we could do in this series as a as a way to um I suppose give it a trial run is have the away team automatically win the toss so no toss the automatic the automatic Situation in these series particularly when you've got a Australia against Ireland Hey give Ireland a little bit of the A leg up I suppose but they can actually choose whether a battle bowl for every single match on the tour as the as the away just So um so let's um let's suggest that we are picking for Australia Bangladesh and it's a multi-format To uh so it is is it is it is it one test? So one test which is worth four points on the table and then yeah Our three ODI's and three T20's which were two points on the table

17:49Okay, all right, so you pick your squad or and um We'll go from there Okay, maybe fly away with your full squad and then we'll and then I'll fly away with my full squad And we'll and then we'll debate the the differences afterwards Okay, so I've I'm not I know you might break yours down a little bit differently I'm just gonna name the squad and then we'll go through so my squad is head Whether all Renshaw Smith Ingalls Kerry Webster Green Stark Lion Hazelwood Zamper Ellis David Carp Cummins. Yeah, so that's my that's my squad. Yeah, beautiful. All right, so I'll I'll give you mine I have broken it down a little bit differently, which we'll talk about once we once we finish So my multiple format players

18:52Steve Smith Travis head Alex Kerry Bow Webster Pat Cummins Josh Hazelwood And Matt Renshaw Nathan McSweeney actually I have grown into a white ball team as well So McSweeney comes in and then my test only players Curtis Paterson Mitch Stark And Nathan Lion And then my white ball only players Nathan Ellis Mitch Marsh Cameron Greene and Adam Zamper So Like it So that means we have we've got a couple of differences there the first one I want to discuss is you've included weather old and Renshaw in the squad now I felt like I could only one of those guys I went and Renshaw purely because I felt like he was starting to become an old format player for Australia You you want to back in Jake weather all you think that he's formed a good partnership with Travis head

19:52Yes, I think give him a crack You know it's I've I've gone both in my squad And the reason is I think weather old gain can transfer into the white ball I know he hasn't played much for he didn't play for the hurricanes this year And he didn't play what will create for tazzy But We've seen our devastating Cambodian white ball cricket And I just think in the multi format you can only You want to try and get as many players playing potentially be able to play Multiple formats as you can it's very hard unless they're absolutely a leak in one format You know, so I've only got there's only I've only got a couple of players that would only play in one format. So So and I'll go through them in a bit, but the weather or Renshaw potentially would play all formats Smith would play all formats. I'm not quite sure whether I'd open with him in the

20:53shorter format possibly The high part with Smith I've found is because he's retired from ODIs I was like are we going to ask him to come out of retirement for the purpose of this series Well, can I just bench him for the ODIs because I'm going to use him in the T20s and the test That was sort of my my thinking with with Smith. So I've gone to one less ODIs one less white ball specialist I suppose as a result of that Yeah, and I understand that. I mean, I look at I just think he'll play all formats for me I think he although he's technically retired from 50 over create. Yeah For this one off format. I think he'd play I've got English in there as much as anything. I mean he carries the number one keeper and he will play For me or formats, but English is there complies about He can play a very format and is you back up Option should something happen to carry If he hurts himself, you've got already made replacement keeping because I I assume

21:56Trave that you can't bring anyone in from outside that squad once the series Well, I did say I thought about that. I thought well injuries would probably be the exception Because like in a well like in a world cup you can Bring in a player if there's an injury So that was so much. That's why I didn't think of you know Scotty Bowling I thought well, if Hazard would or come and go Think that was my thinking which I'm assuming you'd do the same anyway. Yeah, okay. That's fair enough So then yeah, I've got a Kezi and obviously then Webster and Green as Well got a couple of all rounders there Whoever plays what I think I think Websters made a strong case to be the first All-rounder in the test side But Green Green's a gun. We know how good a player is just didn't quite fly last summer, but I think he'll be fine Going forward Then I've gone start he start will

22:58Play the test match at least you know, I'm trying folks him into playing maybe the t20 Lion would play the test match for me only Hazard would potentially can play Multi-format if he's fit Zamper Whiteball cricket LS Whiteball cricket David Whiteball cricket. I've been trying to get David to play 50 overs as well as the t20s Not that I'm not sure if he's even fielded and 50 over cricket for a while And then and then obviously Pat I'm probably a bit different to you or my only playing Pat and test match I know Whiteball cricket for Pat Cummins for me Look I think so I know he plays IPL and you know, you're not going to stop someone earning four million dollars Yeah, don't wait to work So you would never stop anyone doing that, but for me going forward If I'm Australia, I'm saying to Pat Cummins, but you're the test captain

23:59I want you to play as many of the test we've got what have we got 21 10 Yeah, something like that. I'm saying to Pat. I want you to play 15 or 18 months. Yeah, that's your priority And then gun player uphill whatever you want, but but your priority I want we our priorities for you to play as much Test crew as possible. I do. We're looking to play all the tests Yeah, don't they do play 50 over cricket. Don't need you to play t20 internationals Just be the best leader in captain. You can be and ball your overs in test cricket. That's where we need you Um, and I'm pretty strong on that Because I think in the test that we just saw how important a ployary was in the ashes you played that one test match At a low level it came in Got the job done and then put his put his feet up again because he's no doubt even saw We can't afford we can't afford another At 12 months with him playing one or two test matches. That's that's my that's my fear for the Australian side

25:02Especially with this aging bowling lineup with stark hazy wood Scotty bowling Scotty is desperately. I like it to miss out on this game this team But um, so yeah, we we need captain Pat to play as many test matches as possible in my opinion Yeah, I love it. No, that's a good that's a good strong squad We and you know, we've gone slightly different ways that I suppose my my differences where um we're bringing in Nathan McSweeney I think he He for me is the The next player in he's the collager Replacement um being being a number five um he can we know he can back up the order I don't see him as an opener, but I can see him anywhere from three to five in the in the batting order Um, yeah, I don't see him, buddy. I certainly don't see him opening in the test side um I Three possibly, but I I see McSweeney's way back into the side probably more In that in that middle order space. So um, you know, I think there there could be opportunities for him there

26:06But you know, he would need to Put some stronger numbers up domestically um, you know while it while he's done okay um He he's not paying the door down so to speak and I think that's where We need you know, yes, it's been tough for batting in domestic cricket um, but but we need to see We need to see something from from all the batters um, but Nathan McSweeney. I think you play a lot of cricket for Australia I've got no doubt about that um But I I think I think in time it will happen Yeah, I think so too and um, he's got no better opportunity to put his name up in lights than with a captain's knock in the shield final against the Next week, so big big opportunity there from McSweeney um, you know, I've gone I've gone wrench or I'd be playing wrench or in All three teams um, I think he's shown um, I think he's showing some real good signs at test level early in his career I had some had some issues along the way, but I think he's matured. He's ready

27:08He's shown when he's coming to the white ball teams that he's actually played a really really important role So wrench or for mind plays all three only unfortunately dropping Jake weather order as much as I think he has formed a good partnership I just think wrench or the way that he bats would be a perfect foil For Travis head, so I've got I've got wrench or and I had Curtis Patterson So I'm Mana flavor shown just hasn't hasn't done enough for mine since returning to the team and I'm bringing in Curtis Patterson who has had a couple of really consistent seasons after returning from a big layoff And I love the way he plays Uh, he averages 144 in test cricket. So that's hard to go past Uh, as an inclusion to the team but he for mine he takes Labeshane spot at number three. You've got McSweeney goes in at number five and then and then that's your middle order with the Steve Smith Slotting in in the middle. So that's that I think that's the only difference is other than that I think I could tell him did you include Mitch Marsh in your in your squad or you

28:11No, look, I debated that um The ultimately now he's look I'm the nada for me Because I had ingress as the Back up wiki But if he's said to me that I can bring in a keeper if carry Yeah, I'd probably slot in Mitch Marsh ahead of ingress there. Yeah If I can do that. So yeah, yeah, yeah, okay Well, I bring Mitch Marsh in probably for Josh ingress in that in that in that situation I just I just assumed that we'd need to have a spare keeper there But um if we don't need to have the spare keeper then yeah, definitely Mitch Marsh Be like the old traveling reserves they take with them to the world cup. They take a couple of extra just in place They need the last needed injury and quick journey. Wasn't it wasn't it the 92 world cup where David Boone kept because he and he really got injured But did you have to tell me because I was born in 1992? Okay Well, I think like from memory and it might be so our listeners might be able to confirm this

29:14But I could have sworn because I think I was in year 12 at the time, but I could have sworn that um David Boone kept wicket because Once you name just squad you couldn't bring anyone out from outside in you had a squad of 15 or 16 and You had to in that world cup you had to actually play Whoever was in and I think he and he really got injured So then David Boone had to keep wicket at the world cup So we'll see if any of our listeners knows anything about that um, I'm sure that's what happened Admittedly on 17 so True did someone come into you in 2003 You started it didn't know Nathan Brackett the Brackett down I got injured and I was actually Turns out I would have been fit for the final but they decided they wanted to Have a have a fully fit bowl of it um, but yeah, I think Brackett issues as well. So um, I would have liked to have been backed and

30:14kept kept with the squad and uh got treated and hope that I could have been back for the final but wasn't to be Okay, what a shame Well, that was a good exercise to his I enjoyed that so I'd love to get the feedback from our from our listeners and pop that up on the On the subject as a video as well. No doubt we'll get some get some feedback. It's been interesting to see we've had a few comments Um on the videos so far people actually love the idea of bringing the multi format series to the to the men's game as well So I think we could start something here. Do so let's we might start so you never know the might If it happens in the next couple of years we'll know that we've uh that we've had an impact you've had plenty impact on the Australian cricket I've had none so fast. 31:18So um save travels um of course and excited how the the Kingsman look like they're shaping up nicely minus Yeah, our man must we're spoken about him But you're dropping in from the Australian side unfortunately, but he's going to be a very important cog as the skipper of the Kingsman Look I've spoken to Manus. He's very excited about being captain of the Kingsman and uh really looking forward to getting over there and getting stuck in so Yeah, exciting times. We've got a we feel we've got a good squad um good group of players We just want to go out there and entertain and have a bit of fun and enjoy it It's going to be obviously we're getting there. It's going to be a short turnaround before a first game So I think all teams are going to be in the same boat just with all the stuff going on um You know with transport and getting to getting to Pakistan so um there's some challenges there But logistical challenges so well done to everyone for you know hopefully getting it underway So yeah looking forward to it should be a bit of fun and go the big show coming on then now last time we recorded our podcast

32:20I reckon within an hour of me putting that podcast out you'd signed You'd signed the big show Glenn Maxwell. So that's a that's a massive crew for the uh Look look look it is it is a big crew for the franchise and look. I don't know the um The ins and outs of his Contract but you know my understanding it would be that the Kingsman owner a few teams around the world So he might be a franchise player where he knows Uh in a couple of different leagues. So that'd be exciting for blend exciting for the Kingsman for sure So uh so looking forward to working with him How good Oh, well you and I will try and catch up online at some point Maybe maybe before the shield final starts But if not no doubt through our tour uh at the end of it and hopefully Sorry Victoria and listeners. 33:23No, we're we're very biased here We want to have a greater win um but look also you're just hoping to great game and really looking forward to um Made the best team win, but hopefully it's out the straight Player of the match. Oh I like your call Nathan McSwainy just Dishing out some discipline and scoring some big runs and and that good I feel I feel a bowl is just going to do something special You know, I feel Nathan McAndrew is peaking at the right time. Uh he's doing very well So you know, I'm gonna say McAndrew could play a really important role here Um for South Australia and You know, I see Henry Hunt got 81 in the last innings uh against Victoria Uh, but I'm with you. I think Nathan McSwainy could um You know, it could be the one Well, that would be huge for South Australia. Huge for his chances to get back into the Aussie squad

34:24Absolutely, and just finally made as well. I'm glad that we didn't have a blow-up like we saw on another podcast I didn't know where that's I didn't know where that to bring us.
